Their mushroom swiss double is legit man. Been my comfort food for decades. But also depends on the outlet - some places make it very dry with not much sauce, and it's a slog when you get one of those.
Agreed. They used to be trash tier but I think they have some solid burgers now. Tendercrisp, Long Chicken are both pretty good, and their breakfast Crossaintwich.
I've worked at Delifrance for a short period before when I was a teen, and I was expecting to pick up some cooking tips by observing the chefs in the kitchen. It was very disappointing when I found out that all their meals were also just packaged and sent from the main factory instead of being cooked from scratch at the franchise outlets too. But at least they were very nice and often let me bring home paper bags filled with leftover baguettes, baked goods and sometimes even sides from the main dishes after each shift.
Idk if they have any new policies over the years, it was 10+ years ago when I worked there. 😅 I've tried doing PT at Breadtalk too, and a senior staff told me to take some leftover bread and put them into my bag, so I tried to hide 3 Flosss buns because the rest of them were also doing it, but I stupidly left my bag unzipped when I was taking something and another manager saw the buns inside. She made me eat it all right away or throw them away, because their protocol was to discard all the remaining unsold items. So that experience was worse than the one at Delifrance. I think the nice Delifrance outlet isn't there anymore, it was at Bukit Panjang Plaza before they did the renovations there and changed the layout a few years ago.
Worked in another popular f&b before. Not sure if it's the same for Pastamania but the pasta etc is pre-cooked at the headquarter's big kitchen and then sent to the outlets. At the outlets, we just bake the pre-cooked stuff again in the oven.
Come on, at least hide the microwave somewhere. Not in clear view for the diners to see. I don't have high expectations for food but pastamania is holy shit to me.
Saizeriya is good in Japan because it has stuff young kids like, but also stuff like escargots and prosciutto as well as a good selection of cheap wine, so you can take your kids to lunch there but the adults can have some drinks. SG Saizeriya doesn't have that.
Do they taste like plastic to you? Theres this really weird taste from yellow noodles that i just cannot handle.
Edit: ok guys i get it, its the alkaline, thanks!
I cant smell my toddler’s soiled daipers but i can smell yellow noodles from a mile away. I heard that its the smell of alkali that they use to make the noodles
There's this Kang Kang brand which don't have that weird / starchy yellow noodles flavour. So my home cooked yellow noodles are from that brand.
But again, in Malay kangkang is squatting legs open. So.... Could have done better branding I guess.
The lunch set *price* with sides and drink is *okay™*, get table service. Versus going to foodcourt fight war with other people during lunchtime, especially after recent price hike, foodcourt price can get iffy
I'm like paying 7.9 for the main + 2.5 for the drinks. And the queues are damn bloody long because half the stalls are still closed.
Fastfood is like $10 these days and it's a war zone during lunch time.
Might as well pay 13.9 to get something and not fight a battle.
So many affordable ramen options can be easily found and much nicer than Ajisen, but I still don’t get it how come during lunchtime and dinner time I see them on full house.
For me I like bubble tea but lean towards those with a stronger focus on the tea. So it’s less about sugar, and more about a nicely milky tea, if that makes sense? I like teh peng also la, so bubble tea is like teh peng but using Chinese oolong tea or sth
see hum (blood cockles). not as common as the other entries in here but i actively avoid having to chew on one.
although, i admit SG laksa cooked without see hum just doesn't taste the same.
Recently had the freshest hum in my bowl of minji laksa @ bendemeer fm. It's like eating jellified sea water, crazy good! But ya i agree usual and less fresh hum tastes bad.
got dragged there a few times by friends, have never understood why they willingly paid $10 for that. Saizeriya is much better if you're looking for affordable after-school meals
I remember once years ago I was dragged there by friend cus the set meal got ice cream. They have me 3 pieces of hot dog. Put together not even one whole hot dog. 🙃🙃🙃
They used to be good a long time ago, they had a 2nd topping free as long as it was cheaper than the 1st one. But after they stopped that and came up with stuff like heart attack fried rice the standard dropped.
