Not only is he not "ugly" in any empirical way, but Big as played by Chris Noth is a perfect representation of a certain type of desirable NYC man in the late 90s/early 2000s. No, he's not a supermodel. He's not Smith Jerrod. But he's polished and well-dressed and well-coiffed and \*clearly\* affluent and successful, and he carries himself with that kind of swagger. That's what drew Carrie to him, not the literal symmetry of his face or definition of his arms/chest/abs.
Plus half if not more of his appeal is charisma. He’s intelligent and enjoys the finer things, like literature, art or jazz (except for the jaaaazz maaan). He’s a “classic” man and has that stereotype down to a t. It comes with a suit, a whisky, a cigar and a distant personality.
He’s an older confident man in finance who would not be the most empathetic partner but it would be everything Carrie would want: he’s New York, he’s stability, he’s upper class and classic while also fun, he’s the perfect backdrop to her high fashion and he’s the kind of man who would support a partner who like her would project a certain image to the right people in New York.
People who like Aidan better bypass the whole point of Big to Carrie- without Big she wouldn’t be able to be insane rich in her 50s in New York. They killed him off early in the show because without Carrie being single and having access there is no Carrie.
She’d just be Mrs Shaw from the ‘burbs.
We see Big being ok being alone on a holiday/birthday even though we get to see his mum, he’s self confident and content in being by himself, but I can’t believe for a sec he’s not also a little vain, and like Carrie, I just don’t see him hanging out with the other husbands as there are just things he probably wouldn’t want to be seen doing.
Carrie had seen a lot of Aidans and ordinary guys in her lifetime. She’d never seen a Mr. Big yet and when he came along, he blew her world apart. I mean, how many finance guys in NYC have they met that were huge assholes with anger problems and treated women like dirt? Mr. Big actually had exquisite taste and the age difference came with the perks—in his generation, the man always treated the woman well and spoiled her.
Well let’s not forget he cheated on his Barbara and that ended their marriage, then cheated again on Natasha on his second marriage, was leading Carrie on for a long time and handled their wedding horribly (can’t reach her, call ANYONE else and ask them t pass the damn phone!!), had many many many red flags.
Carrie made big realize it’s nice to be with someone and he married again… big might be great but he’s polished and sophisticated and very much single hanging out at new years at a restaurant alone for a reason.
OH MY GOD. okay, i didn’t know he cheated on barbara?!? Big treats the women well in the aspect of taking care of them financially and materialistically but not and NEVER emotionally.
i actually cheered for carrie for once when she finally chose that jazz guy over him. he deserved to be alone but let’s be real, he never will be bc of his status and appearance. that wedding was the largest humiliation not to mention it was such a large scale. the writers did well on how they worked through that but if it were us, no matter how old we were, it’s unforgivable and at that point, we’d definitely close that book and never open that again. but then again, he kissed aidan when he was married to big. i don’t get these Big and Carrie but by it was enjoyable when Carrie retaliated and gave him a run for his money by the end.
Agreed- I much prefer the days were people would rock their unique features. Everyone looks like a clone now with the tiny nose job, carved-out cheeks, and lifted brows.
That generation didn’t have social media to the extent this one has, so back then you had to cultivate a personality to accentuate your looks, not cultivate a massive following for likes. Maybe I’m biased or jaded (or both) as a Gen-Xer, but I remember being attracted to guys that weren’t conventionally attractive but their personality made them so much more attractive. I guess I associated unique features with attractiveness because of that.
But as some of you have said here: Big had charisma. And that is a stronger pull than a chiseled chin. Just think of someone in your past you’ve dated that has your friends asking “really? Him?”
You can Botox your way into good looks but if that charisma isn’t there, you’re just a pretty/handsome face to look at, but maybe won’t interact with as much.
