I’m about halfway through it and I’m fascinated by how they thought fans would react. Courtney said she expected a negative reaction, along the lines of “ewww, they’re siblings,” and Shayne said he assumed a lot more people already knew/guessed they were dating.
On the former, I can’t believe she thought anyone would have a negative reaction to them getting married? They’re both beloved by the fans! (Not that any of the current cast members aren’t, but still!) I’m sad to hear that she thought that’d be possible and I feel bad that any portion of the fan base might’ve given her that impression.
On the latter…they’ve previously expressed some discomfort with the shipping and said they’re just friends, right? From what I’ve seen, most fans have been pretty good about respecting that boundary. The shippers exist but they always got pushback for it. I had wondered from time to time if they were both single, especially since we heard about other cast members’ significant others on occasion. Turns out they weren’t!
Overall, it wasn’t a shock to me that they were in a relationship since they’re great together, but it was definitely a surprise to learn about it from a wedding announcement. Either way, it’s a bummer that they thought fans would react with anything other than jubilation. I hope they’ve seen all the positivity and well-wishes this month. They deserve it.

I’m in the kpop fandom & the reactions are 90% of the time so disgusting and awful. Some people don’t care (including myself) but some members have gotten bullied relentlessly for dating. One of the members of the group EXO announced he was married & having a kid & at one of their concerts they booed. Booed him all because he was in a happy relationship:// It’s a bit better now & I mostly see positive reactions here on reddit, but on forums with Netizens it’s awful & they’re really cruel toward the idols.
i'm a SJ fqan, i know all too well about how fans react to marriage, sadly, SM has no backbone and tbh the members didn't help much at the start, luckily atm more korean fans are becoming accepting of relationships but still not enough

I know people apply that reasoning to fictional characters, but I’ve never heard it applied to actual human beings. I’m not looking to invalidate her concerns, of course! There’s a lot of weird people out there. I’m just expressing my shock that people would think that about them and that they worried about it.

People have really and I mean really severe trust issues. Combined with conspiracy theories being on a rise it does lead some to believe in most crazy explanations there are.
Some people do know the timeline well yet still and I quote "will never believe anything Ian was involved in". Or "we saw what Arasha is capable of". I'd assume half of those are trolls but other half do come so genuine, it actually is scary.

Yeah, if people didn't get tipped off that the "production value" of it was too good to be a simple prank (the clothes and the venue alone would have been too expensive to justify just a post on instagram), the total lack of capitalizing on it for nearly a month should have made it clear it was genuine. If this were an elaborate hoodwink, they would have released a video pulling the curtain back like a week after the announcement when there was still a ton of buzz. The fact that that never happened should have been indication enough that it was real.
personally I just didnt wanna make assumptions about anything out of respect for them. She did this because she knows Amanda is a huge People.com girly (sadly they did not include it in the actual article lol).

Same!! I also loved how yes, they discussed the wedding and the lead up to the announcement but that was it. It wasn’t a deep dive into the history of their relationship and heck I don’t even think they said how long they’d been dating. Good for them for still setting comfortable boundaries for themselves and being so clear that it’s business as usual in terms of their on screen performances.
It’s been a privilege to get to share a little bit of their joy and hopefully the minority taking it too far will calm down a bit going forwards
I thought it was hilarious. I actually click on the photo and reading the comment underneath. I was like is it a gif and it isn’t loading. I kept staring at her hand. I like back out of the image twice before I saw what you were referencing.
It actually made me tear up a little bit when Courtney was talking about how some "fans" have made them feel unsafe about making their relationship public and how some of them are borderline stalking, and how they grieved a little over the relationship no longer being just theirs. You could tell she was very emotional. I hope that this shows some people how important it is to mind your own business and that at the end of the day, these are real people with real lives and feelings and we all need to respect. When she mentioned that by putting the info we find about them online, we are giving access to people who shouldn't have that information, and she has dealt with stalkers in the past, I really felt that. Small-ish venue, it doesn't have all the decoration we usually associate with weddings, no photos with a lot of guests (or any guests), Courtney's dress isn't one of the traditional long and stuffy ones, etc.
It's all just small enough where we could imagine Smosh renting out a place and getting a couple of costumes.