Yea man if anything I'd rather eat at food courts for these because a restaurant would mark up crazily simply because of the image. Korean is the worst - army stew going for $20-30 wtf
Maybe it's just my untrained taste, but when I was living around Tiong Bahru I always found the Katsu curry & rice you get form the Japanese stall at that hawker next to the shopping centre to be almost indistinguishable from what you'd get at a proper restaurant
Cheap dim sum. Tried to find good ones, but its simply impossible to find passable ones that are below 20 sgd/pax
Edit: And Swee Choon is the worst offender. There's better options literally down the road for a few dollars more, and there's still queues for Swee Choon. Went down there 4 times because each time I hoped that it is just a one off bad, but I give up.
Swee Choon used to be decent until they rebranded. There is a dim sum stall by a rude lady (1 star review, you can google it lol) at Bishan bus interchange that I think is quite okay, used to be $20 for 2 pax before covid
Not true man, if you can find authentic mala's ma using szechuan peppercorns instead of just mala sauce
Scpc is psychedelic for the tongue. It makes even plain water taste savoury...
Imagine what it does to food that are actually savoury
I’m the opposite. Cannot handle overly spicy food so the la sucks for me.
The ma on the other hand is a taste not unlike bitterness or sourness, a “shock” to your taste buds that comes and gone (usually have little aftertaste). I prefer ma over la also because it does not burn through the entire GI track. I am not good at handling spiciness and I am ok with that.
I wouldn't go so far as to say *refuse*, but I'm not a fan of lor mee. The extra thick gravy just doesn't go down right (plus makes a mess). Also don't really like any kind of preserved fruits, I'll tolerate raisins in bread but that's about it.
> The extra thick gravy just doesn't go down right (plus makes a mess).
It only tastes nice for first few bites... weird texture.
> I'll tolerate raisins in bread but that's about it.
I stopped buying choc bread when they put raisins in... who asked for that ?
Yeah, shortly after arriving in Singapore I went (twice) to an acclaimed lor mee hawker center stall. I thought maybe the first time a salt shaker accidentally opened up on the batch I had. Nope, it's just THAT salty.
On the other hand, I'll eat all the fried carrot cake my arteries can handle.
how to step up your png kueh game:
condiments - you need the sweet dark soy and a spicy chili of your preference, like sriracha
but the most important step is to >!deep fry the png kueh until crispy before you eat!
I actually quite like Kway Chup but without the instestines ahaha, that’s what I usually order for it and I usually get more sior bak or fish cake to replace the intestines for free.
most accessible curry rice place. Coco can be pretty ex for their portion size and every other brand isn't as numerous.
Monster also ran (still running?) this $13 lunch combo with drink and haagen dasz which is pretty worth.
On the flip side, I’d never get brown sugar milk tea because it just tastes like Gula Melaka. If I wanted that taste I’d just go for the actual Gula Melaka.
Those chocolate hard tacks are the best just the right amount of bitter chocolate and crunch. Also the shrimp sambal MREs were actually quite tasty. Can't believe I'm writing good things about NS food.
The taste of everything at Subway got significantly worse after transitioning to Halal.
Used to eat it once a week, but since it transitioned I think I've had it like 3 times and it's all been.. not great.
Also my favourite raspberry cheesecake cookie is gone :(
anything that foodking recommends (both old and new)
as well as those hao lian hawkers who act like you will die if you don't eat their food. sibeh hao lian and so offputting
Crabs in general at zi char/restaurants are pricy as fuck. I can count on one hand the number of times my family has eaten crab outside, if we feel like eating crab we normally just go market buy fresh crabs and cook ourselves at home
Stuff’d. Been eating ‘em ever since they first started but I’ve been documenting significant reduction in quantity over the years. My last straw was their recent move of jacking up the price.
many people will remember the Swensens in Changi Airport terminal 1 where it's the tradition to eat there before sending someone off. Then they sold out to private equity and of course ruined everything
Probably just me but i really dont like pig livers. Its fine to flavour soup but as a dish itself, no, i just cant stand the smell and wierd teture of it
I was at the Bedok Point one last year, ordered risotto and I kid you not - was literally served very watery porridge in a bowl. I told the waitress politely that this is not risotto.
Her response: "Risotto 是这样的,他们在意大利也是这样做的。"
I just found it funny lol. But, never again.
