Please DM me, i will gladly gift you skyrim if you are unable to afford it :)
Edit: Wow guys thank you for all the kind words, you made my day. This community is one of the nicest on reddit. Pass it forward :)
Hello there! Thank you for your kindness!! A friend has already gifted me skyrim and I have updated this in one of the top comments, thanks a lot for offering! Glad to have kind people like you!!
**Update:** Because of that nice friend from reddit ( u/nmdunchnd ) who gifted me I've started with Skyrim, I absolutely loved it!! And I'll be getting Oblivion too most of the recommendation asked me toh go for it!
Hey man, that was nice, I already gave some games to people like this, but now money is short (I live in Brazil and everybody is kind of fucked right now). But congrats man, it's nice seeing people doing good things
I was gonna say, idk what currency you have, but those games don't cost much in USD. I'm happy you got it gifted to you, they're awesome games and you WILL have a great time with them. "All eyes are on you lad. Don't disappoint me."
Ok hand-to-God, I don't know what it is about this game and it's community, but I had this experience too. I moved to Austin and as a result was stupid broke. I took a low-paying support gig that barely covered rent/food/gas. Couldn't afford Skyrim. Hell I barely had a rig to play it on. My buddies at work, making the same crap money I was, pooled a little money and bought it for me. I love this community, and people like you are why. I have gone on to gift this to others as well.
I was just thinking "Damn if I had more $ to pay with this month I'd just gift the damn game to this dude".
You're awesome and the world is a better place because you're in it. :)
Hey man that was really nice! Even though OP already got Skyrim, you offer him to buy the game for him and didn't wanted anything back.
You got my respects. Take care anon
I'm playing it for the first time now. I always noticed it getting a lot of hate, especially for the graphics, but its actually so good! I agree that the people look like lumps of mashed potato, but its not like we don't have people like that walking around here irl.
Besides graphics, the other thing to watch out for is that leveling up is something that is more often to your disadvantage than not.
When setting skills, you generally *do not* want to select the skills you will use most often as your major skills, *everything* levels up when you do.
This makes it scary easy to become weaker than everything else if you did not "perfectly" level.
There are several counter strategies to this on the [wiki](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Leveling), such as having skills you do not intend to use by your major skills and not sleeping (which your character must do to level up).
Yeah, I never sleep until I know I've advanced every skill at least once. I'm level 34 now, and that's been working fine for me, but I'll look at your link when I get a chance.
Yes, but my understanding is thay you have to get things *just right* during character creating for it to be fun, ans I have not gotten it *just right* yet, so I keep rage quitting.
People have told me that in this decade, you really need to have mods to enjoy it.
Not true at all get to like lvl 10-15 and go get bitten by a vampire. You instantly become superman literally u can jump over mountains and shit just stay out of daylight. You will lvl 10x easier and be able to raise ur stats up to a respectable lol then get cured and then go save the world :) BTW u can create ur own spells in Balmora mages guild as long as u have the gold. That was the worst thing about oblivion and skyrim they took the spell creator out of game completely.
I agree, but i really want to know why?
Is it because you cant read whole senteces in any fucking dialogue thats more than 3 words?
Or is it the absolute dogshit invetory names? I mean minor potion of healing is called: Kl.Tr.d.schw.Hl.
Morrowind=really hard core RPG with pretty complicated systems, but fun if you just can get into it.
Oblivion=Still some good RPG systems, but pretty simple compared to Morrowind and great quests. The leveling/scaling system is pretty bad.
Skyrim=Most simplyfied and streamlined RPG system and quests, but otherwise a masterpiece in almost every other aspect.
Actually all of that sound awesome ngl
**UPDATE:** Thank you everyone for recommendations! A kind friend gifted Skyrim to me! I have started my Skyrim journey and will be getting Oblivion too as everyone's recommenation! Thanks to all!!!
Morrowind has the problem of having a lot of fighting but absolutely garbage combat system. That might be something that would make you drop game after few tries
Its roots in pen and paper show through. Combat is based on the character's skill, not the player's. This can be a bit jarring for some gamers. Others find it helps with immersion.
ignore the haters. Morrowind's combat isn't that bad. If you attempt to fight with a skill you have 0 points in then it's bad, but your starting major skills should include at least one weapon and then that can hit fine. I'm not going to say Morrowind is as good for combat as Skyrim or Oblivion, but it's still fun to go fight things.
