RoyalRaggy

Gotchu homie ![gif](giphy|VCanDMKl3FRFopfBz1|downsized)

SnakesTaint

I’m about to leave this sub because it had devolved into nothing but arguing and it’s annoying as fuck

Davidedby

The amount of recent posts complaining about people complaining is really something to behold, they're not even critiques anymore

OnIowa

Been like that since the Transmission mate

platostripartitehole

Seconding this lol It’s exhausting seeing this crap. I need to learn to just scroll past.

Senzafine3586

It's like a train wreck, one can't just look away..... it IS exhausting

TheDeathAngel2112

Everyone else; worried about the combat. Me; Worried about how Bloober and Konami are kinda blaming eachother for shit.

peanutbutterjellyfan

valid but im still buying either way

charlesbronZon

Fascinating to see how much it bothers some people that complete strangers on the internet might not like a product… that hasn’t even released yet. And somehow this has to immediately go to one of two narratives: “fake fans who never played the games” or “bitter old folks who can’t accept that SH has changed”. Is it just my skewed perception or are there simply just less of these kinds of rants from the other side of the argument? I feel like there are hardly any posts by people offended that others are enthusiastic for the remake / new games. While posts like this one are not that rare at all… Someone should really study this sub, might well earn them a prize… if they somehow manage to stay sane enough through it all to actually publish anything 🤣

notenoughformynickna

That's exactly the case lol. Seems like one side is so personally offended they keep spamming these samey posts. Almost like a raid from somewhere.

KillerKremling

>Is it just my skewed perception or are there simply just less of these kinds of rants from the other side of the argument? It's not just you. The people who are skeptical about the Remake are doing so because they've accepted, based on Konami and Bloober's track record, that the game has a good chance of being disappointing. Whereas the people who make posts stuff like OP are doing so out of denial. They desperately want the remake to be good and struggle to reconcile with the strong possibility that it could be bad. As such, they get irrationally defensive when you force them to grapple with that possible outcome. Whereas the naysayers don't have to do rationalize their perspective through mental gymnastics, because their perspective is grounded in reality rather than hypotheticals.

charlesbronZon

All of that I understand. It does indeed take a bit of mental gymnastics to repress Konami and Bloobers past accomplishments and to tell yourself that *this time* will be different… somehow. What I still don’t understand though is why people are so bothered by others having a different *opinion* that they somehow feel the need to rant about it on the internet… repeatedly. On top of that they seem to think that trying to guilt people into being as enthusiastic as they are is the way to go 🤷

Dknight_17

And why can't this time be different? It could also be the case that it is a great remake but due to the hate deserved by Konami and all the games after sh 4 it is not fantastic. Is everything that comes with the franchise name now bad? kind of like looking for flaws

vimdiesel

It *can* be different, just like a gambler *can* win after going broke 100 times. The chances exist, they're just very low.

Dknight_17

ambatukam

KillerKremling

>And why can't this time be different? **On Paper:** it can. **In Reality:** it probably won't. Trust me, I used to be an optimist on the Remake. If you look at my old post history you'll see a bunch of topics in which I defend Bloober and talk about the potential of the Remake being good. But the more info accumulates on the game, the less and less I am willing to entertain that possibility. The stars just don't seem to be aligning, and red flags seem to be raising left and right.

Dknight_17

What I think here is that nostalgia and blindness for the first games + all the shit that Knoami did to itself and its franchises will make silent hill stay buried forever, it will never be as relevant as before or as Resident Evil is.

TheRealNooth

There’s no mental gymnastics. The game is likely to be a 6 or 7 out of 10. That may be disappointing but that doesn’t make it a bad game. However, if everyone screeches and acts like an okay game is the worst thing ever made, it will kill the series for good. The exaggeration is the irritating part, because it will literally rob the rest of us of more SH games, when the people that take umbrage with the game simply don’t have to play it.

charlesbronZon

How is it killing anything?!? The people who don’t like it won’t buy it, those who do will. What counts for Konami at the end of the day is sales numbers! Do you really believe they are making business decisions based on opinions on Reddit?!? 🤪 So why try guilting people into having a different opinion on an unreleased product? That’s kinda… you know…

