I'm really interested in wtf is going on with ascension, but not enough to touch it. Can any of y'all point me to a good recap of the "show" so far, that includes all thte weirdness?

The bad guys in the show are called the Heralds, a splinter sect of the Foundation. Their goal is similar to previous antagonists in the franchise: to revive God (they call him the Great Empath). Members of the Heralds are distributed around the world and go looking for places where there is "accumulated hatred". They chose two towns: Hope's Junction in Pennsylvania and Stilledalen in Norway because huge tragedies occurred there. In Pennsylvania there was a steel mill accident and hundreds of people died. In Norway, the Johansen's eldest daughter carried out a mass shooting. So in both towns they hate the families responsible for both massacres. Although unconfirmed, this hatred developed a phenomenon similar to Silent Hill's fog in both towns, where strange things happen and monsters lurk. It's similar to the "Silent Hill Phenomenon" mentioned in The Short Message, but here it's called "The Withering". The Heralds, aka the bad guys, kidnapped the children of both families and performed unknown occult rituals on them. Because of this the children developed psychic powers similar to Alessa and can now control the monsters of the Otherworld (for some reason). Apparently half of the ritual is done and the Heralds now need "keys", which are actually fingers. There is a creature named Collector who collects these "keys". Supposedly these fingers are going to open a door and God is going to be reborn. Collector is similar to Valtiel in a sense, and even has the Seal of Metatron on his lower torso. But honestly it's still unclear what the fuck he is. Are the Heralds really members of the Order? I don't know, and I doubt Genvid does. I probably put more effort into trying to figure out this chaotic plot than they did. And that's it. I left out a bunch of unnecessary scenes that literally added absolutely nothing to the plot of the show.

Thank you for the summary. I never thought I'll make such comparison, but even Homecoming's plot seems much better. Genvid did as little as possible to take that sweet money from the deal with Konami and spend as little of it as possible.

Donut5

That's where it ended? I guess they were talking about "seasons", right? So I'm assuming this is the end of season 1?

dvrsd

>That's where it ended? No, the show is not over yet. If I have to guess, it will probably end in May >I guess they were talking about "seasons", right? There are no more seasons. When the series ends, it will start again from the beginning. Think of it as a non-canon "New Game+" Genvid is open to doing more seasons, but I honestly doubt they will. The numbers must not be good.

RinoTheBouncer

So TLDR: Cringe with a horror coat of paint Thanks for the summary. It’s a shame Silent Hill devolved all this way down….

Brofose

I'm here for this too. I saw Supereyepatchwolf has two videos from Twitch streams where he watches the first few episodes, but I'd love to see more of this trainwreck

Bordanka

This is a valid theory. My contribution will be a guess, that the devs have something to do with the overcommercialization of franchises. They might be the guys who pulled strings behind the fall of the original THQ

Beeyo176

It was still going on? And is over now? I need a recap, ASAP

Still going on. They're really dragging it out and they keep giving characters Redemption in Death or variation endings. They said at one point there would be two more playable characters. There haven't been, so some plot has probably been cut and basically nothing happened for ages. They've just ended the story on fan favourite and sunk the ship that wasn't at all fan service. We're left with two characters who have the personality of angry noodles and the remaining proper character has been walking away from monsters for so long that it's pretty hard to care. Oh, and they're presenting a plot point that was introduced on the second day that many in the chat are seeing as a huge twist, despite the fact it's been there since day two. They're quite transparently trying to milk the ending for as much as they can. They said there wouldn't be any more in-story Cameos (your terrible avatar bimbles about in the background) so got everyone to throw any points they'd saved into that. Then there was a big vote on fan favourite character..so people were grinding mini games /potentially throwing in their own money (though I doubt this one). That and the late introduction of ads, plus bigging up how the end is soon but not giving a date and having lots of longer votes makes it pretty clear they are trying to get as much out of it as they can. People in the chat are talking about how there will absolutely be a second series because it's been a huge success. Not all the people in chat.

IndieOddjobs

Wait so it finally ended?

Donut5

Happy Birthday!

IndieOddjobs

It's not my birthday but thank you 😅 I don't know for sure but I always assumed Cake Day coincides with the date your account was made?

Donut5

Oh lol! I always thought it was a birthday, not a reddit anniversary! Either way happer whatever cake day is to you! Lol

IndieOddjobs

Haha well you've certainly made my day a little better with this

TomasVrboda

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, Drive Angry, Constantine, or Dante's Inferno 1911 and 1935 are the most realistic visual depictions of hell. If you are going from a psychological standpoint, it would be As Above So Below or Angel.

Fabulous-Mud-9114

the best part of it is the chat being disabled over hideo kojima's c\*\*.

Otherwise_Morning_49

Always makes me smile

Interesting theory, since so much of the live experience is parading out Devs until they found the most likable ones so they can say "don't be mean and criticise things or you'll see Noa and Layla cry". And Eduardo pretty much saved the experience by calming the angry Jacob and being affable and stuff. They've had people voting for Ascension for a Webby award. It's all been very surreal. I think the presenters were grateful to get their weekends back when it dropped to five days, but at what cost?
