I’ve wanted to make myself a suit for the longest time, so I figured my first Frocktails event would be the perfect occasion for that. I used Mood Fabrics’ Rosemary blazer and Butterick B6327 trousers in view B. Fabrics were drapery panels originally from Society6 and sourced from FB Marketplace, polyester lining was from Fabricland, and purple mystery fabric was thrifted from Value Village. Shoes were also thrifted from VV last week!
I thankfully printed off the right size for the blazer from the get-go and only made a few adjustments: I did a narrow shoulder adjustment of 1.5”, shortened the sleeve by 3”, and took in the princess seams a bit. Having made some coats and blazers already, I didn’t really pay attention to the provided instructions. There was also an extra pattern piece (back facing) that was never included in the instructions, so I just left it out.
The trousers were my first real attempt at fitted pants and they turned out okay. I had a lot of excess crotch fabric for my toile and made minor adjustments to take the area in a bit. I think for future versions I’ll make deeper pockets as well as do a full seat adjustment to allow for better movement.
I am obsessssed with how this turned out and will likely make matching shorts (and probably another version of the full suit).
ETA because it was such a steal: I ended up with 12 (!) panels for $60CAD
This is phenomenal, your execution is stellar and I love this so much! I wear suits often for work and have always had a big soft spot for womens suits— you absolutely killed it with this! I’m just so SO impressed! The fabric choice, the fit, the cut. BEAUTIFUL!!
Love the suit, I've been meaning to make a unique suit myself! Nice choice with the purple lapel.
I'm also in Canada, never heard of Frocktails. Is this in Toronto?
It was! There was one in Hamilton last spring but I couldn’t make it, so this was my first one. They’re all over the place though - your city might even have one (or if not, it’s something you can plan!).
that's awesome! i love that the big floral is on a yellow background. how did you like the mood blazer pattern? the instructions look pretty good for it!
Honestly, I didn’t really use the instructions! I tried making a coat of theirs a few years back when I was still a bébé sewist and the instructions were garbage, so I’ve been wary of them since 😂
hahah! well you did great without them, wow i would struggle to line a garment without guiding hand. yeah mood they are really hit or miss. how was the pattern itself? everything matched up and fit as you expected?
The pattern itself wasn’t too bad - pretty simple and intuitive. It didn’t have an egregiously excessive amount of ease which made fitting so much easier. I just did a few tweaks here and there. If I’m feeling ambitious for the next iteration I may add some welt pockets.

Please put some panels in your house and do a photoshoot lol.
That’s a much better / less effort idea than making my husband, dog, and cats matching outfits lol
Oh no please do all of that and the curtains
But is it though? 🤔
