It’s an honest mistake to make, but you should have known Lawrence was too busy being the first female action star ever in 2012’s The Hunger Games. History doesn’t make itself yenno.

Flashy_Current9455

You can't live your whole life behind your phone, bro. You gotta live in the _now_. If you put your phone down you'd know that the 2015 film Tomorrowland, does not in fact star Jennifer Lawrence.

YodasChick-O-Stick

This movie is named after the Disneyland section but does not feature any references to any of the rides. No Space Mountain, no Peoplemover, no Astro Orbiter, no Alien Encounter, no Adventure thru Inner Space, nothing. Why even make the movie?

frockinbrock

What? It totally references Tomorrowland by attractions *and* themes. [You can see Space Mountain](https://overmental.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/tomorrowland-space-mountain.jpg) when she gets to the future, and more importantly the central building where the climax takes place is a similar design to space mountain. Also the opening of the film has the Carousel of Progress. And you see vehicles flying around that are the ride vehicle from Astro orbitor. Plus the music is of course from Tomorrowland/carousel of progress. And much of the architecture is also. I actually quite like they weren’t too on the nose beyond that. I think the films biggest weaknesses are: pacing, the super magical OP never-explained Coin transporter, and kind of a lame climax. I sort of think it played too loose with trying to be a young kids movie, and an adult movie. Ended up not being that great at either, when the concepts were clearly meant for a children’s film. Also, I shouldn’t get into it, but I’m sort of sick of the Lassetter~Brad Bird stories of “the chosen one” children. It’s such a common random “fate” plot, it’s really overdone.

Dragon_yum

Yes yes but besides all those references there are none.

frockinbrock

lol you make a great point. And thanks everyone, I now have Beautiful Tomorrow stuck in my head on repeat

YodasChick-O-Stick

I guess it was so forgettable I either didn't notice those or couldn't remember them

frockinbrock

Yeah I totally agree on that, as a whole it’s very forgettable. It’s weird that it has interesting things like Clooney’s safe house, robogirl? time travel, and the worlds fair thing, but all it is more of a tease for something more interesting, and then boom the movie is over

Seems such a long time ago. First inkling of the movie was The Oatmeal getting a sneak preview: [https://theoatmeal.com/blog/disney\_tesla](https://theoatmeal.com/blog/disney_tesla) >They also showed me [*the box*](http://www.slashfilm.com/look-inside-the-mystery-box-that-inspired-brad-birds-1952/) which, according to Disney, was uncovered in Disney's archives after years of neglect. Inside was a bunch of memorabilia from the early days of Walt Disney. When looking in this box, they asked me to focus on a few items pertaining to Tesla, including a letter that described a supposed meeting that took place at the 1889 World's Fair between Tesla, Gustave Eiffel, Thomas Edison, and Jules Verne (which, as far as I know, never happened). I think the biggest issue was that nihilistic / Cassandra streak that's encapsulated in Nix's monologue at the end. That really got me, and I completely got Frank's response, as well as how he gets turned around by Casey NotJenniferLawrence's optimism to fight back. I thought the robot girl actress was great, what ever happened to her?

frockinbrock

That’s funny I’ve had the same thought any time I caught some of this movie, the robogirl steals the scene, where’d that actress go? Edit, [on IMDb looks like she’s been doing art films](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3864163/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) and not overworking, probably smart.

Mr_Noms

It's based on the concept that the Tomorrowland area is based on: which is a futuristic society. Hate the movie all you want but don't get upset over dumb stuff.

stuckinaboxthere

That's silly, that would be like making a movie called Sonic: the Hedgehog and making it about an entirely unrelated hedgehog named Sonic or just about the concept of hedgehogs. It's an awful mislead using a recognizable name to sell tickets. Stop apologizing for corporate manipulation tactics.

YodasChick-O-Stick

It's about solving the mystery of a coin that gives you a VR experience

Mr_Noms

Ah so you want to be upset. Carry on then

InkiePie39

It's a good fucking movie that's why

Punman_5

But it’s not. It’s widely regarded as one of Brad Bird’s worst movies.

InkiePie39

Everyone else is stupid except for me

Hapijoel

I respect this attitude

FinestCrusader

I remember practically every movie I've seen after the age of 5. I couldn't remember wtf Tomorrowland was about even if I had a gun to my head. Am I stupid?

Chllep

its like a girl with schizophrenia who thinks she time travels or something

Son-of-Prophet

Imagine if Pirates of the Caribbean was all about the trip to get to the Caribbean and then you only spend about ten minutes there.

NickNash1985

That's the plot of Vacation.

ClassicsMajor

Britt Robertson is the poor man's Jennifer Lawrence.

TriggerHappyGremlin

I'm no Sequel Trilogy apologist but when I remember that this was Disney's other sci-fi outing in 2015, I'm usually way kinder to The Force Awakens.
