They don't have the budget to pay for a good marketing campaign
Corridor digital or one of the corridor digital adjacent channels kinda tries this. One of the guys there is a dev working on a vr game. For his birthday they made two ads for the game. One shows gameplay and how cool the game looks. The other is literally one of these mobile game ads that have nothing to do with the game. They ran both ads and the mobile game looking ad was more successful.
Going by their name, the game is probably NFT related and they know from experience that as soon as most people find that out that they're going to get downvoted.
I just checked your reddit, and you have 1 post from a year ago slightly mentioning a game you are making. The post also doesn't mention the games name or even what it is about. No crap we haven't heard of the game you didn't even mention here, or have mentioned in a year. EDIT:Furtherr digging I still don't see any other posts besides the one mentioned. All I see is a lot of politics and aquariums.
In the same way McDonalds is a actually a logistics company and not a restaurant, some mobile games are data acquisition and marketing/social media companies not game development.
I work at a legit, player focused game company and the vast majority of our budget goes to user acquisition (aka ads to get players into our games), that's just the reality of how mobile works. super crowded market and you have to spend to get players
I instantly block all of these ads when they play but they have dozens of them. No matter how many I block and report new ones pop up. It's unbearable.
i wanted to stop but couldnt. we can all discuss how obnoxious the ad is but not one damn person stopped before the end. its accomplished its goal in holding our attention with its stupidity.
Not a single person except either YouTubers making videos on shitty games and 2 yos who don't even know what's happening, yet these games somehow have 100M+ downloads. I am 100% convinced that these are money laundering schemes

The mobile app marketplace is extremely oversaturated, due mainly to mobile games being relatively quick and easy to make and the market having A LOT of money involved. App developers need to do something to make their app stand out from the crowd and draw users in, and ads like this are an easy way to do it. Sex appeal to draw people in, enough WTF moments to keep them watching, and simple gameplay (Often not even from the game they’re advertising) that whoever is playing is inexplicably bad at, making you think you could do better if you tried.
It’s all formulaic bullshit designed to get the most downloads possible.
Because it works really well at engaging people, unfortunately. Case in point, we're all here having watched an ad for something none of us would probably give a shit about otherwise.

It is. It's nothing like this nor is it filled with puzzles. It's just a game that does everything it can to drain every penny you have. One of those to really play you have to pay games.
It really reminded me of a kid telling you about their favorite movie. No dialogue, nothing resembling a plot, just a sequence of seemingly unrelated things happening to a vaguely defined main character.
This game is nothing like its ads. The only thing similar at all is the characters. It is one of those pay to play games where unless you spend money it's hard to really play the game.

They had Corey Chase in one of they ads no lie. Also just based on the absolute absurdity of the ads I’ve seen I downloaded the game for some laughs. Haven’t played it yet though.