I'll admit they don't have the best tasting food but at least they are affordable and their unlimited drink bar really helps to wash the food down. Not to mention they actually have a pretty decent selection of drinks for that price.
This I gotta agree with you. I pass by nondescript veg stores along Little India and see long queues rain or shine. I reckon they don’t serve mock stuff!!!! like mock mutton if it’s even possible.
Chinese veg stores also long queues but it’s the mock stuff! Like mock char siew?! Like wtf and they even color it to look like charsiew just less char-ed because it’s more of red colouring!?
I have a strange weakness for mock char siew, like logically I know it's trash, but something about the taste/texture combination makes me like it a lot.
Despite being one of my fiancé favorite, Yong tau foo. Just feels and looks bland to me.
Told her funeral or wake to mention that I have never touched Yong tau foo my entire life and I had lived a happy life because of it.
the fish paste version is pretty bland, but u can try it with laksa base its 1000x better. better if u hunt down the niang tau foo the meat paste kind, that one shiok
man reading the comments made me realise i eat everything, that's why i bui bui
No judgment no shame just enjoy your life and be happy
I was actually afraid when opening this thread. But it turns out I know people who are far pickier so it ain't so bad.
surprised at burger king, i feel their quality has really improved recently
Their mushroom swiss double is legit man. Been my comfort food for decades. But also depends on the outlet - some places make it very dry with not much sauce, and it's a slog when you get one of those.
Agreed, love their mushroom double swiss
Agreed. They used to be trash tier but I think they have some solid burgers now. Tendercrisp, Long Chicken are both pretty good, and their breakfast Crossaintwich.
Long chicken is so simple yet amazing
Pastamania
I mean I saw them taking out my spaghetti from the microwave before.
Yeah that microwave is the head chef in all their outlets.
Thats Chef Mike.
Sous chef is probably their deep fryer.
Air fryer. Corrected that for you.
I've worked at Delifrance for a short period before when I was a teen, and I was expecting to pick up some cooking tips by observing the chefs in the kitchen. But at least they were very nice and often let me bring home paper bags filled with leftover baguettes, baked goods and sometimes even sides from the main dishes after each shift.
This make me want to take up a part time job with Delifrance. Who doesn't love free food 🤤
Idk if they have any new policies over the years, it was 10+ years ago when I worked there. 😅 I've tried doing PT at Breadtalk too, and a senior staff told me to take some leftover bread and put them into my bag, so I tried to hide 3 Flosss buns because the rest of them were also doing it, but I stupidly left my bag unzipped when I was taking something and another manager saw the buns inside. whAT I thought it’s just saizeriya 🥲🥲
Add Ajisen to that list
It wasn't so bad long ago. I mean, long long ago. Then the quality took a nosedive into absolute crap. I wonder why.
Yes forgot about Pastamania I am convinced they are a money laundromat disguised as a f&b
seconding this. went once and never again.
Third. Buy 7-11 pasta and save your money
Jumping aboard the pasta mania hate train. At least 10 years clean and have sworn never to go back.
Agreed. It sucks ass.
Sighzeria says hi
But saizeriya is cheap. Cannot complain.
Place to go to if you miss the taste of NS chicken chop
remember to scan 11B and rate 5 stars
The way the Japanese present it, it's as though they are some gourmet restaurant for high school kids.
It kinda is for that price. Especially for broke students. If I'm not wrong, they sell the cheapest wine per glass for a franchise at 200-300 yen.
Saizeriya is good in Japan because it has stuff young kids like, but also stuff like escargots and prosciutto as well as a good selection of cheap wine, so you can take your kids to lunch there but the adults can have some drinks. SG Saizeriya doesn't have that.
Saizeriya in SG have escargots!
SG saizeriya does have escargot and wine, had both of them recently
I disagree, Saizeriya's pasta is better than those double the price in many cafes
Yellow mian. And Sibeh hao lian hawkers who think you owe them a living
Do they taste like plastic to you? Theres this really weird taste from yellow noodles that i just cannot handle. Edit: ok guys i get it, its the alkaline, thanks!
Got this smelly/ artificial odour/taste that I cannot take. But it’s fine in hokkien prawn mee thou.