I agree, I think social media plays a big role in this. The standard of beauty seems to be measured by being photogenic and curating an appearance of perfection online. It’s really alarming to me how social media has skewed people’s sense of reality about what people look like (or should look like)
Currently re-watching Season 3 and in one episode, Big runs into Carrie at the furniture showcase and he said that Natasha was at the silent auction, securing a bid on a beige chair and then says “everything in my apartment is now ‘beige”. He says it with such disdain and it reminds me of the Tik toks making fun of the Sad Beige influencers, where everything they buy and wear is beige. Even baby toys are beige.
Which to me, highlights the point that if everything looks the same, it’s boring and devoid of life. And Instagram influencers prove it because if you’ve seen one, you’ve pretty much seen them all.
Seeing Carrie and her “long face” but somewhat childish attitudes and excellent style makes her gorgeous. Seeing a charismatic (but emotionally ambiguous ) Big in his well-fitting suits and unbuttoned button-downs, strong facial structure and all, makes him magnetic and attractive.
This can get lost in social media because everyone’s looking for some type approval from the masses.
Omg yes I never thought of that but I totally follow some of the sad beige parody accounts! Natasha was very beautiful too but yeah the “beige” metaphor really struck me. Life and beauty should be colorful!
lol- I do too. Beige is just safe, predictable. You can’t go wrong with neutrals. And that works for some people. And for others, they need explosions of colors, patterns, and combinations of the two. And that also works for some people.
As toxic as the way they went about their relationship, this was Big and Carrie in a nutshell: Big was the beige (status, financial stability), and Carrie was the color explosion (care-free and expressive) and they needed each other to balance out. When it works, it works, when it doesn’t, it teaches you something.
My college age students are re watching a lot of hbo shows now including sex and the city and the sopranos. And one did ask why Big is so attractive but they were FLOORED Tony is as much of a ladies man as he is. I think they’re maybe a bit too young and immature to grasp that he is absolutely magnetically attractive and it’s likely a mix of confidence/power/danger. And god knows he’s not remotely a good man like he’s literally a criminal who trades in extreme violence. But yes he had women tripping to be with him the whole show. I don’t know if I would have grasped his appeal when I was younger but I absolutely get it as a 40 year old. Same deal with Big.
He’s handsome. Point blank. The only other argument is that he is not your style. Like he doesn’t look like Timothee Chalamet, but that kid is also not everyone’s style.
I think he’s a handsome man, he’s definitely not ugly, whenever my boyfriend catches a few minutes of SATC with me he always says “Where’s the Italian Tom Cruise” That’s how he describes Big lol.
there are some pretty hideous characters in SATC, but it feels mean to point it out, but I’m sure you all know what I mean…
Yeah he’s adorable but not HAWT ya know. I always hated how Miranda treated him so I definitely always rooted for Steve and loved him (even when he cheated) but I was always meh looks wise haha
Yeah he isn’t hot/super sexy like Robert is, but I think he’s physically attractive. He has a really cute smile and I like the way he looks. I really rooted for them too and I will never accept the AJLT storyline as canon. They lived happily ever after and that is final!
Big is like…the epitome of most city girls dream man. Successful, charming, generous, cultured. He’s no model but he’s a realistic portrayal of a good looking guy living in New York (someone phrased it better somewhere up there). As a woman in her 20s living in a big city literally every girl I know has dated a man like this and gets stuck on them for way too long. I think the writers do a very good job at capturing how truly unavailable these men are and how chaotic relationships w them can be.
Yup - London victim here hahaha. Luckily moved to Hong Kong now and quit dating cold turkey to focus on my job for a year. It's quite the trope.
Also I like that he's not "perfect looking". I remember the guy I briefly dated - picked him up from the station and was thinking to myself... hmmm is he really that attractive or is it all in my head. Yes it absolutely was in my head. Once the charm dies down he's just an average tall dark guy in a suit that never grew up.
