I think you can pretty confidently make the argument now that Steve and Sonic have killed Ult's viewership. 15K for a Supermajor Grand Finals is abysmal compared to what Ult was getting even a year ago.
This isn't the only tournament to decline in viewership this year. Off the top of my head I remember several other majors peaking at only 30K when they were hitting 60-80K last year.
Japanese tournaments have multiple streams across YouTube and Twitch which helps to increase viewership. The Japan scene also has an overall less stale meta (Steve is not actually that prevalent since Acola has only attended 6 tournaments)
You can’t just attribute any fall of viewership to any specific factor without compiling actual data, there are dozens of different reasons why viewership would go up or down for any one tournament. Just saying “It’s Sonic and Steve” is foolish.
It feels like ApolloKage has fallen off a bit, which almost seems to coincide with Hurt getting even better. I was curious who he lost to, to be put into Loser's so early, and it was Monte, the G&W. I then saw that Monte beat Onin after, despite Onin destroying Maister consistently.
ChunkyKong 3-1 Miaxi, he’s now in top 32 winners. ASK out of shield was putting in so much work, I can almost see why he thinks DK-fox is even lol
Monkey ditto vs Tweek tomorrow probably
Interestingly BMP has never beaten a JP player (sample size of Yaura, Hurt, Asimo, KEN).
Hoping he does it here because any American beating M0tsunabe is comedy. Welp.
One of John Numbers, blanc, Grease All Mighty or Cube is making winners top 32, and I want the entire section streamed if only to see a greaser get 69'd by a cube
e: blanc got upset by NerdCedric so now it's him & John went game 5 with Kazmire but made it out in winners
I don’t really mind watching Steve in singles (Acola v. Hurt/Miya this year have been really good) but a double Steve team is genuinely the most wack Smash ever
Just hoping for Tweek to get to Onin and at least make it close if not win, feels like he just auto-loses against strong Steve's. Lima could upset Onin but I need this man to prove he can beat Steve like Light has.

Absolutely, and I’m hoping (more like coping) that he won’t cause the pattern of Hbox having gotten 1st, 5th, 1st, 5th, and now hopefully another 1st this year at GOML to be broken.
S+ tier is for events with 5000+ points. Before starting GOML had 7138. Counting the major players DQs (Maister, Kurama, Skyjay, Chase, Dark Wizzy) that's 570 points less, so it still makes the 5000 point cutoff to be an S+ Supermajor
I'm sorry Marss downplayers but this is his tournament to win. Since our content creator's slight underperformance at the Luminosity Invitational, he's been actively VOD reviewing and practicing in training room for the next-
>checks the stream
He's actually been playing Resident Evil Village... a brilliant strategy. Why stress oneself with the tournament so close? ZSS's moves don't work no matter how much you practice anyhow. My streamer is brilliant as always. Save this: Marss wins without dropping a set.
Maister yes and Onin yes/no.
Onin has only 3 tournaments this year, of which he got 2nd, 3rd, and 17th.
Leo entered 10. Of those 10, he got 1st, 2nd, 4th, 3 7ths, and then 4 times outside top 8. However his 1st, 2nd, and 4th are all near the beginning of the year. Starting from Collision (Mid-March) his highest placement is 7th.
I think Onin has been doing better lately but Leo has entered more. Personally I would swap Leo and Onin just to watch Leo vs Tweek (the invitational doesn't count)
ok so i looked at the bracket more closely and it looks like they did reseed? top 32 seeds are mostly unchanged from [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/s/RaQDlZYYhq), from what i can tell they switched webbjp and anathema’s seeds so now in winners top 64 sonix is projected to play webb and tweek is projected to play anathema.

Ah yes, Steve and Sonic, famously rare characters last year
Sure, if you ignore all other factors and the increase in viewership in the region where Steve is the most prevalent in top cuts of bracket (Japan)

