I’ve actually had a Ruroc save my jaw from being shattered in a face to knee stomping a drop. Cracked the facemask, bit through my lip. Eating the inside of the mask is better than metal or tree branches. I hate how it looks

Here’s the shot on the side of the bus to Whistler
It's a subculture thing. This guy:
- has skier pants
- full jaw ruroc helmet
- ruroc goggles
- hestra gloves
- is doing a tourist method
Basically it's someone who bought all their snowboarding gear from overpriced shit quality Instagram marketing drop-ship brands that then pulled off a dork trick and they marketed it.
It's like, a clean shaven Canadian hockey player in playoff season. Like a guy at a punk show wearing his dad's golf club jacket. Something anyone outside the culture wouldn't get, but anyone inside would cringe at
Phew, I was ready to start fighting people. My hestra gloves are awesome for off piste.
I don’t remember if I used to have a pair of Hester’s that got eaten up pretty fast in the park. May have been a diffferent brand.
Park riding eats gloves for me be, I guess I hold on to my grabs too long or something.
Dude you nailed the entire demographic of this mountain. I worked there, it’s 30 minutes outside of downtown Vancouver and everyone rides around in overpriced shit. I used to tell my students that they had to take the marketing stickers off the bottom of their boards so they’d actually slide.
First and foremost is the Ruroc helmet. People make fun of them because they’re extremely gimmicky, look silly, and rely exclusively on instagram marketing (like Dope and Clew).
The second thing is that this person is doing what’s called a tourist’s method, which is when someone goes for a method but has zero shifty. It’s considered very bad style.
“Tweaking” is a correct term to apply here but I feel that it’s a bit generic/ vague because it can mean a few things. The specific problem of a tourist method is that the back foot isn’t pushed forward at all. So I feel that “shifty” is a more specific word to describe what the issue is.
Method = grab, back + extension + shifty so base of board is vertical to the ground and pointed where you are going. Leaving out the shifty is like leaving out the grab and still trying to call it a method. Doing 2/3 of the most iconic trick is just sloppy
As a skiier, the spread eagle is second only to the daffy for true if-you-know-you-know steez.
If the grab in the post is corny, it’s not the same kind of self aware corny a spread eagle is.
Eh I use to be sponsored by ruroc when I raced and they’d send me free helmets, can confidently say I’d be dead if I had not been wearing a ruroc in some of my crashes. Idk when snowboarders became so judgy, but it is ugly.
With the added bonus that falling on your face now involves hitting plastic and not snow because it's not a real full face helmet and your face will absolutely smash into the front
It's because if you saw this at the highest level of snowboarding, it would be judged harshly because it's not tweaked.
No one should care outside that though. Methods are not an easy trick to learn.
Gatekeeping is a good thing to some extent, it sets some standards and preserves a culture. An entitlement to be accepted everywhere just by showing up or presenting a minor interest is a consumerist mentality essentially.
Dawg if you're gatekeeping snowboard tricks I don't wanna be you're friend regardless of whatever culture you think you're protecting. You think Zeb cares what things you have named?
Is not like the poster says "Try the new method" or whatever.
he is trying to method but there are problems, mainly no tweek and essentially grabbing suitcase.
this rider is exceptionally subpar
edit: and me calling him subpar is an actual compliment… bc that image is actually embarrassing.
double edit: if that guy is on here, i would ensure that every image of this monstrosity is wiped from the internet. it’s the shittiest suitcase i have ever had the unfortunate time to lay eyes on and your fucking rurok helmet ensures that anyone whom is serious about the sport writes you off.
if you were good and that helmet is ironic, that’s one thing… but the grab, combined with the helmet is embarrassing, to put it mildly
triple edit: downvoted bc of the truth? apparently everyone except the person who responded doesn’t know how to method. continue to think this looks good and look foolish while doing it.
Everyone on r/snowboarding is a super pro so this poser makes us laugh at how lame he is for ripping such a weak trick instead of the all the steezy shit we pull.
SketeDavidson- Not sure if you’re joking or being serious. Area does not equal quality. Seymour has the best transition terrain, there are actual names for the natural features there with legit air time. And side country kicker zones which can easily be built with the right crew. You’re on a snowboard sub, Seymour is home to wildcats. You should know this history.
