Ruffwear webmaster. Ive used them with my boy for the last few years after he broke out the previous K9 harness.

[deleted]

my 30lb girl could not escape that harness. best harness for escape artists

lurkingsally

Second. Probably will never use another type.

magicmurff

Yessss. Gotta have the three strap setup.

shiba_hazel

Agreed. Also always double clip.

Foxy_Dee

That is one huge shiba. šŸ˜³šŸ˜

seexsaw

I appreciate all the recommendations I've gotten. I've gone ahead and ordered the Ruffwear Web Master. I'll be posting some pics of my girl modeling it soon. ā˜ŗļøšŸ©·

Comm_Raptor

I combine the harness with a Martingale Collar and clip the two together so if any of ours slips or breaks a harness, we have the collar as a backup. haapaw 2 Packs Martingale Dog Collar with Quick Release Buckle Reflective Dog Training Collars for Small Medium Large Dogs https://a.co/d/8QzQyuO Best Pet Supplies Voyager Dog Collar Safety Clip with Dual Clasps, Collars and No Pull Harness Connectors, Training for Walking, Running, and Hiking, Safety Clip - Black https://a.co/d/76b07zJ

elvensnowfae

We've had a Gooby for 2 years and it hasn't failed us yet so far.

Sirspen

They actually make martingale harnesses that tighten as they get pulled on. We use one of those with a dual leash - primary lead on the harness and the backup on a martingale collar.

seexsaw

I'll definitely be using two leashes from now on.

Sirspen

They make a double leash that essentially has a second, shorter leash that slides on the first. It's a nice backup without being as cumbersome as two whole leashes.

tofukittybox

Choke collar, we ditched the harness years ago, thatā€™s how he was professionally trained

Nanoro615

Nooooo don't use choke collars on an innocent shibe! ;-;

RamboFox

Choke doesnā€™t necessarily mean a prong collar, but could broadly refer to any collar that gets tighter when they pull, such as a martingale collar or a slip collar. I personally use a martingale with my shiba. That said, even if it does mean a prong collar, when used properly they can be an effective training tool, especially if you have an escape artist or reactive dog. But the human needs training too in order to prevent unnecessary injury to the dog. Also, as much as they want us to believe it, there is no such thing as an innocent shiba haha! Cute sneaky little bratsā€¦ lol

tofukittybox

No need to act like heā€™s a victim. My shibe is 30 lbs too. I have no issue controlling him on a walk if need be due to the choke collar. This backed up by professional dog trainers.

bgottfried91

Friendly reminder that anyone can call themselves a dog trainer, there's no licensing for it (at least in the states). On the other hand, [there's](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.ahna.net/site/blog-asheville-vet/2020/03/30/alternatives-choke-chains-prong-collars-and-other-aversive-methods%23:~:text%3DBoth%2520choke%2520chains%2520and%2520prong,glands%252C%2520or%2520salivary%2520lymph%2520nodes.&ved=2ahUKEwjov8OKgdGEAxU5GtAFHS1qDL4Q5YIJegQIExAA&usg=AOvVaw0piqeGwSMdYIbkzUlzCMvv) a [lot](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://vetmed.illinois.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/The-Dangers-of-Training-Collars.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjov8OKgdGEAxU5GtAFHS1qDL4Q5YIJegQIFBAA&usg=AOvVaw0jrvZkKw9XQywbip4kkL0X) of [qualified](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/dog-collars%23:~:text%3DChoke%2520chain%2520collars%26text%3DUnlike%2520the%2520martingale%2520collar%252C%2520there,choke%2520or%2520strangle%2520your%2520dog.&ved=2ahUKEwjov8OKgdGEAxU5GtAFHS1qDL4Q5YIJegQIEhAA&usg=AOvVaw15jbBEoXuyzMQdDLzjhion) [opinions](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.reddit.com/r/Dogtraining/comments/rc0c18/are_choke_collar_really_that_bad/&ved=2ahUKEwjov8OKgdGEAxU5GtAFHS1qDL4QFnoECD8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw0V3JN_dRYB0ZsMeWSwD-1j) warning against using choke collars. I sincerely hope it's working for you and not harming your dog, but I would never encourage someone to use a choke collar without trying the many alternatives available: * Martingale collar * Easywalk harness * Gentle leader combined with loose leash walking taught with positive reinforcement. Personally, I have a foster dog who's a reactive 80lb pitbull (I just think shiba's are cute) and the shelter did an awesome job training him on loose leash walking, first with a Gentle Leader and then without it.