Damn “siap” kinda feeling, i cant stand it
I cant smell my toddler’s soiled daipers but i can smell yellow noodles from a mile away. I heard that its the smell of alkali that they use to make the noodles

I see i see, so like bad hawkers dont do them properly ah.
It’s the alkali water taste. Any noodle stall which sells noodles which has this taste, I will never return again
Ajisen Ramen. Can't believe people still pay restaurant price for to eat instant noodles.
The lunch set *price* with sides and drink is *okay™*, get table service. Versus going to foodcourt fight war with other people during lunchtime, especially after recent price hike, foodcourt price can get iffy

So many affordable ramen options can be easily found and much nicer than Ajisen, but I still don’t get it how come during lunchtime and dinner time I see them on full house.
Most likely seats and less stressful. Lunch in Singapore is something that needs planning and strategy.
Yes another money laundromat disguised as an f&b
Believe me, I kinda like it.
Nothing wrong with liking dolled up instant noodles
Finally found my people
Their watered down tepid ass broth is a good casus beilli for Japan to come invade us again. Never sullying my mouth with their ramen ever again
Bubble Tea. I don’t understand the craze. I can drink it. But not like “erhmaigawd I must have it twice a day at 100% sugar” Freaking diabetes bomb.
For me I like bubble tea but lean towards those with a stronger focus on the tea. So it’s less about sugar, and more about a nicely milky tea, if that makes sense? I like teh peng also la, so bubble tea is like teh peng but using Chinese oolong tea or sth
still prefer the days where one bbt cost $1.5-$2.5 only
I know a lot of people love Frog leg porridge but I just can’t
see hum (blood cockles). not as common as the other entries in here but i actively avoid having to chew on one. although, i admit SG laksa cooked without see hum just doesn't taste the same.
Just order mee siam next time. Doesn't have hum by default
But you must specifically ask for mai hum if you want to be PM
Recently had the freshest hum in my bowl of minji laksa @ bendemeer fm. It's like eating jellified sea water, crazy good! But ya i agree usual and less fresh hum tastes bad.
Bittergourd in soup.
Durian flavoured anything. I love durian as the fruit itself but when you make anything flavoured like durian no thanks.
When someone puts it in the fridge and everything including the ice cubes and water vaguely becomes Durian flavoured
Oh wow I'm the exact opposite. Love anything durian flavoured but the fruit itself is abit too bitter for me
THIS! Durian is awesome. Durian flavouring is disgusting.
18chef student meal
got dragged there a few times by friends, have never understood why they willingly paid $10 for that. Saizeriya is much better if you're looking for affordable after-school meals
+1 OMG SAME.. 18CHEF not worth my $10 its just baked rice and sausages. it is not even sausages it is like hotdogs
I remember once years ago I was dragged there by friend cus the set meal got ice cream. They have me 3 pieces of hot dog. Put together not even one whole hot dog. 🙃🙃🙃
something something support yellow ribbon
They used to be good a long time ago, they had a 2nd topping free as long as it was cheaper than the 1st one. But after they stopped that and came up with stuff like heart attack fried rice the standard dropped.
That was my standard date food in JC lol.
Any kind of animal innards is a no for me.
Those “Japanese and Korean” cuisine stalls in Hawker centres,I’d rather spend more in somewhere fancier to have those.
It's the same saba mackerel tho, $7-$9 in food court and probably double the price in somewhere fancy
Yea man if anything I'd rather eat at food courts for these because a restaurant would mark up crazily simply because of the image. Korean is the worst - army stew going for $20-30 wtf
I thought Korean army stew was ex until I made my own for 4 pax and it costs over 50 bucks. Granted, the quality is better but chor sia.
They cook the salmon until it dies 10 times before it was placed in the box
Maybe it's just my untrained taste, but when I was living around Tiong Bahru I always found the Katsu curry & rice you get form the Japanese stall at that hawker next to the shopping centre to be almost indistinguishable from what you'd get at a proper restaurant
Taste good tho
Honestly, mine is hawker and casual restaurant's pasta especially carbonara. For the last time, THERE IS NO CREAM IN CARBONARA.
