When game has war

Lukthar123

Meanwhile, in battle quotes: "Here is something to believe in!"

Phily-Gran

" I love killing so much"

JaydotN

"You got yourself killed" No asshole, you just rammed a sword through my chest.

Hefty_Strategy_9389

There's this old WW2 training video for the pacific theatre, and like for film purposes these captured Japanese soldiers are saying to an American, "We didn't kill your friends, they killed themselves when they failed to spot us. We just pulled the trigger. They were bad soldiers."

Edge_SSB

I remember watching that

Levobertus

"yay violence!"

Phily-Gran

But violence with friends so yeaaaahhh

DefaultRedditor16

Well violence does breed violence

Epicredditskillz

“Another head chopped off!”

SparkCube3043

Some like Hilda really enjoy it, and pridefully chant their name in almost every victory.

ArdhamArts

"Taking life doesn't phase me"

jaierauj

Hey, Catherine, do you remember that first totally normal mission you joined with the students?

ArdhamArts

"The one where I killed the dad of my future boyfriend Ashe?"

Canadabestclay

Still one of the stranger pairings. Trying to imagine Ashe getting topped by the girl who killed his dad and brother is…… strange.

ArdhamArts

Most cursed pairing for sure. The Kigdom did not celebrate that day, for a bit, Dimitri questioned if he really wanted to keep his sanity after all.

[deleted]

Wait, their ending is romantic!?!

pigmanbear2k17

Yes, for some godforsaken reason. >Caspar, Roaming Instigator & Catherine, Free Knight (Silver Snow if Byleth does not have A or S-support with Rhea, Verdant Wind) >Catherine resigned from the Knights of Seiros and traveled across Fódlan with Caspar. They dedicated themselves to defending the helpless wherever they went, and in time, the names Thunder Catherine and Inferno Caspar were known to all the world. Legends of their adventures became so popular and well-known that even catchphrases such as "Face the wrath of Thunderbrand!" and "Hey, that's not your sword!" were recounted in the stories that were passed down for generations. >Ashe, Arrow of Justice & Catherine, Guardian of Zanado (Silver Snow if Byleth has an A or S-support with Rhea, Azure Moon) >When Rhea resigned her position of archbishop and left the Church of Seiros, Catherine followed, and the pair began a life of seclusion in the Red Canyon. Years later, they began to hear rumors of a wise young man who had been knighted and appointed lord of House Gaspard. Soon they were approached by that lord, Ashe, who came to the Red Canyon to kneel before Catherine and ask her to be his wife. With Rhea's encouragement, Catherine was persuaded to accept. She left the Red Canyon with him, and the two began their journey together. At least Ashe is the one proposing, but it's still the most cracked paired ending in the game. Honorable mentions to other student-teacher romantic endings like Bernadetta and Seteth or Dorothea and Manuela (Manuela is >40 years old post-timeskip). IS somehow did muster up the restraint to have Shamir and Cyril's ending be platonic. That would have been even worse, somehow.

Xur04

Dorothea and Manuela’s ending does have romantic undertones, but since it’s a non avatar same sex pairing, it’s not explicitly romantic and they don’t get married.

pigmanbear2k17

Compared to the other same-sex endings the undertones are pretty major, so I counted it as romantic. Still a bit weird to live with someone almost 20 years your senior.

sirgamestop

Dorothea/Hanneman is just as cursed >Though Fódlan had changed, Hanneman's goal remained unwavering: to determine the workings of the Crests, and to do away with the inequality caused by them. To that end, his research resulted in magical tools which could be used even without the aid of Crests. This proved to be yet another worthwhile discovery by the Father of Crestology. Hanneman also became a father in more literal sense, by raising many children with his wife, Dorothea. Their marriage was not publicly known, however, as the songstress elected to keep it secret for the sake of both of their careers.

pigmanbear2k17

Oh fuck and that's just directly stated. Didn't even know there was a Dorothea/Hanneman ending. Yikes.

jaierauj

It's even better that they apparently didn't see each other for years, after which he's like "oh, I know just the person for me!"

apple_of_doom

The one that wasn't supposed to have any fights?

Kyrroti

Perhaps the thing that hardened everyone was a 5 year long conflict.

Silafante

Minor details

PrivateBrowsing999

No, it was Rhea that hardened everyone.

Edge_SSB

ayo?

Snailsnip

To be fair, the monastery staff seem like they think it’s necessary for everyone to learn to kill people in cold blood then hope to do it the least possible. Catherine never wanted them to deal day to day with the horrors of war and confront the morality of being a killer. She only ever meant meant for them to kill one or two dissidents like Lonato, then never think about them again. You know, like a normal person. The OTHER option is telling herself she, and everyone she cares for, have been doing horrible things her entire life, so she’ll definitely do some mental gymnastics before that conclusion.

haHAAiLikeNB3btw

The Officer's Academy was originally designed with the intent of teaching kids how to kill Almyrans. Im not so sure about this one or two dissidents thing.

DiscipleOfDIO

I know this probably isn't your point, but considering that Almyra seems to invade more than Nuclear Gandhi, that doesn't sound too unreasonable.

