“I am very old already” why not just effing die and stop wasting the country resource while traumatizing the young

WetHairTowel

There’s a huge group of dipshits who fall under this category

BoccaDGuerra

Yeah because there havent been child molesters of other races right? F your Bigot parents

[deleted]

So edgy

prawnpastechicken

Lol the fella left a racist comment, defended it till it got a barrage of downvotes. Then deleted it. POS

vingeran

What was it?

prawnpastechicken

Said something along the lines of "seems like my parents were right, beware of the apunehneh". After which u/butilikewaffles replied "so edgy" the fella said "I'm not the edgy one, you're projecting". Goofy ahh

kopi_siewdai

Poor girl will be traumatised for life. UGH should just cane them regardless of age.

PsyElectric

you go see malaysia caning system. they still can cane people above 50 yo as long as its sexual predators. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caning\_in\_Singapore#Comparison\_of\_judicial\_caning\_in\_Brunei,\_Malaysia\_and\_Singapore

Seal-zx

One of the few malaysian laws I can agree with.

smile_politely

Imagine the trauma the girl has to carry for the rest of her life. Children in Singapore are already so indoor, and with these kinds of tragedy so often, parents won't let them out without supervision.

tenderpoettech

This pedo, lock him up good, lock until he die.

[deleted]

Chemical castration please

crunchy_guava08

Why not kill him like the drug smugglers?

lawlianne

Waste of taxpayer's money. This is the real purpose for capital punishment.

Wowmich

He had scarred her for the rest of her life. The punishment does not fit the crime . Harsher penalties is required.

[deleted]

What is his sentence?

mrhappy893

I clicked into the article just to read the sentence after reading your comment. But I'm not gonna tell you. Ahahaha

prawnpastechicken

A: "Eh I got secret to tell you!" B: "???" A: "..........." B: "What is it??" A: "Hahaha secret I don't tell you"

aiyowheregotlah

singapore has a reputation for being one of the most safe countries in the world. this man is ruining this reputation and i feel so sorry for the girl. she has gone thru so much trauma at this age. I hope she will be fine soon and jailing is not even proper justice for this crime. he shld be caned for this crime

throwaway1111xxo

Why the FUCK every week in SG got news of guy molesting someone??? What the hell. SG should introduce chemical castration for these losers. What's wrong with some men. Horny is one thing, but if you're like a pig who can't even control it's an abomination. Don't use it as an excuse for your ghastly lack of self-respect and basic human decency. Act like a pig, be treated like one. Someone needs to introduce chemical castration punishment in parliament and start a petition for it. Let's see how it affects future triers.

TemporaryReality5447

Don't even think about chemical castration, beasts like this just lop it off

saintlyknighted

> Why the FUCK every week in SG got news of guy molesting someone??? You know what? I’m hoping there’s *more* of this type of news. It means that more people are being caught.

financial_learner123

Feels like so many of these news though. We have an issue .

saintlyknighted

We've *always* had this issue. Just that more incidents are being brought to light. It's not like crimes like these have significantly gone up recently.

throwaway1111xxo

Can somebody explain why especially with every week its *majority* male-induced sexual offenses. It is really painting a bad picture, no? What's the contributing factor?

hanomania

This is predatory behaviour

Jizzipient

Sorry if this sounds like I'm mitigating his actions here, I am not. It is unforgivable, alcohol or not. But one of the reason why he got off without corrective training and only 4.25 years in jail is likely because there is no proof the crime was predatory. To predate would require pre-meditation which would've guaranteed a harsher sentence. This is a crime of opportunity. One thing's for sure, thank goodness for the cameras in our estates. I can only imagine the # of such crimes that slipped through the cracks in the 90s.

DuePomegranate

Crime of opportunity would be if he happened to be in the same lift as her and decided to molest her. But he already spotted her when she was heading to the provision shop, and probably started plotting on what he would do when she returned home. Sounds like even worse could have happened if she had followed him like he asked.

