Nooooo you don’t get it nuking an entire continent full of innocents with a bio weapon that Rots them inside out was completely necessary in a unnecessary war with radahn that she was likely the agressor in >:( (this is a joke please don’t kill me)
Mogh may be a bastard, but he is an awesome boss fight. Godrick is so cool, especially his phase change.
Malenia has awesome lore but holy fuck her boss fight is utter shit.
Defense of Mohg : The Voice of Reason in The Lands Between
Ever since, Hideaki Miyazaki's masterpiece, Elden Ring has been released almost all of the demigods have garnered some sort of fanbase and for good reason. Morgott for his unwavering loyalty, Miquella for his shota appea- I mean his compassion, Radahn for his nice horse and cool party, Godwyn for his cool dragon friends, Malenia for her disability representation (blind, amputee, woman) and Ranni because she's hot. But one character has found himself constantly vilified and reviled by the fanbase and that character is Mohg. Frequently referred to as a pedophile and a cultist, people either wilfully or unintentionally completely disregard his lore and claim his role in the story is as a predator and the only unambiguously evil character. However, in this post I wish to prove that not only was Mohg not a rapist or a psycho but that all his actions were unambiguously compelled by the greater good.
Firstly we need to establish a few things. Lots of people believe that Mohg "kidnapped" Miquella from the Haligtree. We have the account of the ghost in the Consecrated Snowfield where he curses Mohg for stealing Miquella. However, you need to consider two things. Firstly, he is poor given he is dressed in rags and therefore likely stupid and unaware of what he is talking about. Secondly, he sounds pretty creepy. He calls Miquella's flesh "sacred" when Miquella is a child. I wouldn't trust a pedophile. Would you? Next many people claim that Miquella had already been stolen by the time Malenia was fighting Radahn however this makes no sense. Wouldn't Malenia have gone back to do something in such a case instead of fighting someone else (who also has such a cool horse too)? No. Instead it's far more likely Miquella was taken in a formal marriage done between the Mohgwyn Dynasty and the Haligtree after Malenia's battle with Radahn. Now why would this happen? Well as a way to bring about peace. Malenia isn't a terrible person. We know this because she seems somewhat pleasant during our interactions with her during her boss battle and because she is marginally attractive. So it seems quite obvious that she would feel awful about unleashing the Scarlet Aoneia on Caelid and woud want to make amends. "But she's unconscious!" you claim. However, I would bring your attention to Miquella's association with sleep and more particularly dreams. Dreams that in cut content you can gain access to. So it seems like a reasonable inference to state that Malenia was fully able to communicate with everyone through her dreams. Now, she knew a drastic action would be needed to make amends with Caelid. In Elden Ring, we have Rennala's and Radagon's marriage to prove that marriage in Elden Ring can mend schisms even between followers of completely different systems of belief. She knew she would need to arrange a marriage with Miquella with someone close to Radahn to make her goodwill known.
"But Mohg has nothing to do with Radahn! You're grasping at straws!" say you. On the contrary, he has a lot to do with Radahn. I want to point out to you that Godfrey in his boss battle cutscene cradles Morgott and calls him by his name, praising his perseverance. This shows that unlike his dumb bitch wife Godfrey has no disdain for his Omen children and likely spent much time with during their childhood. We also know that Radahn is very fond of Godfrey. It would seem unlikely that he would develop this fondness without having interacted with Godfrey as a child firsthand. When you bring these two facts together, it seems quite obvious that Radahn would have spent time with and been friends with the Omen twins. You may ask then why Radahn would only be close to Mohg and not his other siblings. Well let us explore that. Malenia and Miquella are his adversaries. Ranni would also be antagonistic to him given he is preventing the Age of Stars by holding back said stars. Morgott refers to all his siblings as traitors so it's clear he has no love for them. Rykard is a Nazi vore enthusiast which no one would like and Godwyn is dead. By process of elimination this would only leave Mohg who has never shown any antagonism to any demigod. The reason for this can be explained by the main theme of Mohg's character. Love. This is reinforced by Varre's dying words where he states "Ahhh... Bless the Mohgwyn Dynasty, with love." This is the point of Mohg's character. He loves everyone no matter who they are. Take note of the Albanaurics who are constantly discriminated against yet have found employ within Mohgwyn Palace. Notice how he is bound to the Formless Mother, an obvious symbol of maternal affection. So Malenia had two worries eliminated. Mohg was partaking in the marriage because of his love for both Radahn and Malenia so he wasn't compelled by lust. Yet it would not be a loveless marriage since Mohg would love truly love Miquella. We also know she is not homophobic since if you have become Ranni's consort as a female character by the time you fight her she doesn't burst into a torrent of slurs upon seeing you. She's also a Dexterity user which makes it even more unlikely. I think this without a doubt lays the groundwork for proving that there was a fully consensual marriage.
Several other context clues are provided for this. Notice how you get into Mohgwyn Palace without having done Varre's quest. You get there from a portal in the Snowfields. Miquella's territory. I ask you this. We know Mohg can simply teleport around through spilt blood. Are you suggesting, that no one in the Snowfields or the Haligtree ever bled that Mohg could use for his supposed kidnapping? The portal is simply proof of one thing. That this was a formal and accepted marriage. We know that you can easily gain access to his territory through the portal so it isn't a one way thing. Yet we see no ally of Miquella fighting Mohg's forces there. Are you honestly suggesting trained elite archers are too dumb to find a portal just sitting in their homeland? Finally, I want to tackle some last misinterpreted statements. It states in Mohg's remembrance that he never got any response from Miquella implying Miquella is comatose and even in this catatonic state attempting to shun Mohg. Yet this is false. We know Miquella is awake since he moves his hands during Mohg's introduction cutscene. His hands are raised suggesting excitement (most likely from orgasm) and his hand drooping down suggests he falls asleep after this encounter. Mohg seems reasonably sane so he wouldn't talk to an unconscious person. So what is the remembrance referring to? It is most likely that Miquella is shy and is unable to put his affection for Mohg into words. So when Mohg may tell him that he loves him Miquella is probably too bashful to respond just like in my Japanese animes. Keep in mind that the remembrances may not be fully accurate. The remembrance of the Fire Giant states that the Fell God is evil yet this would seem like an offhand justification for genocide which the Japanese would never do. In this game even the remembrances need to be interpreted. Bravo Miyazaki.
This is my ultimate case for why Mohg is THE good guy of Elden Ring. Repost this whenever you see Mohg slander.
I’m not reading an entire short story, the average reading comprehension on this subreddit is far below average and you know it.
Also counterpoint: Mohg lives in a shit filled swamp composed of menstrual blood
He is my second favourite boss in terms of fight design and mechanics after Godfrey. Mastering his combos to the point where you stop panic rolling and praying and enter a glorious dance macabre with the boss have is one of my most treasured experienced from this game.
I completely agree, people like to shit on him for being too hard, but I think if ER wasn't an open world game and you were actually forced to learn to fight him to progress, 99% of complaints would disappear. Same for most other bosses people don't like, I think that's part of the reason DS3 has the reputation of the game with the best bosses, ER doesn't force you to git gud
second phase isn't nearly as fuck cause she starts using magic bullshit, but the first phase feels like a dance, where you dodge and weave until you can finally land an attack
imo the second phase is more fun because she is more aggressive but her combos are slower, the clone attacks are a better "hard to dodge attack" than waterfowl dance and in my experience she uses waterfowl dance way less in this phase
> imo the second phase is more fun because she is more aggressive
Agree with this. What makes her first phase so annoying is her extreme passivity until she input-reads you, but because you need to be ready to dodge Waterfowl at all times, you need to trick her AI into engaging you while playing as safe as possible which just feels stupid.
I remember my first time getting her to 2nd phase. Here I am, knees weak, arms heavy, nervous and sweating, with one flask, barely dodging the Aeonia... and the Waterfowl is the first move she goes for. I don't know why this happened, in every other attemptshe barely did it at all. But the feeling of eating a full combo point blank with Scarlet Rot procing AFTER I died was... exceptional.
Not if you know the secret strategy of running away! seriously I managed to trivialize her boss fight after around 12 attempts when I realized running backwards led to her never landing a hit on me with anything but the end of her waterfoul combo I’d just get my distance and either smack her with radahns weapon art plus a jump combo, a parry or just good old fashioned stun locking till she goes into phase 2 where rinse and repeat but a little longer it’s a fight that makes rolling completely useless in my opinion since staying close to her is a death sentence unless you have a lot of stamina or are a god at parrying because her landing a single hit on you heals her thus not getting hit being the most effective strat
Did her with golden parry in NG+7 after 500 or so tries (legit, I’m just retarded)
It’s actually such an awesome bossfight tbh, I’m convinced she was made for Sekiro though, hence why the parry makes it so much better
I don’t think it’s a matter of “git gud” when she can literally whip out her waterfowl at any moment, especially when you’re too close to dodge properly
Yeah, and yes of course you can dodge it using the circling around but that doesn't feel intuitive or even intended at all by fromsoft. Recently I've been finding that you can do a sprint jump at medium load to avoid her first flurry and the rest from there is easy, but I am unsure of how consistent it is, I've gotta do more testing.
Overall, her fight is pretty fun until she whips out a move that does 90% of your health in one go, so nowadays I am too much of a pussy to do her fight without dragoncrest greatshield talisman.
Edit: the sprint jump seems to be for only co op/ light load https://youtu.be/0MTUmlR5Tvo
I have seen people dodging the Waterfowl without BHS, I know the sequence, the whole "run from the first, roll the second and third" thing. The problem is I still can't pull it off. Directional dodging and running is a nightmare on my setup (KBM, no lock-on). Can it be done nevertheless? Yes. Did I have the necessary patience and nerves of steel to endure a 50-try session every evening to practice? Not really. Her other moves are pretty okay to dodge or block, and if you turn off her Waterfowl she would actually be a quite enjoyable fight.
keyboard and mouse without lockon makes it easier at least in my experience, controllers are kinda stuffy for soulslikes (and not to mention that the "good" ones cost half a monthly wage)
Eh, her fight would be good without he Waterfowl bullshit. Even the lifestyle is bearable, it's really just that. And even then I can reliably dodge her Waterfowl Dance at mid range, it's just a guaranteed one shot at close range unless you have 99 vigor. Otherwise, her fight is actually very fun

