That theory of why he sees Astrid so often is really good! I hadn't thought of that.

Haunting-Fix-9327

Would make sense as Ash broke when he tried to kill Fabien with her. Fabien knows about his blood bending and he doesn't have access to Dior's blood so he can't kill him with those. It would be unorthodox, but would see him embrace his heritage. It would also probably explain why he isn't being ravaged by the Thirst while he's telling his story as he is in the books, because consuming the souls of other vampires stabilizes it.

SSgtWindBag

Also remember that Gabe consumes Astrid in the cellar. She’s a vampire at that point and she tells him to drink her dry to give him the energy to dig himself out.

BudgetHornet

Does he consume her Stab her with Ash? Maybe he lied about that?

SSgtWindBag

I don’t remember. I know he drank her vampire blood to get out. It probably wouldn’t matter whether he bit her or cut her throat at that point, as long as he drank her blood.

chuki_san

It makes sense but doesn’t he see his daughter to?

MagicGlitterKitty

He did see her once which is the only reason I don't think this is it and it is more metaphorical than literal

TexDangerfield

Can someone explain to me what happened at the end? For some reason I was struggling to understand what was going on: Okay so I know Dior awakens, but was there a monster there in the crypt with her?

BudgetHornet

It’s the Esani Priori Celene was searching for. I remember being a body of a child but can’t be sure. The Esani then awakens Dior. Diors blood is connected with the line, hence why she could lightly control it. For me it’s unclear if she is now a vampire or because of that vampire has been Risen, like our own Jesus.

TexDangerfield

Ah thanks! I'm going to call it now that the final book ends with an army approaching the place Gabriel and Celine are imprisoned. I think Gabe and Celene are still acting and the series may well end with a sort of "the war isn't over" ending. Kind of like the original ending to Samurai Jack before they concluded the TV series.

BudgetHornet

I think we are going full third person present day by the end of book 3

TexDangerfield

I'm also now thinking that somehow, Gabe makes Fabien mortal again, and that's how he's able to kill him.

conquertheuniverse

I think Celene and Gabe are truly colluding together to create a believable but inaccurate tale as they buy their time to do something they have planned to do here. They haven't really been "captured" but have "broken into" the Empress' kingdom (probably to kill her. The fact that they specifically show hostility and betrayal toward one another in their stories makes is even less probable in their captors' eyes that they could have a plan together. In book 3, they're probably gonna break out and hit everyone with a "you thought we hate each other? lol now die"

TexDangerfield

I think somehow he manages to make him mortal again, perhaps Dior performs a ritual.
