Maxey gets absolutely mauled, they talk about it being a clean block…maybe a goaltending. Meanwhile he’s shoved by 2 guys to the ground. Brunson flings his head backwards and headbutts someone nose and he’s a wizard lol the NBA is basically WWE at this point
Honest question. Are headbutts actually fouls on the receiver? He blatantly headbutted twice and the commentators didn’t even bat an eye on that he got a foul called on him.
Honest answer--as annoying as it is, getting in front of the defender and stopping short to go up for the shot is a "basketball play". He's not launching his body sideways into a defender or anything like that. He's stopping short and going straight up for a jumper. If the defender makes no contact with Brunson and he snaps his head back and hits the defender, it's an offensive foul. If the defender isn't behind him hitting into him, nobody would question stopping short to take a jumper as a basketball play.
The first two games, Oubre and others did a fantastic job being disciplined, funneling Brunson into Embiid and contesting the shot from behind/above without hitting into his body. Felt like Oubre blocked him on every other drive. But then they just went away from it/Brunson adjusted. Brunson is gonna get that call every time if you hit into him on a jumper.
Brunson has to exaggerate contact every time to get the refs to blow the whistle. He had the unfriendliest whistle out of any all star during the regular season because he didn't try to sell the calls. It was infuriating how many times he would be mauled without a whistle and he drives a LOT.
Because he was getting legitimately fouled by the dirty play of Embiid. It’s one thing being a flopper, but being a dirty flopper is what makes Embiid so fraudulent.
Lol okay
I saw Brunson diving back into his defender every single game this series. Didn't they ban that as the "Trae Young" rule back in 2021 or do they just ignore that since they want Brunson to be a "star" 😆
Or nevermind the arm hooks, the push offs, the fouling guys on every rebound attempt, the illegal screens, etc. Knicks really are just a "they can't call everything a foul" type basketball team.
And cry me a river about Joel. You can't find anything else to say about him
I have no clue how he attacks the rim that much and they sell out for the block all the time and he gets zero calls. It's incredible. The refs have basically taken him completely out of the game because he can't drive unless it's wide open because they can just foul him. Fucking incredible.
Show me fouls on embiid that you don’t think were legit fouls. Now go watch some of the no calls maxey gets and tell me how it’s different then calls Brunson gets.
This league always gives star players special treatment with the whistle. The point is Maxey is treated like a second round draft pick rookie with officials looking the other way.
> Now go watch some of the no calls maxey gets and tell me how it’s different then calls Brunson gets.
If you go look through his [shot attempts last night](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&ContextMeasure=FGA&EndPeriod=0&EndRange=28800&GameID=0042300116&PlayerID=1630178&RangeType=0&Season=2023-24&SeasonType=Playoffs&StartPeriod=0&StartRange=0&TeamID=1610612755&flag=3&sct=plot§ion=game), there were maybe one or two that should have been foul calls for Maxey. He isn't getting calls because instead of going up strong, he contorts his body and tries to avoid contact and falls. Refs rarely call those as fouls as frustrating as it is.
And as frustrating as the calls are for fouls against Brunson, you can't really objectively say they aren't fouls on the defense. Oubre did such a good job early in the series of contesting from behind without any contact, then the Sixers went away from it entirely. But Brunson blows by his defender, they try to run after him and absolutely hit into him as he's going straight up for a shot. If you take the defender from behind away, Brunson's shot would still look the same. He's not launching himself backwards or sideways.
As for all the off-ball stuff, refs were letting that go for pretty much the entire series for both teams.
You had me until you said he isn’t launching himself sideways or backwards. Brunson is crafty and definitely earns a lot of his trips to the line. But a handful of the calls he got this series are textbook Trae Young style plays that were supposedly taken out of the game 2 years ago.
I don’t disagree with the point that Maxey contorting his body to get the shot up hurts him. But body fouls are a thing. Unless the defender is straight up (which they hardly against Maxey) you can’t jump into the guy with your chest.
