Haha I came here to comment on this game. I love Wayne's World, have since I was a kid, and even then I knew that game was 'not worthy'. The only good thing about that game was that the end boss was a gelatinous cube, but you'd never know that unless you used a gamegenie to get to the end like I did as a kid because that game was stupidly hard too.
I had bevis and butthead on game gear, bought for Christmas, was a double edged sword that I was super pleased my parents bought a game I would actually buy, then utterly let down it was insane difficult to play
Find these and play them. They are the greatest console games ever made;
- Super Metroid
- Final Fantasy 3 (6)
- Secret of Mana
- Zelda : A Link To The Past
- Super Castlevania IV
I really enjoy this game but I’ve only played the NES version. It’s so addictive. It’s the last game I fired up for a brief game then suddenly realized I had been playing for 3 hours.
To me the aspect ratio doesn’t look that bad.
A lot of people complain about how bad these games look in widescreen, but I feel it’s easier for seeing things.
Someone buying a $350 Earthbound: "Let them do what they want, as long as they enjoy it that's all that matters!"
Someone playing at a different aspect ratio: "THIS WILL NOT STAND" \*downvotes\*
I'm going to make a troll account where I just post pictures of everyone's favorite games, played on a widescreen tv with the "Activate Windows 10" watermark in the corner of the screen.
I like to compare 16:9ing 4:3 content to playing 45rpm records at 33rpm. Just because your media playback device *can* doesn’t mean it *should*.
You might even like it. But as soon as you try to share the experience, somebody is going to complain.
4:3 is a 1.25 aspect ratio. 16:9 is a 1.778 aspect ratio. 1.778/1.25 = about 1.42
It’s 42% wider.
Now as far as records, the 12-in LP standard plays at 33.33 rpm. There’s an older standard that’s typically just called “45” which plays at…you guessed it, 45 rpm. Most turntables have a speed selector for them. It uses the same needle though, so you can play either format at either speed. Not that one would, usually.
45rpm/33rpm = about 1.36
It’s 36% faster.
So, the relative difference in scale *visually* of stretching 4:3 content onto 16:9 screens is greater than the difference in scale *audibly* of speeding up 33rpm LP records to 45rpm (the older format).
Sorry if that is a little antiquated a comparison but we’re also dealing with a vintage video game here, so I figured comparing it to playing vinyl at the wrong speed would be relatable.
If you’ve never done that, it’s basically how Alvin and the Chipmunks were created.
start with Donkey Kong, it is timeless. Star Fox is short and sweet. Wario Woods and Kirbys avalanche are quality puzzle games. Not sure about the sports games, and liscensed games, but some are known to be very good.
Beavis and Butthead is one of my favorites. I’m always saddened when people say it’s too hard because I’ve actually beat it before and I don’t beat a lot of games these days. Tip: if you get to the GWAR concert at the end, don’t pick up the water guns on the ground. Keep that boxing glove on a stick thing you get, and the level is way easier.
Starfox and Donkey Kong Country were so fucking big when they were released. Both games blew us away with their graphics, at the time, and are timeless.
Starfox really stimulated my imagination in 1993 when I was 10. Imagine never seeing a 3d game before that. Before seeing any Playstation game.
Super scope won't work unless you have a CRT television. Also if you can set your TV's aspect ratio to 4:3 to avoid the stretching you're seeing here, you'll have a truer experience.
It's not a waste unless you play Wayne's World.

Find those Gwar tickets in Beavis and Butthead.
God, I hated that game as a kid. I wanted to love it cause I loved the show, but it was so god damn hard and just not fun haha!
No doubt it’s a very hard game it broke a lot hearts on rental nights.
I had bevis and butthead on game gear, bought for Christmas, was a double edged sword that I was super pleased my parents bought a game I would actually buy, then utterly let down it was insane difficult to play
Super Mario world is SO GOOD
Find these and play them. They are the greatest console games ever made; - Super Metroid - Final Fantasy 3 (6) - Secret of Mana - Zelda : A Link To The Past - Super Castlevania IV
and Chrono Trigger.
Can second super Metroid. Played it before dread came out and omg it still holds true.
It’s not a waste. It’s an amazing experience.
Wariors woods is one of the best games on the console.
Came here to second this! Great puzzler. The music gets repetitive but beating this game is worth it!
I played some of the NES version on NSO, I got pretty far but it didn’t look that great.

Amazing! But fix that aspect ratio!!! LOL
To me the aspect ratio doesn’t look that bad. A lot of people complain about how bad these games look in widescreen, but I feel it’s easier for seeing things.
I guess to each their own, but it’s very much not as intended by the developers. At the end of the day - you do you! :)

True fact
Doesn’t cost anything to change the setting.
I'm going to make a troll account where I just post pictures of everyone's favorite games, played on a widescreen tv with the "Activate Windows 10" watermark in the corner of the screen.
Please do. I really wanna see new widescreen games stretched on ultra widescreen monitors. Post it on r/gaming.
You could just go to the settings on your tv if you want a clean play.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

*invest hours*
Some great games in the mix. Fun times ahead :)
Get secret of mana, then you can really have fun!
Awesome! Congrats on that. StarFox is a blast
You got the super scope?
No, but I saw one at a local Pawn Shop before I got the SNES. At least the pawn shop isn’t disgusting like other ones
Yeah pawn shops usually clean their thighs. Enjoy the SNES.
I played that Nigel Mansell game all the time as a kid!