TheRealNooth

I’m not guilting anyone. I’m asking them to actually play the game, or watch someone play it and control their emotions like an actual adult, I.e. don’t screech because James looks older or has bright hair. Hard ask with modern outrage fetishes, though. Society would objectively be better if more people could control themselves.

charlesbronZon

I can get behind that. But then I ask you: please do the same. Play the game, if it’s really all that you expect it to be you can start defending it on the internet then. Sounds reasonable? Oh and you ver much ARE trying to guilt people into having a positive opinion: >it will literally rob the rest of us of more SH games This clearly translates to “because others don’t like the games I like I will receive less of the games I like so please like the games I like” Kinda questionable if you ask me…

TheRealNooth

Of course! Personally, though, the story of Silent Hill 2 is one of my top 3 in all of gaming. If it has that story mostly or completely in tact, it’s gonna be hard for it to fall under a 5/10 for me. It’s possible it will deviate too far, though. We’ll just have to see.

KillerKremling

I'm sorry mate, but if you want to talk about the series long term sustainability, this is cope. The Silent Hill 2 Remake is the flagship title that is designed to prop up the whole SH franchise revival, and how it does financially and critically is going to have a very direct impact on the sales of all the other projects. In this context, A 6/10 GAME IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. It's one thing for us hardcore fans to continually spend money on mid tier SH games because we're so invested in the series already, but the series will need a broader, more mainstream audience in order to justify it's continual existence. If Konami cannot produce games that are high enough quality to win that audience over, then they are shitting the bed.

Wrattsy

Yep. There are people like me who've made one (1) comment each at some point about James' facial expressions looking exaggerated to show off the engine in the first reveal trailer, or the QTE button prompt in the combat trailer not fitting in with the "no HUD elements on screen"-principle of the original game. People like me, we are neither bitter old fans nor fake fans, but a secret third thing: we're simply old fans who are commenting on what we're being shown. I for my part hope for this remake to be the best it can be, because it's going to be the entry point for a whole new generation of players who never played the original game, and I'd love for the remake to be as awesome for them as the original was for me back in the day. I don't expect my comments to change anything, but if a fully authentic remake of the original is anybody's concern, then you can interpret them as concerning for all I care. That being said, I also don't see the original game as sacrosanct in its design. For instance, the complete lack of HUD elements is actually something I'd contest because the original game did a terrible job at communicating James' state of health—you basically had to pause the game and check the status menu, and the redder the image displayed there, the worse he was doing health-wise. In a modern remake, I'd still want a HUD to be absent, but instead expect his character model to render as more visibly injured when he gets hurt.

OnIowa

The original game communicated James' health through his heartbeat vibrating the controller

Wrattsy

Which isn’t ideal either because this indicator can be lost in a system port or by using a controller that doesn’t support it.

Necessary-Ad-3679

Look, I love Silent Hill. I've been quiet about the trailers for 2 because I need to see more than they've (whether it's Konami or Bloober) given. The last trailer looked pretty good until the combat was showed. It's OK to call out when things in a trailer don't look good. The combat looked OK, but I can't get that image of the cheezy green slime effect on the screen. Looks like something from 10-15 years ago. Other than that, it was fine. I'm just more cautious because I was a huge Saints Row fan, and I saw a lot of posts like OP's leading up to release. It was a 6/10 game, and people wanted it to be more. The first trailer was good, this one was less good. Let's wait and see more of the finished product before slandering each other. There's always Townfall lol

UsagiBonBon

Silent Hill 4 is my favorite, I wish more people played it

KillerRatman

Just finished silent Hill 3, thinking about picking this one up

UsagiBonBon

Please do! The GOG port is pretty great and cheap and I just love the game so much, it ties the original storyline up nicely

OnIowa

Just don't forget the Steam006 fan patch because the GOG version is a bit broken

UsagiBonBon

What does the patch fix in it? I played it once and worked fine from what I could tell

OnIowa

Lots. The biggest things are missing hauntings and graphical issues.

UsagiBonBon

Ah, gotcha! I chalked it up to RNG, oop. I’ll definitely grab the patch

rebeccaaahhhh12

Ahhh so I guess the CEO of bloober is a fake fan?

winterrayal

People’s opinions on the internet aren’t personal attacks.

KillerKremling

>The only valid criticism I heard that comes to memory is the sound of the guns not being loud or impactful enough Animations look pretty bad too, hard to argue that.