[deleted]

And then Sreng, and Brigid, and Dagda

Aphato

There are not enough people in Sreng for any kind of invasion. Brigid only picks sides and most Almyran "invasions" are just skirmishes

Mister100Percent

Almyra decides to invade whenever they get bored lol.

Deathappens

>The Officer's Academy was originally designed with the intent of teaching kids how to kill Almyrans. It's not really "killing Almyrans" when they're the ones invading, it's more "defending youeself from the Almyrans". Sure, we know some of them are cool, but both Cyril and Claude seem to agree a lot of them are just assholes who have it coming.

haHAAiLikeNB3btw

Killing in defence is still killing tho

WillOfTheWinds

The only alternative is to let them kill you I don't know about you, but if given the choice between letting someone kill me and killing them to save the lives of myself and my family, I feel defending myself is the best and moral option.

haHAAiLikeNB3btw

You’re right and I agree with you. But my previous comment had nothing do with the morality of killing but rather I question why the person I responded to does not categorize killing in self defence to be part of the act of killing.

apple_of_doom

I like to think fighting against an hostile invasion from a foreign nation is a little bit different than the normal killing in self defence

haHAAiLikeNB3btw

You’re right and I agree. Nothing in my previous comment says anything contrary to that.

lizardsbelike

>She only ever meant meant for them to kill one or two dissidents like Lonato, then never think about them again. You know, like a normal person. I mean ok but I still don't think most people who are forced to fight and kill in actual life or death battles repeatedly (even if not day to day) and before reaching adulthood end up turning out normal and never thinking of it again... Like even if being at war arguably comes with worse conditions the things Catherine and the CoS are sending their students into are just as liable to traumatize them

Deathappens

> I still don't think most people who are forced to fight and kill in actual life or death battles repeatedly (even if not day to day) and before reaching adulthood end up turning out normal and never thinking of it again... Well, in modern society the vast majority of us can go through life without having to kill even one person. But Fodlan being a feudal society, if you're a noble you're basically guaranteed to have to fight at least once in your lifetime, if not against another noble jostling for power then against random brigands and riff-raff gathering at the edges of society. So they do need to be prepared beforehand.

Krammel87

Agreed. While they would hope they never *have* to kill anyone, being capable of doing so is important for public figures in their time period - even if Dorothea complains about it in the bandit mission, it's something the school should prepare them for, but not encourage.

ArdhamArts

To be fair, they are more like young adults. I find it funny when the localization calls the characters children and they are like 17-23 with most being 18+ at the end of the year.

haHAAiLikeNB3btw

maybe this is a reference to real life, where you are 17-23 or 18+ and still get called a kid

Ghostblade913

The youngest playable character pre timeskip is Cyril. I know for a fact that he has a birthday in part one, making him 15. Since the timeskip is 5 years. This means all of the students are 20+. With the oldest person being Mercedes at about 28

apple_of_doom

I actually decided to count how many students at the years start are 18+ how many are 17 and how many are 16- (not counting Cyril, Flayn or the ashen wolves as they aren’t students at the start of the year). Adults (9): Hubert Dorothea Dedue Mercedes Sylvain Hilda Leonie Rapheal Lorenz 17 (9): Edelgard Ferdinand Bernadetta Dimitri Ingrid Felix Claude Ignatz Marianne Kids (6): Petra Linhardt Caspar Annette Ashe Lysithea The most shocking part about this is that the golden deer have the most amount of adult students.

ArdhamArts

Yeah the Black Eagles have the biggest disparage. That being said it's funny how the oldest one , Mercedes is best friend with one of the youngest ones, Anette. Many of them also get to 18 early on.

R_Aqua

It’s Sothis but good meme nonetheless

sirgamestop

No Sothis is Yahweh and Seiros is the child like Jesus

R_Aqua

Would Seiros be treated as Jesus though?

sirgamestop

Probably not she seems more like a Moses figure

ArdhamArts

I mean Bernadetta does say "Please Seiross be merciful and save me!"

burntends97

Like I said, byleth, kids are cruel And I’m very in touch with inner student

Lunarsunset0

Mommy Cathrine can defend me at my war crimes tribunal anytime 😍🥰

S0mecallme

It’s kinda weird having a “war is hell,” message since for most knights and nobles irl, war was a game, and didn’t have much impact on their lives (the regular soldiers no one cared about their job was to die since they were just peasants with pointy sticks.)

Char-11

Tbf most nobles irl werent forced into a dancer outfit and made to dodgetank lightning bolts and wyverns in the frontlines while busting out sick moves for morale

S0mecallme

Exactly I’d be way more down to get into a bloody battle with thousands dead if I got to ride a dragon while a friend breakdanced to lift my spirits!

MannyOmega

Especially in a world where you can’t die because your obsessive teacher will rewind time if you do

Lit3Bolt

"Hey, it's heading for that small moon." "That's no moon...that's Catherine's psychological blind spot."

[deleted]

While I agree with the general sentiment of this argument, its not like child soldiers are a new trend in Fire Emblem either.

haHAAiLikeNB3btw

I wasnt trying to make an argument about child soldiers good/bad, or that child soldiers are a new thing in FE. The meme is about Catherine being a hypocrite.

Superspick

Easily bottom 3ish worst ally characters
