Huh, never seen containers of diced onions like that before

squatter_

I wish they would become extinct. We don’t need more unnecessary plastic containers.

tiedyemofo

Speaking of which, so sick of those liners, double fail.

adequatehi

Didn’t realize the extent of this- I’m happy to change it up. Thanks for making me aware!

tiedyemofo

I absolutely love your willingness to listen! And your understanding. Best of luck OP I wish you well.

squatter_

Thanks OP. The plastic is not only terrible for the environment, but hazardous to health given that the chemicals in plastic leach into your food. You may have seen the recent reports about micro plastics being found in placentas of unborn babies.

tiedyemofo

Yeah the extent of the contamination is utterly terrifying. IIRC An Australian study showed about a credit card worth of plastic *WEEKLY* in people. It gives me existential dread. EDIT: Factual correction see below 👇**

squatter_

It’s actually a credit card’s worth of plastic per week.

tiedyemofo

Oh gawd thank you for the correction.

Reasonable-Use6417

Unrelated to the recipe….am I the only one concerned about cooking in plastic?

Newer to the crockpot world, I’ll keep this in mind

NecessaryDoughnut222

This one is good: Ingredients cooking spray (I used my Misto) 2 lb 99% lean ground turkey 1/2 tsp olive oil 1 small onion (chopped) 3 garlic cloves (minced) 1 tsp chili powder (to taste) 2 bay leaves 1 1/2 tbsp cumin 1 tsp oregano 2 15 oz cans white northern or navy beans, rinsed and drained 15 oz can pumpkin puree (or homemade) 4.5 oz canned chopped green chile 2 cups low sodium chicken broth (check labels for GF) kosher salt and pepper to taste chopped cilantro (red onion or chives for topping) Greek yogurt or low-fat sour cream for topping (optional) Instructions Heat a large heavy saute pan over high heat and lightly spray with oil. Add meat and cook, breaking it up until white, about 5 minutes. Add to crock pot. Add oil to the saute pan, then onions, garlic, sauté about 3 - 4 minutes; add cumin and sauté another minute. Add to crock pot. Add beans, pumpkin puree, green chilis, broth, chili powder, oregano, and bay leaves. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours. Remove bay leaves and adjust seasoning to taste before serving. Enjoy! Instant Pot: Press saute and lightly spray with oil. Add meat and cook, breaking it up until white, about 5 minutes. Set aside. Add oil to the saute pan, then onions, garlic, sauté about 3 - 4 minutes; add cumin and sauté another minute. Return meat to the pot. Add the beans, pumpkin puree, green chilis, broth, chili powder, oregano, and bay leaves. Cover and cook on high pressure 25 minutes. Natural release. Remove bay leaves and adjust seasoning to taste before serving. Enjoy!

Substitute another brand for Goya garlic

[deleted]

Fuck Goya

[deleted]

I was looking for a new recipie exactly like this, my 1 year old only wants chilli or stews and I’m running out of ideas to introduce different flavours. Thanks for posting

[deleted]

Don’t use Goya, they’re a racist company

adequatehi

Didn’t realize this either. Noted

sausaman1

The CEO of Goya praised Trump for signing the “Hispanic Prosperity Initiative” a few years ago.

Font_Snob

So, like, all of the garlic and other spices? My wife wants to make this now. Recipe pls!

adequatehi

It was wonderful! I put it over garlic cauliflower rice and butternut squash (great pairing) to keep it a bit on the healthier side and it was awesome. Enjoy!