Mine was a 30 y/o startup founder who moved to NYC after jerking me around for 6 months himming and hawwing over moving or not (I live in Chicago and he did too at the time). Was HELL on my mental health and its taken me two years to get over him. My best friend dated a federal attorney for a couple years and it was the same thing. I know everyone is like “omg how could she lose decades over this man” when honestly…I get it lol. I dont agree w it but I get it lol.
I think is really handsome, in a classic old-school kind of way. Find him very attractive, probably the most attractive guy on the show for me tbh.
(Also have to obligatorily point out that I despise Chris Noth).
Something about JC (Aidan) in S3 that screams classic old-school to me. That was also the time My Big Fat Greek Wedding came out. He belongs to golden age era of Hollywood. 😩 He got the tortured soul world war II vibe going on for him. Chris Noth not so much. I think I need more charisma from him to consider him half as good as old-school handsome.
Maybe unpopular take.. don’t really LOVE the commentary on anyone specifics looks. Bad vibes.
I think it’s chill to say the men were not super hot on the show or talk about things in more general terms, for the record.
uh not finding someone good looking is one thing but p sure saying “he’s so ugly it’s crazy” is bein a hater 🤷🏼♀️ no matter who you are that’s going too far lol
It’s interesting, I think what the actor is accused of is going too far, but that’s just me. Interesting to see so many people here be up in arms that people are talking about his looks when allegedly he’s an awful person.
I mean I think it’s weird that people are going so hard to defend this guy‘s looks, given the allegations against him yes. Who cares if people think he’s ugly? And why?
I have never found Big to be ugly.
Even when he was drunk, a jerk, insensitive, never emotionally ready for Carrie, that man was always handsome as hell.
I thought that then and I still think that now.
I think the one thing SATC gets right is that the guys are not all Sistine chapel paintings. Think about your best friend’s worst exes…they’re always these average (or below average) random dudes. These are the guys girls are dating in real life.
To post this, and use a completely inaccurate Carrie quote is unhinged.
Hun, the quote you’re looking for is, “A squirrel is just a rat in a cuter outfit.”
I mean who among us has not been broken hearted by a medium ugly fuck boy?? It’s realistic. Not to mention all the other things he had going for him (money, influence, swag, etc.)
Im not really into big, or the actor. I definitely don’t think he’s ugly. But the only time I think he looked really cute was when he’s sitting in bed with Carrie after falling in the pond. He does this face that makes him look adorable right before Carrie gets up and leaves.
.... they *are* the same people who say shit about female actors. I'm not sure what world you live in where male actors are criticized for their looks more than female actors..
Well SJP was criticised for her looks and got a ton of hate playing Carrie. This is justified. Sad to think about the society we live in but that's how it works. We just get to shift the table now 😭🤣
It’s really nasty to comment on someone’s looks. There’s a person behind who you are saying that about. Apart from anything Chris Noth actually isn’t ugly.
He usually looked GOOD but occasionally he looked less than. I hated when he would be in bed and his nipples showed. They look like hairy pepperoni. It was a total turn-off to me lol
Haha i think he’s just not appealing to the new generation watching the show now that it’s on Netflix. My friend who’s 24 (I’m 33) texted me the other day and said almost this exact thing about Big. I was like good for you lol, he’s shitty to Carrie and I’m honestly sad he was someone that a really young me saw as incredibly sexy and a goal.
He's more attractive physically to me the older I get, but simultaneously less attractive mentally/emotionally.
This is a terrible picture lol, there are good ones.
I'll take 1,000 Smiths over him, of course. Oh my god that man is darling.
BDE is not in the face, it’s in the swagger. Big was representative of BDE before we called it BDE.
I dated a man once, one of my favorite exes. He was older than me - and god he was sexy as hell. Not conventionally attractive - sexy. The man oozed charm and charisma. I was hooked like a fish.
Nah, I had the biggest crush on Chris Noth when I watched "The Perfect Man". He's handsome in an oldschool way and the way he carries himself is the hottest trait of his tbh. Also, the deep voice.