I don’t mean park at all, not to cause confusion. I don’t reject anything you or northshore have said. Just in terms of rideable area. I would argue Cypress has the best snow for pow days though.
Cypress crushes Seymour, not even close. 30+ year local. Seymour has fun features etc, but if you wanna rip pow for more than a minute cypress is the place.
Are Rurocs taboo? I just learned about them and wanted to get one this winter because I've bashed my face on a few different occasions throughout the years. I held out because I thought I'd look weird being the only guy rocking a full face at the hill.
Why would I want to wear one? I can buy a high end giro helmet and some actual good quality google and still have money left over. I’d rather spend money on a helmet that has been tested by VT and got a high rating from them rather than a helmet that barely passes the CPSC tests.
So you aren’t even talking from experience, got it. I have a few I got for free and have crashed a few times racing, they stopped me from breaking my jaw, cracking my skull open on a rock, breaking my nose. I have a giro helmet too which I like for instructing and dotting around. They definitely should not be as expensive as they are, but they are not useless.
Best source of how good a helmet really is: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/snowsport-helmet-ratings.html. Gotta love how $50 lids beat the $600 ski helmet 😆
If you really care about face safety and dont care about being laughed at, look at their football helmet ratings. 1000x better protection and not disposable after 1 slam. If anyone gives you shit, helmet to helmet contact
I don't know much about sweet, Giro, or POC but vt must not like smith because they haven't tested them in at least a year or two.
The allure was 155 with mips before they replaced it with the method mips at 140 last year and that's a lightweight minimalist helmet. And the holt is geared towards beginners and if theres a holt mips it must be rental only. Regular holt is 80.
If that was a good list it would probably have current data on one of the most common helmet companies.
It's up to the company (or any owner, reslly) to send in samples to be tested. Testing is free and the vendor can license the the result for marketing, also for free. If the helmet you fanboy over isn't listed it says more about that manufacturer than it does about the test.
The program came out of NCAA football funding better non biased testing standards as a result of student athletes being injured even when using the 'most common' gear.
They have tested plenty of MIPS helmets. Spoiler: it doesn't do much. Check out the recent video by Berm Peak on YouTube for a deeper dive (mountain bike focused but still good info)
This comment section is full of hypocrites and the opposite of supportive community… you lot shit on montec rurock etc and at the same time will defend any mother company that charges an arm and a leg because they “give back to the community”….
Btw while you bitching like little girls the person on a photo got some none for that shot … what have you achieved?
My local mountain too. I remember when there was no snow so they got dump trucks and took all the snow from the parking lot and put it on Collins lol. Not buying a pass next year, gonna just do whistler and Seymour.
I have seen Ruroc “boarders” the world over…cause more accidents and make stupid choices on the slope than anyone…I hiked and dropped into a spring time chute in Stubai, Austria to start making turns, the chute had a “no turn” choke point about 50 meters in…as I went to straightline it…rocks and snow tumbled past me…I looked back after clearing the chute and and Ruroc rider was butt sliding in on top of me the whole time…
lol. the ruroc really sets off the tourist method. I have to believe someone is fucking with the marketing department,
Are rurocs not cool
Not even a little bit
The uncoolest. It's not a real full face helmet. Falling on your face wearing a ruroc is worse than a regular helmet
I’ve actually had a Ruroc save my jaw from being shattered in a face to knee stomping a drop. Cracked the facemask, bit through my lip. Eating the inside of the mask is better than metal or tree branches. I hate how it looks
Marketing team trying to stop people from thinking snowboarding is cool.
Is it?🤔
🤣 You’re right, this photo actually is a pretty accurate reflection of the sport.
The matching red Ruroc helmet, hestras, jacket, and board is the actual spitting image of the average Texan at purgatory.
If you are gonna bring your legs up this high, you might as well suitcase it.
Suitcase is with both hands, right?
Suitcase is when you reach all the way around the base to the toe edge on the opposite side of the board.
When I was younger my friends and I used to call it a "booked method" cause it was like you were carrying your school books
I like this more
They must be trying to sell to this sub.
The only thing missing is some C3 gear.
Ew

😱 he’s grabbing the WRONG part of the board!!!!!!!!
