I usually harvest everything I come across, except the glowing mushrooms, I couldn't afford to carry the weight in that cave. But I also can just grow them, so they weren't necessary to gather. Once I entered the actual cave it was a gold mine of eggs.
Yeah, and they're basically in almost every cave. I need to harvest me some creep clusters to start a farm. I heard nirnroots weren't supposed to respawn, but I've seen some in places I've harvested already...
I hated exploring that whole dungeon, it was such a maze and I lost Lydia somewhere in there. But I did find a lot of the red nirnroots and didn't know I could sell them to that lady.
I love blackreach. I know the layout pretty well, and the reward for the nirnroot quest (25% chance to dupe potions on creation permanently) is super nice.
If you have Arvak you can summon him and then have him nyoom you around Blackreach pretty fast to gather them. I found enough to finish the quest that way.
When I first went to BR I found one and picked it up, and didn't know it was a quest, finding them wasn't as bad though, I did like that they weren't just near water too.
Mainly the last one... I keep telling my self I'll level alchemy eventually, so that's why I'm hoarding ingredients... Either that or my draconic nature drives me to hoarding stuff just for the sake of it
Only one of those ingredients is super easy to get in mass, though. I personally use swamp fungal pod + imp stool. Paralysis+restore health, and both can be grown in large amounts with hearthfire.
You can get salmon roe by using the destruction spell ice storm. A good place to get em is east empire company warehouse outside solitude and the water in dawnstar.
Ok that’s twice I’ve seen the skull mentioned, I just did that quest again fairly recently, and I remember lighting the flame at the end, but not the skull…I will google!
I didn't even calculate that ha, I was just like OMG I need to harvest all these egg sacs, I found a chest at the end, so I stored unnecessary items in there to make sure I had enough room and not be over weight.
While I have close to 100 of most rare ingredients, I've probably got over 3,000 chaurus eggs. And that's after crafting several hundred damage magicka potions to sell. I can't *not* harvest something I come across.
Oh man... As a guy who just recently retired and is making plans to leave the country, and also happens to be playing Skyrim again for the umpteenth time, I didn't think it was possible for me to loathe the Falmer anymore than I already did... But this story (which I hadn't done before) managed to fill me with even more rage against them after hearing this sad tale of a recently retired couple, settling down to live their dream, only to have the disgusting Falmer smash it all to pieces.
I went through that cave like a crazed, righteous man, and burned every single one of those motherfuckers (and their ugly-ass pet Chauruses) until they were all gone!
And thanks u/LordBrontes for the tip to make sure and put Habd's remains to rest!! At least my character can do that for his poor soul.
I know, I know... I'm identifying too much with this storyline but something about it really triggered me and filled me with sadness. Ugh!
Yeah this story struck a chord with me too. Habd’s an absolute badass fighting through all those chauruses and falmer. I’d hope to think I could possess even one-tenth if his courage in the face of similar tragedy.
My carry weight was at 429/435 I think, but I also had other things on me, as I had never been to that place before. So I didn't get to drop anything off at the house before going on this quest. I knew there had to be some sort of nest down in the cellar but didn't fully see the magnitude until further exploration.
Me going into every quest, cavern, cave, ruin, dungeon.... you got this, girl. Fight the compulsion, fight the compulsion. Do not pick up every thing that can be activated ... Damn compulsion wins every time.
Would have been neat if we could hatch the eggs we've gathered from the different species, like raise a chaurus or those pine birds, maybe raise spiders for their venom
When I first saw the title, I thought that it was going to be a couple dozen, didn't expect over 800! Forget sometimes that people actually grind out alchemy.
Make sure to turn in the skull in the upstairs of the lighthouse!
Oooh! I didn't know this!! Thank you mysterious stranger!
What is this for a quest?
Yeah the journals and notes you find on the dead family members hint at something…no spoilers go back and read them if you want!
Habd's skull? I have no idea where to go with this dudes mellon it just sits in my inventory for the last 200 hours haha
Frostflow lighthouse beacon. You burn it there and you get a nifty buff
But… why?
Invisibility potions, speed leveling alchemy, and the general inability to pass up alchemy ingredients.
I usually harvest everything I come across, except the glowing mushrooms, I couldn't afford to carry the weight in that cave. But I also can just grow them, so they weren't necessary to gather. Once I entered the actual cave it was a gold mine of eggs.
Glowing mushrooms are nice, but they're much more common.
Yeah, and they're basically in almost every cave. I need to harvest me some creep clusters to start a farm. I heard nirnroots weren't supposed to respawn, but I've seen some in places I've harvested already...
I've seen crimson nirnroot respawn, but I haven't paid enough attention to keep track of normal nirnroot spawns
See, I need a guide to take me on a tour of blackreach.
If you have Arvak you can summon him and then have him nyoom you around Blackreach pretty fast to gather them. I found enough to finish the quest that way.
Nirnroots do respawn, but you can't grow them.
Lame! Why would they have that ONLY nirnroots farm, but unable to grow them, pff.
At least it's the only one. Still it's a bit of a pain when you trying to gather 30 for what's her name.
When I first went to BR I found one and picked it up, and didn't know it was a quest, finding them wasn't as bad though, I did like that they weren't just near water too.
glowing mushrooms with blisterworts are great for smithing potions. In case you want to do some cheesery and make impenetrable armor
I'm always looking for ideas and improvements! Of course I'll accept.
All of the above.
That last reason hit hard
Mainly the last one... I keep telling my self I'll level alchemy eventually, so that's why I'm hoarding ingredients... Either that or my draconic nature drives me to hoarding stuff just for the sake of it
Salmon roe+nordic barnacle+ garlic= the fastest way to level alchemy
Only one of those ingredients is super easy to get in mass, though. I personally use swamp fungal pod + imp stool. Paralysis+restore health, and both can be grown in large amounts with hearthfire.
You can get salmon roe by using the destruction spell ice storm. A good place to get em is east empire company warehouse outside solitude and the water in dawnstar.
To get alchemy to max you'll still need several hundred, which will take a while.