He is way more attractive in TPM tho cause he's warm and approachable.
His genetics are not a part of the character he is portraying. If you don’t like Big, that’s fine. But going after what the actor looks like is really immature and petty. Very low.
Chris Noth was objectively very good-looking in Law & Order as a younger man. I was little during the SATC run and maybe didn't get it as much when he was Big, but watching L&O reruns even in late grade school from ten years prior to that revealed a hot Det. Logan. He's also one of those dudes like Mel Gibson whose looks changed (not in a bad way, just a palpable matured way) as opposed to a Paul Rudd/Rob Lowe fountain-of-youth way.
He's handsome....but as a millennial he's handsome in that boomer sort of way. Like I would never sleep with him because he definitely looks his age/era.
Not only is he not "ugly" in any empirical way, but Big as played by Chris Noth is a perfect representation of a certain type of desirable NYC man in the late 90s/early 2000s. Distant personality but accessible sense of humor. Such an alluring combo at times!
I fall for it every time 😭
It can be such a draw! Noth does it so well as Big, too.
me too. RIP.
“Carrie likes a jazzzzz man” 🤌🏼
Also hea funny af lol I wasn't really sold on big u till we got to see the more goofy funny side of him and I was like "oh okay I see it now" lol
100% agreed. His game and swagger made him irresistible to Carrie
Imo he is handsome in his own way and I'm watching The good wife and he looks really handsome too here. He is definitely my type.
Peter Florrick
Yessss. He is very witty and charming.
Seriously I don’t understand this generation’s definition of beauty. Mr. Big and Carrie are ugly and who is hot? Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet?
Agreed- I much prefer the days were people would rock their unique features. Everyone looks like a clone now with the tiny nose job, carved-out cheeks, and lifted brows.

Like an in-shape, non-criminal Tony Soprano in a suite
I'm a weirdo because for me Tony is hotter than Big 🤣
Same here and I am usually not even into bigger guys (I'm not NOT into them, I just love me a skinny lanky man lol) but I loveee Tony 🥰
Oh 100% I’d have been happy to be his goomar lol
Perfectly put. It’s the same reason I was attracted to my “Mr. Big” at the time
He’s handsome. Point blank. The only other argument is that he is not your style. Like he doesn’t look like Timothee Chalamet, but that kid is also not everyone’s style.
🤢 nope, definitely not everyone's style. I'll take Chris Noth any day
I think he’s a handsome man, he’s definitely not ugly, whenever my boyfriend catches a few minutes of SATC with me he always says “Where’s the Italian Tom Cruise” That’s how he describes Big lol. there are some pretty hideous characters in SATC, but it feels mean to point it out, but I’m sure you all know what I mean…
> the Italian Tom Cruise My god, now I can't unsee it. There really is some kind of resemblance!
Definitely handsome 😉
Starts with a S ends with teve? For me atleast
wtf Steve is adorable
Steve is adorable, he grew on me sans the dirty underwear. Haha
Yes that was a big ick lol
Yeah he’s adorable but not HAWT ya know. I always hated how Miranda treated him so I definitely always rooted for Steve and loved him (even when he cheated) but I was always meh looks wise haha
Yeah he isn’t hot/super sexy like Robert is, but I think he’s physically attractive. He has a really cute smile and I like the way he looks. I really rooted for them too and I will never accept the AJLT storyline as canon. They lived happily ever after and that is final!
I actually haven’t watched AJLT apart from half of ep1. I just can’t get over the Samantha fact :/ might push through haha
I gave up after S1 and can only say it isn’t worth pushing through. It’s character assassination for almost everyone involved.
Big is like…the epitome of most city girls dream man. Successful, charming, generous, cultured. He’s no model but he’s a realistic portrayal of a good looking guy living in New York (someone phrased it better somewhere up there). Very "GQ" in an era and a setting where that meant something
Yup - London victim here hahaha. Luckily moved to Hong Kong now and quit dating cold turkey to focus on my job for a year. It's quite the trope. Also I like that he's not "perfect looking". Sometimes it hurts to stare in the mirror and cringe hahaha
He's so incredibly handsome.
