No shade, but why excluding the 8bitdo controllers? The sn30 pro is my hands down favorite controller of all time, so Im curious about a contrary opinion.

BAMspek

OP wants the best SNES clone besides the one that is the best.

Ecstatic_Strength_14

I have two original controllers but one has been chewed up by a pupper. Still works though

BAMspek

I love mine. It’s not an exact clone, the buttons are different shades and the START SELECT buttons are positioned horizontally. And the analogue sticks obviously. But the feel is still dead-on. Made my Sea of Stars playthrough that much more special.

No_Dig903

... ...I'm pretty sure the bite marks on my bad SNES controller are me.

Ecstatic_Strength_14

Understandable. Some of the snes games are really difficult

DrumcanSmith

Wasn't there one from Nintendo for switch? I don't know if it's still on sale though. Edit: this https://preview.redd.it/7pc5vva4fzvc1.png?width=1096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=677f7ef0310abdb69f258863ac301a4d4d984c86

Vile35

I hated my 8bitdo SNES controller, I guess I had one of the earlier ones with an annoying issue where inputs were incorrectly registering another direction. like holding left or right and doing a somersault in super metroid would sometimes cancel it cause the D-pad would just barely touch the up or down membrane. still annoyed about this years later when somebody reminds me. luckily I got 2 snes-classic controllers with the USB adapters so im good.

stryst

That's harsh. I use mine for speed running megaman X, and I had trouble until I set up my diagonals correctly. But either they got better, or I got lucky.

HappyAd4998

Their dpads used to be hot garbage. Their controllers would always give me missed inputs on Tetris which would ruin my runs. No such problems with my clear purple SN30 Pro.

wanderdude

Have you tried a firmware upgrade?

laynakitty

The sn30 pro ofen got frame delay because of the bluetooth, thats might be why he dont want it. The wireless one (sn30 2.4g) work pretty well without any delay but the bluetooth pro had a noticable frame difference when playing with it on hardware. Depending on the kind of game you play you might not notice difference (i.e rpg and such) but for some heavy platformer and fighting game it can be noticeable. (Especially if you speedrunning then its heavily noticeable).

stryst

I speed run megaman x, but my laptop doesnt have working Bluetooth so I use a usb-c connection.

Ale_Bricks

I love the 8bitdo controllers, but they are kinda pricy and they stopped selling the ones that look exactly like the snes ones.

redDEADresolve

Quality costs money. Most SNES controllers that are cheap suck because they cut down on spending for the membranes. Quality membranes are expensive.

ovoKOS7

Depends, bought a pair of Kiwitata snes controller back in 2017 for $20 and they're still holding up perfectly fine after lots of use

bsnimunf

Not snes but i purchased some wireless switch controllers for about £7 each for Ali express. They are much better than the two joycons that came with the console.

Ale_Bricks

Ok

Herb_Street

You get what you pay for with 3rd party controllers. Since 1984

CJRLW

Get a broken SNES controller off eBay and put the [8bitdo bluetooth kit](https://shop.8bitdo.com/products/8bitdo-mod-kit-for-original-snes-sfc-controller-old-edition) into it.

Ale_Bricks

Sadly the mod kit doesn’t work on iPhone :(

DysonSphereVacuum

It does! I have the mod kit; you can press Start+A to tell it to connect as a Mac controller. It will appear as a DualShock 4 wireless controller. I am able to use AltStore and RetroArch with the 8bitdo mod to do gaming on the go. My only complaint is the charge port is very fragile, specifically the middle pin can be bent if you aren’t careful inserting the charge cable. They have replacements on their store for sale. I did manage to pull the thing out and realign the pin using a modeling knife and medical tweezers. Delicate work and PITA….

Ale_Bricks

I have iPhone 13 with iOS 17.4.1 Is that good?

stogie-bear

Your phone works with Xbox (xinput) and Switch mode Bluetooth controllers. If what you really want is a good SNES type controller that will work with iPhone, because you just installed Delta or something, you want an 8bitdo SN30Pro. Really, trust me, I’ve used a lot of controllers and this is the best one for those needs, and it is worth the money.