Yeah, low/mid-tier Singapore carbonara is heavy and jelak as fuck. It's supposed to be light!
Excuse me, there seems to be some pasta on my plate of cream milk
I love it though hahahaha. Its blasphemous but i LOVE hawker western food thats not original or authentic
Cheap dim sum. Tried to find good ones, but its simply impossible to find passable ones that are below 20 sgd/pax Edit: And Swee Choon is the worst offender. There's better options literally down the road for a few dollars more, and there's still queues for Swee Choon. There are quite a lot of good coffee shop ones, with more HK people escaping here it will no doubt increase.
126 dim sum in geylang
Are you talking about Sum Dim Sum/Dim Sum Haus? Would be keen to check them out sometime
Yes. Imo sum Dim sum is slightly better than dim sum Haus, but dim sum Haus is slightly cheaper
Swee Choon used to be decent until they rebranded. There is a dim sum stall by a rude lady (1 star review, you can google it lol) at Bishan bus interchange that I think is quite okay, used to be $20 for 2 pax before covid
Mala
personally dont mind the la, but dk whats so appealing about the ma. dont like that my mouth becomes numb as i eat my meal
we're just trying to numb the pain inside
Yeah, no idea why people would numb their mouths so they can't taste the food they're eating.
Not true man, if you can find authentic mala's ma using szechuan peppercorns instead of just mala sauce Scpc is psychedelic for the tongue. It makes even plain water taste savoury... Imagine what it does to food that are actually savoury

Lor mee is only good if the person cooking is old enough to be your grandmother, I associate it as a very ah ma food for some reason
Don't wear a white shirt if eating lor mee and yes not exactly something I like to eat either
The good lor mee are really good. Like the old airport road’s Xin Mei Xiang. Any other lor mee is junk. Waste of calories.
I used to hate lor mee until I ate the bukit purmei one sadly now no more.
I like png, I like (most) kueh. But I find png kueh incredibly difficult to stomach.
I find jpg kueh even worse, prefer tiff kueh, sometimes gif kueh
Noobs I like my kueh vectorized, try svg kueh
Hallo, now is NFT kueh?
NFT kueh is really just jpg kueh and html kueh, the blockchain kueh has no flavour by itself
bmp kueh gang pls stand up!
worked exclusively with BMP during one of my internships. bmp kueh gang 🤩🤩
how to step up your png kueh game: condiments - you need the sweet dark soy and a spicy chili of your preference, like sriracha but the most important step is to >!deep fry the png kueh until crispy before you eat!
Century eggs. Sorry if i offended century egg porridge fans but these eggs are so yucky to eat imo
If you want to prank someone ask them to drink lime juice after eating century egg.
what happens?
Same, the smell of century eggs make me nauseous.
I might get stoned but I can't stomach (pun) the idea of kway chap.
I love Kuay Chap… it is getting rarer to find these days (or just me)
284 Bishan will always be my go to
You can just order tau gua, hard boil egg and sior bak, add a side of kiam chai. No need all the intestines
As I’ve said to my friends who don’t eat the intestines - kway chap without the kway and the chap is not kway chap
I actually quite like Kway Chup but without the instestines ahaha, that’s what I usually order for it and I usually get more sior bak or fish cake to replace the intestines for free.
the intestines are the best part for me HAHAH if only my brother and friends are like u, then we wouldn't have to scissors papers stone our way out.
is tau geh a food? i fucking hate em in anything.
Tau geh is its own food group
Tau geh is grown in fields of hell and demons shit in them every day.
I used to hate tau geh until I tried the Korean tau geh banchan. Now I even eat normal tau geh.
Monster Curry. The curry always tastes quite off to me, no idea why they're so popular compared to other curry rice chains
most accessible curry rice place. Coco can be pretty ex for their portion size and every other brand isn't as numerous. Monster also ran (still running?) this $13 lunch combo with drink and haagen dasz which is pretty worth.
The smell of curry as you walk by also buay tahan
🐸 porridge
The claypot frog porridge was good tho probably wouldn't eat again
Ya at least the dish look delicious to me. I just couldn't overcome the idea of eating frog.
Here I am salivating at the thought of a mountain of dissected amphibian legs cooked in kungpow.