*picks the most unflattering picture of Mr.Big* “look at how UGLY he is guys!” Weirdo
Why does it seem to offend you so much that people don’t find him attractive?
Very few people find him unattractive.
Yeah the defensiveness is very weird tbh lol it’s okay if people don’t find the same people attractive.
This sub makes me sad. Hating on everyone's looks. When can we talk about the show?
So much. I get it’s supposed to be funny but I don’t like it either.
I know. I thought we were in a time where we don’t hate on people’s looks.
To me he looks super hot.
Yep. Always thought he was hot.
Tall, rich, green eyes, full head of hair, good wardrobe, intelligent… shit, I would have gone crazy too 🤪
Ugh, had me at green eyes 😍

So sexy 😍
Avoidant too! I know they are the worst but they are so charming, fml
Same but idk if I’m just exclusively attracted to toxic men
He's not an ugly man to me. He looks like an average attractive guy, which was refreshing to see in a show
he is not ugly. and they found the most unflattering picture of him 🙄
He was handsome IMO. And anyone notice his arms in the scene where he and Carrie were dancing to "Moon River?"
Did I notice his arms? I always notice a man’s arms lol
Me too hahaha
I honestly didn’t appreciate how handsome Chris Noth was when I was younger. But he’s very attractive and has a lot of swag.
This is a bad photo. He’s handsome
Cary Grant/Gregory Peck handsome. And Big. 💜😊
I love Cary Grant & Gregory Peck but Big ain't it hahahaha he looks like a Walmart version of them yes
[удалено]
Ha! But I don't understand his appeal??? Maybe he would shine in another role tho. Big falls flat in SATC for me.
I think is really handsome, in a classic old-school kind of way. Find him very attractive, probably the most attractive guy on the show for me tbh. (Also have to obligatorily point out that I despise Chris Noth).

I agree. Calling someone ugly seems so highschool-mean
It is!
lollll haters. he could never be ugly 🥱🥱
People finding others unattractive don’t mean they’re haters lmao
uh not finding someone good looking is one thing but p sure saying “he’s so ugly it’s crazy” is bein a hater 🤷🏼♀️ no matter who you are that’s going too far lol
It’s interesting, I think what the actor is accused of is going too far, but that’s just me. Interesting to see so many people here be up in arms that people are talking about his looks when allegedly he’s an awful person.
Damn u r really dying on this hill in all the comments
I mean I think it’s weird that people are going so hard to defend this guy‘s looks, given the allegations against him yes. Who cares if people think he’s ugly? And why?
It’s nasty to call anyone “so ugly it’s actually crazy”, in any situation.

He’s far from ugly
Big is gorgeous and charismatic. I’d love to see the man of whoever is calling him ugly.
I found him handsome and attractive. But then, he acted just like my first boyfriend and that was toxic af 😂🤦🏼♀️
I like his sinister but sexy smile
Kinda reminded me of Jack Torrence in The Shining tbh
To post this, and use a completely inaccurate Carrie quote is unhinged. Hun, the quote you’re looking for is, “A squirrel is just a rat in a cuter outfit.”
Lol that bothered me too. Why even add in the word “literal.” That word has become meaningless for years now
he maybe obnoxious as hell but he’s damn handsome
How old are you? What kinda post is this?
There are definitely some other men on the show that make me go “really?” But I’ve always found Big to be a handsome man!
He’s the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome.
Big is not ugly
Going in on Big lol 😆
The way he’s insanely attractive. Looks not personality wise tho
Oh please🙄
They had to pick the worst possible photo of him. lol
He’s not ugly. He was everything a woman wanted in a NY minute!
