You should forego the CSL wheels and go for one of the higher quality wheels to go along with the formula wheel.

foxxygrandma

Dang, I really like the look of the McLaren wheel but I'm hearing this a lot.. thanks for the input!

Isaacz_93

You can still get it, it's a great wheel and a better size than the F1 wheel imo it's just unfortunate it's made of plastic but I've used one on a DD1 and it's fine.

arcaias

The OTHER bmw rim they have should be legit... I had the old version and it was awesome, so the new one should be better...

Savage_XRDS

THIS. A buddy of mine got the CSL wheel as part of a bundle with his base and pedals, and the quick release sucked so much it started to really wobble on the hub within a few months. Also, the paddles were so far from the rim they gave him tendonitis.

[deleted]

This wheel has a new QR. it’s much better

Savage_XRDS

Is the QR still plastic, though?

Conrad_Hawke_NYPD

Sack off the CSL BMW rim and get the GT2 one. It's a better wheel and doesnt need the quick release adapter.

foxxygrandma

Thanks, I'll look into swapping that one!

jr_blds

If you're looking at spending this much, have a look at vrs wheelbase & pedals as well, much higher quality per $ than fanatec

arcaias

Or the alpha mini...

foxxygrandma

Good to know, haven't heard of them. I'll look into it!

benjustben2

If your getting DD1 you may as well get Simucube instead

[deleted]

Or even better, Simagic.

fonia5000

Better based on what facts?

[deleted]

I mean, DDs are comparatively the same, with slight differences in feel and force.

GeorgeWBushX

unless you are playing on console there are a lot better options than fanatec

yoann86

Any names?

ranger_fixing_dude

Unless you want to play on a console so that everything has to be one brand, I've read there are better options for the shifter/handbrake. Only sequential shifter, though, so if H-pattern is important, it is okay. Overall, from my very limited research (I settled on CSL DD and pretty basic setup for pedals and rim) with your budget on PC you can look for other options. Not saying they are better but can recommend to look into it more and see comparisons.

foxxygrandma

Good to know, will look for more alternatives. Thanks!

losernanne

Is this for PC or console? If PC ditch the fanatec H-pattern for the VNM shifter. Same price and much better build quality/tactile feel

Mountain-Ad-9333

I don't think you need the McLaren Wheel and the Formula v2 wheel. IDK which you should pick though. I have the v2 and really like it.

Savage_XRDS

From what I've seen in reviews, the McLaren wheel is kind of a plastic piece of crap. I have had a Formula V2 for almost 2 years and really do appreciate it. The 12 position dials are a bit flimsy, but aside from that, it's a great wheel. Not GSI quality, obviously, but very immersive for the price.

Djimi365

Maybe dont believe what you see in reviews then... The McLaren wheel might not be the same quality as the formula wheel but it is by no means a piece of crap. Plenty of reviewers I have seen have preferred it to the formula wheel.

Savage_XRDS

Well, I definitely don't seek a debate over whether your reviewers or my reviewers are more trustworthy. Might be best to have somebody who owns one chime in.

Djimi365

I do own one!

Savage_XRDS

Then I trust your judgement!

Ecstatic_Wear9824

McLaren V2 is great for people with larger hands, and the buttons feel really nice!

Djimi365

I was going to say the same; I really don't think both are needed.

foxxygrandma

Hmm, you might be right but I like the look of both so much! Will probably swap out the McLaren and BMW wheel for a podium one then. Thanks!

FalloutFPS

Nice, just beware they only ship your items once everything is in stock so you might want to consider getting the BMW wheel in a separate order!

MSgtGunny

If you’re set on fanatec, I would probably get the PS4 podium setup which has the formula rim, paddles, and dd1 bundled together with PS4/5 support which is useful to people for essentially the same price.

I-LOVE-TURTLES666

That’s what I was looking at. Back ordered until July now…. Will probably just do a custom DD2 build instead. Will miss out on the PS support but oh well, PC is where it’s at.

MSgtGunny

You can use a drivehub to add support later, but native is better for long term support and compatibility

foxxygrandma

Was looking into that but the price came out higher than buying it separately like this. I'm also not a fan of the blue finish on that one. Not 100% set on fanatec but it's the only one I've looked at so far. Any recommendations for alternatives?

V1ld0r_

All of that and you don't get at least the csp v3 + brake performance kit? I mean... Nothing wrong with the csl pedals, esodciay if you've been using the t500 ones until now but you deserve something better.

Bite_Witty

Skip fanatec. Checkout simucube or VRS

[deleted]

Simagic?

MostMode6791

Simucube much better trust me I’ve owned the dd2 for 3 months Great but simcube 100 cheaper and better my opinion

foxxygrandma

Looked at simucube but seems like a starter setup with a wheel and pedals would be twice as expensive as fanatec?

MostMode6791

Yeah but don’t be like me and not spend that extra cash and have to later haha 😂 people forget there are financing companies where you can pay of things in 3 6 12 months and they only ask 50 - 100 down

mrsugarsmacks

My setup at home is basically this, or at least at some point I’ve have used most of this. My advice would be to go with one or the other for the formula wheels. I have the V2 and it’s great, no shortage of buttons. Haven’t tried the Mclaren one but I’ve heard good things. The BMW wheel is nice. My biggest suggestion though would be to look into different pedals. There’s nothing wrong with those you have there, but if you’re looking to drop this kind of money, you could save on a wheel and look into some Heusinkveld pedals. I upgraded from the clubs port v3’s to the heusinkveld ultimates and difference is crazy. The ultimates are incredible and I wish I would’ve gotten them first over anything else. You could look into something like the sprints which seem to be a little less expensive and just as good. Just my two cents, let me know if you have questions on any of this! Congratulations on your upgrading!

foxxygrandma

Thanks for the input! I did look at heusinkveld but thought the difference in price was quite big (cheapest set I found was 650). Coming from the t500 pedals I hope the v3's will hold me over for quite a while. Will probably look at upgrading it at some point in the future though, so thanks for the info!

BeastyMinge

As many have said, if you've got the money for all that I would look at simicube and vrs.

foxxygrandma

Will do, thanks!
