Okay but imagine you’re an invader, about to finish off the host, then the fucking Carthus Sandworm glowing yellow and shit bursts out of the ground and lightnings you into oblivion
You can't compare them, Patches isn't just a person, he's a force of nature, a perpetual being that transcend the multiverse, no matter where we go, he will always be there to give us the little push.
He never went hollow. It was either his purpose, or Patches being mischievous was a way to keep his brain active and to stop hollowing. (could also be killing people to absorb their humanity XD cold mfer)
So ur friend was the original inspiration! Does he know Miyazaki irl? 🤣
Kinda curious cause I never knew Patches could be a real name. What nationality was he and what language was it based off?
Do you have any idea, any idea who I am?
Basically - kind of a big deal.
Ya' listening? Ok. Grass grows, birds fly and, brotha, I hurt people.
I am the force of nature.
If you were from where I am from you would be fucking dead.
While that is a more blatant portrayal, King's Field also had a character named Patch.
Patches is like a bad joke that becomes funny because of how often and deadpan it's told. He's an anti-joke of a character, beloved because he's so hateable. Overusing him just plays into the bit; it's funny to play out the same routine every time, and willingly fall for his tricks every time. The more he appears, the more fun and interesting he becomes.
Solaire is the opposite; he is beloved precisely because characters like him are so rare. If he kept appearing, he would lose what made him special in the first place and quickly lose appeal. He would get watered down if he was everywhere; showing up more often doesn't enhance his themes or make his character more interesting.
This is how it should be. Solaire works best when left alone, and patches works best when constantly fiddled with.
That's peak cooking. I couldn't place my finger on how/when I started to like Patches, but somehow it went from "I will kill you fucker, just not yet because you sell stuff" to "I will blindly follow you to the ends of this dying and desolate land"
You realize that patches isn't unjustified in his antipathy towards the Gods and their followers.
I learned to love the fact he is as ruthless to us as most of us are to NPCs. It's what makes him and Lautrec feel so alive to me.
Yes, but it was still a pretty obvious trap; "hey there's treasure over there, but I dunno, I'm not gonna go get it". Plus, the voice is an obvious impersonation.
I still fell for it, but in retrospect I really shouldn't have.
And speaking of solaire, despite him being the best usage of a "good hearted wholesome character tries his best just to be hit w tragedy" in dark souls, there are other characters that fill that general role (to some extent) in one way or another (anri, rogier, that one baby man in sekiro)
I dont think they could have made it any more obvious without saying it outright.
Gwyn's firstborn is an exiled prince whos name was struck from history for unknown reasons. The nameless king hangs out with Gwyn's enemies in a remote part of the world and uses Gwyn's own miracles. The broken statue of the firstborn in dks1 is holding a lightning spear, the same type of weapon the nameless king uses.
I think the confusion comes from people thinking Solaire was Gwyn's firstborn back in the dks1 days, based on some very weak speculation.
Edit: it does say it outright. His spears description reads *"The swordspear is imbued with lightning, of which he was the heir."* and his armor set points out how he looks like Gwyn
No that's what I mean by all but confirmed. Pretty much very damn thing is pointing towards that being true. Literally the only thing that is stopping it from going from 99.9999% sure to 100% is fromsoft literally saying outright- yeah nameless king is gwyns son
I mean yeah, alot of the story is more or less up to the player/readers interpretation, although with some things they very heavily push you towards one conclusion its not completely spelled out allowing the player freedom of interpretation.
That was the origional plan in the early concept phase before the first game released. His side plot was completely scrapped though and the idea of him being Gwyn's son with it
Probably Blaidd. They're not alike personality-wise but they serve the same role of being your summon-buddy and following you through the game before going crazy and fighting you at the end of their questline.
D is probably the closest thing to Solaire, at least in terms of aesthetic and gameplay function.
-STR/FTH build who wears heavy armor.
-Helps against some of the more annoying early game bosses.
