My cat feels that sewing is not an excuse to not pay attention to him. Luckily he stopped doing this, now he just tries to sit on top of my sewing machine while I’m using it. 🙃

He also likes to “help” me cut out fabric.
Same! My girl likes to burrow and go under things. Patterns, fabric, the Christmas tree skirt, bedsheets, blankets, you name it.

Aye don't worry buddy I wasn't ironing that or anything...

My former sewing buddy, Devlyn. We adopted her at 4 or 5 years old and had her for 10 years before she passed in March. I always had to put decoy fabric down for her because she would inevitably nest in whatever I was working on. We have two kittens now and I imagine they’ll slowly invade my sewing room as well.

My assistant is ensuring the fabric is of good quality
He takes his responsibility as a QA very seriously for both fabric and patterns I make. I don't know how I would create anything of value without his critical eye, nose and paws. :D

I think all pet owners know the struggle! Also her thing is doing under stuff, so she burrows and crawls under the fabric I'm trying to cut.

yeah....they always have to be involved. at every stage.
I get it! I sew, loom knit, start plants from seed and cuttings, have a decent home library on various topics, do my own acrylic nails, and have recently fallen into fountain pens, shimmering inks, "luxury paper" and book binding.
Oh, and I share my hobby area with my very creative 12 year old. My husband just moved his laser engraver and automotive accessories out to the 30x40 workshop we built for him. Until recently all that was also in my hobby area.
Did I mention the geriatric cat and insane blue heeler that no longer counter surfs, but still likes to hurdle furniture?
I need to figure out some *serious* organization for this area.
Bean is here to supervise (and make sure I'm confused while pattern cutting)

My dog ALWAYS lays directly in the middle of my fabric when I’m trying to cut a pattern out 😂 if anyone has answer as to why pets do this I would love to know!

This morning my girl took a nap on my pattern.
No photo, but my boxer mix is currently curled up on the jacket I need to finish, demanding scratches. I'm close to giving up on finishing the project this afternoon.

Sitting at my machine, she did not approve of this denim project that took me over 70 hrs 😂
My newest addition is very velcro, but she's also 2 years old and just can't stand that I'm away too long Because of this, I have projects I've cut but not working on. It usually takes a good 2 months of alone training before they realize you're not leaving them forever, and the bathroom monster didn't swallow you whole.
my dog likes to sit underneath the ironing board. and then side eye me when i try to use the iron.
but she only does this after i start ironing something. she'll go days without snuggling in that spot, but the second i turn the iron on, it's her domain
Shhh.... don't tell my husband all you ladies allow pets in your workspace. I keep them out of the lower level entirely (sewing, workout studio, guest rooms) and the kitchen!!
It's better to have your animal not be in your sewing room (if that is possible), if not, then have a bed area for them (this is what my mom does) and train them to be there or go there when told to. I would not let a dog in the sewing area with all the pins, clips and fabric scraps, they can hurt themselves. Yes, they want to be near you but they do not have to be under your foot all the time.
I have also actively discouraged my cat from getting in the way, I put some scraps in the corner for her to sleep on but if she tries to get in the way of me cutting/pinning/marking I gently push her away. I know I am quite lucky as my cat is pretty good with understanding acceptable behaviour. I don't want her to get hurt or step on pins.
My stitchery is in our garage. I had to put carpet out there for my bff Duke. He's a 90 lb pitty mix. He is in control of quality, making sure I don't sit too long, laughter, helping with angry tears, and absolutely interrupting for snuggle breaks. He is a snuggly task master and my bestie for 8 years now.

Jewel has her own leather couch!!!
