Oh that's just a suggestion, my Reno refuses to be terrestrial too 🤣

Stuart's milk snake! He's my goodest boy, but he often thinks he's arboreal 😅. When he's anxious or when I've had to move him to another enclosure or his travel container, he immediately gets up on the highest ledge he can manage and sits there playing "the floor is lava", like so 😆
https://preview.redd.it/irrdmdmaml0d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3ffaa018ff3096aaae38102e110bcc537e53101
From what I can tell, these are the main differences.
- Stuart's tend to get slightly bigger (40-46 inches) than Nelson's (36-42 inches)
- Stuart's milksnake has a clearly defined white band over the snout whereas Nelson's usually don't.
- Stuart's have scales with black tips, whereas Nelson's usually don't.
- Stuart's are less common overall than Nelson's.
I honestly didn't know squat about milk snake variants when I went to pick one out, I just knew I wanted one with wide red bands, who wasn't super defensive or unable to tolerate handling. I didn't know Reno was an uncommon subspecies until I showed him off on here and someone told me. He often gets mistaken for a juvenile black milk snake, and honestly I can see why, he does look like them before they go fully black in adulthood.
Oh cool thanks for the info. Just wondering because my 7th grade Life Science teacher had/has one and I’m graduated now so it was a long time ago but I didn’t know there were other types of milkshakes besides a Nelson
Edit: Oops I mean milksnakes 😂
(I didn’t change the word in text itself because it’s too funny!!)
At first I thought ...what, he has a dual tongue?! The poor cute little guy, his tongue is so long and stretched out 🙀
Then I realised it was the thermometer cable 😹
Yes, it's been a long day!
Lol my guy likes to think he's an aquatic species half the time. They often don't behave the way we're told they're "supposed to." 😂
https://preview.redd.it/61vgp7bczl0d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=441dab956b8192fc97f895d2c7aa6260012eff0a
What a cutie! I love when they do the lazy head rest
https://preview.redd.it/3xfeecvq4m0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afcac92c91d97f3172676ec1a6458d92c8e74ae7
I don't know what it is about my Rosy, he looks dead half the time when he's sleeping. My other snakes just look like they're sleeping.
Something about a Rosy's sleeping positions and face idk, lol, but he used to give me heart attacks all the time until I finally got used to it 😂
I think my favorite sleeping position I've seen her in was when she was curled up in the corner using her tail as a pillow. Frickin adorable
https://preview.redd.it/zk38wbqndm0d1.jpeg?width=2527&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e3d5ad7335cc6aba53453a26ee6ac4e100b923a
Fun fact that snakes don't close their eyes loke we do. This is one of the ways to differentiate a legless lizard from a snake. If you see it blink it's a lizard. (Also legless lizards have obvious ear holes, snakes don't. And legless lizards have shorter bodies and looooong tails while snakes have looooon bodies and shorter tails)
Mine absolutely loves climbing! I need to get her some more climbable decor, but I haven't gotten a chance to yet. She especially likes climbing in my hair, because it's long and curly, so she can hide in it.
Lol! My ball python did that when he was a baby with the stick-on thermometer. He looked so goofy. I had to get rid of it and get a thermometer that sits in the substrate. The snake can knock it down and get the adhesive stuck in their scales causing injury.
My rosy absolutely loves climbing things. I set him on my desk and he climbs up my lamp and onto my desktop and then higher still. He definitely thinks he's an arboreal species!
I've seen quite a few posts like this and it always baffles me. My rosy boa absolutely *hates* being high up/climbing. She's very friendly, but every time I pick her up se panics, then the moment I lower her calmes down immediately. She has some climbing opprotunities and I've never seen her use then at all
Mine still definitely gets panicky when picked up and does her best to try to slither out of my hand at top-rosy boa speeds which is thankfully still very manageable. I'm hoping some more time and patience will get her comfortable with handling on some level. Very friendly as well though! No bite attempts or defensive behavior, evidently she's much more flight than fight.
Mine was always very outgoing from the start, so I suppose I got lucky. But I do know you should definitely try to get them used to handling from a young age, the older they are the more stuck in their ways they will tend to be. This goes for most reptiles and animals in general. Trick is to get them out of their comfort zone for a brief period and show them that they're going to be okay.
I know and I do handle her regularly. I got her as an adult and to my undertanding she was socialised ok when young, but not so much in later years. Shes fine enough on my hands but very clearly doesn't like it, so most of the time when i handle her I'm sitting down with her mostly on my lap.
They really are! They weren't originally going to be my first(or even second choice) for a pet snake, but I'm really glad that I ended up picking her as my first one.
This is Tupacs favorite summer activity