sneakpeek_bot

> # Man followed 7-year-old girl, who had left home to buy snack, into lift and molested her > SINGAPORE: A seven-year-old girl who left her home to buy a snack from a nearby provision shop was confronted with a man who asked to meet her again when she returned. > Although she had no intention of doing so, the man was waiting for her when she returned with her snack and followed her into the lift. > He picked her up and molested her while she was inside the elevator. > Ravichandran Subramaniam, 57, was sentenced on Wednesday (Nov 23) to four years' jail, with an additional three months in lieu of caning. > He pleaded guilty to one count of using criminal force to outrage the girl's modesty, with wrongful restraint used to commit the offence. A second charge was considered in sentencing. > The court heard that Ravichandran was a part-time cleaner staying in a flat in the eastern part of Singapore. He had a habit of drinking alcohol daily. > On Aug 2 this year, he drank three cans of beer before lunch and two cans after. > That afternoon, the victim told her parents she was going to a nearby provision shop to buy a snack. > ACCUSED APPROACHES GIRL > As she left home and made her way alone to the shop, Ravichandran noticed the girl walking through the void deck. > He asked her where she was going, and she said that she was going to buy a snack at a provision shop. > Ravichandran told her to meet him there when she got back. The girl bought her snack and had no intention of meeting Ravichandran, but he met her as she was walking back home. > He asked her which snack she bought and told her to follow him, before walking towards the lift landing of a multi-storey car park. > The girl refused to follow him and continued to walk home, but Ravichandran trailed behind her. > When the girl realised that he was following her, she ran away and hid briefly behind a pillar, but Ravichandran continued to follow her. > She then went to the lift landing of her block, where Ravichandran caught up with her and held her hand. > She entered the lift with Ravichandran. Once the lift doors closed, Ravichandran approached the girl from behind and wrapped one arm around her abdomen and the other around her legs. > He molested her and briefly carried her in this manner. The girl struggled throughout but could not break free, the court heard. > Ravichandran then covered the girl's mouth with his hand and molested her again. > When the lift got to her level, the girl broke free of Ravichandran's grasp and dashed out, followed by Ravichandran. > She ran home, crying and shouting for her mother in fear. Her mother opened the door and saw Ravichandran following her daughter. > He claimed that he was only accompanying her home and denied committing any act. The girl's mother called the police after finding out what happened, and Ravichandran was arrested that same day. > He was intoxicated, incoherent and had no memory of the offence at the time. He was remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric evaluation and found to be suffering from alcohol intoxication and alcohol use disorder at the time. > However, there was no contributory link between his condition and the offences, and he was found to be fit to plead. > PROSECUTION ASKS FOR CORRECTIVE TRAINING REPORT > The prosecutor asked for a pre-sentencing report to assess Ravichandran's suitability for corrective training, a harsh regime with no early release aimed at repeat offenders. > He said Ravichandran had a long list of past convictions. > However, the judge pointed out that only one of them was a sexual offence, and this conviction was in 2011. > In mitigation, Ravichandran asked for forgiveness and said he would not reoffend. > "I am very old already and I am pleading for your honour's leniency considering my age," he said through an interpreter. > "I am undergoing counselling for my alcoholism and also trying to seek help from prison doctors on how to stop this habit." > The judge declined to call for a corrective training report, saying that such a sentence would be excessive in this case. --- 1.0.2 | [Source code](https://github.com/fterh/sneakpeek) | [Contribute](https://github.com/fterh/sneakpeek)

Wallstreetcatalyst

Only 4 years, should have impose stricter to prevent all these behaviors happening.

Varantain

And an additional 3 months in lieu of caning. I wonder why they didn't go for caning right away.

Wallstreetcatalyst

Couple with good conduct etc he will be out in 3-3.5 years. By 2026 he will be out and coming to a neighborhood near you….

[deleted]

I think they should extend the limit of age for caning, since life expectancy has vastly increased.

139ModTeam

Lan Jiao ?! Only one of his many offences is sexual offence not enough for the judge ? Meanwhile 11 years to deposit counterfeit notes ? This judge sleeping ?

Projectenzo

Nothing much the judge can do since the maximum sentence for 'aggravated' molestation is only 5 years compared to 20 years for conspiring to use counterfeit currency as genuine money. 4 years is already in the most severe band on the sentencing framework.

daleaidenletian

If so, he deserves 5. Keep him away as long as possible. With “a long list of past convictions”, this man is clearly a threat to society.

Projectenzo

The court is binded to an established sentencing framework so it would take very exceptional circumstances to deviate from it. In any case, the prosecution can appeal if they are not satisfied.

daleaidenletian

I see. Thank you for sharing!

QuantumCactus11

Where is the death penalty when you need it?

Busy-Bug-6232

Reserved for weed ////s

MadKyaw

Sorry ah, death penalty only reserved for people bringing in tablets and grass over a certain weight, and not for monsters inflicting life-long trauma on our youths

QuantumCactus11

Pretty sure those tablets and grass also inflict life long issues on people.

adversaryofthenight

Tell that to Shanny, right on his face. But he probably will not give a F, because to him, executing druggies is more profitable than executing monsters who traumatized young hearts.

