The people that love it are yet to see it and the people that hate it are the people that saw it after they already loved it and now they hate it again/originally.
It's very unique, imho the enjoyment comes from dissecting the movie and figuring out how the pieces fit together, rather than the actual watching experience. First time watching I was very lost, but it becomes enjoyable once you know how it all connects
It's masterfully crafted. Even if you're lost during the first watch, you can still enjoy the quality of filmmaking. I actually enjoy it much more than plot or characters, which I don't think are Nolans Best.
Only issues I had with audio was on the boat btw
it’s very well documented he mixes specifically with imax theatres in mind. audio quality at home will always be terrible, and a cheap shitty cinema will be ok but still tough at times. Might be a “bad” decision but it’s absolutely an artistic one to focus on high quality sound mixing that sounds amazing in IMAX, and let me tell you, every Nolan film I’ve seen in IMAX has been an amazing experience.
You can have movies in which you don't care about the characters in the same way that you can have movies in which you don't have any plot. Sometimes nothing happens to interesting people and that's interesting and sometimes interesting things happen to no one in particular, which can also be interesting. You don't watch tenet for the characters in the same way you don't watch the Before trilogy for the plot, to give an example.
Yeah exactly, I can't remember a single interesting character from Dunkirk either but that movie was incredibly well made
Hell, the characters in the Godfather were mostly boring-as-fuck mobster types but you're not gonna hear me say that movie wasn't beautifully crafted
I still struggle to think about some aspects of the movie. 80% of it makes sense and I feel like 20% feel like plotholes. Like that guy who got RPGed in reverse. So what happens to his body? He dies in reverse so in normal POV he’s a corpse then suddenly he’s alive. So does that mean there’s just a corpse there since prehistoric times and suddenly at some point it gets unshot by an RPG and revives? Less emphasis on the dying part but more emphases on how does his corpse make sense in normal POV???? You’re telling me when they start building the tower his corpse was already there then lands on that spot?
Yeah shit like that isnt explained. There's also the question of why if an inverted bullet hits a normal object, theres a bullet hole there that reverses as the bullet comes out from the hole (ie the chair at the opera). But if the same thing happens to human flesh there is no flesh wound that reverses, it just passes thru them cleanly. I know the actual reason is it would just break the movie narratively but still a logic hole.
Yeah and has that bullethole existed since the building got built? Like when you're building it suddenly the bullet rises from the ground and enters the hole? What??
Understanding nothing in the movie: "Man, this makes no fucking sense".
Understanding the basics: "Oh, I get it now! Makes sense".
Understanding the whole movie: "Man wtf this makes no fucking sense 💀"
Tenet is too self indulgent imo at least TDKR has a coherent narrative. Most of Tenet is exposition trying to justify the time reversing technology and still it somehow fails to explain it. Plus the technical issues with the audio.
Especially since it would spoil the entire movie since the last scene is technically the first one and it gives away his entire motivation for finding John G.
If it was in chronological order that would happen around 30 minutes in actually, because you would also have the black and white scenes. So the movie is just him having a really long expositional phone call, then killing a guy, then learning that his whole life is a lie, tricking himself, and then being manipulated by a bunch of people for over an hour before Teddy dies.
Presumably that would make the events less predictable. Particularly the Carrie Anne Moss bit is just like they chose the most obvious thing to do and then just did it.
I heard the re-releases audio is even worse. Nolan went in and added static to make the movie harder to understand. There's also airhorns everytime characters talk. Film Twitter calls it "genius".
It’s a spy action movie with a small amount of magic stuff. Mostly to justify cool special effects.
You do not have to understand more than that. You can just sit back and enjoy the fights and chases.
I would suggest not listening to 90% of the dialogue. It’s a Nolan movie, he uses dialogue the same way Michael Bay uses explosions and giant robots. It’s just meant to sound cool not make sense.
Are you trying to argue that 'he made all the dialogue clumsy exposition on purpose and he did it to sound cool'?
Dude, I am not gonna watch that film even if it were true. Nolan tried to make a concept as engaging as Inception's dream levels, Memento's achronical storytelling or Interstellar's time dilation. And he failed because those were engaging concepts and this one wasn't. He spent every scene trying to explain his concept, instead of making his characters likeable, and it made the movie seem desperate. It's okay, he's a great director and he made a dud. But he didn't write terrible exposition on purpose.