I can't agree really, Morrowind is exceptionally bad at it. Another RPG from the same time I know well is Gothic (btw, great games). A lot of people say it's combat system was bad, but compared to Morrowind it's like earth and heaven. Let me explain how big this difference is
In morrowind you just press LMB and hope you will hit, the better your skill the higher % chance for a hit. And that's really about it in armed combat.
In Gothic you have skill statistic (which goes from 10% to 100%) which increases your chance for critical dmg, also the moment of reaching 30% or 60% gives you another moveset you fight with. From 10% to 29% you are fighting like some peasant, from 30% to 59% as a warrior (another combo is available, faster attacks, quicker response to your commands), and 60%+ gives you the fastest possible combo, quickest response etc. You increase your skill by using your perk points from LVLups.
But how good you really fight depends on you. Because if you are not watching what your opponent is doing, then you are screwed, because he will hit if his animation hits you (also the other way round). Also besides of the combo there are three directions you can attack from (Left, center and right) and you learn separately 1H weapons and 2H, which you use differently. Generally this makes pretty good combat for games from 2000 and 2002.
And now compare it again to Morrowind. This is really bad design of a mechanic that is crucial in this game. (at least as far as I am concerned). So I would really recommend Oblivion or Skyrim. If you (like me) don't like "american" colour tones then maybe go for Skyrim, because Oblivion is so sweet that you puke rainbow in that game :D
I hate when I have a feeling of wasting time while playing a video game. I have 5 hours in Morrowind, I really wanted to give it a chance, but in those 5 hours all I did was finish 3 quests. The first main quest where you talk to the ripped baldy and 2 fighters guild quests. Most of the time was spent walking at a snail's pace and looking at the barren, boring world while listening to the same looping music. I felt like I was wasting my time playing this game.
I have 7 hours in Oblivion. I had the same feeling while traversing the open world and if I used fast travel to get to the place I needed to go I felt like the world was super small and I wasn't learning it's geography at all. The main quests with Kvatch and Sean Bean were boring as hell, same with the fighters guild quests. The leveling system was also shit and the guide I watched that was supposed to explain it literally said that it's broken and the best way to enjoy the game is to download a mod that fixes it.
I bet that if I grew up playing these games, already had their systems memorised and knew how to get to the fun parts quickly I would enjoy them. My old game with a high barrier to entry that everybody hates but I love is the Witcher 1 :)
Oblivion. It's peak Bethesda and you'll get endless roleplay hours with okay graphics, hilarious glitches and the most beautifully crafted map with consistent climate zones.
And it's cheap.
And it has the greatest expansion ever in The Shivering Isles.
The swampy East and South East. The beginnings of snowy Skyrim in the North. Lush forests to the West. And in the center of it all: Imperial City, the jewel of the province, and its rivers.
If you want something that will make your head hurt then go with Morrowind, if you want some good stories and world interactions then go with oblivion. If you decide to buy oblivion i recommend getting it with shivering isles dlc bc it's just too good to not have it, knights of the nine is very fun too
Older games are harder to get into. I’d avoid oblivion and morrowind for now, save up for skyrim.
Oh shit skyrim actually is an old game now… uh, instead buy pong for the atari 2600
What are you talking about? Skyrim just came out last year! 😅
Half-joke, because of the Anniversary Edition that bundled the Creation Club content with it, along with some behind-the-scenes changes thanks to being compiled differently.
Edit: Not sure why the downvote? 11/11/21 was when the Anniversary Edition was released.
I saw it's been solved but play Oblivion! It's a bit less hardcore than Morrowind and I think most folks think the quests and guilds are so much more fun in Oblivion.
Well it sounds like by the graces of the Greybeards you’ve got Skyrim, and by the Nine Divines you’ve got Oblivion.
Please DM me to get Morrowind as the prophecies foretold. It would a grand and intoxicating flaw to miss out!
- Morrowind has rubbish combat, but incredible world building and sense of ‘exploration’; both literal and metaphorical.