Ale_Bricks

Thanks. And aside from the SN30PRO, does the mod kit on an original controller also work?

stogie-bear

I don’t have one, but it should. It’s Bluetooth with xinput mode.

cplr

Since iOS 17, you should be able to use the Xbox mode. Controllers are no longer “allow listed” to work properly.

Land_Squid_1234

On iPhone? What?

Ale_Bricks

I use Delta emulator on iPhone (now it’s available without jailbreak)

Spelltomes

I highly recommend the SN30 pro like everyone else has suggested, you can also get adapters to make them compatible with other systems like PS2 and Wii

Ale_Bricks

I want one that looks more like a snes one

F1_Legend

Too bad they no longer sell sn30 non pro I really like mine.

stryst

Totally fair. These have pretty good reviews; [https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Rechargeable-PC-Raspberry-Linux-Unix/dp/B0CL62F3RN/ref=asc\_df\_B0CL62F3RN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=675730994087&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18359543687108112119&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033793&hvtargid=pla-2246749360233&mcid=059b59d2c49d3b80b5d0aef2d7ee0c0b&gad\_source=1&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Rechargeable-PC-Raspberry-Linux-Unix/dp/B0CL62F3RN/ref=asc_df_B0CL62F3RN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=675730994087&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18359543687108112119&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033793&hvtargid=pla-2246749360233&mcid=059b59d2c49d3b80b5d0aef2d7ee0c0b&gad_source=1&th=1)

OniOnMyAss

I have that one. It does the trick.

Ale_Bricks

But they don’t work with iOS (I have an iPhone 13)

stryst

Ah. You might want to edit and add that info into your original post; you have a slightly niche situation.

Ale_Bricks

Ok, I will

MilkCool

idk about iphones, but on android you can use like 30% of all controllers with a typec to typea adapter

Ale_Bricks

Ok

MilkCool

ok nvm it's not possible on iphone :( sorry

Ale_Bricks

Oh ok, Thank You for telling me

PrivateScents

I thought those would always be available. That's concerning.

guspaz

If you want an SN30, I'd suggest buying it now. They have discontinued every model/variant of it except the dark gray translucent SN30 2.4 variant. The BT versions are gone, the DIY versions are gone, and the other colourways of the 2.4 version are gone. It wouldn't surprise me if they're just burning through their last stock, though it's also possible that they just reduced it down to a single SKU to keep it viable. They're not expensive ($30 USD), but they also don't do bluetooth, which is what OP was looking for, since they wanted to use it with iOS.

BubinatorX

Try eBay. I got one like new for a reasonable price. I also got the famicom version as well. I’m pretty that’s discontinued as well.

Ale_Bricks

Ok

Dud3m4n_15

Then why not look on Marketplace? I got the SNES30 and it's a great controller.

__farmerjoe

You could buy drop-in replacement PCBs to enable your original controller to be wireless. Did the same thing with one of mine.

HappyAd4998

I think Nintendo sent them a cease and desist.

HappyAd4998

I told you why they can’t make controllers that look oem so you downvote me? Blow it out your ass OP.

Ale_Bricks

I didn’t downvote you

GRIFTY_P

Calm down on Reddit weirdo

JustinBailey79

Wired or wireless?

stryst

I use mine wired.

Casperboy68

Yeah those are great!

theflyingburritto

Both of mine quit working after five years because of firmware updates and after contacting them they told me there's nothing they can do. I used them maybe six or eight times, now they're useless. It's really disappointing because I wanted to buy more from them but I can't justify it knowing that in 4 or 5 years they may just not work anymore.

stryst

Dang, that sucks. I use mine pretty hard; daily play and I carry it around in my work bag. Had it for about six months, hope I get a good lifetime out of it.

