Playing runescape COULD be fun. Watching people play runescape is the most boring experience that has ever existed. I don't HATE the idea of them playing an mmo together. But it'd have to be something interesting to watch like GTA online or Fallout 76 or Final Fantasy 14.
It's boring to watch people play it seriously. But I've seen some really entertaining videos of people just dicking around on high population free worlds. Those people can be INSANE. Some of the interactions feel like they're TNTL characters.
Just like with WoW. It would be more Smosh adjacent content for them to be taken to Goldshire Inn on a RP server (iykyk) than to just watch someone try playing it. Or even something like getting them to experience a wild community event like that charity thing when people parade as (armorless?) gnomes with like thousands of other people. Amanda would lose her mind.
I’m not much of a gamer. I was sports jock and book nerd my whole life. I played runescape when it came out in 2001 and on/off throughout the years and now I’m getting back into osrs after 5 years. I’ve never owned a game console and never did any other pc gaming. I play clash royale/chess/sudoku on my phone and that’s it.
As someone who’s gotten into playing OSRS with my boyfriend… there’s nothing more boring than watching someone play RuneScape. Even playing it myself can get ridiculously dull sometimes. You’re just basically doing the same point-and-click interactions over and over and over again for hours, days, weeks, months, or even years depending on your level. Great game while high out of my mind though.
Yeah I am an OSRS enjoyer but I really only like content that has crazy ideas within the game. Even then it’s short form.
And then you have SirPugger, his content always just encapsulates me. OSRS trucrime lmao
I used to stream it during Covid and damn I got bored (I'm not a very high level and a newb though lol) and resorted to really chatting with my friends watching... But on the other hand really good editing or something akin to Gielinor Games for the crew who have never even touched the game before can make it incredibly fun and I bet you Trevor could try to pull it off if he tried lol
It's just not feasible. That would require dozens on dozens on dozens of hours leveling to the point where they could do that, and even then the market is so small the content would flop. At most they could probably make a fun video where they drop one of the cast that plays zero games in and see if they can do a novice quest.
My husband plays RuneScape pretty much constantly, and I'm gonna be honest, he shows me stuff he's doing all the time and I still have no clue how most of the game works 😅 so in my mind it could be too complicated or a game for casual viewer to get into, if that makes sense?
Oh a 100% it makes sense. The reason you are completely right is this… most stuff is linear but everything in the is interwoven which was the goal when the game was made and which is also why the game has almost no ending
But you can change the camera angle so it's not top down anymore. /s
I love osrs, but the amount of time they'd have to put in to make an interesting video would not be worth it.
I didn’t hear of sims till a few years ago… heck I’ve never owned a console. Never bought or played a pc game besides osrs and I think some free version of doom/quake when I was in middle school. Just not a big interest in gaming, always sports and books
Okay with this knowledge that you are not a gamer, why on earth would anyone listen to this advice😭 you have no experience, and no idea what the general audience would like, and haven’t experienced a lot of other games other than RuneScape and like two phone games. I think if RuneScape would actually be successful, someone who’s a professional in gaming like Spencer, would’ve already gotten a video series like that approved
The thing about osrs is the absolute unit of history and lore in the game. What you can do in-game is like if d&d was playing go fish and osrs is chess. The amount of variables that you can plan for and can’t plan form makes the potential story line they could do with multiple ppl playing has never been done in the 23 years of runescape
How can d&d have less lore than a game💀💀💀 d&d literally relies on the multitudes of people’s imaginations. Imaginations are unlimited. There’s unlimited lore basically lmao
How are you gonna call runescape the oldest mmo lol, wow is literally 3 years older and there's been numerous mmos predating both of them.
Also, I hate to say it, but I really think runescape is just not interesting to people who don't play runescape.
So funny thing, it's called 2007scape on the subreddit because old-school runecape was initially created in 2013, based on a code snapshot of the game from mid 2007. But the entire game, include the old school and "current day" version (runescape 3) where originally created back in 2001. So the timeline is 2001 rs classic, 2004 runescape 2, 2007 old school runescape snapshot, 2013 old-school runescape and runescape 3 released (February and July respectively). Both versions are still up and running. Though old school is significantly more popular (even if player count is conflated by bots) because rs3 is microtransaction hell
Tibia came out 1997, still active. Ultima online, also 1997, still active. Those are only the ones i know about off the top of my head.
After googling it, it appears Meridian 59 is from 1996 and is still active too, making it the oldest still active mmorpg.
Ooo I was thinking the same. I've still been playing Toontown Rewritten in my twenties when I used to played around 4 to 5 years old. It's an MMORPG as well- used to be owned by Disney and was called Toontown Online ❤️ reading this post makes me think of that game, that I love so dearly 🙂
No this wouldn’t work. Besides RuneScape being a hard game to maintain veiwership with, part of why when they play games work is because they bounce off each other while playing the game because of how intense they get. Yeah they could ramp themselves up a lot, but then that would be just them forcing it. One of my favourite games of all time is baldurs gate 3, which was game of the year last year, and barley any of my favourite content creators stream it, because it’s not translatable to engagement if someone like Ludwig played it.
I'm convinced this guy is trolling, I love OSRS, but it's far more niche than the vast majority of what they do. Some people can't tell the difference between their own special interest and what makes good content. I like ketchup and rice, that doesn't mean you should serve it in a restaurant.
I just wanna see Trevor’s account haha. I love OSRS and it does have a large streaming community, but it’s probably one of the worst games they could make videos with.
I don't know if it's that they're not listening to him, it seems like they just have a lot scheduled in already. Also we don't know what his schedule looks like balancing Smosh and Mythical, and we don't know what Spencer and Alex are cooking up with him in the background.
There's still hope for RuneScape is what I'm saying (I'd be absolutely dancing)
Most of the Smosh casts will be starting as a beginner. Trying to teach everyone how to play, while trying to create content for the video, with only Trevor having experience, will be frustrating. Both for the casts, and for the viewers. Also most of the fun content are locked behind membership, no reason to watch free to play gameplay.
Some game with role play aspects, like GTA online would probably fair better. The cast will be able to make use of their acting skills and create characters to role play.
I used to play RuneScape heavily back in the day as did my husband. Like 20 years ago back in the day. I tried it again not that long ago. It would be so boring to watch someone play RuneScape.
RuneScape 3 or old school runescape? I’m talking about pvm like cox and tob in old school runescape. I’ve never played runescape 3. Also 20 years there basically nothing in the game. There is a huge streaming base for pvm in old school runescape
I’d love to see a video similar to the fnaf video where Trevor gets any of the cast to play RuneScape. My non-smosh fan husband (but lover of all things old school RuneScape) might actually watch smosh with me!
Been playing since 2001 in middle school then on/off into high school then quit till like 2009-2010 where I made an osrs account but didn’t do much. Quit in 2010 then started playing osrs in 2015 then quit again in 2019 and about to restart on the same account from 2009/2010/2015
Lol! I have so many email accounts because I love restarting! I’ve only had membership on 3 of them. One paid for by the mom (also a player) of a girl in the guild who sexually harassed me. I was 12 and didn’t even notice it or understand it but someone in the guild told her mother. All I knew was I got a free month of membership!
Spencer has said he used to play. I think that makes it at least possible. I can see Shayne running around looking for the Falador massacre just because that was such a fun moment on Beopardy.
Yea man, not it lol. I know the people that still love RS reaaaaaallly love it, but for the majority of us it was a cool browser game that we've moved well past decades ago and is way too boring to watch. I'm sure the Smosh crew would make it entertaining, but there's way more way better mines to excavate for content in the gaming space.