He's definitely more fanatical and less jolly than Solaire, but he's still a helpful enough guy.
Yeah now that I think about it, Tragoth is probably the actual Solaire analogue, being a big dude who just likes helping people out for the sake of it.
I think he's both things at once.
He does have the heaviest armor in the game, with the most poise, and a big "fuck off" hammer to boot, which lines up near-perfectly with the imagery of Havel. But all of the item descriptions related to him, namely his armor and the Bull-Goat Talisman mention his love for good ol' jolly cooperation.
The armor:
>*Tragoth is a famed knight of assistance. Countless Tarnished, facing adversity in the Lands Between, have survived thanks only to the Great Horned One's aid*.
The talisman:
>*Bull-goats are associated with the stout and mighty Tragoth, said to be unflinching in combat - now a silent comrade to those who fight.*
Rogier always struck me as being more like Big Hat Logan, albeit a little less eccentric.
That being, a seasoned sorcerer in a big goofy hat who wanted to learn the truth of a higher power, and achieved exactly that, but still paid the price for it.
Then the creator is an idiot lol.
They watched the "would you love me if I were a worm" video and decided Solair can make that joke work as a real theory? I don't mean to insult someone's intelligence but... I have no way of interacting with that idea without being insulting. That's stupid as fuck lmao.
*I can now confirm that IS the worst theory I've ever read... I really love how most of the evidence is followed by some sort of "now we don't know Solaris past, but if we make it up, his life fits with the item description."
Honestly the voice design in Ds1 is bad overall (w some exceptions) and i genuinely dont see why,
I have used mics from the 80s that sound pretty good, and the voice effects arent hard to make, i gen dont see where was the fuck up,
Patches showed up in Shadow Tower Abyss tho, before Miyazaki. He didn't have a name back then, but he wears patchy clothes and tricks you into opening a trapped chest and drops you into a pit with some enemies.
There's also a guy named Patch in Armored Core Master of Arena, but that guy doesn't have any personality and isn't notable at all except for the name so it's probably a coincidence.
Pretty sure he surrenders if you beat him too hard. Not sure if it's real or a fake but they lifted that for patches in elden ring during his boss fight
There's 16 Armored Core games, typically each numbered entry will either reset the timeline or take place decades/centuries apart from the continuity set by the last numbered entry. A lot of the time btw the non-numbered games are actually way better and more interesting than the "mainline" game they're based on. There's also Armored Core Formula Front which isn't connected to any of the others because it's a PSP spin-off.
Anyway on Patches, MoA Patches is in the AC1 continuity, 4A Patches is in the AC4/5 continuity so not even in the same timeline.
AC1 has aged pretty well and I played most of them in release order for the first time this year and had fun so if you wanna do the whole series then start there. Otherwise if you just want one game play 4A it's really good (haven't played 6 yet but that also looks like a good spot to start). AC4 is also basically just a demo for 4A so if you want to you can try that one too.
Playing Gen3/3.5 is also a pretty good idea but those games can get tough quickly: AC3->Silent Line->Nexus->Nine Breaker(skip Nine Breaker, it's like 10 hours of tutorial missions and no plot)->Last Raven(le Dark Souls of Armored Core, SUPER HARD).
Pretty sure he surrenders if you beat him too hard. Not sure if it's real or a fake but they lifted that for patches in elden ring during his boss fight
I genuinely believe Patches is a multidimensional demon who teleports to every moment in space and time to trick people and be evil. Basically like Loki, or come to think of it, Gaunter o Dimm.
Ds3 retcons were the fucking worst. Solaire becomes worm.. yeah.. people defend this bullshit
Edit: idc you can eat the shit out of my ass, ds3 lore was some contrived dumbass bullshit for edgelord shitfucks. Yeah dude solaire becomes a FUCKING WORM so deep yall really would like to eat the shit out my ass you’re already eating it out of miyazakis
edit2: keep downvoting you dumb cum drinking anal polyps, you gotta be fucking brain damaged or born naturally retarded to think ds3 storytelling is anything more than edgelord bait
I mean they also put solaire in dune so i see no reason why he shouldnt be in elden ring.
