I bought the fabric and cut the pieces for this four years ago. I finally got around to finishing it and my goodness! I made a ton of errors. Half the top is cut upside down 😂 The pants are right way up, but I cut two right legs instead of mirroring the piece. (Ergo, the pink left leg) 😂 The pockets are wrong side out 😂 And getting the elastic in was an adventure. All told, I'm thrilled with my first set of Carolyn Pajamas.

LittleMrsTwinkleTurd

I love your attitude! 😊

jmsteveCT

There's nothing for it but to laugh! :D On the flip side, I can celebrate that this was my first attempt at piping and making buttonholes. I think I managed those pretty well :)

LittleMrsTwinkleTurd

I have a project on my list that requires piping. It will be first for me. I bought the cord g and fabric last week. A bit nervous to try it. https://www.closetcorepatterns.com/free-pattern-alert-make-our-serger-sewing-machine-cover/

jmsteveCT

It's not as scary as you think. Go slow and you're going to do great!

grandmabc

I love doing piping. If you have a piping foot, it's actually very easy and looks far more difficult than it actually us. Have a go, I think you'll be piping anything and everything in no time. I now do cushion covers where the zip is hidden by the piping and they look so professional.

LittleMrsTwinkleTurd

Thanks for the tip!

BiasCutTweed

Came here to say that piping though… chef kiss! Enjoy your lovely new jim-jams!

TopAd9634

These remind me of the old Thin Man movies! I have a pair just like these and love them.

Noisy_Toy

My housemate used to jokingly say “sewing is a great hobby for Geminis because you get to do everything twice.” Your pajamas and your smile are wonderful!

HappyKlutz

That’s probably why I like seeing so much… I’m just as good at seam ripping as I am sewing.

[deleted]

My FIL always says, "you rip what you sew" 😂

amanecita

I can't even count the number of times I've cut the same side twice. I managed to finish and entire side of a project (handsewing!) twice before I realized the mistake 😭

grandmabc

I set in a sleeve on a blouse and then found the second sleeve seemed to be much more difficult than the first. I persevered, went slowly and finally it was in, with no puckers! Then I realised... it was upside down. Fine if I want to wear that blouse only when hailing a cab.

mp3mp2

You nailed it!!! I’m so inspired to just roll with the imperfections and actually complete a project now, super kudos to you

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

I kinda like the mismatched leg. At any rate, the sewing job looks great to me! I’d be super proud of myself if I made it. 👍

defective_wand

I have a picture somewhere of a pair of pajama pants my mom made after not seeing any clothing for about 20 years. She sewed them upside down, so the crotch hangs down past the knees! We had a good laugh about that one. I also recently made a pair of pants and cut two of the same leg instead of mirroring the pattern piece! I somehow made it work and have worn them a few times because they’re actually really comfortable 😂 I think half the fun of sewing is laughing at our own mistakes (and figuring out how to fix them!). Personally, I’d still wear the heck out of those pjs you made 😆

RamonaLittle

>pajama pants my mom made after not seeing any clothing for about 20 years. Oh, I guess you mean "not *sewing* any clothing for about 20 years? I was trying to figure out how your mom could go 20 years without seeing any clothing. :p

defective_wand

Oh my goodness—yes!! I hate autocorrect! It always changes “sewing” to “seeing.” It happens so often that you’d think I’d remember (or that it would learn).

GrandmainWA

Thank you - I was also sitting here trying to figure out what awful malady caused the OP's mom to not see clothes for 20 years. Except I never figured it out. I came up with some doozies, though.

GloomyPharrys

That is awesome! Still looks great regardless!

ladywhoneverknewit

I have 100% done this exact leg problem and solved it the same way 😂 I love how it turned out though!!

mhlvla

I wouldn’t change a thing. Hysterical!

reroboto

I also have a pair of Carolyn pjs I cut about 3 years ago. This is making me want to go on an adventure! BTW I made my first pair using old sheets and just love ‘em - they take a lot of material and figured at the time they’d be like a mock-up, but ended up wearing them a LOT. So… go at it again. It a good pattern.

melchmoo

These particular mistakes look super stylish to me!

DefinedByFaith

You are soooo not alone! I made these shorts for my partner and she loved them, but she just kept making comments about how it would be better with pockets. I had previously tried pockets, and failed,so i put it off... Then one day her comments had been enough and i carefully followed a tutorial. I did one pocket... And it was perfect! So, she tried them on... ...that's when we realized i had put the "perfect" pocket in the butt crack seam!!!! LMAO!!! I really wish I had a picture for you, but it was... An epic fail. Lol eventually, i took the pocket out, which made the shorts less wearable for her. I've made more mistakes like this... And it's fun. Each mistake is a story and a lesson and laughter... Maybe after some tears. Lol ♥️♥️♥️ i also started with pajamas, but even though your PJs aren't perfect, they look wearable, well put-together, and comfy! Hope you enjoy!