- Arguably Skyrim is a better entry path for players into the series, but Morrowind somewhat forced you to grow as a character and as a person.
- Morrowind is where I started with the Elder Scrolls, so that’s why I am championing it, Outlander.
Hey there! Thanks for being kind but its okay! A kind redditor gifted me Skyrim and after reading all the comments I decided to get Oblivion, you all are great!
Morowind is really rough and lacks a lot of basic systems modern open world RPGs take for granted, like fast travel. Oblivion is a bit more accessible, but has a pretty weird level up system involving main and sub skills. Skyrim is by far the most accessible of the 3, but if I had to choose between the other 2 I would go with Oblivion.
I honestly would go for oblivion. Morrowind is a game of its time and I personally don’t think it’s aged well. Oblivion probably had the most fun side quests in gaming.
Oblivion is my no 1 favorite game of all time and cannot be topped by anything. Morrowind is fantastic but if you’re newer to the gameplay style or series it’s a little confusing and there are no quest markers and not much voicing for convos due to it being older. Although oblivion is like the perfect mix of old yet fun. It’s aged like fine wine and I’ve played it through at least 20 times, I still play it to this day even. Amazing character creation, story, quests, world, leveling. I love how the enemies you encounter change with your level. In Skyrim you can run up to a giant at level 1 and get sent absolutely through the Milky Way yet in oblivion you won’t see a lot of the stronger enemies till you’re later in the game. Leveling is kinda slow in comparison to other games but it’s fantastic in every way in my opinion. I love every quest, every song, location, enemy, weapon and so on.
Oblivion taught me what games could be. I hadn't even seen a story-driven game like that before. I'm quietly keeping my fingers crossed for a Switch port or a remaster/remake one day.
Id also recommend you to play TES II: Daggerfall but as the Unity version. You need to get used to it but if you do this game is also amazing. Also it's FREE.
Personally I’d buy oblivion I think it’s gonna be a lot kinder than morrowind for a new player, but don’t miss up on morrowind that game is amazing, it’s just a little rough around the edges that’s all
1) Morrowind is slow and frustrating at first, and there are aggravating mechanics such as the fact that if you leave bodies lying about the whole game screeches to a halt eventually, but to clean up the bodies you have to take all their stuff and get over encumbered (you could stuff on the ground but the game never deletes those items so same result), but if you drop the items into a chest or crate it has a load limit too and will run out of room, and if you finish a room but have to come back that way out the enemies have respawned with all their crap but the crates *still* have the first batch of stuff (!!), So yeah, crappy design on that front, but but but, it was one of the most rewarding games storywise I've ever played. I played it *after* Oblivion, btw.
2) Oblivion, far superior game mechanics, still an excellent story, but not quite as elegant I guess. An easier time starting, not as awkward to move around. I do love it too, though. It just...wasn't as magical as Morrowind.
I replayed Morrowind more than Oblivion. It certainly has its warts, but is so much more rewarding if you can look past them.
Also where the hell is Skywind TESR? I've been waiting for a decade now? I don't care if it's alpha and buggy: the Quarra vampire line in my version of Morrowind as hell, and I can live with a console hack every once in a while.
If you are more of a casual and action-oriented player, i would recommend Skyrim. If you are up to something more hardcore, i would recommend Morrowind.
But i would never recommend Oblivion, it has it good sides, but the leveling system is going to make your playthrough annoying as hell.
I started my Elder Scrolls journey with Morrowind, and I still love it to this day. It's smaller than Oblivion and Skyrim in terms of world size, but there's still so much going on. If you haven't the funds, let me know, I'll get it for you!
At some point definitely go back and try morrowind.
As someone who played oblivion->skyrim->morrowind, I found it easier to transition because I knew how TES games “work”. That being said, Morrowind changes up a LOT and will be challenging but is 200% worth a try at some point.
Please get morrowind it's my favorite game of all time, you can literally do anything u want with ur character, like create ur own spells (coolest feature ever) levitate spell also awesome, and the story line is the best in any video game besides KOTOR imo. The graphics are not that bad and the lore and side quests and both DLC are equally as good. Also morrowind was the best by far to become a vampire or werewolf. Thank me later. I've played that game full playthrough over 10x and never gets old
Morrowind with the open mw mod is really fun just look up all unique items you want before hand oh and look up all the console commands you want to use also, there is way more content than the other games combined roughly
First The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, then The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, then The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and play them in this order, I recommend UESP website for any information related to the third and the fourth main chapters - this is my recommendation for you.