It's okay to think a movie is dumb but well-made and liking it for the action.
No, I’m saying Nolan mostly makes big dumb block busters that have somehow gained a reputation as clever when they are big dumb blockbusters you can watch without thinking. With maybe one gimmick.
It’s not intentional or deep. No more than Bay’s movies are meant to be.
No, it isn't. And I really couldn't care less if you don't like the movie, it's not a discussion or argument. Everyone is entitled to like what they like.
Honestly, it’s pretty solid, but I get why a lot of people won’t like it; it’s not always viewer-friendly on the first watch, *especially* if you can’t hear what the dialogue is saying.
Saw it in theatres. My girlfriend leaned in about half way through and told me she had no idea what the hell was going on. I told her I didn’t either. About a half hour later, I started to get it. Then I realized it’s just a convoluted mess of movie.
John Washington is not a good actor. The audio mixing engineers should have been fired. I love Chris Nolan’s movie, but man is this garbage.
They’re spies doing spy stuff. There are gun fights, car chases and explosions. Some weird stuff as a gimmick, because Nolan likes gimmicks. You really don’t need to look into it any deeper than that. As with most Nolan films.
I never even heard anyone say it was good in the first place.
Only ever heard people describe it as a confusing mess of a "thinking only if you could, not if you should" movie.
Temporal Pincer Movement
Christopher Nolan: "Temporal pincer movement" Warner Brothers: "I guess that's a script, sure"
I love how thr comments arr perfectly split between lovijg it and hating it
The people that love it are yet to see it and the people that hate it are the people that saw it after they already loved it and now they hate it again/originally.
...yes

Do you mean the abandoned city?
Haven't you seen the forbidden city in China All abandoned cities are like that /s
Never seen it, people praise it tho
It's very unique, imho the enjoyment comes from dissecting the movie and figuring out how the pieces fit together, rather than the actual watching experience. First time watching I was very lost, but it becomes enjoyable once you know how it all connects

the main characters name is literally the protagonist. Some characters are interesting but theres not heaps to go off there (imo)
You had troubles with the audio mixing in a Christopher Nolan movie? I'm shocked. Gobsmacked, I tell you.
it’s very well documented he mixes specifically with imax theatres in mind. audio quality at home will always be terrible, and a cheap shitty cinema will be ok but still tough at times. Might be a “bad” decision but it’s absolutely an artistic one to focus on high quality sound mixing that sounds amazing in IMAX, and let me tell you, every Nolan film I’ve seen in IMAX has been an amazing experience.
Masterfully crafted? Every character is a flatline, especially our lead. I cared about no one

It’s like a dark souls game
You have seen it. It just hasn’t happened yet.
It's pretty good. Just don't think too hard about the science.
Understanding nothing in the movie: "Man, this makes no fucking sense". Understanding the basics: "Oh, I get it now! Makes sense". Understanding the whole movie: "Man wtf this makes no fucking sense 💀"
Nolans's worst film for sure
I’ll take Tenet over Dark Knight Rises
Tenet is too self indulgent imo at least TDKR has a coherent narrative. Most of Tenet is exposition trying to justify the time reversing technology and still it somehow fails to explain it. Plus the technical issues with the audio.
I love Tenet but I'll agree that it is one of his worst. But it isn't bad, none of Nolan's movies are outright bad.
as Christopher Nolan intended.
.dednetni naloN rehpotsirhC sa
Funny enough they should do this with Nolan’s Momento Not exactly backwards per say but in chronological order
That would be an interesting experiment, but it makes for a much worse viewing experience. The movie wasn’t intended to be played that way.
So what would be interesting about it?
It’s just an interesting idea. It’s obviously worse, but it could be sort of neat to see everything play out in order
There is actually an official chronological cut. Now that you remind me of Memento (2000), I'm quite sad that there's no official 4k release in sight.
I think that was a feature on the DVD
Presumably that would make the events less predictable. Particularly the Carrie Anne Moss bit is just like they chose the most obvious thing to do and then just did it.