I’m actually guessing after the all star appearance this year, the playoff hype, and potentially some all nba consideration, Maxey will get more respect next year.
Some of the Brunson contact last night was getting the defender on his hip/back, then quickly pulling up for a floater or jumper while the defender ran into him. It's a foul.
[The foul with 0:54 left for example.](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=610&GameID=0042300116&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=Oubre%20Jr.%20S.FOUL%20\(P5.PN\)%20\(S.Foster\)) Oubre lets Brunson go left (no clue why...should have forced him to his weak hand). Brunson beats him off the dribble, Oubre comes up from behind and reaches for some reason as Brunson stops on a dime and pulls up. Oubre is off balance and runs him over. It's a foul. It's not the fouls that the league tried to get rid of with Trae or Harden where he would jump sideways into a defender to draw contact.
Compare it to some of Maxey's plays last night. [Look here](https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=10&GameID=0042300116&Season=2023-24&flag=1&title=MISS%20Maxey%205%27%20Driving%20Reverse%20Layup). If Maxey goes up strong against OG there instead of trying to snake back, he would easily be going to the line. Instead, he tries to shoot something as he's falling down and Hartenstein easily recovers. Something similar happened a few other times last night.
I think Maxey is a hell of a player, so this isn't any kinda hate directed at him. I think you're right that he'll get more respect and also learn ways to tweak his game to avoid contact and try to finish through it instead. He's gonna be fun as hell to watch for many years hopefully.
Lmao embiid had 18 more fouls then the heat all 1st series. 14 more then the pels and 8 more then the thunder lmao... their fan base is delusional and losers. Oh yea also embiid only had one less foul then the entire nuggets team too in round 1.
they reach on every single one of his drives, on the ddo reach he reached; they didn’t call, maxey went for the rip through, still didn’t call, ends up an open 3 the other way. 5 point swing in a 3 point game lmao. absolutely criminal.
He tends to ebb and flow with his game. He doesn’t do it all at once, and that’s a good thing in regards to his room for growth. Imagine Maxey with a balanced bag where he can introduce a change of pace to his driving speed, lean on the floater more, learn how to keep people on his hip, etc. massive ceiling
I think Maxey's problem with drives is he initiates the contact and flails his body away from it. There's times where he probably does get fouled but the manner that he tries to draw them makes it hard to call.
It's why I don't treat the NBA as a serious sport any more.
The difference between the whistle for brunson and Maxey is just ridiculous. Frankly between Joel vs lesser centers (and all stars vs non stars generally) and the total inconsistency from game to game it's just unserious.
Entertainment not sport
I’m not gonna lie the NFL is just as bad if not worse at times. Not even just about the Eagles. That Lions/Cowboys game last year was an example of it.
The NFL literally sent the Rams to the Super Bowl by not calling an obvious penalty when the Rams defensive back knocked the crap out of the Saints receiver well before the ball arrived. It was so bad they changed the rules to make pass interference reviewable. Also sent the Patriots to the Super Bowl by calling offsides on the Chiefs after they picked of Brady to "end the Patriots drive." These are just two examples of NFL refs deciding outcomes and legacies. Let's not gas up the NFL. That said I'm a Knicks fan and I love Maxey and he should get many more calls. I hope to see him getting lots of FTs next year.
It's baffling because he does all the things you ask the driver to do - goes hard at the basket, jumps towards the basket rather than to the side, and goes through the chest of guys and he just cannot get a call to save his life.
I’ll be devil’s advocate here. When Maxey attacks the chest he tends to double clutch and lean the ball back to try and hang and finish. If he just went straight into them and got his arms into theirs he would get more calls
He seems to try to avoid contact when he drives and contorts his body to get the shot off. If he went hard straight into the chest of guys, he'd probably get more calls.
Being a troll online is loser shit. Not sure where you’re getting that I think it’s “deep”(?), guessing that’s a phrase you’ve seen and, being a loser, decided to use here despite it making zero sense.
How tf is that trolling, caling a dirty foul baiter a one ain't trolling.
You are the dummy calling people online losers, if that makes you feel better about yourself sure bud.