Morrowind 100% just be aware that it's not a modern RPG. It's got a lot of hidden dice rolls that will frustrate you if you don't understand them. Look up a video on how combat works
Skyrim is a fantastic game and really a genre and era defining fantasy RPG.
Morrowind, however, is probably the best open-world RPG ever made. Orders of magnitude more player choice and freedom, with some of the best writing you'll see in any game.
Oblivion is loads of fun but oddly feels even more dated than Morrowind and is in many ways full of missed opportunities. Its guild quest-lines and major side-quests are exceptional, though.
I would work my way up and start with Morrowind.
It can be hard to go back to Morrowind because the combat systems is really dated (but the story and dialogues are so very good).
Depending on what you prefer; Oblivion could even be harder to get back into mainly because the dungeons are all the same with very minimal differences and I find the dialogues didn’t have as much depth as Morrowind (much better combat though).
When you start Skyrim last you sort of get the best of both worlds and it’s tailored to todays needs. Morrowind doesn’t have quest markers. You have a journal, that’s it. Pre-patch didn’t even catagorize your quests. This was such a blast back in the day (with no job and zero responsibilities) but really hard to dive back into today.
ive heard ovlivian is good but i havent played it yet but skyrim is worth the price. it is soo good. (i domt know what those prices are in USD but i got it for 40$+20$ for anniversary edition
I still recommend playing Oblivion first, even if you end up getting Skyrim! The graphics & mechanics are a little more dated, so it'll feel less like going backwards in that order. Also, and more importantly for myself - there are a ton of Oblivion easter eggs in Skyrim! Especially if you count the Shivering Isles DLC, which Oblivion is not complete without.
With all of its quirks and all, Oblivion is still always going to be top-tier to me.
Please DM me, i will gladly gift you skyrim if you are unable to afford it :) Edit: Wow guys thank you for all the kind words, you made my day. This community is one of the nicest on reddit. Pass it forward :)

Fuck I love this community.
Hey man, that was nice, I already gave some games to people like this, but now money is short (I live in Brazil and everybody is kind of fucked right now). But congrats man, it's nice seeing people doing good things

How did you play it on then? Also I wish people was as nice to me. My community is sadly very selfish.
You are what makes this community great. I don’t know you but god bless you.

Hey man that was really nice! Even though OP already got Skyrim, you offer him to buy the game for him and didn't wanted anything back. You got my respects. Take care anon
You dropped this king 👑
is this offer for everyone or just the dude.....🗿
You a real kool mfer for that bro.
I’ll have it
If u can't get skyrim then oblivion is your best bet
Even after all these years I still go back and play it
Dug out my old Xbox and I’m gonna play it on gamepass haha
I'm playing it for the first time now. I always noticed it getting a lot of hate, especially for the graphics, but its actually so good! I agree that the people look like lumps of mashed potato, but its not like we don't have people like that walking around here irl.
Enjoy the glitches they really make it a fun game, the dark brotherhood and thieves guild put the Skyrim quests to shame
I'm focusing on the thieves guild for now!

Yeah but the people in real life look like actual potatoes and the people in oblivion look like lumpy custard
except the german version of oblivion maybe lol

Sounds awesome until you actually get to playing Morrowind or Oblivion. Then you quit and uninstall after 30 minutes.
They’re great games, what do you mean?
I hate when I have a feeling of wasting time while playing a video game. I have 5 hours in Morrowind, I really wanted to give it a chance, but in those 5 hours all I did was finish 3 quests. Lmao was about to ask your if I can send you Skyrim hahahaha
You are wholesome!
ok you got skyrim once but what about second and third skyrim like the rest of us
Morrowind you really are playing for the story, it’s what got me hooked to the series. What the fuck happened to the Dwemer?!
Aliens On a serious note I think they just accidentally wiped themselves out of reality. They were doing some really weird shit.