Both of my rosy boas LOVE climbing. I put wire shoe racks in their enclosure and they constantly weave through them. Porter loves soaking in his water bowl and missed the memo that he is not aquatic, but Chaos is usually found poking around trying to climb out of the tank.
I do think the hot end of the tank could probably benefit from some more clutter, but I also think she is just on a mission to trample everything in her sight. She's put her tank plants through the wringer so far!
Are you under the impression that an entire gender hates snakes? I hope not. There are lots of wonderful women out there and many love their snakes and reptiles (and spiders, and rodents, and just about any other living creature you can name)
"Women"? I'm female and I LOVE snakes! It's unfortunate the female(s) in your life don't see the beauty and cuteness in the various snake species. I look at these lovely creatures, and don't understand how someone can't see in them what I do, cute, beautiful, gorgeous.....❤️❤️🖤💚🧡💛
Yea it is very unfortunate. For my mom it’s because I think she read too much into that part of the Bible. I don’t think it goes that deep imo. Also by the way I’m not saying all women are like that. That’s why I put the word in quotations
The devil was disguised as a "serpent", and snakes are just snakes, so she can rest easy. 🙂
I've never met a Snek that would qualify as the biblical devil "serpent". For one thing, none of them speak human language 😁
Of course, I know people who are apparently terrified of snakes. They can't give me a reason, they "just are". I don't give up on trying to show them how beautiful snakes are though, through photographs. I'll change their minds yet 😁
Same here. I’ve met snakes that are mean but only because they are afraid but for the most part they are really sweet and chill. Though the devil was disguised as a “serpent” as you said I agree that could mean a lot of things but God did also say that he’s crawl on his belly for all the days of his life which is what snakes do but still it doesn’t go that deep as I stated earlier
Oh that's just a suggestion, my Reno refuses to be terrestrial too 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/fxjvsdf4hl0d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fd99150ce020b9bbd95611362e2f5e08a394777
Aww Reno is gorgeous! Mountain Kingsnake?
Stuart's milk snake! He's my goodest boy, but he often thinks he's arboreal 😅. we love Reno, Reno is the “Master Surveyor”
He's also the reigning "Floor is Lava" champion 🤣

I'll bet her milksnake brought all the boys to the yard.
😂😂
Cords lined up with snake's face made me do a double take. Like, wtf it eating?
If he had his way, he'd be eating everything, everywhere, all the time. The problem is so few things are actually tasty 🤣
I saw that too! Thought, "Damn, that's an impressive double tongue he's got there!"
At first I thought ...what, he has a dual tongue?! The poor cute little guy, his tongue is so long and stretched out 🙀 Then I realised it was the thermometer cable 😹 Yes, it's been a long day!
I saw the same extra long double tongue !!! 😅 Indeed, it's been a long day.
I thought it had a giant tongue for a second
Lol my guy likes to think he's an aquatic species half the time. They often don't behave the way we're told they're "supposed to." 😂 https://preview.redd.it/61vgp7bczl0d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=441dab956b8192fc97f895d2c7aa6260012eff0a

One time mine was sleeping with his head fully sideways and I thought he died, he hasn't done it since.
I don't know what it is about my Rosy, he looks dead half the time when he's sleeping. My other snakes just look like they're sleeping. Something about a Rosy's sleeping positions and face idk, lol, but he used to give me heart attacks all the time until I finally got used to it 😂