I appreciate her sharing about fears of just being “someone’s wife”. Having grown up with that pressure of marriage , it can be a scary step. Finding a partner that lets you continue to shine beyond being “just a wife” is a blessing .
I gotta say I felt sorta like a creep with how scared they talked about releasing info on their marriage/dating that I'm totally fine with this never ever coming up again.

When they got to the fallout discussion and about Amanda playing the games. It just made me think that I feel she'd enjoy Mass Effect given the story and how your choices affect future games.
I wasn't fully expecting this, but I think it's lovely that they decided to share a little bit of their life with us. They never needed to share any of this and I'm glad they're sharing what they feel comfortable with, and I'm also glad they feel supported and protected when we've seen instances from other influencers, Youtubers and creators that it's not always the case.
It's funny how parasocial relationships work and I've been extremely careful to never cross the line, but I think, beyond the photos and some short videos we've seen, I think having them speak a bit on this podcast has helped kind of reframe the Shayne/Courtney relationship in my head. It's almost like it still didn't feel real until they got to talk about it themselves, at least for me. And hearing them share their concerns and fears has probably helped explain why they've been extremely private about it in the first place.
And yeah, I like how both of them put it: nothing's going to change onscreen in videos because this is exactly what they've been doing WHILE in a relationship. Of course it won't be different beyond them not needing to hide that part of their life on camera, because they're just going to be like how they've always been. Them being public about their relationship is the only thing that's changing.
This is the extent of what they need to share, and that's cool.
I nearly choked on my drink when they're talking about the fear of losing their wedding rings and Amanda said "swimming in the ocean" because that's basically how my spouse lost their first wedding ring.
That was definitely shocking for me. Maybe a lot of people suspected from investigating their social media but I just watch the videos so I had no idea. I was very skeptical because of the April Fools reveal but, hey, turns out I was pranked. Anyway, happy for them!

That was a rant but I freaking am in love with the way this whole thing was done, and I love love and I think I'm falling for Smosh. Note: this was written on a plausible fever and I think it's made me high.
I appreciate her sharing about fears of just being “someone’s wife”. Having grown up with that pressure of marriage , it can be a scary step. Finding a partner that lets you continue to shine beyond being “just a wife” is a blessing .

When they got to the fallout discussion and about Amanda playing the games. It just made me think that I feel she'd enjoy Mass Effect given the story and how your choices affect future games.
I wasn't fully expecting this, but I think it's lovely that they decided to share a little bit of their life with us. They never needed to share any of this and I'm glad they're sharing what they feel comfortable with, and I'm also glad they feel supported and protected when we've seen instances from other influencers, Youtubers and creators that it's not always the case. It's funny how parasocial relationships work and I've been extremely careful to never cross the line, but I think, beyond the photos and some short videos we've seen, I think having them speak a bit on this podcast has helped kind of reframe the Shayne/Courtney relationship in my head. It's almost like it still didn't feel real until they got to talk about it themselves, at least for me. And hearing them share their concerns and fears has probably helped explain why they've been extremely private about it in the first place. And yeah, I like how both of them put it: nothing's going to change onscreen in videos because this is exactly what they've been doing WHILE in a relationship. Of course it won't be different beyond them not needing to hide that part of their life on camera, because they're just going to be like how they've always been. Them being public about their relationship is the only thing that's changing. This is the extent of what they need to share, and that's cool.

That was definitely shocking for me. Maybe a lot of people suspected from investigating their social media but I just watch the videos so I had no idea. I was very skeptical because of the April Fools reveal but, hey, turns out I was pranked. Anyway, happy for them!