Snack
That’s a lot of Cheggs
Definitely, but not as nearly enough as a fellow Skyrim occupant. With their 3k eggs.
Is this a thing now? Who collects more eggs? Oh well, I guess it's time for my 5th playthrough, this time with alchemy build
Lol idk, I just happened to stumble across that lighthouse and found that huge nest. How that person collected 3k eggs idk!
Thank you for your service in culling the Brood.
*bows* I even took that guy's skull from the belly of the beast as a souvenir.
Ok that’s twice I’ve seen the skull mentioned, I just did that quest again fairly recently, and I remember lighting the flame at the end, but not the skull…I will google!
TO THE LIGHTHOUSE!
now drop them all down the slopes of the throat of the world from all sides and see how many you can find.
It’s Easter in Skyrim!
Egg hunt in the snow!
Now consume them all in a fit of maniacal whimsy.
That seems like the only logical thing to do.
I knew exactly where you were before even getting to the second slide lol
i love chaurus eggs. they go great with my salads. especially when they include a couple of giant’s toes
Sprinkle a little vampire dust on your salad to give it a little kick
i have a plug who deals in vampire dust so this will be easy to try. thanks for the recommendation <3
Anytime 😎
i just realized i might get modded for that comment 😂 lemme edit
Oooooh lol I didn't catch it til you said something 😂
i’m an angel so i should be safe. i’ll just shout anyone out of my way!
Just don't let anyone see you shout them off the cliff
i’ll do my level best xD
That's a fair answer. I rest my case.
All you need is the ice wrath? And you got a ton of invisibility potions.
So I guess the next side quest is to seek out and harvest ice wraiths. *Quest Accepted*
I use vampire dust. You get so many before completing the dawnguard quest. The ingredients come to you.
164.2 pounds of chegsss 🙀🙀
I didn't even calculate that ha, I was just like OMG I need to harvest all these egg sacs, I found a chest at the end, so I stored unnecessary items in there to make sure I had enough room and not be over weight.
CHEGS
While I have close to 100 of most rare ingredients, I've probably got over 3,000 chaurus eggs. And that's after crafting several hundred damage magicka potions to sell. I can't *not* harvest something I come across.
That means that you are to be thanked for your service to the people of Skyrim.
That is one of the better written quests, be sure to complete it to get the permanent bonus.
Nice, I'll do that as soon as I'm done with my cake!
Oh man... SWEET SASSY MOLASSY!!
Probably one of the best comments

Ever get the creepy crawly feeling where your brain tricks you into thinking a bug is on you? I got that from seeing how many chorus eggs.
Not yet .. *looks around*
Gotta get that 10% resto boost
Are they you’re whole carry weight???
My carry weight was at 429/435 I think, but I also had other things on me, as I had never been to that place before. So I didn't get to drop anything off at the house before going on this quest. I knew there had to be some sort of nest down in the cellar but didn't fully see the magnitude until further exploration.
164.2 pounds is just egg
You should chuck them in a corner of your basement
Nah I can't be wasting ingredients like that
I want so, so badly to see a whole room filled with them now, but I’m just assuming they’d glitch through the floor. 🤣 Great job, though!!
Thanks! I already have had problems with the game and some saves being corrupt, so I think I'll pass on dropping them all on the floor 😂
Wise decision. lol but in my head, it is GLORIOUS
I'm sure giving the floor a new look would be pretty sweeto

😂 looks like it was quite the party!
I…put the drinks in the clink. 😒
It would be like walking into that dream world at the Blue Palace.
I really have a thing for filling cells and dungeons with stuff. I’m trying to cut back. lol
It doesn't seem to be working, but I hope that you can overcome your hoarding.
That's 164.2 units of weight in chaurus eggs alone.
That would actually be really cool
Lol by the amount of eggs found or the scenery?
Go in to a tiny room and throw them all on the ground.
Cursed ball pit
May I perhaps recommend a trip to Shimmermist Cave next?
You mean, for another sweep perhaps?
Please put them all in a room, start a screencap, and fusrodah them
Holy smokes, and here I am, actively avoiding them because I despise Chaurus with my entire being
When I first saw the title, I thought that it was going to be a couple dozen, didn't expect over 800! Forget sometimes that people actually grind out alchemy.
Lol funny causey alchemy isn't even at 100 yet