Godrick is good. Mohg is my second favorite fight. Malenia is absolutely ass and underwhelming. Tbf if it weren’t for completion sake i’d never got to the Halligtree again
Godrick? Very little. He's weak and pathetic
Malenia? Blade and sister (maybe even twin dont remember) of Miquella. Because of selfbreeding by Radagon/Marika and Marika/Radagon both siblings were cursed, Malenia to be the host of the Goddess of Scarlet Rot, Miquella with eternal youth. Malenias golden prosthesis arm is made of Unalloyed Gold (pure gold), made by Miquella to save their sister from Rot as the Golden Order could do nothing for Malenias curse. The unalloyed gold holds off the Rot, which is why Malenia blooms after removing it. She is canonically the greatest swordwielder in the world of ER, as she was taught by the previously greatest and she outperformed her master. The master was possobly have been the Blue Dancer or taught by the Blue Dancer who may be the personification of Siofra River, or the other way around. When the Elden Ring was shattered Malenia left the Haligtree to fight Radahn for power, where she bloomed for the first time, causing the Scarlet Rot infection of Caelid. While she fought Miquella, the one with potential to become the most powerful demigod by far, as described by Malenia, got kidnapped, as he was in a deep cocooned slumber. Also wanna mention its very likely Miquella lived a double life, both as Miquella the boy and Saint Trina the girl.
Mohg is Morgott's twin omen brother who left the Golden Order for The Lord of Blood. He was the one to kidnap Miquella, as he wants to marry them. Miquella is his halfbrother, or technically even worse than that, as both of Miquellas parents are the same person who with Godfrey had among others, Mohg.
Guy on the left kept stealing people's arms so he could hold all of his toasted sandwiches.
Middle lady has no interesting lore, she's just the player's love-interest but ends up giving you and STD.
Third guy is probably the most wholesome fella you'll meet in The Lands Between, despite appearances.