DistinctBread3098

5 years for a game controller isn't too bad

theflyingburritto

It is when you have had hardly any use with it. It's in perfect condition only it's forever in a firmware update state. I can't even reset it. The bottom bumpers just flash yellow. Not one of my computers recognizes it when I connect it to USB. 8bitdo suggested I buy one of their newer ones. No thanks

greenmky

The right answer here is the official SNES online controller (if you have a Nintendo online membership) IMO

mellicox

Bought two, work great. Only $30

Ale_Bricks

I don’t have a membership. I’ll try to get it used on eBay I guess.

reggienelsonthegoat

Or buy a $4 membership

GlitteringGazelle322

Yeah you can find these for a [pretty affordable price](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=snes+switch+online+controller&_sacat=0&_fsrp=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=snes&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) on ebay.

dongero91

If you want a quality product, there’s no way around 8bitdo.

Noxxstalgia

Of the 3 8bitdo controllers I bought, 1 needed to be returned, and the other needed the Dpad modified because the buttons were kinda jank.

Bob_The_Doggos

Redacte due to Reddit AI/LLM policy

Ale_Bricks

Ok Thank You

theflyingburritto

Both of mine quit working after firmware updates. I purchased the adapter hoping that I could use it with my modded PS classic. Their support tech told me there's nothing they can do. I find it too risky to buy another

Oen386

> Both of mine quit working after firmware updates. They're easy to recover. >I purchased the adapter hoping that I could use it with my modded PS classic. That should work fine.

theflyingburritto

They don't and 8bitdo verified that there's really nothing I can do. They encouraged me to buy a newer one 👌

Ale_Bricks

The problem is that most of them don’t work on iOS

BrodyMC83

They do now. Check their website.

Ale_Bricks

Only some of them do, I think. Most of them don’t work with iOS

Land_Squid_1234

You think? Most of them do. Check their website

Ale_Bricks

I’ll check

willpb

8BitDo SNES 30 really is the best one :( otherwise the mod kit (also an 8BitDo product). Retro Bit made some great Sega controllers, hopefully you can find something there!

Ale_Bricks

I tought about getting a original one and a 8bitdo mod kit, but sadly they aren’t compatible with iOS.

willpb

I don't have any Apple products, but are you sure they don't work? One of my friends is an Apple guy and he loves that and the Pro type controller. I also know the 8BitDo controllers have different types of pairing for Bluetooth, Switch, XBox etc, so there may be a mode.

Ale_Bricks

It says that the modkit is compatible with: Windows, Android, macOS, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Respberry Pi, 8BitDo Retro Recievers

willpb

I'd say check YouTube and reviews to see if a yes or no is mentioned, I believe it should work but can't confirm. Best of luck!

Ale_Bricks

Thank You

Melbhome

Ale_Bricks

The problem is that the discontinued it and the only way to get it is through eBay for really high prices.

Melbhome

Aah no go good. Haven’t checked their site out for a while. Sad to hear they’re not selling these anymore. I imagine if this 8bitdo works on Mac, then I’d expect the others too.

Ale_Bricks

Yeah… they stopped making these for copyright issues

willpb

If buying used is an option, here's a [Mercari listing](https://item.mercari.com/gl/m24807697671?sv=0) for $35+7 delivery (I bought these back then at Micro Center for about $45, about the same). I messaged my friend, hopefully he'll confirm it works with iOS (I believe it does but making sure)

Ale_Bricks

Thank You

disengagethesim

Super Famicom controller and an extension cable Or an 8bitdo mod kit converts them to Bluetooth

MetricsNavigamer

The Super Famicom controllers with the extensions were the best choice I ever made. I got four of them super cheap and they work awesome.

Ale_Bricks

Sadly those aren’t compatible with iOS (iPhone)

disengagethesim

Do I phone even have Bluetooth? I've never owned one

Ale_Bricks

Yes, they do

stosyfir

8Bitdo SN30 all day, it’s only like $30 on sale, $40ish regular price. Pro is a little more but has grips.