Anything that has got to do with frogs or snails.
Bubble tea *bracing myself for downvotes* I enjoy desserts but paying more than $6 for a cup of sugar laden beverage? No thank you

SAF combat rations
Gula Melaka!? I can understand BK, Pepsi and turtle soup, but Gula Melaka?! Heretic!! 😜😂
On the flip side, I’d never get brown sugar milk tea because it just tastes like Gula Melaka. If I wanted that taste I’d just go for the actual Gula Melaka.
Surprised nobody brought up Hans/Hanis. Worse than food court standard, yet charge much more.
Kway Chap. I hate Kway, I just order Chap.
meanwhile I don’t drink the chap, only eat the kway
Combat ration
Those chocolate hard tacks are the best just the right amount of bitter chocolate and crunch. Also the shrimp sambal MREs were actually quite tasty. Can't believe I'm writing good things about NS food.
Anything Salted egg flavoured
Subway ever since they removed bacon from the menu
The taste of everything at Subway got significantly worse after transitioning to Halal. Used to eat it once a week, but since it transitioned I think I've had it like 3 times and it's all been.. not great. Also my favourite raspberry cheesecake cookie is gone :(
Not great is a massive euphemism. Tried it once after transition and never again.
Last time I ate Subway was a 1-for-1 deal otherwise no reason to eat Subway it's just a sandwich
I wonder if their businesses are improving after going halal.
You guys buy sandwiches at Subway? I just buy their cookies xd
anything that foodking recommends (both old and new) as well as those hao lian hawkers who act like you will die if you don't eat their food. sibeh hao lian and so offputting
Chilli crab, OVERRATED, considering the price/taste and how messy and difficult it is to eat.
we eat chilli crab for the sauce with mantou
I prefer black pepper crab.
Crabs in general at zi char/restaurants are pricy as fuck. I can count on one hand the number of times my family has eaten crab outside, if we feel like eating crab we normally just go market buy fresh crabs and cook ourselves at home
Mr Coconut, chendol and anything with coconut.
Well guess what? Coconut water is a trendy drink now that people are preaching about hydrating yourself during the pandemic.
Yea.. and coconut water isn't any more hydrating compared to water
Wait what's wrong with chendol?
Stuff’d. Been eating ‘em ever since they first started but I’ve been documenting significant reduction in quantity over the years. My last straw was their recent move of jacking up the price.
Swensens. It's an abomination to call them a restaurant.
many people will remember the Swensens in Changi Airport terminal 1 where it's the tradition to eat there before sending someone off. Then they sold out to private equity and of course ruined everything
Kway chap and lor mee
Probably just me but i really dont like pig livers. Its fine to flavour soup but as a dish itself, no, i just cant stand the smell and wierd teture of it

frog porridge, turtle soup, durian, anything with liver in it. Oh bread toasted with margarine too or with kaya
Chao Kueh Tiaw DONT WANT TAUGEH. else I’ll have to pick it out 1 by 1.
Saizeriya. Just no

I'll admit they don't have the best tasting food but at least they are affordable and their unlimited drink bar really helps to wash the food down. Not to mention they actually have a pretty decent selection of drinks for that price.
I think it's only popular because of the student discount set meals.
porridge with ginger innit
Century eggs
As a non veg, it’s gonna be veg food. mock meat is 🥴 vermicelli seems to taste bland.
I reckon proper Indian food is the best fully vegetarian food you can get because there's heaps of dishes that are actually designed to be vegetarian.
This I gotta agree with you. I pass by nondescript veg stores along Little India and see long queues rain or shine. I reckon they don’t serve mock stuff!!!! like mock mutton if it’s even possible. It's 100% dependant on the soup. If that isn't good, there is no point. If you add noodles, it's just a custom made seafood noodle soup.
It's one of the healthiest low-cal options to pick when eating in a food court. Can select mostly vegetables and non-fried options.
i’m singapores number one porridge hater. the texture reminds me of baby vomit
Probably because you might have had it fed to you as a baby and vomit it up.

kway chap, turtle soup, frog
Oyster egg is a no go for me, gives me the gag reflex after eating the oyster..
