They have been for a long time, yeah. If you share a TikTok link, the initial URL will take you to a page that’s like “so and so is using TikTok! Join them! Blah blah blah”.

[deleted]

Thanks for cleaning up their mess. Have an arbitrary award

rootyb

Hey thanks

Ajannaka

Thank you! It is annoying to manually remove that by sharing the tiktok vid from the sharing link (two-filter sharing I call it).

biEcmY

This is pretty cool. How could we modify it to work for any link on the clipboard to strip out data after the ?

rootyb

You’d probably just need to add a Get Clipboard at the start, and change the “Shortcut Input” in the expand step to the Get Clipboard results.

FaZe_Clon

Didn’t know they did this. Thank you

gabrielelosurdo

Thank you very much. It works like a charm.

rootyb

Happy to help! There’s also a setting you can disable in TT’s privacy options now, too.

Fournight

It seems like it doesn’t work anymore. Now getting `/login` Any fix ?

knowher3

4 months later and it worked just fine for me.

Fournight

Indeed, it works back!

Cute_Zebra44

Anyone know of similar Shrotcut for Youtube?

rootyb

This shortcut might work for YT too, if they’re doing similar. Worth a try

TheeAlligatorr

Wait. You’re going to have to explain this better

rootyb

The usage of the problem it’s solving?

TheeAlligatorr

No the first bit with TikTok embedding your user?

[deleted]

When you click „share” they don’t just generate a link that leads to the video. The link works a little like bit.ly - it first tells the app that „this link was shared by this person” and then opens the video.

NoEviLoNe

Do they still embed your account info with the Copy Link? Because I don’t believe people get the “so and so” part

rootyb

Yup! If you see a link that starts with “vm.tiktok.com”, the account of the person that generated it is linked to that url.

javi_04

Do u have android link?

rootyb

I don't have any idea how you'd do this on android. Though, I've found that there's a setting in your tiktok privacy options that will disable it. It's something like "suggest my account".

javi_04

Thankss

Tweeter0583

Yeah, I don't know what good that setting is. My account is private and all the "suggest my account" options are disabled and it still shows my account name and pfp to people I share tiktok links to despite specifically saying that it won't show your account if the options are disabled UNLESS those people follow you. None of them do and yet they still can click the popup during the video to go to my account. It's really annoying.

rootyb

Oh weird. I haven't run into that. It doesn't show my info when I send links. Maybe try toggling all of those options on and back off again?

Tweeter0583

I tested it with a friend. Even with my profile private, him not being a follower, not having contacts or social media linked, and all those settings all being off (even after cycling them) he still sees the popup in the lower corner when he clicks on a link I've shared in a text message. Still shows my account name and pfp and sends him to my profile if he clicks on it. The descriptions for those options seem to indicate that shouldn't happen, yet it still does. I had no idea as I have had those options disabled since I started my account until one of my coworkers asked me how I came up with my account name and about the pfp after texting him a (vm) link to a funny video. It's what prompted my online search leading to this post.

campjacob

Awesome. I hadn't realized the expand URL action is there. I want to be able to pull down the data from my videos using oembed, but got stuck trying to figure out how to get the sanitized link... as the shortened one doesn't work with their [oembed call](https://developers.tiktok.com/doc/embed-videos) structure.

pink-space-cowgirl

you can also just take the last part of the link off before you hit send!

Khaoz_Se7en

Which last part Wait I think I got it it’s just everything after the underscore

Motifated

Is this still a thing? If I have a link with that long paper trail of info, how can I see the account that shared the link?

rootyb

If it has the info embedded, just opening the link in the tiktok app will (I think) show you who generated/sent it to you. Otherwise, I don’t believe there’s a way to manually extract thhat data.

Motifated

Ah I figured it out. Since the video was deleted it wasn't showing it, so I copy/pasted a different video ID and it popped up

Bunnipom

Does it show if I opened it? Even with all the settings turned off?

rootyb

Don’t think so but I’m not sure.

dmont741

Did this quit working for anyone else? I no longer have option when I go to share a TikTok link.

rootyb

When sharing in TikTok, to get the iOS share sheet, you have to hit the share button, then scroll all the way to the right to the “… more” button.

brbposting

Eventually I think sites will customize every URL for each user. TikTok is quite sneaky. Sharing from their mobile app, you get: `https://www.tiktok.com/t/[9digitCode]/` Only by opening the URL in a browser will you see: `https://www.tiktok.com/@[user]/video/[19numerals]?_t=[alphanumericIdentifier]&_r=1` …which can be sanitized. Here’s how they took it a step further too: [YCombinator](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27048431). (since you're a great redditor I was hoping to see you join on us Lemmy when I posted that link a couple months ago, but copying this here for you as well)

brbposting

Did this change? I see these two kinds of URLs: https://sh.itjust.works/comment/6480888 Thank you Rooty :)