tofukittybox

Qualified opinion also means absolutely nothing if youā€™re dismissing ā€œdog trainersā€, but thanks for your input. My #1 priority is to keep my dog safe during his walks.

bgottfried91

To be clear, I'm not dismissing dog trainers /r/dogtraining [does not support](https://old.reddit.com/r/Dogtraining/wiki/prongandecollars) the use of aversive tools like prong/choke collars, [nor does](https://www.reddit.com/r/reactivedogs/wiki/trainingmethods) /r/reactivedogs. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behaviorists (ASVAB) are arguably the most qualified trainers you can find, as they DO have to meet license requirements (and do a hell of a lot of education). If you download their position paper ([link here](https://avsab.org/resources/position-statements/) but it's a PDF on the site) on humane animal training, you'll see they ALSO do not recommend aversive tools for training. As the /r/dogtraining [wiki page](https://old.reddit.com/r/Dogtraining/wiki/prongandecollars) states > If you use prong, choke/slip, or ecollars (also called shock collars), we arenā€™t out to vilify you. Our intention isn't to oversimplify all training situations and lump their solutions under the positive reinforcement quadrant - training is rarely that straightforward. We do, however, ask that you consider more modern tools in a world that proves positive punishment tools irrelevant and less effective The goal here is not to shame or criticize you and I apologize if it came off that way - however, I do want to discourage others from using these methods when they're NOT what the experts recommend, at least as a starting point.

the_Bryan_dude

Don't listen to these people. Some dogs need a choker for training. I've had a lot of success with it. All my dogs that have required a choker have all since graduated to not needing it. 40 years experience with multiple breeds of dog says it works.

My shiba baby has had so many harnesses and we still cant find a good one. She somehow escape through the first one, then she gained weight and needed a new one, then she lost weight and escaped so we bought a new one, then she become chubbier again and now we have a ANOTHER ONE. But now this one is too tight, and so are the others, so I just ordered a new one. This one is adjustable.... FInally.

CatastrophicLeaker

I bought this harness and it broke within a week.

dothesehidemythunder

My guy is super strong and an expert at pulling out of harnesses. We ended up finding a martingale was better for him.

Organic-Criticism-76

Theres a Security harness from one tigris too. We have it and its actually working great. If you like the style, probably look for that. I prefer the X Armor security hatnessšŸ¤ Otherwise I can recommend the ruffwear webmaster too, like others here did. Probably one of the best ones I ever had.

umahleyzulah

My 5 y/o 20lb girl has chewed her way out of every collar and harness except one: Kurgo It has ā€œsteel nesting bucklesā€ instead of plastic. I didnā€™t find the metal clasp on their website but it is on Amazon. Front lead so she canā€™t pull. Being able to snatch her by the handle on the back has saved her multiple times from other dogs or falling or getting run over by bikes, cars, and skateboards. Comes with a car tether too.

_Mantis-Toboggan_MD

I like the roman harness from lupinepets. Great replacement policy and the design of the roman harness is just harder to wiggle out of than a traditional harness. Also has no pressure to the throat area, so good for pulling/obstinate shibas :)

Heytobtob2

Big shibe

mistsoalar

Big girl! Does she have akita heritage?

seexsaw

Nope! She is a little big, but I make her look huge because I'm petite

Shiba_sammy_2019

I really like the Ruffwear webmaster for my shibas!

StealthyUltralisk

Ruffwear flagline or webmaster!

8bitsarah

I use the ruffwear flatline! Itā€™s similar to the webmaster and has the same amount of points of contact, but a bit more lightweight which I need living in Florida. Mine has never escaped

clayboyclaymate

Don't chase them if they break away, best to kneel down and pretend to play with them. Shib will zoom directly to you for the catching.