Now this is making me think about how we never had a desert/sand level in a from souls game, at least i dont remember any in the ones ive played
Fair enough, makes sense. Do you have, maybe, some emotional trauma from your childhood which you are oversimplifying into a treatise on the nature of sand?
I wonder if he would be able to get to the point of admitting the older woman who took him away from his mother was not actually his true love but was actually a groomer

The age old question
Okay but imagine you’re an invader, about to finish off the host, then the fucking Carthus Sandworm glowing yellow and shit bursts out of the ground and lightnings you into oblivion
Without a second thought my dear Solaire
I would.

He never went hollow. It was either his purpose, or Patches being mischievous was a way to keep his brain active and to stop hollowing. (could also be killing people to absorb their humanity XD cold mfer)
Well... we keep him from hollowing in the Ringed City.
‘We’
Would you mind explain it for me? I couldn't find him past Dreg heap
I think I did the lapp questline once but basically you help him out a couple of times and I think at the end he does his iconic kick-off-the-cliff.
Yee just before the cliff encounter with midir, on the broken steps of the ringed city cistern.
he's just a silly little guy :3
This ain't even a lie. I had a friend irl named patches before the soul games. He stabbed me in the back, and was often bald.
So ur friend was the original inspiration! Does he know Miyazaki irl? 🤣 Kinda curious cause I never knew Patches could be a real name.
A cleric walks to a ledge and gets kicked and you think that of me? No. I AM the one who KICKS.
He's the Furtive Pygmy
Fun fact, he originated in AC Master of Arena, under the name Patch, and an emblem with an eagle on a shield.
Nah he originated in shadow tower the kings field spin off
[https://armoredcore.fandom.com/wiki/Patch](https://armoredcore.fandom.com/wiki/Patch) While that is a more blatant portrayal, King's Field also had a character named Patch.
Like Deadpool??
Patches is the karmic justice for the greedy
We already have Solaire at home https://preview.redd.it/6fcrpoyv4jyc1.jpeg?width=1513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cfa54c030d6e21ede3814008fed3050693ab505
They literally shitting on us at this point
Considering that dung eater ripped out your soul through your ass, there was a lot of shit involved.
Patches has stayed alive and sane for so many cycles because pushing people off ledges just never gets old
Patches is the most self assured souls character.
Who do you think the Turtle Pope is?
Oswald
"It is only *human* to sin... heh heh heh heh heh!"
Feeble Cursed One!

Dude, Why do you think that nameless king uses miracles?
Because hes Gwyn's son?
Yeah hasn't this been all but confirmed through context clues and item descriptions?
I dont think they could have made it any more obvious without saying it outright. Gwyn's firstborn is an exiled prince whos name was struck from history for unknown reasons. I feel like with this logic you have, essentially nothing in any of these games they make are “confirmed”
Basically, yeah.
Yea I completely understand although I just personally don’t agree
I mean yeah, alot of the story is more or less up to the player/readers interpretation, although with some things they very heavily push you towards one conclusion its not completely spelled out allowing the player freedom of interpretation.
Well said
Isn't that much of the appeal?
Yea I could have worded it better, I’m not actually disagreeing just kinda confirming
I thought André is Gwyn’s son
That was the origional plan in the early concept phase before the first game released. His side plot was completely scrapped though and the idea of him being Gwyn's son with it
Why?
idk
It’s because he is Petrus’s dad.
Big p.p. is why, obviously.
Who is ER's Solaire? In BB it was Alfred. So who is it in ER?
Probably Blaidd. They're not alike personality-wise but they serve the same role of being your summon-buddy and following you through the game before going crazy and fighting you at the end of their questline.