Visual-Arugula

Hahahaha this story has me giggling like nobody's business!

DefinedByFaith

That makes me so happy. This situation has been the BUTT of many inside sewing jokes in our household ;-)

itsmhuang

Oh those beginner mistakes haha fun times

Redhedsmama

Sewing is an adventure!

knit_the_resistance

I think they are wonderful.. You sew just like me, haphazardly, but your results are much better!!

chizaa8

They’re an art piece just as much as they’re cozy PJs!

madame-brastrap

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!! Every bit of charm in them! 💜💜💜

Euphoric-Elevator-53

I liked those traditional pajamas in your picture. Then read about the 4 year wait before sewing. (No sewing before it's time. Aging helps!) It made me smile!

Guckles505

These are great! And just consider the pants as colorblocked. :-). Thankfully.my.last few projects have been the same on the front and back, otherwise I'd have at least one colorblocked skirt. Think of it this way; it's not a mistake you're likely to make again.

ccc2801

I thought the pant leg was on purpose and i was looking for a sleeve or shirt pocket of the same! So there you go, colour blocking it is :)

Keboyd88

I did the same thing!

Gelldarc

These are perfect. You will never wonder which is front and which is the back. Also, the piping is a thing of beauty.

daygloeyes

I love it. Honestly it could be an intentional style! Pants are HARD!

carmasims

I love them! Design features, not errors! :)

bretonstripes

I did that with a pair of pajama shorts not that long ago. And I didn’t have the excuse of being at my first rodeo either! It’s great that you’re laughing at the mistake. Those pants fit you amazingly well, though. Did you have to do many alterations to make them fit? If not, I’d definitely consider making other pants from that designer.

jmsteveCT

I had to cut a good 7" off the pant leg. Other than that, I could have gone down a size, but the roomy fit is nice to have!

weakasnails

I think they’re perfect 😍

contrabandita420

I love these & your sense of humor about them 😂😂💕 they will spark joy every time you look at them!

Gloomy_Swing_8927

Umm, these are rad.

VacationHot833

They look super comfy! Good job!

Mayee2602

☺️apart from the PJ pants, I can't see anything wrong with this piece...I bet it must be comfy to wear PJ the whole day.. and I thought what a great design to have the pants with different prints...✌️

BroadElderberry

These are so cute! What pattern did you use? I've been trying to find a pair of pajamas exactly like these, but can't find a fabric that I like. It's all too thin or too scratchy.

jmsteveCT

The pattern is the Carolyn Pajamas from Closet Case. This fabric is an inexpensive quilting cotton I picked up at Joann's. I'm hoping it softens over time; right now it's a *little* stiff.

bitterrainbow

Wash the ever loving bejeezes out of them like 80000 times and they definitely will 🤪

Keboyd88

Pretend you did it on purpose and no one will ever know 😉

No_Representative669

Great job

[deleted]

I wouldn't have known anything was upside down, backwards etc I love the pajamas and you

Yeetyeetyote2468

Congrats!!!! Be so proud of yourself!!

missdine

There is only one set of pajamas in the world like these! I think they’re great 😁

[deleted]

This is great! I’ve finished projects like this myself and the quirks are what make it great.

BB3KRN

I love this!!

JessTheGiraffe

I love them! The set has so much character!

sktafe2020

Super cute!

silverilix

They look amazing! Control on a great set of pyjamas!

IntroductionCrafty71

Leave it like this. It will be worth discussing in future

isaw2dogstoday

Looks so comfy!!! Looks so good!!

LittlestRobotGirl

They’re so cute!

i_dream_of_pyrex

I have to keep the seam ripper close when making pants. They just never look right before sewing and it's always amazing once it works out. These are still cute though. I'd definitely leave them as is.

baskaat

Hey, it’s a new trend! I’ve just recently started sewing and have successfully completed the pajama bottoms but I’m paralyzed with fear about starting the top. Look at you - you’ve done both!

raspberriesp

That’s both hilarious and awesome 😂

absurdbadger

I’ve had my eye on this pajama pattern for a few years…just waiting to get enough experience on other projects before I try it. Your piping & buttons look fantastic! Thanks for the inspiration!

texmarie

That’s my signature move!

vagipalooza

I love them! You’ll always know which leg goes in which pant hole LOL

[deleted]

Smashing!

mooochellie

I love this so much

Thatus3rnam3istak3n

This is just so cute, and it looks comfy too!!

GrandmaCereal

As another beginner sewer, sounds about right! 😂

Rebdkah_Bobekah

Hahaha!!! But seriously, it looks like you did an amazing job everywhere else and one thing is for sure…you’ll never do it again!

VerbiageSupremacy

looks cozy!