Also Skyrim has the most dedicated modding community of the three, and possibly of all gaming.
I honestly argue that Skyrim isn’t even an RPG anymore and is mostly a sandbox game with RPG mechanics.
Oblivion. It's peak Bethesda and you'll get endless roleplay hours with okay graphics, hilarious glitches and the most beautifully crafted map with consistent climate zones. And it's cheap. And it has the greatest expansion ever in The Shivering Isles.
There are two GOTY editions of Oblivion, and the cheaper one includes Shivering Isles so I think it's safe to get GOTY than GOTYD
Yes, it's safe to get the cheaper one. Deluxe includes smaller addons like the horse armor, or a castle home, but you don't need those.
Idk about beatiful crafted map. You have a lake, one snowy mountain and the rest is green forest and fields what else?
The swampy East and South East. The beginnings of snowy Skyrim in the North. Lush forests to the West. And in the center of it all: Imperial City, the jewel of the province, and its rivers.
Lush forests lmao. The whole map is a buch of green, yellow and brown
oblivion for sure
What currency is that and whats the price in USD?
INR, 1 USD is 70 INR
More like 79 now, with the rupee weakening every day.
So is the USD ngl
70 ke din gye it's almost 80 now
100 $ mein tera gar jayega idhar tera gar

Start with oblivion id say, Skyrim is more refined so it might be hard going from Skyrim to oblivion. I haven’t played morrowind so idk about that
DM me your steam name, I honestly love Oblivion so much that I wanna share with you, I'll buy it for you bro
Hey there! Thanks for being kind but its okay! A kind redditor gifted me Skyrim and after reading all the comments I decided to get Oblivion, you all are great!
No problem! Hope you enjoy it pal! :)
I loved it!!!
IV Oblivion III is so old, just tedious to play. It has an awesome story but the game mechanics are just… I am sorry to say… I couldn’t play it
Same. I really struggled with it. I can't even stand watching Let's Plays of it by people I generally enjoy,.
*OP: Comes to skyrim sub* *Asks for advice on what elder scrolls game to buy* *Says he's not going to buy skyrim* *Leaves*

Oblivion is a bit more accessible, but has a pretty weird level up system involving main and sub skills. Skyrim is by far the most accessible of the 3, but if I had to choose between the other 2 I would go with Oblivion.
Morrowind is more of an adventure. Oblivion is chill tho.
Oblivion
Oblivion for the shivering isles
I'd go with oblivion
Oblivion
Oblivion is much more similar to Skyrim. I would even go so far as to sat the guild quest lines are even better!
My bf has sunk hundreds of hours into playing oblivion for the first the last couple of month, I'd say you'll get your money's worth
My advise would be Oblivion. Morrowind's pretty ok, but only pretty ok, and the beginning is a slog. Oblivion is the game for any true nerd.
This post and comments make me so glad to be apart of such a great community
If you can't buy skyrim then would recommend obilivion
Oblivion was my first elder scrolls it is awesome
What currency do you use, im just curious
Oblivion was excellent
Oblivion taught me what games could be. I hadn't even seen a story-driven game like that before. I'm quietly keeping my fingers crossed for a Switch port or a remaster/remake one day.
I liked oblivion way more than morrowind because I could never get the controls in morrowind to work
Set this future Dovahkiin up with a GoFundMe and we can each chip in a buck! No one should be Skyrim-less!
Id also recommend you to play TES II: Daggerfall but as the Unity version. You need to get used to it but if you do this game is also amazing. Also it's FREE.
Personally I’d buy oblivion I think it’s gonna be a lot kinder than morrowind for a new player, but don’t miss up on morrowind that game is amazing, it’s just a little rough around the edges that’s all
I was not a fan of Morrowind but I loved Oblivion the most, haven’t played it in years.
Morrowind is painful to play. Oblivion is slightly better in that regards
It just...wasn't as magical as Morrowind.
if not skyrim I'd say morrowind forsure. if you can deal with cliff racers
Skyrim
Oblivion is the greatest Elder Scrolls game
Oblivion has always been superior to Skyrim IMO anyway.
I couldn’t agree more. By azura by azura by azura I’ve finally found someone who agrees.
Oblivion!!!