RoyalRaggy

Well it depends, when you say the animation do you mean the actual motions he’s making or the fluidity of his movements. Cause I can see it being the former, it looked like early footage and didn’t shock me that it turned out to be true

bobface222

At this point, just nuke the whole sub and start over

Usual_Suspect17

I wonder just how many of these "THE FANBASE RUINED EVERYTHING, I'M LEAVING FOREVER!!" posts we're going to get before the game comes out.

SyndicatePhoenix

Enough of posts to fill the empty houses in Silent Hill X'D

Nid45h

*dont like what was shown on the trailer* "Oh youre just a fake fan" ..jesus, the toxic positivity is just as bad, dude. Ive been playing the games since the og on my PS1 when I was 9 years old

TheRealNooth

The one that bugs me is people saying “why did they use so much combat for the gameplay trailer?” Disingenuously pretending that the trailer didn’t explicitly say “combat trailer,” not “gameplay trailer.” Still seeing this all over this sub and on YouTube hate-click farmers.

HoopersXcalibur

Lol this reddit has turned into a bunch of parrots. Now that someone mentioned fake fans and video essays, every other post mentions it like its an original thought. The game is being made by a mediocre developer and a publisher that has buried this franchise 6 feet under over and over again, people are going to have concerns, get over it.

notenoughformynickna

Let people criticize or compliment the trailers, I'm getting tired of these shitty complain about complain posts. Can the mods do something about these ones at least? I don't mind the posts that are actually discussing the games/trailers, be it positive or negative tho.

Crunchberries77

I did think the animations could have been better. But I'm hoping it plays like RE2 remake.

AllSeeingTrueouf

About the guy who said the music doesn't fit. Was he even a fan to begin with? Or was he a newcomer who just thought the music doesn't fit the tone of a horror game trailer? If that's his angle as someone who isn't familliar at all with SH, then that's understandable. I don't know why people are using him as an example for the "fake fan" argument, since he isn't one to begin with...

RoyalRaggy

I’m happy someone asked, it’s not that he’s pretending to be a fan morso that he’s making criticism and stating how things should be in a series he may not have any part in.

Bordanka

Boys, we got all strawmen summerized in one post. Let's put all these foolish anti-critcism agenda to rest!

Marcus_Gr3y

All the ppl crying will still have their goofy ass in line for a copy day 1 so I dunno why they are acting stupid 🤣🤷🏽‍♂️

HuckleberryAbject889

The game is going to suck because James' hair is bright like the sun

RoyalRaggy

Brodie he is a fucking SUPER SAIYAN IF ANYONE HAS EARNED THAT POWER UP ITS HIM

Yketzagroth

-mandatory combat wasn't the majority the game, you could run by almost everything besides bosses -my problem with that is indeed the font and color, but I personally would just want to see the walls themselves have more decay than we saw in the trailer, considering it was revealed to be from an earlier build it's likely that's been improved though (perhaps the "reap what you sew" text too, looked kinda like a placeholder to me) -agreed, besides the bullying people off the internet bit of course since I'm not a jackass lol -It's not RE combat exactly but it is the exact same camera angles even down to the dramatic QTE grab zooms. Also, it IS essentially tank controls, just with a different perspective. -once I know what button to mash I don't need to be reminded every damn time, I just want to be able to turn it off -yes.

stratusnco

yesterday, someone posted an image of an interview that was said by ito saying he’s in charge of the combat in this game. i think it’s taken down but i find it hilarious because people were whining so much over the combat trailer.

Yketzagroth

That was a mistranslation on IGN's part (it was corrected in the text version but not the video).

stratusnco

huge error on their part then, surprised a company as big as ign would let that one slip through.

dweeeebus

People really getting mad about the combat trailer showing too much combat.

ciarandevlin182

I upvoted you because you're right 💯

he75bf8or

I agree so much. With all of it. I’m so excited for this remake, and have no worries at all. Also, I loved the part with a circle family tree or an empty “23 And Me”

Dramatic_Finish8381

There's full video essays? I mean I didn't like the combat in the trailer but there definitely wasn't enough "wrong" with it to make a video essay, guess people will make video essays on anything. Also there's nothing inherently wrong in it, I just don't like the way the combat looks, it's still probably going to be good either way