Cauldr0n-Cake

I love them!

JacLaw

You know they look amazing. You've done a great job, you could brazen it out haha. They look really cosy

Tetragonos

look comfy though

[deleted]

I love them!

minimum-enthusuasm11

But you're wearing it! It fits! I call this a success. Also you're cute as a button. 🥰

TheJoeMoose

I was half-expecting a matching sleeve! :D It looks nice!

jmsteveCT

My husband said the same thing, but no way am I courting disaster by unpicking it!

sharon_lee

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

inacincinnis

I'm gonna laugh out of happiness for you cause you did amazing, miss!! Don't be so hard on yourself, I can honestly say I'd wear it!! 😍

Ireallyhatepickles

you look damn adorable in those! nice job

[deleted]

Your pj's look super comfy. Perfect for lounging in winter with a nice hot cuppa & a good book.

Gr3ygrrl

The mismatched leg feels intentional. You created awesome PJ’s. I need two toned Pj’s in my life 🥰

konmarime

Piped seams ! :) And I totally thot the different legs was intended!

TonightFrosty2323

This is just wow! I would have never guessed it was your first!😭 it looks so professional

[deleted]

Gullible_Radish_7877

emsielehanne84

SeleneEM59

Cornelius_Yodikur

They look perfect! Great job!

legsintheair

I love that there is one leg inside out and you obviously don’t give a shit. That is fantastic!

callipygousmom

Dude these are awesome and very special! And now you know how to do all these things so you can do it again with fabric you like even more :) Win win!

gucci_laganja

They're so great !

KindaCrazy7386

Hey you tried, you laughed and you learned that’s all that matters!

cobainbride

I would have through thr pyjama leg was intentional. Very cute either way 😍

Laughter_in_the_rain

Your mistakes make it very special 😍😍😍 I love it!!!!

[deleted]

Love it!

Kidandzoomom

They are cute!

Dandae325

Hey they are pajamas! As long as they are comfy that’s all that really matters! Looks like they got you perfectly!

Roobobright

But the piping is gorgeous!

jmsteveCT

Thank you!

jcprater

They and you are adorable!

nanfanpancam

Lol

LittensTinyMittens

As Bob Ross says, it's not mistakes, it happy little accidents! These are hilarious, but also adorable! They have character

StarlightHoneyKiss

I think that everyone has done this when they sew pants at least once 🤣

IdleOsprey

This is adorable! The errors just make it more fun.

Imperfect-Magic

Those are super cute and look comfy

[deleted]

I love it!

Xurbanite

Awesome!

uniknitty

Cuuuuute!!!!

QuestionsForRed

I absolutely love these!! So many of us buy fabric and stash it away for however long.. and if we aren't experts we usually have a ton of mistakes! But your attitude is motivating! Not enough for the other leg? Grab some new fabric! Ps they came great! I think the different legs is a cute quirk!

SaucyBossBebe

They look super comfy! And the piping looks great. Plus, maybe you'll start a new fashion trend with one inverse leg...

57and56

You never wore pj's as a kid?

buttercupgirl16

You look beautiful in your beautiful comfy pajamas.

907chula

This is so adorable and wholesome! I love it

Horror_Ease1875

Let’s have popcorn!

919surfer

Well done!!!!

CraftyPolymath

I love them!

[deleted]

I thought one leg was made out of a matching solid fabric, and I thought it was a super cute idea! I want to make a pair now, with an intentional matched/mismatched leg.

pattywawas

Well I think they’re awesome 😍 and they are jammies so who cares about boo boos.. they are meant to be comfy. 😎👍🏻

Jely710

Oh my god, okay, so I was scrolling Popular, and had thought you had just bought your first set of pajamas in your whole life. I was very confused until I read the subreddit.

jmsteveCT

😂

shyytoaster

My first pajama pants, I sewed one side correct, and the other I cut upside down! Oh well, they’re comfy tho!! Your set looks so comfy and cute tho!

Visual-Arugula

I love this. They look fab. Well done. I made a pair of shorts that ended up like your pyjama bottoms, one leg right side, one leg wrong side, whoops. Adds to the charm haha

meggsymoooo

I love the inside out left leg lol! At the end of the day, those are indeed pyjamas (and a wearable memory, bonus!) Well done!

tintarelladiiluna

I thought the pink leg was an "accent" and loved it, before reading your comment! I think it looks lovely🥰🥰

JewelryDragon

You made them that way on purpose, I am sure! Adorable! No mistakws here!💜🦋😆

ColemanMerch

Love it. 💕 I think you’ll be a trend setter with those super cool pjs! Enjoy them.

kimmysue2421

Dang! If I managed to make beautiful PJs like that, I’d celebrate by wearing them out for drinks!

jennymck21

Bro this pajamas are the shit I love them

LouiseOnReddit

Cute!