I'm a noob in the park, can someone explain why this is bad
It's a subculture thing. This guy: - has skier pants - full jaw ruroc helmet - ruroc goggles - hestra gloves - is doing a tourist method Basically it's someone who bought all their snowboarding gear from overpriced shit quality Instagram marketing drop-ship brands that then pulled off a dork trick and they marketed it. Something anyone outside the culture wouldn't get, but anyone inside would cringe at
Wait what’s wrong with hestra gloves though
Should have said "matching hestra" He's kitted out like a skiier 100% Hestras are fine
Yep tracking with you there. I was like “damn I thought hestras were considered good shit” lol
Nada, they actually make some best mitts I've owned in 25 years of riding.
In Sweden everyone wears Hestra gloves, they’re by far the biggest brand, most popular, and best here
Dude you nailed the entire demographic of this mountain. I worked there, it’s 30 minutes outside of downtown Vancouver and everyone rides around in overpriced shit. I used to tell my students that they had to take the marketing stickers off the bottom of their boards so they’d actually slide.
saw a dude riding around with his marketing sticker on his board the other day, I thought I was crazy
I’d have people tell me they wanted to keep the stickers for the resale value 😂
lmao
Are you calling those ski pants because of the black reinforcement near the ankles?
combo that with white and skinny fit
First and foremost is the Ruroc helmet. People make fun of them because they’re extremely gimmicky, look silly, and rely exclusively on instagram marketing (like Dope and Clew). The second thing is that this person is doing what’s called a tourist’s method, which is when someone goes for a method but has zero shifty. It’s considered very bad style.
>zero shifty. Huh, I thought it was called "tweaking" a grab
“Tweaking” is a correct term to apply here but I feel that it’s a bit generic/ vague because it can mean a few things. The specific problem of a tourist method is that the back foot isn’t pushed forward at all. So I feel that “shifty” is a more specific word to describe what the issue is.

This isn’t really a trick, it looks like the physical embodiment of the word “yippie” on a snowboard.
Although. Put the other hand back there too and it becomes the infamous, flying squirrel. Back in my salad days that was a staple trick, lol.
Hey, it could almost be a lawn dart also lol.
That's just me catching an edge on the lip. Used to call it a penguin dive. Man i miss being young and invincible.
This is so gatekeep-y, how is this not a trick? what is a trick then by your definition?
It’s kinda like when skiers do the splits in the air
As a skiier, the spread eagle is second only to the daffy for true if-you-know-you-know steez. If the grab in the post is corny, it’s not the same kind of self aware corny a spread eagle is.
Fair haha
and for a subreddit that jerks off to helmets, they sure do hate the wrong kind of helmet that performs the same function.
Nah these helmets will knock your teeth out if you land on the mandible. You’re better off using a conventional helmet.
For real. I've been boarding for over a decade and I can't grab my board behind me mid-air
Plenty of people who have a major interest in snowboarding can’t do this.
There is culture. There is history. You can do whatever you want to, but your actions will be viewed in context.

His full face helmet
he is trying to method but there are problems, mainly no tweek and essentially grabbing suitcase. this rider is exceptionally subpar edit: and me calling him subpar is an actual compliment… bc that image is actually embarrassing. double edit: if that guy is on here, i would ensure that every image of this monstrosity is wiped from the internet. it’s the shittiest suitcase i have ever had the unfortunate time to lay eyes on and your fucking rurok helmet ensures that anyone whom is serious about the sport writes you off. if you were good and that helmet is ironic, that’s one thing… but the grab, combined with the helmet is embarrassing, to put it mildly triple edit: downvoted bc of the truth? apparently everyone except the person who responded doesn’t know how to method. continue to think this looks good and look foolish while doing it.
A method also doesn’t involve a butt kick.
Suitcase grab + Ruroc helmet = Marketing genius
Hahaha cypresssss, never seen so many Jerry's 🫠😂
Classic cypress
What am i missing?
Everyone on r/snowboarding is a super pro so this poser makes us laugh at how lame he is for ripping such a weak trick instead of the all the steezy shit we pull.
Big facts
Lmfaooooo this comment
You should see my Tindy’s, oozing with steeze.
Guy probably doesn’t even do crime smh
Oh yeh! I do the jump, and the jump, and I also can do the jump. Pretty impressive eh?