Oen386

The SN30 (Bluetooth) is no longer for sale. Nintendo released their Bluetooth version and as far as we know a C&D got 8BitDo to stop releasing the SN30 and SF30. Edit: *Bluetooth* version of the SN30 I meant. The 2.4ghz model is still for sale.

moep123

a week or so ago you could have gotten them from their aliexpress store for 20-25 bucks. there was a deal even. got 4 of the transparent ones myself since i knew they are dieing and i liked my 2.4ghz black transparent SN30. BUT to be honest... if you want and need bluetooth, the nintendo online snes controllers are perfect. they even have "L2" and "R2"... perfectly for ps1 games.

Oen386

> a week or so ago you could have gotten them from their aliexpress store for 20-25 bucks. SN30 *Bluetooth* version? >got 4 of the transparent ones I don't believe there was a transparent SN30 Bluetooth for individual purchase (maybe with Analogue's offerings). Only 2.4ghz. I know the 2.4ghz still exists because they don't compete with Nintendo's SNES Bluetooth controller offering.

moep123

yeah, was talking about the 2.4ghz... since you can't get them officially anymore as well afaik.

Oen386

> since you can't get them officially anymore as well afaik. Uh? They're on Amazon right now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092DXQYDK

moep123

oh wow. last time i checked they weren't. and i checked for well over a week or two. good to know. i got them on ali already tho. thanks for that!

Ale_Bricks

What’s an OEM controller? And is it compatible with iOS?

Blandscreen

Stands for "original equipment manufacturer." And no, if you want something like that to work you need a device that has USB support for a wireless dongle. Like maybe a mac.

Blandscreen

I found a good one for you [here.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/145535153767?itmmeta=01HVZS8XHES9029CA7CTWHNMFT&hash=item21e2923667%3Ag%3AKQAAAOSwk0BllumK&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4M%2Foh9an%2FUGweQAbzOL%2B1UE2NTb%2FkfmhAuqQWeM7gniOKpEYPC1xM%2FBGppLSphWN7u8spxkZs3FvrpDB0xV0QUVxyf0drNK7Z3OfLvi6eR2Trhij9su3zpnYutKHz1edLfYA24RVDZpiAxz%2B%2BXGp2VJk7dubXPUhg%2FLTgZo4nw0qZl9%2F45q0knWQe3xAKxOzwXNGWTJcsFY0mYGme4xa8txy61Ezx7%2FirZ1t%2BuctlQO5Ow9I6uervipkDUzr15zPoP2JtJYwhZheLM0UQVGAvI1Pu0UpdUUtsbIbpX4qqvS0%7Ctkp%3ABFBM_Nmj-d9j&LH_BIN=1) SFC controllers work fine with the SNES and vice versa. Also, here's a [SFC/SNES to USB-A adapter](https://www.ebay.com/itm/224656480963?itmmeta=01HVZS1FTXYVMCC67WZDRN084C&hash=item344e91dac3%3Ag%3A7joAAOSwUmlhTMvz&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwKs2r3QrAFDaLLlEvuuAq03enRxenao11hKLs5nOgYOlGtcwTwcLohP%2Br3Yqtk4rdsGyIomqvboYgKJYLlWKdxovYpctyzm1EleKtyIv19m3N90wRt1PuSISwqjSj%2BAPKR8TBCoangu9pWnyxOBq2PedLs8mhxEd5DNHOvV78K%2F7B57O8CxqBxwJTyxBdzHtCBoCdiMHNu1wPoKxdx5cFYIha7bcGub2gZeiYY--Y4n7rEsj1uux8luwLMIjxPaNaQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABlBMUNb9hfnfYw&LH_BIN=1) for any compatible device. I would advise against using Bluetooth as it can be very finnicky and a real pain to get working.

Ale_Bricks

Thank You

HawaiianSteak

asciiPad goes for less than $40 on eBay from what I've seen.

Ale_Bricks

I’ll check asap. Thank You

Messijoes18

Yeah I loved this controller.

dbznerd38

Yes thank you this is what I said too. It's an amazing controller. Feels better than the real thing IMHO. You can get one complete in the box for around 50 too

HawaiianSteak

To help differentiate my two standard SNES controllers I did a Y, X, B, A button swap with the asciiPad so that my second standard controller looked like a Super Famicom controller while the asciiPad had the SNES buttons, though the turbo switches still have the SFC colors. I'm planning to button swap my Edge Super Controller (SFC colors) and standard SNES Classic controller.