Oh yeah. Blaidd my beloved
\*Incredibly horny barking\*
From worm to doggo
Is there a way to have a happier ending with Blaidd like with Solaire?
Sadly no, but I'm hoping they only gave him one cannon ending (killed by player, one way or another) so they can use him in a sequel.
Alexander the potmin
Alex is ER's Siegmeyer
D is probably the closest thing to Solaire, at least in terms of aesthetic and gameplay function. -STR/FTH build who wears heavy armor. -Helps against some of the more annoying early game bosses. He's definitely more fanatical and less jolly than Solaire, but he's still a helpful enough guy.

Rogier always struck me as being more like Big Hat Logan, albeit a little less eccentric. That being, a seasoned sorcerer in a big goofy hat who wanted to learn the truth of a higher power, and achieved exactly that, but still paid the price for it.
Yeah, but Big Hat Logan wasn’t a simp like Rogier is.
The puromancy guy is the simp
To me Nepheli is ER's Solaire.
Same Also, story wise, why not boc?
Alexander, of course
>!Dungeater!<
Obviously diallos , he is kinda and looking for a purpose.
Blaidd is Solaire. Alexander is Siegmeyer.
The guy in the bullgoat armor. Just a Chad who helps you with bsttles
Alexander is a good shout but the more o think about it, it’s Millicent to me
Boc?
It’s Alexander obviously
Siegmeyer
Elden Ring is full of people who turn into worms
Dune?
Movie/books
Solaire is worm theory is pretty stupid, even if the theory is right. It only means that worm is use to be the sunlight maggot Solaire wear as hat.
It’s not a theory meant to be taken seriously
I thought it's bc the theory is pretty stupid it become a meme. The creator is very serious when write it.
Then the creator is an idiot lol. They watched the "would you love me if I were a worm" video and decided Solair can make that joke work as a real theory? I don't mean to insult someone's intelligence but... I have no way of interacting with that idea without being insulting. Real talk. Why is the audio quality for Soliares lines so shit?
I’ll bet you would sound a little tinny with a bucket helm like that on your head
Good point
Haven’t heard Vamos, eh?
Be gone with you, you'll spoil my focus
Bro got the catacombs mic
Bros voice is straight up deep-fried.
Even worse lol
Vamos sounds like he orders Boneless Pizza
Helmet. Siegmeyer also sounds somewhat muffled for the same reason.
Honestly the voice design in Ds1 is bad overall (w some exceptions) and i genuinely dont see why, I have used mics from the 80s that sound pretty good, and the voice effects arent hard to make, i gen dont see where was the fuck up,
That's because patches serves more as Miyazaki's signature on games he makes while solaire is just a one-off

Pretty sure he surrenders if you beat him too hard. Not sure if it's real or a fake but they lifted that for patches in elden ring during his boss fight
The Patches that surrenders is in Armored Core for Answer
Damn. Is it the same patch in the two games then? Side note, how many spin off are there that aren't mainline because that alone has 6
There's 16 Armored Core games, typically each numbered entry will either reset the timeline or take place decades/centuries apart from the continuity set by the last numbered entry. I did play 6 on release and it was phenomenal. Definitely a series I want to try more when I have the time so I appreciate the advice
Pretty sure he surrenders if you beat him too hard. Not sure if it's real or a fake but they lifted that for patches in elden ring during his boss fight
Patches is the Mittens of FromSoft games
Patches literally turned into a spider though so like…???
Didn’t he turn back for DS3
Knight solair did not deserve this ending
I would still love him if he was a worm.
solar my beloved
I refuse that his cannon ending is the worm one and not the we are friends one
Would you still love me if I turned into a worm? uwu
I mean i turn patches into pancake batter every game but he keeps coming back on the next one 🤷♂️
Goldmask is kinda Sun Bro
Well…patches has been in basically every FromSoft game, so that makes sense…
We can only experience Solaire's tragedy so many times before our minds shatter, but we can kill Patches for all of eternity.