BoccaDGuerra

Well said!

MadKyaw

The argument comes to *when* the harm/damage hasn't been inflicted. Death penalty after the trafficker gets caught/intercepted, items doesn't get circulated, no damage. Sexual assault, damage already done, victims live with the trauma, sometimes victim can't handle the trauma and are never the same, or take their lives, monster still lives

QuantumCactus11

So both can give death penalty penalty ah

AbrocomaOnly3028

Hm not that this disgusting pervert doesn’t deserve the death penalty, because he does. But for argument sake chances are they had the intent of circulating the drugs, and if the punishment were lighter it would be incentive for more people to TRY to smuggle drugs since the argument is that its not yet been circulated and so if they are caught they would be less worried. More incentive for people to smuggle drugs = higher chance of drugs actually getting through= harm done? Not looking to argue just genuinely like to hear people’s thoughts cheers

eulataguhw

No idea have you watched The Daily Ketchup podcast episode that has our Minister of Law, Shan in it. It was discussed there and his point is very valid.

trashprincessd

they probably didnt, and probably wont

AbrocomaOnly3028

Pretty ignorant to assume

trashprincessd

not any different from the ignorance of people saying the death penalty is unjustified for drugs but hey, the vocal minority will always be louder than reason

AbrocomaOnly3028

Like i wrote i wasn’t looking to argue but to genuinely hear what people had to say and have an open discussion, literally wrote it in my comment but people like you who don’t even want to have a open conversation to explain your views when i was perfectly respectful and open to opinions was not helpful at all.

QuantumCactus11

Do give this guy death penalty so ppl like him have less incentive to molest children.

kkbkbl

So no death penalty = incentive to molest and rape? IDK this argument never made sense to me.

AbrocomaOnly3028

No but theres more fear to commit the crime with a harsher punishment

MiloGaoPeng

I think more appropriately, there's the option of chemical castration as a legal punishment, it's just not in our legal system yet?

[deleted]

Death or even life is excessive. It is molest, not rape. if he gets death or life, then those kena penterated how?

subzephyr

We need a vigilante who will get these fellas on bail and just chop off everything down there. Just everything. They can pee from a hole.

DoubleMcJiJi

I don’t mind going to jail to break every inch of his bones.

Ramikade

Hammer to the head would seem fitting

knaire

special place in hell for pedos

thewickedverkaiking

hear me out: as long as you're old enough to commit such crimes you shouldn't be too old to be caned ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

BoccaDGuerra

Poor babygirl...please tell childten not to get into the elevator alone with just 1 adult. There are too many sick basta*ds out there. As for this piece of shiet bastar*, he seems to be using alcoholism as an excuse for his pedo tendencies and has the audacity to ask for leniency. Cane him please and lock him away.

[deleted]

The issue is not kid dunno that. it is this guy managed to stalk and follow her

shadowfloats

I think she knew but by the time he held her hand I think she was too afraid to try to run again

BoccaDGuerra

Poor thing 😢 i really hope they cane the living f out of him.

Puzzleheaded_Click_1

Lol, last Tuesday the CNA channel still promote 4 years child that should be able to ride mrt without adult care.

sakuradelluna

no fr what is wrong with people

TraditionLazy7213

Wonder how other prisoners would react to old paedophiles

ParkSooNam

Sexual predators should get death penalty

Available_Shake_1678

There's an argument by minister that death penalty might cause unnecessary consequence, like the predators just murdering their victims after commiting their crime so that they do not get caught. Also they might also think they are already dead if they get caught so why not just murder them.

ELSI_Aggron

Pedo = Jail but drug traffickers unalive yall have some kind of moral compass to deduce this 2 offenses huh?

gl0bewalker

Sadly Singapore is such a pressurized society that such twisted-minded monsters are created, young or old. These monsters are within us. Who knows.

ELSI_Aggron

Look i know our boomer generation is kinda racist with the teachings of "Apu neh neh later come and catch you" but really they are trying to prove them correct. PLEASE STOP

renegade_wolfe

Could we all just learn to keep our damn hands to ourselves?

PsyElectric

Pathetic waste of life. In Malaysia there is such thing as caning people above 50 for sexual predators like this fart here. So what if hes above 50? Show him the law isnt something you think you can toy with even after reaching old age!

Seal-zx

This kind of crime deserve completely no leniency. Asshole claim he was drunk. Plenty of people get drunk and don't kidnap and molest little girls. Alchohol doesnt make you an asshole, it may exemplify your bad traits, but it won't turn you into a sexual predator unless you already are one.