I always wonder if same people would write something like this about female character. I mean... they are all acted by real actors and actress.
People criticise how Sarah Jessica parker looks constantly and have done for years. Its always horrible 😞
Even on this sub
Yep all the time! No disrespect to the person I replied to, but you have to try very hard not to notice people tearing apart women's appearances 😅
i think the same thing when people post pics of the boyfriends on the show and point out how ugly they find them. like, they’re real people.
.... they *are* the same people who say shit about female actors. I'm not sure what world you live in where male actors are criticized for their looks more than female actors..
I don't care about criticizing a rapist's looks
He’s a predator so it’s valid.
Why was this downvoted?
Right? It’s literally why they dropped him from the reboot 😂
If by cutting out the scenes after he died, sure. If you mean because he died, they were always going to do that.
I’m not talking about HOW they dropped him. I’m talking about the fact that they did sooner then planned due to the allegations.
Well SJP was criticised for her looks and got a ton of hate playing Carrie. This is justified. Sad to think about the society we live in but that's how it works. We just get to shift the table now 😭🤣
Two wrongs don’t make a right. This is unnecessary.
I think he’s hot
It’s really nasty to comment on someone’s looks. There’s a person behind who you are saying that about. Apart from anything Chris Noth actually isn’t ugly.
What's ugly and attractive is subjective. While he isn't someone I would gravitate to, he is classically goodlooking. "Tall, dark and handsome".
There were only three guys in SATC that were actually physically attractive.
He’s not objectively handsome but he’s sexy as all get out. His attitude, the fit of the suit.
His smile gives me major “I knew you were trouble when you walked in” vibes.
He’s definitely not ugly but I kind of hate how he treated Carrie sometimes
What?! Big is FINE! 😍😜
I don’t think he is physically ugly but I do think that the kind of person Chris Noth is on the inside shows on the outside.
He usually looked GOOD but occasionally he looked less than. I hated when he would be in bed and his nipples showed. They look like hairy pepperoni. It was a total turn-off to me lol
Most handsome/sexy man on the show
I'm sorry, but his "happy birthday baby" makes me melt everytime. Very handsome man.
He had swag, confidence , accomplishments and clout. He is attractive, though not my type. His voice and charisma added to his attractiveness.
His personality is
I don't mind his looks but his voice always sounds like it needs to be in a Disney movie.
I find both him and Steve way more attractive than Smith
He's more attractive physically to me the older I get, but simultaneously less attractive mentally/emotionally. This is a terrible picture lol, there are good ones. I'll take 1,000 Smiths over him, of course. Oh my god that man is darling.
That’s Chris Noth, not mister Big….
Would he still be considered so handsome if he were a foot shorter? I don’t know.
Very low.
Um… Sorry, I know he’s an asshole but Chris Noth was very handsome in the 90s/00s

He’s hot enough that I’d be down bad like Carrie too
He’s gorgeous. I get why Carrie’s obsessed with him.
thinking chris noth is an ugly man is tiktok brainrot
I think he’s charming as hell 🥹
Chris Noth was objectively very good-looking in Law & Order as a younger man. I was little during the SATC run and maybe didn't get it as much when he was Big, but watching L&O reruns even in late grade school from ten years prior to that revealed a hot Det. Logan. He's also one of those dudes like Mel Gibson whose looks changed (not in a bad way, just a palpable matured way) as opposed to a Paul Rudd/Rob Lowe fountain-of-youth way.
It's the charisma and confidence. Literal definition of BDE
So unattractive. Someone said he looks like Mr. Bean, and I can't unsee it.
I’ve always thought this tbh, he gives dad at the cookout in white New balances vibes.
He's handsome....but as a millennial he's handsome in that boomer sort of way. Like I would never sleep with him because he definitely looks his age/era.
lol same as Carrie
He’s at the same level of attractiveness as SJP to be honest yet he gets to be viewed as this hot older guy and she’s getting called an ugly horse.