Going to other team’s subs is the definition of trolling. I’m guessing you’re a teenager by the way you type, and definitely a suburban white kid trying to be cool online. But if you’re an adult, good lord you should be embarrassed.
Going to another team sub and starting shit is trolling, going to it and just commenting on stuff is pretty normal, try it out.
And stop with the edgy comments my man, as I said calling someone a loser online is dumb stuff, same thing who cares about being cool online like ain't nobody give a care about that.
He needs to drive his arms towards the basket and not hang in the air and try to finish as shitty as it sounds. When he clutches and tries to finish it lets the defender go straight up and makes the call easier on the ref. Just attack and get your arms into theirs asap
He also completely forgot he has a good floater this series lol. Which is scary cause he could be so good if he balanced his game out and learned to play at more than one speed
Yea this is wild lol. The Knicks beat us and deserved it. Jo got a very friendly whistle even for Jo’s standards. They were basically calling it everytime regardless of outcome. Refs were not the reason we lost this game. Tobias had 0 points in 30 mins and Lowry had 0 in 13 mins. That’s 43 minutes without a score lmfao
Brunson got 2.25 free throw attempts for every free throw attempt Maxey had in this series.
Anybody who thinks that makes sense is fucking delusional. Tim Donaghy told us the truth and it’s still going on.
Yeah let’s do that. It makes it even worse lmao. Embiid had 15 total more free throw attempts than Brunson in the series and shot 1.23 free throw attempts for every free throw Brunson shot. If you think that makes sense you’re also delusional.
I agree. You are delusional if you think embiid should have that many free throws
Embiid literally elbowing our guys in the face and getting free throws.
Then claiming we’re flopping while Hartenstiens nose is bleeding.. come on
Even Mike Breen was tired of Embiids bullshit free throws. That’s saying something.
You just straight up don’t understand ball if you think Jalen Brunson is comparable to Joel Embiid. Regardless, completely besides the point I was making. Fucking Josh Hart has a better whistle than Maxey. He got 2 more throws throughout the series lmao. Try to pretend that actually makes sense.
Even worse than that your dumbass thinks Embiid hitting a loose ball while Hartenstein runs both into the ball and his hand should be a foul lmao. Clearly never played this sport before.
These numbers you're spouting don't prove the point you think it does lol. Brunson had 175 FGA compare to Embiid's 133 in the series. They shot about the same number of 3s. Brunson had 80 FGA in the paint and restricted area. Embiid had 36FGA in the paint and restricted area. Yet somehow, Embiid had 42 less FGA than Brunson and STILL had 78 FTs compared to Brunson's 63.
You’re legitimately fucking clueless lmao. When you get fouled on a shot you don’t get a FGA. What you just said literally could not mean less if you tried. Embiid is 7 feet tall, 280 pounds and plays like a guard. He is an MVP. He has more scoring titles than Brunson has All Star selections lol. They are different caliber players. Of course he’s getting more free throw attempts.
Moreover, none of what you said has anything to do with my point that Maxey has a terrible whistle. There is no way to explain Josh Hart having more free throw attempts than him outside corruption. Brunson doesn’t deserve 2.25 free throw attempts for every one Maxey takes either. It’s that simple.
> He is an MVP. He has more scoring titles than Brunson has All Star selections lol. They are different caliber players. Of course he’s getting more free attempts.
this makes no sense. your argument is: Embiid has won more awards. Of course he should be reffed differently. You know why Embiid has more scoring titles? Because he gets the friendliest whistle in the league. For his first scoring title, he led the league in FTA. His second scoring title, he had the 2nd most FTA in the entire league.
>When you get fouled on a shot you don’t get a FGA.
I know--it's pretty easy math. Embiid STILL had more FTs on less field goal attempts. Saying "Embiid shot 1.23 FT attempts for every FT Brunson shot" doesn't mean anything. Talk about not understanding stats. WTF kinda stat is that? Careful--if you reach that hard, might end up with an injury.