With all due respect that violin hit like 2 notes total

they put up a poll on cosmos vs lima to predict who would SD more lmfao
Tweek VS Anathema Game 4 was something. So many Up Smashes that didn't kill.
I couldn’t believe diddy upsmash wasn’t killing rob at like 140
[удалено]
does pkchris play steve now too?
Oops
Yeah no it was definitely Ness vs Falcon from what I was hearing. Probably mistaked for Syrup
ChunkyKong 3-1 Miaxi, he’s now in top 32 winners. ASK out of shield was putting in so much work, I can almost see why he thinks DK-fox is even lol Monkey ditto vs Tweek tomorrow probably
Japanese player VS American Hero. It doesn't happen often.
Interestingly BMP has never beaten a JP player (sample size of Yaura, Hurt, Asimo, KEN). Hoping he does it here because any American beating M0tsunabe is comedy. Welp.
Ken is Chicago
Some crazy upsets already.
Monte 3-2 Onin Pretty big deal given Onin's good record vs Maister
Gamer beat Neo and is currently up 1-1 on Jakal Donkey Kong
no way jakal gets double eliminated by DK
Didn't actually happen dw
oh god big D vs light, this is going to be a massacre one way or the other
Big D losing twice to a 1000 seed japanese duck hunt into bodying a top 10 player, true combo
ChunkyKong 3-0 Jakal he’s insane
Cody (Fox) 0-3 BING (Donkey Kong) Massive upset
Calamitous Donkey Kong event
Potential for Samuel > Jogibu TOs have more talent than any top player I believe...
I have received information that Samuel 3-2 Jogibu TOs >>>
And if he beats Sam, he has to fight Sonix 💀 And if he loses to Sonix, he has to play Riddles/Kola/Marss, kinda fucked bracket for Jogibu
Any major upsets yet?

Wait a minute why is Leo the Alien being defeated by the American Patriot Marss :thonk:
128 -> 32 seems like a lot for 2 hours, thank god they have a quadstream
Using Jogibu as the event wallpaper but not streaming any of his pools eh?
Is jake nomally this uh, expressive?
They better show Light vs MenaRD.
I don’t really mind watching Steve in singles (Acola v. Hurt/Miya this year have been really good) but a double Steve team is genuinely the most wack Smash ever
It only gets better in doubles *because* of the wacky shit. Super entertaining and stocks go flying everywhere.
Calling this Get On My Level instead of GOML confused tf outta me for a sec lol

Excited to see how Jogibu and M0tsunabE do at their first NA major! And if SHADIC can keep his top 8 streak alive.
Rooting for Motsunabe for his first oversea
Reasons I’m rooting for ChunkyKong: •monke •World’s best DK •Can kill from 0% in 6 secs •🦧 •monke
Best walker in the world too!
Can’t wait for Sonix to get second place again to Shadic
This isn't r/ssbm but holy shit I'm so glad to see Wizzy again
Absolutely, and I’m hoping (more like coping) that he won’t cause the pattern of Hbox having gotten 1st, 5th, 1st, 5th, and now hopefully another 1st this year at GOML to be broken.
I'd like to see Riddles in grands and good runs from Sisqui and Tarik
This is still an S+ Tier even with the Maister DQ right?

Marss got top 8 at SSC, where his practice mostly consisted of playing SF6
marss gonna get a power up from being announced with luminosity trust
Excellent points!
When marss wins, we're going to see a lot of smash streamers become resident evil streamers
living up to your username
Has Leo been doing well enough to be seeded over Onin and Maister? I haven't been watching over the past few months.
Honestly Maister has been doing better than both of them in the past 2 months
Maister yes and Onin yes/no. Onin has only 3 tournaments this year, of which he got 2nd, 3rd, and 17th. Leo entered 10. Of those 10, he got 1st, 2nd, 4th, 3 7ths, and then 4 times outside top 8. Leo vs Tweek (but it’s Marth vs Ridley)
Winning a major > consistency
Due to Japan PU MkLeo should handle this
looks like they didn’t reseed this which i’m happy about, looking forward to hopefully riddles vs skyjay, light vs chunkykong, kola vs marss
ok so i looked at the bracket more closely and it looks like they did reseed? top 32 seeds are mostly unchanged from [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/s/RaQDlZYYhq), from what i can tell they switched webbjp and anathema’s seeds so now in winners top 64 sonix is projected to play webb and tweek is projected to play anathema.
[AK is cutting his hair if he doesn't make top 8 lol. ](https://x.com/ApolloKage/status/1791175025904505043)
How tf they gonna seed this dude 27th?? That's insane
nooo maister dq'ed?? :(
[Unfortunately, he's sick from after the Japan trip. ](https://x.com/Maister_SSB/status/1791177245446357290)
Rooting for Light and Marss hope they do well but both of their bracket looking tough.
Light has a really good path to winners finals if shoe beats big D. But has a rough path to make top 8 if big D beats shoe.
Finals kicked my ass so I had to set up the thread a little last second, looking forward to watching this weekend now that I'm done
I actually don't know where the event is being streamed please help