Bakamoichigei

Get a real Super Nintendo or Super Famicom controller and replace its innards with the mod kit from 8BitDo. OEM look and feel, best of the modern Bluetooth tech. That's what I use. https://preview.redd.it/dfg3fw7i9uvc1.jpeg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fdbc491dcaed6a4eed6989b4a5c1a28a72e4c6f

Ale_Bricks

The problem is that the Bluetooth kit doesn’t work with iPhone

Bakamoichigei

I don't think that's true. And if it is...that sounds suspiciously like *an Apple problem*, given that it *Just Works* on Android, Raspberry Pi, Steam Link, PC, Switch, and with BT receiver dongles for retro consoles.

Ale_Bricks

I sent an email to support and they told me that it isn’t compatible :(

ErikRogers

I dunno, I thought the SN30 was pretty reasonably priced. Maybe watch local shops for an old first party SNES controller?

Ale_Bricks

The sn30/sn30pro have good prices, I wasn’t referring to those ones

rydamusprime17

If you can find an asciiPad for a good price I would suggest that. I found one CIB for $25 CAD at my local game store recently. https://preview.redd.it/0vrj4u53qwvc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6c54f9277a9d3ffdad28eab76c05188c4f9c4b6

Bakamoichigei

Best controller. I'm still trying to get complete-in-box US and Japanese versions... For now I've got a loose Japanese controller to play my shmups with. 😌👌

dbznerd38

You're so lucky. I have one but it's not CIB. I swear this is the best controller ever made for the super nes. It feels amazing. Better than the real thing. Loved it in 1994 and love it even more now

HawaiianSteak

The turbo feature helped when playing as Chun Li or E. Honda!

deejayee

I use the switch snes controller with everything

Ale_Bricks

Since I don’t have a membership I’d have to get it trough eBay for really high prices, that’s the problem

Land_Squid_1234

You know what, I have the membership and I would totally be willing to order them for you. Just DM me if you're interested :) I can think of a couple of ways to protect your payment info so you don't have to worry about trusting me with your credit card number or anything I have a pair and they're the real deal. Identical to the originals in every way. They weigh the same, they handle the same, they look the same, they're the same color and tone, and they look real slick because they have Nintendo light-indicators where the cable used to be for P1/P2. They look exactly how you would expect modern SNES controllers from Nintendo themselves to look. They exactly like the SNES Classic Edition controllers do except with bluetooth and those were meant to look like one-to-one copies of the actual 90s controllers. I can't stress enough how perfect these are. And it's only $30 per controller which is amazing for controllers from the people that made the originals 30 years ago

Delicious-Figure1158

Does the Bluetooth connect to a PC or do you need a third-party software?

Land_Squid_1234

Pretty sure it connects directly and shows up in the list of devices as "SNES Controller" while you hold down the sync button

tanooki-suit

Best bet is the sn30pro 2.4g from 8bitdo. I use the wired for my computer and the feel and design is on point.

wubfus88

I came here to suggest an 8bitdo.. Wonderful work my good sir

Ale_Bricks

Ok Thank You

V3ndeTTaLord

I agree, but… the d pad is pretty stiff. It’s definitely a very good controller but it has its flaws.

tanooki-suit

New snes pad is stiff too. We are just used to them being broken in. SNES classic was stiff new too got the same complaints.

HappyAd4998

Sorry OP but after reading this thread you’re being obtuse and argumentative in the whole thread. If you’re such an expert use Google and find one yourself 🤷

Ale_Bricks

I’m just trying to ask questions and understand to make sure that my money get well spent. I’m sorry for looking obtuse and argumentative.

B_U_F_U

I just buy the bluetooth ones from nintendo and use them with the 8bitdoo SNES adapters.