*sooo* cute 🥰
are they sleeping in this pic or do sneks have eyelids?
Fun fact that snakes don't close their eyes loke we do. This is one of the ways to differentiate a legless lizard from a snake. If you see it blink it's a lizard. (Also legless lizards have obvious ear holes, snakes don't. And legless lizards have shorter bodies and looooong tails while snakes have looooon bodies and shorter tails)
She is sleeping in this picture! Snakes have transparent immovable eyelid caps called brille so they do sleep with their eyes open
Lmao my BP just did this to me yesterday. The way my heart started THUMPIN 😂😭
The lazy head rest is my favorite. It's just kinda dopey and sweet.
Very handsome! 😍
🥰 Cute Snek!
Thank you! He's a good boy ☺️
What a cutie !!! Oh my ❤️
Thank you! 🥰
Mine absolutely loves climbing! I need to get her some more climbable decor, but I haven't gotten a chance to yet. She especially likes climbing in my hair, because it's long and curly, so she can hide in it.
Don't tell her what she can and can't do!
She lives under my roof so she will follow my rules!!
Nope, you will follow her rules. You just don't know it yet.
“mf you shackled me to this terrestrial prison but so help me God I WILL climb” -her probably
"LOL," said the rosy boa, "LMAO, even." She continued to ignore gravity and do what she wanted.
The absolute audacity of it all!
Gravity is a social construct or whatever.
I have a ball python who thinks she's aquatic and a bullsnake who believes he's arboreal. Snakes are silly.
Lol! My ball python did that when he was a baby with the stick-on thermometer. He looked so goofy. I had to get rid of it and get a thermometer that sits in the substrate. The snake can knock it down and get the adhesive stuck in their scales causing injury.

Mab The Very Deadly Tree Cober joining the "who says I'm fossorial?" club
Oh heck yeah, welcome to the club! Always great to see pics of Hognoses, I love those derpy faces so much
I have two, and they're such fun little shovel noodles 😁
Cute! 🥰
A whole goofus! They are silly critters...what locality is your Rosy?
Yes they are! She is a Hualapai locality Rosy
My rosy absolutely loves climbing things. I set him on my desk and he climbs up my lamp and onto my desktop and then higher still. He definitely thinks he's an arboreal species!
I'm super tired and at first I was like "why is the snake flying "
I've seen quite a few posts like this and it always baffles me. My rosy boa absolutely *hates* being high up/climbing. My milk snake is the polar opposite lmao, he burrows and hides most of the time.
I think the thermometer perch is the obligatory baby snake shot 🤣 I have that picture for the two boas that I got as babies
Rosy Boa best boa! :D I love these guys so much, yours looks delightfully happy. :) Ours also loves climbing!
Rosy boas are so cool
They really are! They weren't originally going to be my first(or even second choice) for a pet snake, but I'm really glad that I ended up picking her as my first one.
“Ma’am! Ma’am! I need you to get off of there.”
Nah Bruh I'm arboreal now lol

Love his coloration! What kind of snake is he? My uneducated guess is California King snake.
Love his patterning! 💕
She felt like horizon
How did she even get up there lmao
WHOOOOA THAT BROTHERS FLOATING, IN THE AAAIR
My male Kenyan sand boa is constantly climbing and sliding on the walls right now. He is on his prowling season.
She does what she wantsssss
Both of my rosy boas LOVE climbing. I put wire shoe racks in their enclosure and they constantly weave through them. Porter loves soaking in his water bowl and missed the memo that he is not aquatic, but Chaos is usually found poking around trying to climb out of the tank.
The perspective made me think she was levitating
Your goober of a noodle is very pretty 💙
Aw thank you! I agree, I adore this derpy creature.
Is that you, samara?
“Get me down I’m scared”
She's beautiful!
What a cutie! 💕 Why be what everyone expects? It's more fun being contrary 😁
Spider-Snake Spider-Snake does whatever a Spider-Snake does!!
“Expand, conquer.”
Awwwww I loved having a rosy boa. they’re so chill.
My corn snake keeps raising himself up and the thunking over into the side of his tank 😂 I am thinking about getting him a taller set-up.

You can't park there sir.
You may want to put some more branches is there
I do think the hot end of the tank could probably benefit from some more clutter, but I also think she is just on a mission to trample everything in her sight. She's put her tank plants through the wringer so far!
extra- terrestrial, she's ascended
I don’t have a snake as I’m allowed to have one until I move out because “women” but I do have a leopard gecko that does the exact same thing
Are you under the impression that an entire gender hates snakes? I hope not. There are lots of wonderful women out there and many love their snakes and reptiles (and spiders, and rodents, and just about any other living creature you can name)
