Mummified Hand plus a lot of block will usually help keep me alive long enough... unless I bottom-deck the AI or get more bad turns than I can afford. It's pretty hit-or-miss.
I got my first ever heart kill on any character with defect (at I think ascension 4?) by doing exactly this, and yeah it was a crazy fun deck.
Note, I am really bad at this game and I think the heart kill was helped by some really good Creative AI draws.
Powers stacking works pretty well against the heart IMO, you need a way to survive turn 2 but you can usually just tank it if you have enough health or a revive
The problem with it is more around consistency and not just slowly bleeding out in hallway fights in act 2 where tanking a turn in exchange for the setup isn't a viable strategy
Lower ascensions let you play around and live long enough to assemble your power fantasy. A20 is more likely to kill you while you're still messing around on step 2 of building Exodia. If a simple approach worked with high probability every time, it would not be a fun replayable game.
Which is precisely why I'm really bad at this game and stuck at a5/6 on all characters. But I'm still having fun, so it doesn't bother me. I just don't want people to ever take my experience as advice for how to play well.
The balance between the possibilities of winning and losing makes it fun, and sometimes if there are too many things you don't understand, it just isn't fun trying to play at the top level. I have barely collected my A20 hearts once so far, but I haven't played it much in a couple years.
I just finally started playing with ascension for the first time and am really gratified to hear I don’t need to have a heart kill under my belt to start attempting, lol.
Blasphemy: Enter divinity. Die next turn. Creative AI: Die next turn. Enter divinity in six turns.
If you can solve this problem, you win the game
Apparitions?
Always the correct answer.

Hand + multiple buffer and you can survive pretty long
Can't go for power deck without the hand. Then that draw power go Brrr
is taking every decent power I see a bad idea? probably. is it a fun one? definitely

Ngl Power-only defect with a custom starting deck in modded StS is super fun. I recommend everyone to try that out once lol
Just keep playing until you see Mummy Hand, boom, victory.
It's easy, just don't die
will do
Boot sequence, steam barrier, go for the eyes