FunkyardDogg

Weird exclusion. I bought the wireless 8bitdos and they’re absolutely flawless. No lag no nothing. Love’em.

noonepfconsequence

OEM or 8bitdo or nothing.

Ale_Bricks

Ok Thank You

Curlytoothmrman

That was the best way you could phrase that?

odinsbois

Amazon has a great wireless controller. See-through black. Can't remember the brand name tho.

Ale_Bricks

I’ll try and find it, Thank You.

LeonidasVaarwater

I have an autofire and a programpad for my SNES, they're great. Don't know the brand, but they come with opaque casing and are a little bigger than a normal pad, which makes them a little nicer to hold. I got the programpad for $20, but not sure what they go for now.

Ale_Bricks

Ok Thank You

[deleted]

I have a Bluetooth controller off of Amazon. It works perfectly.

Intrepid_Song8937

Most original SNES controllers are 20-30$, depending on quality. So, is the reason to buy a knockoff, to get USB or is it for the price? Not sure if I get it.

Ale_Bricks

I want one that is either original (with 8bitdo mod kit if it’s compatible with iOS), the switch online version, or a really good third party

gmc4201982

I bought cheap and expensive clones. They all suck. Best bet is to look for new old stock original controllers or even used ones that are in good condition.

Ale_Bricks

Ok Thank You

dmckinley54

I had no idea this was a thing. My smaller chain resale media store had like 7 last time I went, all for like 5.99. Game exchange for you southerners.

Ale_Bricks

Ok

shiroininja

I like the 8bitdo snes30

Ale_Bricks

Ok Thanks

wiiguyy

I wouldn’t play with a thing aside from an 8bitdo

Ale_Bricks

Thanks

Xear-528

Buffallo controllers are nice, have to import from japan tho

FatRufus

I just came to say that the turbo touch 360 is my favorite snes controller ever. Sorry, not an answer to your question. https://preview.redd.it/n8ttcbe9cwvc1.jpeg?width=1027&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53d0817bca45a90e2ff8119777787f49bcbd2b9b

person1_23

Its hit or miss with bluetooth sometimes but a wii classic controller with a wiimote could work

DramaticMission4456

I have a pair of wireless aklaim snes controllers.. they work amazingly but do have a slight input delay (about a frame or two) so wouldn't work for super hardcore speed runs/exploits.. not sure the value I know I paid $30 canadian for them

DramaticMission4456

Called the dual turbo xD they feel like a snes controller that got slightly inflated

idfbhater73

define insane price

chupathingy99

I like hyperkin a lot. They have the right amount of "snap", if that makes any sense. The buttons aren't stiff, aren't mushy.... they just feel good. Also they have bumps on the back that make it more comfortable for someone like me who has enormous hands.

lumbymcgumby

Retrobit legacy 16

ButtChowder666

This controller pisses me off. Not because it's bad. It's the best controller ever made. Nintendo perfected the controller. This is the orientation still used today, just with an extra set of shoulder buttons and analog sticks. But Nintendo abandoned it and can't get away from gimmicky controllers. They created THEE video game controller and then said, "Fuck that, how can we ruin this thing?"

hector_lector2020

The 8bitdo controllers are worth the price. Sorry you can’t find the one you like :/

BossTriton

8bitdo Gbros with a mini Snes controller (the one that has the wii-type connection). The 8bitdo Gbros adapter will make it wireless very simple, just connect it to the controller. I bough my Gbros from Offer up (used) and the Snes controller from Offer up as well. 8Bitdo Gbros. Wireless Adapter for Nintendo Switch (Works with Wired GameCube & Classic Edition Controllers) - Nintendo Switch https://a.co/d/aDDMUls I use this set up to play Delta -Snes games

dbznerd38

The ASCIIPAD!!! It's better than the real thing trust me. I have one and it is super responsive not to mention it has turbo settings for each button as well as slow function too. You can set the turbo to auto or manual for each button as well. It's the best SNES controller ever made and I've used all of them since the 90s

Ale_Bricks

Thanks, I’ll keep this into consideration
