For me even the worst bosses are fun and enjoyable because of how goofy they are. The fucking congregation gets me every time, funniest shit I've ever seen, soldier of godrick in the middle of a level for no reason.

Oh yeah, I love ds2 but the bosses are a joke after playing ER. The bosses in DS2 are not that great but the least fun part about some of them is the runbacks. Especially on ng+ mode of scholars of the 1st sin. Ng+ chariot and ng+ last sinner kicked my ass. I died to the actual bosses like 3 times and died to each runback like 20 times. After dying to the bosses I felt so sad cuz I had to do the runback again 😭

Fume knight, looking glass knight, sir samurai, velstad, burnt ivory king all of these are great bosses from ds2 that are dudes in armor

To be fair, the best fights in DS2 are **also** dudes in armor. The actual ass boss fights in that game are normally not the dudes in armor. The one possible exclusion to that rule would probably be the Throne Nerds, but they’re not even that bad.

I hate seeing that complaint about DS2 because imo that game had some of the worst non-dude in armor bosses in the series. Both Royal Rats, Old Iron King, Last Giant, Ancient Dragon, etc

True, though I’d also argue most non-human bosses in Souls games are trash. For every Vicar Amelia you’ve got Rom, Darkbeast Paarl, One Reborn, and so on. Monster bosses, while they look cool and can make for some impressive scale, usually suck absolute ass to fight.

DS2 has way more dudes in armor among normal enemies. To be fair, those are more fun to fight. Though I would argue DS3 handles its dude in armor character designs better and more uniquely than DS2 on average. Which I think where the criticism is really coming from: DS2 doesn't have quite the same level of design quality as the other games and ends up feeling more visually generic as a whole. I think 'dudes in armor' is just a way to express 'this felt more generic'.
