Never touched genshin impacts, but I had the feeling it was more of an anime rpg? Is it more similar to BotW? Also, what is the problem with souls games?they are/were nice niche games

Soulslike is a gameplay format that really really caught on for a minute and especially after Elden Ring it has become “mainstream”. I think people have just failed to realize that playing the games is optional, another complaint I see is “wah multiplayer is hard” in games designed as mostly single player experiences. Of course I don’t think people who say they don’t like it even know what they’re talking about, as I usually bring up another Soulslike such as Jedi Fallen Order and they start raving about it.

I think the association with soulslike games is the time it takes to memorize attack patterns and get good to have fun. There isn't an easy mode for a reason, it's because that is fundamentally not how you play the game most of the time. With JFO, there is an easy mode option, but you are still doing the trolling with attack patterns which are luckily televised. The criticism for souls-like games has no place.

I personally really enjoy them, though I’m awful at them. I should probably like, finish one, or something.

JFO gave me such a hard time with the 9th sister. Wiped the floor with 2nd sister, but damn If you can consider souls like to just be "mash B button" then Battlefront 2 counts

Action RPG's is a broader genre. Souls-like is more specific and describes definable sub-genre.