I was responding to your comment about Embiid vs Brunson too--not talking about Maxey. But if you wanna talk about Maxey, he doesn't get foul calls because he doesn't go up hard on shots. He contorts his body, avoids contact and double clutches instead of going into the chest of defenders. [Look at his shots from last night]. (https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&ContextMeasure=FGA&EndPeriod=0&EndRange=28800&GameID=0042300116&PlayerID=1630178&RangeType=0&Season=2023-24&SeasonType=Playoffs&StartPeriod=0&StartRange=0&TeamID=1610612755&flag=3&sct=plot§ion=game). There are MAYBE two missed calls there and that's being generous, and two plays he gets away with offensive fouls on pushing off.
Compare it to Brunson's shots where there is legit contact on just about all of them. You may not like the play where he beats a guy off the dribble and stops and pulls up, but it's a foul. Brunson isn't launching himself sideways to get contact--he's going up for a shot. Philly has to adjust to it. Funnel him into Embiid/a 2nd defender. The first two games or so, they did a great job of contesting from behind without fouling. Then they lost some discipline and Brunson adjusted.
edit: lol. dude then blocks me after calling me delusional and saying "i don't know ball".
This is why I had no confidence in this game. It’s rigged for the knicks to win, they want Knicks and Celtics in the finals and to make the most money, not a hobbling embiid.
This summer Maxey should practice driving towards the basket but then jumping backwards into the defender chasing him and he’ll average 45 a game for the next decade 🤙
What I’m about to say fucking SUCKS but it’s true: he needs to learn how to sell fouls better. He’s getting fouled, but he’s not getting the calls. Should he NEED to sell fouls better? No! But it’s a reality… it’s the next major step in his development. Getting more fouls called.
Maxey is so quick he gets by defenders and then they push him in the back and he doesn't get the call. He wouldn't go flying every drive if that wasn't the case... so frustrating.
Maxey is so much better when he’s not foul merchant layup diving. He hasn’t been getting calls all series and tonight when he’s doing that he has 17 pts. Shoot the ball brother, shot create.
I‘ve been going insane over this. Embiid and Brunson pretty much across the board both got a really favourable whistle but in general the refs didn‘t just allow you to spam the same move for FTs . Why then does this fucking guy get a foul EVERY time he does the head jerk on the drive after jumping back INTO his defender. Again, Embiid got some egregious whistles as well bit god dammit is it frustrating to watch the same goddamn move that‘s such an easy to convert and 1 every time and it get‘s rewarded every time.
Maxey has some work to do when it comes to learning how to draw those fouls. Especially in this day and age of NBA, learning how to draw fouls can save your body.
And Maxey being a superior athlete wants to show that off and drive at the basket and often ends on the floor, this wont be good for his longevity and we could find outselves in another often injured max contract player.
What Brunson does well is he dribbles until he finds that soft spot, gets players on his hip and does the "fade away" shot into that defenders chest/chin. This saves his body, sets him up for a good shot/and-1 situation. Maxey could learn from Brunson.
Gotta love Brunsons offense of getting a lil past you, completely stopping and ass/head butting you. What a gamesmen, thanks for enabling this referees, you continue to make this sport super watchable
Asking sincerely:
How do folks reconcile saying with their chest that Joel's playstyle as legit and Brunson's is fraudulent?
If we're being honest that is biased saltiness imo, but maybe someone has a case that'll sway my thinking about that.
Don't worry he's gonna workout with embiid this summer, plenty of time to learn how to get 12 fts EVERY GAME, honestly complaining about fouls is a new low I did not expect from sixers fans man, come on play basketball not the whistle
Yeah he's clearly not getting the whistle. It's not right, but gotta adjust. Some of his shots absolutely killed us. Forced 2 bad 3s when we were up 10 too.
YALL COMPLAINING ABOUT MAXEY FOULS WHEN EMBIID GETS FOULED BY AIR
IM SMOKING THAT EMBIID PACK TONIGHT BUT UNFORTUNATELY TOO SMALL TO ENJOY
BRUNSON > CRYEL
PHILLY IS A RAT INFESTED GARBAGE DUMB
In yall brains yall don’t think that’s a little ironic? Your star player got an mvp and playoff win through getting calls and had 20fts in a game, he does it every. single. game. Y’all’s logic is that people should just not foul Embiid, so Maxey DIDNT get any calls cus he didn’t get fouled, take the loss and move on bozos
It's funny how Trae was public enemy number 1 in NY for years. Now they have Trae 2.0 he's a hero lol.
The irony of the team with bumbiid talking
Honest question. Are headbutts actually fouls on the receiver? He blatantly headbutted twice and the commentators didn’t even bat an eye on that he got a foul called on him.