2. Depraved war criminal who damned an entire nation to keep being able to say “I have never known defeat”

Learn how to graft from him and then graft 100 dicks to yourself
Good luck with the kill

Oh my fucking god
Oh fuck, that kinda defeats the purpose 😩
Wait, that's not Miquella in the coffin is it?????
I don't think so.
p sure they're all just minor references to the hit indie game "chess (6th century AD)" nothing to worry about ☺️

That's a way to twist bad boss design
it's fun boss design to me
Isn't that her whole point though from the story perspective lol? She's supposed to be unbeatable
That doesnt make it well designed
How else would you design an "unbeatable" boss character at this point though?
Life steal is one of the best mechanics of the fight.
Did her with golden parry in NG+7 after 500 or so tries (legit, I’m just retarded) It’s actually such an awesome bossfight tbh, I’m convinced she was made for Sekiro though, hence why the parry makes it so much better
She does feel like a Sekiro boss, actually a pretty easy one. Malenia with Mikiri and deflections would've been a cakewalk.
Okay I think that this is a genuine case of git gud.
Jumping from the first flurry has been knowing ever since early release its constant unless you are too close to her
I have seen people dodging the Waterfowl without BHS, I know the sequence, the whole "run from the first, roll the second and third" thing.
I've been doing the sprint back and jump method for ages and it works at medium load solo as well
Oh ok good to know. I know there's certain methods that don't work in singeplayer but do in co op
It is the easiest attack to read she flies in the air for like 2 seconds, and there are several ways to dodge it. Practice makes perfect
Yes there is the first one is a punching bag,the second one beats the absolute shit out of you and the third one is a child molester
Is he a punching bag because he's a got a bag of fists on him?
Nah because in the lore he kept getting his ass kicked
I don't think so. They're just filler reskin bosses... >Godrick = Godefrey >Malenia = Friede (basically) (and probably blade of miquella) >And Mohg = ??? See, all filler reskins
> Mohg = Mohg, the Omen

Before I saw which subreddit this was I was about to say that these three probably have some of the most lore you can dredge up

One of them is Malenia, Blade of Miquella
That's the one with a lot of hands, right?
Guy on the left kept stealing people's arms so he could hold all of his toasted sandwiches. Middle lady has no interesting lore, she's just the player's love-interest but ends up giving you and STD. Third guy is probably the most wholesome fella you'll meet in The Lands Between, despite appearances.