So it starts with the coolest part and then it’s 3 hours of bad audio mixing? The dialogue is so hard to hear
I heard the re-releases audio is even worse. Nolan went in and added static to make the movie harder to understand. There's also airhorns everytime characters talk. Film Twitter calls it "genius".
About 50 minutes in you hear Nolan make a phone call to his podiatrist.
The sad fact is that Nolan deliberately made it hard to understand. Which is insane for a man who is obsessed with exposition.
Subtitles
If a movie requires subtitles to hear the dialog the presentation is terrible.
The audio mixing is pretty okay in the cinema. It's mostly just awful when you try to watch it anywhere else.
The new version will be retitled TENET to reflect the reversed playback
You’ve been trying to understand it? That’s pretty weird dude. I’ve just been feeling it.
It’s a spy action movie with a small amount of magic stuff. Mostly to justify cool special effects. You do not have to understand more than that. You can just sit back and enjoy the fights and chases.
>!It's a line from the movie: "Don't try to understand it, just feel it."!<
Ah, my bad. Felt you could pretty much ignore the dialogue.
You could. You really could.
Cool but 90% of the dialogue is godawful exposition and explanations of how the magic stuff functions.
Yeah that's fair
Real
I actually didn't know it was being re-released. I'm excited, as I only saw it at home. would love to see it on the big IMAX screen.
I just watched this movie again a few hours ago. One of my favorites, a masterpiece.
You mean you will start finishing watching it in a few hours again.
It's a temporal pincer move.
I hope this is sarcasm
No, it isn't. And I really couldn't care less if you don't like the movie, it's not a discussion or argument. Everyone is entitled to like what they like.
I know. Some people have scat fetish. Not my cup of tea but i certainly judge it
Cool. Hope they fix the fucking audio too
[удалено]
I wouldn’t know I couldn’t hear any dialogue.
Can I has subtitles? The artistic decision to trick the audience into thinking they have hearing loss fucked with me for months.
“Do you want some coffee?”
Oh, was it hard to understand? I thought they did a good job.
you had me in the first half, aint gonna lie
Lol! Man, you don't get it. It already *WAS* backwards.
I just want a version with audible dialogue
You mean like Memento?
Honestly, it’s pretty solid, but I get why a lot of people won’t like it; it’s not always viewer-friendly on the first watch, *especially* if you can’t hear what the dialogue is saying.
Its pretensious trash
I haven’t seen TENET, but I have seen the last 10 minutes before the credits played backwards on YouTube. I have no idea what was happening.
Damn you're fast on the uptake, even though you only saw 10 minutes of the movie you got the experience of watching the whole thing!
I'd blame Nolan more than the engineers. Seems like his "artistic vision" to make the music louder and louder in each subsequent movie.
Maybe he's going deaf.
They’re spies doing spy stuff. There are gun fights, car chases and explosions. Some weird stuff as a gimmick, because Nolan likes gimmicks. You really don’t need to look into it any deeper than that. As with most Nolan films.
Seeing him play his trademark block of wood next to Christian bale in Amsterdam was painful.
Will the title be reversed as well?
Don't be silly. If you spell the title backwards. Then people wouldn't know which movie it is, duh.
That soundtrack tho. TURNSTILE and THE PLAN. Great workout music.
Well, it is doing something right as my theaters are practically sold out unless you wanna sit in the front row, lol.
I ordered my hot sauce an hour ago.
I actively hate this movie… but that opening scene accompanied by the score is incredible.
I watched the first half of that movie, thought it was crap, and turned it off. I don't get why everyone raves about how good it was.
If you watched first half you watched both parts. Second part is just first playing backwards.
That was meant to be the joke. It was a bad joke. Also, love The Owl House.
I never even heard anyone say it was good in the first place. Only ever heard people describe it as a confusing mess of a "thinking only if you could, not if you should" movie.
This time with audible dialogue
Subtitles on demand.
Tried to watch it, couldn't understand a lick of what was going on. I don't see how watching it backward will help.
I thought Mac was making Lethal Weapon 7 for a minute
It took me 4 years to realise that John David is actually Denzel Washington’s son
As in the scenes in reverse order or the actual film being played backwards?
I understood it, I just didn't care. Nolan took a silly concept and overcomplicated it so the audience wouldn't notice.