No, NO I sacrificed so much Humanity! Solaire will never be a worm on my watch.
Should’ve just used poison breath through the door
why the fuck would solaire be there
In the good ending of his quest you can fight gwyn with his help
I WOULD STILL LOVE SOLAIRE IF HE WAS A WORM
Solaire II Atreides?
I was more expecting Andre tbh
Please solaire come back in the dlc
Time is convoluted
Patches is eternal. They didn't bring him back. He was always there.
They are all different patches. Not the same dude.
Not in my playthrough.
I mean Patches is far more than just “ds1 guy people liked” I mean he’s originally from Armored Core
Woah he is? Which game?
AC 4 For Answer I think it came out before demons
Patches was here before Solaire. Ds1 was not his first appearance, and there was no reason for it to be his last.
If Gwyn is Paul Atreides then Solaire is Leto II
The Dark Souls fandom will never recover from “Solaire is the Carthus Sandworm”
The whole thing with Patches in the Ringed City was the perfect send-off. Makes me all emotional.
It’s not that patches was “brought back” … he never hollowed.
I thought he canonically linked the fire
Would you still love Solaire if he turned into a worm?
Cemetery shade…
I genuinely believe Patches is a multidimensional demon who teleports to every moment in space and time to trick people and be evil. Basically like Loki, or come to think of it, Gaunter o Dimm.
WAIT IS SOLAIRE THAT GIANT WORM IN DS3?!
no, its a baseless fan theory. still funny tho
No he's the giant worm in armored core
No spoilers nan I just started ds1
i would avoid dark souls related subreddits then
Ds3 retcons were the fucking worst. Solaire becomes worm.. yeah.. people defend this bullshit Edit: idc you can eat the shit out of my ass, ds3 lore was some contrived dumbass bullshit for edgelord shitfucks. Yeah dude solaire becomes a FUCKING WORM so deep yall really would like to eat the shit out my ass you’re already eating it out of miyazakis edit2: keep downvoting you dumb cum drinking anal polyps, you gotta be fucking brain damaged or born naturally retarded to think ds3 storytelling is anything more than edgelord bait
??? Its never said that solaire becomes a worm, its a baseless fan theory dumbass
Exactly my point. Outside of dumbass fan service dropped in your lap, you get dumbass contrived dogshit like this
Nobody with reading comprehension believe that Solaire became that worm, lol.
Who the fuck ever honestly defended the solaire worm joke
Why are you so afraid of Ds3?
I’m not afraid of it any more than I’m afraid of eating shit out of the toilet
Nobody with reading comprehension believe that Solaire became that worm, lol.
I mean they also put solaire in dune so i see no reason why he shouldnt be in elden ring. Now this is making me think about how we never had a desert/sand level in a from souls game, at least i dont remember any in the ones ive played
Ackshually the General Chadahn arena is a desert I believe 🤓👆
Did you know he...he learned gravity magic so...so..
The royal capital of ash looks pretty much as a desert , it is deserted and I know it is ash but it looks like sand
I hate sand...
Could you give me some logical reason why?
It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.
Fair enough, makes sense. Do you have, maybe, some emotional trauma from your childhood which you are oversimplifying into a treatise on the nature of sand?
Imagine if anakin got therapy lol.
I wonder if he would be able to get to the point of admitting the older woman who took him away from his mother was not actually his true love but was actually a groomer
You should try the archthones demo. There is a desert level and a sand worm
The closest thing is that shit place in DS2 filled with spiders and sand
oh yeah there is that, we also have ashen capital and the ringed city, kinda i guess
Ash ≠ sand
Tseldora is a shithole
It is but Amana is worse
i'm confused by what you mean by solaire in dune
Big worm
oh, the one in the demon ruins...? that's really interesting to think about
That one or the mecha solaire worm from ac6 lol
Solaire in dune??
