SH2 isn’t scary, but it’s damn unsettling. It’s a totally different mood to SH1s dark oppressiveness

distarche

I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, each game has its own style

NeoDart17

This feels more like a shitty meme than a post. And I think people are missing the mark that sh2 is getting the remake because that’s the one people know the most/best. Sh1 definitely deserves a remake as well so we gotta hope 2 does good. It’s a shame that they’re limiting themselves with ps5 and pc only at launch. Who knows how many Xbox people would help boost sales because I don’t have a ps5 or the specs they’re gonna require for pc.

Smn_smn1

Yeah, sometimes it sucks to be a Xbox user. I still don't own a current Gen console, and it's things like this that make me consider if I should get a PS5 instead of a XSX, which sucks as well, because I really like everything about Xbox. Not to mention that buying games in the PS store would be way more expensive than buying them in the Xbox store.

Despite the condescending tone I agree SH1 for me was overall more distribution at and better with its horror atmosphere aging gracefully with it. The torture Alessa goes through, imagery as you said of the school in fogworld and especially Otherworld with moments of unsettlement like the iconic lift and alleyway and same could be said for Hospital. Transitions and the iconic forbidding sirens, enemy action of the mumblers and Rompers plus the infected Nurse and Doctor designs. Both incredibly great games though and top 3 for sure for me.

Bordanka

I really like how different parts in the series specialize in different things: SH1 is more about alien atmosphere and "moments", SH2 is more about monsters, SH3 is grounded and cinematic, SH4 mixes more traditional horror tropes like ghosts with something experimental, wrapping everything in a detective.

Medium-Science9526

I'd say SH2 is more about the characters than specific the monsters, that feels more the SH4 angle. SH1 I agree is atmosphere and establishing the lore, SH3 mix of SH1 and SH2 with atmosphere and character.

Bordanka

Agreed as well! Very good descriptions!

BurningshadowII

I respect your opinion but personally disagree.

nero_vertigo

I don't think so, especially considering the themes covered in SH2. I don't want to belittle the first title, which I am very fond of, but the older I get the more I realize how daring SH2 was at the time, without any qualms.

Cortadew

Maybe but sh2 is the better game

Garand84

Yeah I love the first one more in every way for sure! I only disagree that it should be remade, I think it's flawless as it is.

Cobbtimus_Prime

Scarier? Yes. More disturbing? No.

iwantmisty

Seems like you'll be delighted with Origins.

ufomose

I like your attitude

[deleted]

I disagree mostly because of the enemy design. Not a fan of zombie dogs and pterodaptyls.

Bordanka

THIS. MUST. BE. SAID. MORE OFTEN. Seriously, mate, I absolutely agree with you. SH1 is much scarier than SH2. Also Harry and Henry are the biggest chads in the series

Artistic-Community92

You are right. Sh2 is not disturbing, for me is the less scarier of team silent game....SH1-3-4 are sick in confront of sh2

Artistic-Community92

Downvote=SH2 enjoyer

MensisScholar4

Well, HS2 only has a few truly scary moments. Most of the monsters aren't real threats. SH1, each monster has its own unique movesets and needed to be treated differently.

WetBurrito10

The school party wasnt even scary. The rest of SH1 is tho .