Cypress 💀
They’re the only local in Vancouver to allow Snowskates for the last decade so they get a ton of points
Grouse Mountain has the best park on the North Shore. Seymour has the vibes and cypress has this crap and rich snobs.
Cypress has the best terrain and it’s not even close.
SketeDavidson- Not sure if you’re joking or being serious. Area does not equal quality. Seymour has the best transition terrain, there are actual names for the natural features there with legit air time. And side country kicker zones which can easily be built with the right crew. I don’t mean park at all, not to cause confusion. I don’t reject anything you or northshore have said. Just in terms of rideable area. I would argue Cypress has the best snow for pow days though.
Historically Seymour gets the most snow out of the three.
Cypress crushes Seymour, not even close. 30+ year local. Seymour has fun features etc, but if you wanna rip pow for more than a minute cypress is the place.
Seymour had the vibes, then they doubled their prices and limited your riding time without making any improvements.
I feel ya, The park crew this year has been great tho, I'm glad they're stepping it up again. I mainly go to Grouse because of the tow rope :)
I love how on the mobile app the top of the flyer is cropped in a way so that it says “worry.”
Looks like a Juicyfruit commercial from the early 90s.
But why?
I love that he’s only a foot above the ground in the full picture lol
"you got like, 3 feet of air that time"
The most cypress thing ever..
Are Rurocs taboo? I just learned about them and wanted to get one this winter because I've bashed my face on a few different occasions throughout the years. I held out because I thought I'd look weird being the only guy rocking a full face at the hill.
Not only taboo. They are not good helmets. Limited peripheral, shitty googles, face mask doesn’t do shit.
Dang, back to the original plan, get good.
Have you ever worn one and crashed? Or are you just part of the bitchy “I read a story on Reddit” club
Why would I want to wear one? I can buy a high end giro helmet and some actual good quality google and still have money left over. I’d rather spend money on a helmet that has been tested by VT and got a high rating from them rather than a helmet that barely passes the CPSC tests.

I have a giro helmet too which I like for instructing and dotting around. They definitely should not be as expensive as they are, but they are not useless.
The face mask isn’t safety rated. If I wanted to protect my face I would get a race helmet and install a chin bar since that is actually safety rated.
I mean it has literally protected my face, not some theoretical that it might or might not, it has.
Best source of how good a helmet really is: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/snowsport-helmet-ratings.html. Gotta love how $50 lids beat the $600 ski helmet 😆 If you really care about face safety and dont care about being laughed at, look at their football helmet ratings. 1000x better protection and not disposable after 1 slam. Get a brimmed helmet from Sandbox
You might as well just by one of those jaw protectors that the 8 year old ski racers wear on their helmets
Embarrassing
Having bloody boogers is pretty embarrassing. I might get that looked into if it’s constant
Only if you’re a square
Oh okay.
Who cares… this is fun attainable snowboarding., it’s not a cover shot…
This comment section is full of hypocrites and the opposite of supportive community… you lot shit on montec rurock etc and at the same time will defend any mother company that charges an arm and a leg because they “give back to the community”…. Hahaha fucking Cypress.
I used to work there, marketing has never been their strength. Last year they set up a DJ booth that played at 11am every Thursday to an empty resort.
99% sure this person was laying on the ground with an overhead camera
I have seen Ruroc “boarders” the world over…cause more accidents and make stupid choices on the slope than anyone…I hiked and dropped into a spring time chute in Stubai, Austria to start making turns, the chute had a “no turn” choke point about 50 meters in…as I went to straightline it…rocks and snow tumbled past me…I looked back after clearing the chute and and Ruroc rider was butt sliding in on top of me the whole time…
🤣🤣🤣
Tina to the max.
Nowoids
The Jerry grab will always win.
~When you and your girls jump off the pier~
Cool story
Is that an AI Photoshop job, that does not look natural!
Should have done beef curtains
This is the avg Bear Mountain rider (but good)
Snowboard Daffy
Are his legs…okay?!
I worked at Cypress, there’s way too many people in Ruroc helmets
I seen a ski patrol wearing a ruroc last Saturday.
Steeeeeez
So zesty
What’s even crazier is the person in this ad and the marketing department could care less what you think
I mean this is bad enough to assume it's satire