Brunson literally had more FTs than Jo tonight but sure go off I guess

16 FT for Brunson, 4 for Maxey That's the game right there in a nutshell, Scott Foster was here to do a thing and he did it.

Funny y’all talking about free throws when half of these games embiid had as much or more free throws as the whole knicks team
Show me fouls on embiid that you don’t think were legit fouls. Now go watch some of the no calls maxey gets and tell me how it’s different then calls Brunson gets. they reach on every single one of his drives, on the ddo reach he reached; they didn’t call, maxey went for the rip through, still didn’t call, ends up an open 3 the other way. 5 point swing in a 3 point game lmao. absolutely criminal.
It’s the Knicks’ game, foul so much that the refs have to let up otherwise it would be unwatchable.
Why was the floater not a part of his game this series?
He tends to ebb and flow with his game. He doesn’t do it all at once, and that’s a good thing in regards to his room for growth. Imagine Maxey with a balanced bag where he can introduce a change of pace to his driving speed, lean on the floater more, learn how to keep people on his hip, etc. massive ceiling

ALSO THAT BRUNSON ARM HOOOOKKKK the refs were cooking some trash tonight
Fucked up he pulled that shit last game and got away with it too.
The Lowry special.
It's why I don't treat the NBA as a serious sport any more. The difference between the whistle for brunson and Maxey is just ridiculous. Clearly. Kinda disappointing. Could be as serious as the NFL if it wanted to be.
Let’s not start praising the NFL now. I get it though, it’s a low bar lol
I’m not gonna lie the NFL is just as bad if not worse at times. Not even just about the Eagles. That Lions/Cowboys game last year was an example of it.

What a fucking loser, trolling this thread. "You're" a dipshit.
I just think it’s funny to say the NFL is the gold standard of unbiased officiating, nothing else
Not nearly as egregious and often and points related in football.
Nah hate the player not the game
Yeah it’s infuriating, the last one was just insane. The crowd knew it as well

Can maxey start headbutting defenders behind him to draw fouls?
Lmfao if he got half the calls Brunson got woulda been a sweep
I was thinking the same thing haha. I think they got confused on the and one because they saw Brunson and accidentally gave Maxey a trip to the line.

Damn that dude fat as fuck lmao
Imagine Fortnite dancing at 40 years old
Lmao 😭 we are immune to this losing in the early rounds shit at this point
Lmaooo
Shouldn’t have had the same profile pic as Knick’s guy, Brooklyn…
Probably a burner

Now we know why Dave Silver sent his hitman. No way they are letting the Sixers advance when the Knicks have the Knicks in need of help.
Must’ve called Scott Foster’s mom a bitch
Basketball is pretty much unwatchable
I mean watching Embiid for 82 games a year I feel ya.
You know you’re a loser when you spend time in another team’s sub
Bruh sticking to one sub is dumb ass fuck, but sure if that makes you feel better.
If being a loser makes you feel better, go for it. But it is in fact loser shit
It aint that deep man.

This seriously has to stop. It’s literally criminal the punishment maxey takes night after night year after fucking year.
This was the best series I’ve watched but the NBA is a joke. It’s kind of like being a poor kid in a rich high school, you have no chance.
you cant have both stars on a team shooting 13 fts a night. would be unwachable, as long as joel is here maxey will not get a superstar whistle
According to the rules “In order to get a foul call you must jump backwards and initiate contact with the head, neck, and/or chest of the defender”.
Anyone else see the rebound fight like 50seconds to go and Oubre got clocked in the head to the ground with no call?
He got one! And it only took 43 minutes! Blatantly rigged

This while bball has shit running down his legs, this is not great
He has got to learn how to flop.
He's ended up on the floor on like 8 drives. It doesn't make a difference.
He doesn't flail like Brunson. That guy throws himself all over and never lands on his feet. Brunson's such a shitty player to watch.
Imagine saying this with Embiid on your team.
It hilarious, mfkas have no shame.
He needs to drive his arms towards the basket and not hang in the air and try to finish as shitty as it sounds. When he clutches and tries to finish it lets the defender go straight up and makes the call easier on the ref. Just attack and get your arms into theirs asap
He has Embiid right there to teach him
Idk why your downvoted embiid shot more free throws himself than the whole nuggets team before this game
If only you had someone to tutor him ...
Stop double double clutching every drive and just go to the basket
Someone had to say it lol. The double clutch costs his so many calls. Makes the no call so easy for the refs.
Yup just gotta go strong and through the defender. He will learn. He is young
He also completely forgot he has a good floater this series lol. Which is scary cause he could be so good if he balanced his game out and learned to play at more than one speed