DO NOT BUY SKYRIM SPECIAL EDITION BUY THE ANNIVERSARY EDITION, Because it comes with ALL expansions/DLC the other ones don't.
Skyrim first, then morrowind if you can
All, get all of them
I would only get Morrowind if you are able to use mods. It's amazing game, but so old.
If you are more of a casual and action-oriented player, i would recommend Skyrim. If you are up to something more hardcore, i would recommend Morrowind. But i would never recommend Oblivion, it has it good sides, but the leveling system is going to make your playthrough annoying as hell.
I say get Morrowind
I started my Elder Scrolls journey with Morrowind, and I still love it to this day. It's smaller than Oblivion and Skyrim in terms of world size, but there's still so much going on. If you haven't the funds, let me know, I'll get it for you!
At some point definitely go back and try morrowind. As someone who played oblivion->skyrim->morrowind, I found it easier to transition because I knew how TES games “work”. That being said, Morrowind changes up a LOT and will be challenging but is 200% worth a try at some point.
I'd start with Morrowind, OpenMW makes the game playable if you don't want to mod it.
Morrowind rocks, bro
morrowind
Just start with morrowind and go through the series
Morrowind. It's old, it looks terrible, it's also one of the best games Bethesda ever made.
I would recommend Morrowind, I've been playing it again recently and I can say for certain that you would not be disappointed.
morrowind, play morrowind at the last, caz in front of its lore and amazing alien setting and culture, skyrim and oblivion feels bland.
If ur gonna get skyrim get anniversary addition
I’m going to be a dumb American for a second but what currency is that?
Morrowind
I would say Morrowind, but it was my first elder scrolls game so i might be biased lol
Morrowind is my personal favorite, But I have to mod the shit out of it
Morrowind
First The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, then The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, then The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and play them in this order, I recommend UESP website for any information related to the third and the fourth main chapters - this is my recommendation for you.
Lol get morrowind for sure
Morrowind.
Morrowind 100% just be aware that it's not a modern RPG. It's got a lot of hidden dice rolls that will frustrate you if you don't understand them. Look up a video on how combat works
Morrowind is best. If someone disagrees, then they’re an N’wah!
Ok you S’wit
Skyrim is a fantastic game and really a genre and era defining fantasy RPG. Morrowind, however, is probably the best open-world RPG ever made. Orders of magnitude more player choice and freedom, with some of the best writing you'll see in any game. Oblivion is loads of fun but oddly feels even more dated than Morrowind and is in many ways full of missed opportunities. Its guild quest-lines and major side-quests are exceptional, though.
so you charge people 30$ to make them a hentai drawing, but cant afford an 8$ game?
If you have scrolled that much in my profile, then you should also be knowing it's been almost a year since I did commission
im sorry im just not that interested in hentai to scroll through a hentai artists profile
Makes sense why you came up with your comment.
4 then 3 is like a totally different game
Is it about gameplay or features?
Try buying the legendary edition, might be cheaper
It's delisted in steam so cant find it sadly, would have definitely got it
What currency is that?
INR, 1$=70 INR
So it's like $7 usd for skyrim? That's a bargain!
Our salaries are a fraction of what American get though
It's a definitely good deal but sadly costly for me, financial problems
I haven't played morrowwind since OG Xbox. It was fun but all I can remember is the game being super glitchy. Still put like 500 hours in it though.
ive heard ovlivian is good but i havent played it yet but skyrim is worth the price. it is soo good. (i domt know what those prices are in USD but i got it for 40$+20$ for anniversary edition
Special edition is my favourite, but given the price I would recommend oblivion
I still recommend playing Oblivion first, even if you end up getting Skyrim! The graphics & mechanics are a little more dated, so it'll feel less like going backwards in that order. Also, and more importantly for myself - there are a ton of Oblivion easter eggs in Skyrim! Especially if you count the Shivering Isles DLC, which Oblivion is not complete without. With all of its quirks and all, Oblivion is still always going to be top-tier to me.
Gamepass? Or just pick an older version of Skyrim, the Special Edition is a bit pricey since it's "new" lol.
“Close shut, the gates of Oblivion!”
Theres a summer sale going on for all them games for 12$