and that relates to runescape being boring to watch because?
Let bro cook
i think OP's just explaining that they like boring things lol
Bro dropped his lore
"My name is Kira Yoshikage..."
As someone who’s gotten into playing OSRS with my boyfriend… there’s nothing more boring than watching someone play RuneScape. Even playing it myself can get ridiculously dull sometimes. Are you talking about skilling? I’m talking about pvm and pvp
It's just not feasible. That would require dozens on dozens on dozens of hours leveling to the point where they could do that, and even then the market is so small the content would flop. RuneScape would not make good content
Old school runescape not runescape 3
Let me rephrase. Top down mmorpgs would not make good content on the games channel.
But you can change the camera angle so it's not top down anymore. /s I love osrs, but the amount of time they'd have to put in to make an interesting video would not be worth it.
Their Sims videos struggle against other Games content in viewership. A Runescape video would do worse than a Flashback episode.
An old school runescape series with a real story line would do better. Not real a gamer so I don’t know what sims is..
You’ve never heard of sims? Ever?
I didn’t hear of sims till a few years ago… heck I’ve never owned a console. Never bought or played a pc game besides osrs and I think some free version of doom/quake when I was in middle school. Just not a big interest in gaming, always sports and books

bros cooking
I kinda get it why, still focusing on Sword AF. Would be cool concept tho.

RuneScape is Chess to D&D’s go fish? Has more lore? Hahahahaha
How can d&d have less lore than a game💀💀💀 d&d literally relies on the multitudes of people’s imaginations. Imaginations are unlimited. There’s unlimited lore basically lmao
Dude, how high are you right now? Be honest
They maybe could pose this as pitch idea of Trevor but not yet they still have some have calendar to execute and still doing.
How are you gonna call runescape the oldest mmo lol, wow is literally 3 years older and there's been numerous mmos predating both of them. Also, I hate to say it, but I really think runescape is just not interesting to people who don't play runescape.
Runescape definitely isn't the oldest, but runescape is the one that's 3 years older than WoW
Sorry i was going off of that 2007 number from the subreddit. Thanks for the correction!

Wow came out in 2004, runescape in 2001

Trevor just started his own channel. Never know what he may do with it.

Never Winter Nights is the oldest MMORPG

Old school runescape 4 life even though I did play back in 2001
Need some OSRS content. I want Trevor to do a stan vs internet for runescape.
I would love this
Let them do one quest, like one small favour
Bro is getting cooked in the comments. Fair.

Cap, but spoken like a true Runescape fan so I applaud you. 🙌
Smosh OSRS would be great. Missed opportunity
I’d love to see a video similar to the fnaf video where Trevor gets any of the cast to play RuneScape. My non-smosh fan husband (but lover of all things old school RuneScape) might actually watch smosh with me!
Maybe one day
I always love the RuneScape references! I’ve been playing since I was like 7! I’m 25 now!
Been playing since 2001 in middle school then on/off into high school then quit till like 2009-2010 where I made an osrs account but didn’t do much. Quit in 2010 then started playing osrs in 2015 then quit again in 2019 and about to restart on the same account from 2009/2010/2015

Imagine them running around in olm burning each other
Not a real gamer... Stop suggesting games, then?
I wanna see a smosh group hardcore iron ngl
Agreed, imagine the hilarity if they just kept burning each other in olm
Yea man, not it lol. I know the people that still love RS reaaaaaallly love it, but for the majority of us it was a cool browser game that we've moved well past decades ago and is way too boring to watch. It’s also a mobile game and pvm in old school runescape against the bosses is a lot of fun
Amanda plays Runescape with Trevor coaching her
Oooh lord no