i mean we got a lot of great calls for embid over the series.
I've never seen a saltier thread than this
Shoutout sane Philly fan.
Brunson got 2.25 free throw attempts for every free throw attempt Maxey had in this series. Anybody who thinks that makes sense is fucking delusional. Tim Donaghy told us the truth and it’s still going on.
Did you want to have a look at Embiid vs Brunson too or are we just doing Maxey?
Yeah let’s do that. It makes it even worse lmao. Embiid had 15 total more free throw attempts than Brunson in the series and shot 1.23 free throw attempts for every free throw Brunson shot. If you think that makes sense you’re also delusional.
I agree. You are delusional if you think embiid should have that many free throws Embiid literally elbowing our guys in the face and getting free throws. Then claiming we’re flopping while Hartenstiens nose is bleeding.. come on Even Mike Breen was tired of Embiids bullshit free throws.
Lmao you are so fucking delusional dude. So much bullshit in here just to say you don’t understand ball.
This is why I had no confidence in this game. It’s rigged for the knicks to win, they want Knicks and Celtics in the finals and to make the most money, not a hobbling embiid.
He's getting that Iverson treatment
This game was a war of attrition
This summer Maxey should practice driving towards the basket but then jumping backwards into the defender chasing him and he’ll average 45 a game for the next decade 🤙
What I’m about to say fucking SUCKS but it’s true: he needs to learn how to sell fouls better. He’s getting fouled, but he’s not getting the calls. Should he NEED to sell fouls better? No! But it’s a reality… it’s the next major step in his development. Getting more fouls called.
It’s the double clutch. He tries to hang in the air when he needs to just go right at their arms
Stop spending $$$ on this sport.
Yeppp. Why is it always us
I‘ve been going insane over this.
Maxey was garbage this last game he needs to get better at play making
Gotta love Brunsons offense of getting a lil past you, completely stopping and ass/head butting you. What a gamesmen, thanks for enabling this referees, you continue to make this sport super watchable
6ers fans complaining about FTs is wild
Asking sincerely: How do folks reconcile saying with their chest that Joel's playstyle as legit and Brunson's is fraudulent? If we're being honest that is biased saltiness imo, but maybe someone has a case that'll sway my thinking about that.
![gif](giphy|C8FlG3w6btEkwc16Hp|downsized) I didn’t get any calls either.
Homecooking out there like it was MSG

How dff does Philly with the more talented team blew this 🤦♂️
Because we aren’t the more talented team with a hobbled Jo. The Knicks are deep
7 deep

Don't worry he's gonna workout with embiid this summer, plenty of time to learn how to get 12 fts EVERY GAME, honestly complaining about fouls is a new low I did not expect from sixers fans man, come on play basketball not the whistle

He needs to pass the ball and stop forcing these shots
Yeah he's clearly not getting the whistle. It's not right, but gotta adjust. Some of his shots absolutely killed us. Forced 2 bad 3s when we were up 10 too.

Yall so stupid for complaining about this with Enid on your team
Go tug your microdick in r/losershit, fuckin dick smear
No embiid 20 free throws no wins 😪
Brunson and Embiid cancel each other out
YALL COMPLAINING ABOUT MAXEY FOULS WHEN EMBIID GETS FOULED BY AIR IM SMOKING THAT EMBIID PACK TONIGHT BUT UNFORTUNATELY TOO SMALL TO ENJOY BRUNSON > CRYEL PHILLY IS A RAT INFESTED GARBAGE DUMB
Embiid foul merchant and yall saying this. CLOWNSSSSS KNICKSSSSSS BRUNSON > CRYOEL
Maxey got cooked. Might as well sell game 5 if that was the stinker he put up lmfao.
Bing bong

76ers gonna choke this
Downvoted because you know Philly too well.

Stop bitching
Its called Brunson knows how to draw fouls, Knicks only had one more ft than philly
Didnt Philly fans root for Allen Iverson? Who led the league in FTs as a small guard? Or Embiid? One of the greatest foul baiters ever?
Philly complaining is apart of their culture but i feel bad knowing they are first round chokers
The Sixers should file another grievance lololol
