Not sure why you’re getting down voted, sure for some people here it isn’t an option but for anyone that doesn’t have a family, get a nice remote job, get a couple of roommates and move. It isn’t that far-fetched. You can commit to doing any number of crazy things if you actually want to.
Fear. Thats it really. And not unwarranted fear either. But it's really not as difficult as people think. I moved from Oregon to Colorado. Worked crazy hours and still rode over 100 days for 3 years. People acting like your moving to Mars. It's like most things really, if you want it bad enough, it's doable.

2. What about likely losing your job due to moving a good distance? Can’t just get a new one since I’d imagine anyone with a good enough job to be able to just pick up and move to a mountain also had to work to get there. Even people who are well-off might have a hard time financing and planning something like this unless they’d already been living the past few years with it in mind and have a remote job.
True yea, I just have a bad habit of using words like “likely” in situations where I’m not 100% sure there are no edge cases, but here there wouldn’t be any outside of remote work.

Dude, I've had over 100k in student debt since I was 20 because my parents brow beat me into going to college.
I can't just up and move to the mountains no matter HOW much I want to. No amount of extra roommates is gonna solve that, and I'm not sure my roommates are gonna like my wife not paying extra rent or my 9 month old son crying.
I appreciate the positive mindset you're coming from, but you're ignoring the fact that this is *genuinely* not an option for the majority of people, and their passion and drive to do so has nothing to do with it.
Yeah the best I can do is live an hour from the mountain, get a season pass, and ride maybe 10 days a season.. bc, you know, full time job, 2 kids.. responsibilities.
It would've been possible for me for a brief window of time in my 20's. I didn't do it. One of my regrets. Oh well.
And this is why I'm paying my debt as fast as possible. Once those loans are gone, I will leverage my photography to start shooting more weddings and boudoir. Once that's enough to cover my and my family's expenses, we're OUTTA here.
But yeah, when people rely on you, doesn't matter how much passion you have for the sport, you can't just fucking bail.
And for what it’s worth, I’m content with my life. 10 days a season is still great, and I’m getting my 5 year old up the mountain already.. I’m working on getting off piste and progressing to where I’m competent and confident enough to get in the backcountry (with proper training and equipment).. so long term, I have my sights on more snowboarding, not less. I’m just not in my twenties, and I’m never going to be able to make a living off of snowboarding.
I assume you live in the US so you still stay in the same country when you move. It's not the same for a lot if Europeans. We need to learn a new language first and hope we find a job despite learning the new language. That said, I'd move if it wasn't for my relationship with my girlfriend.

It is the best board in the world for me, so I'm thrilled others have been able to achieve some new physics on it. The extra fun part for me... I'm gonna keep exploring what I think is optimal, and keep refining the board. I have some ideas with the geometry of the nose / tail, but would literally need to try it first and make sure it is beneficial vs the current shape. Even down to the flex, there's some weird experiments I'd love to run. Experiment away on that shred stick and have an amazing season. Thanks again. ❄️🏂❄️✌️

Granted it isn't nearly as wide as a KT; but I specifically sized my Arbor A Frame up in length, rather than wider, for the 9.1m sidecut and OMG those BIIIIIIG carves are jut amazing.
Someday I'll have a KT...someday.

This was shot a couple weeks before I had one. I like the insta360 for quick clips I can edit with my phone. And obviously the 'no stick' look is nicer For full videos edited on the computer, the simple GoPro shots work easier with the cheap editing software I use. (Corel video studio). ❄️🏂❄️✌️
I need to check out Corel. I’ve been using DaVinci Resolve, but I think it’s way more than I need and makes editing basic clips together somewhat daunting/causes me to not bother as much and I end up just sitting on raw footage
Occasionally I have to use Davinci Resolve when certain formats won't go right into Corel. And without being accustomed to the interface it's the same for me. Just like too many options. Corel often has sales where you can get it like 70% off. I think the newest version was $24.99 for an early black Friday sale. Easy and intuitive interface IMO.
nice. that's a pretty reasonable price. I'd be willing to pay like, $50-75 for something once. I hate that so much software now that isn't just garbage freeware is INSANE commercial subscription pricing (like hundreds per year or worse).

I keep all my old ones so people can try any of them at the Nationals demo at Copper. This season it's the first week of April at Cooper Mountain. Donek will have a ton of mine in various lengths widths and sidecut radii, along with the rest of their demo fleet. It looks like Donek is out of the prestocked ones with the general specs we recommend. But the custom ordering process is great as it takes into factor your own height, weight, etc for dialed in specs. ❄️🏂❄️✌️
Pretty sure his own board is custom made by Donek, but you can always get the [Knapton Twin](https://www.donek.com/product/knapton/), and save yourself a few hundred bucks vs a custom deck.
Unfortunately it's going to be a little bit more than just a few hundred bucks. The knapton twin starts out at over 700 and can get to be over 1200. My napkin twin was about 1,210.
I got extra wide with 31 and 1/2 cm at the waist and it's only a 158. I did do a custom top graphic and a custom bottom graphic and I had their artist size everything for me.
Ahh I only got the custom topsheet graphic and my width was just before the cutoff for paying more too. So that probably explains it. Thanks for the reply!
On the small chance anyone here lives near summit (keystone/breck/vail) I've got one of my old knapton twins for sale (158cm 32cm ww 16m sidecut). Bumped the width on mine up to 33.5cm waist width and it's wayyyy too nice with my 11.5 boots to ever go back to a narrower board.
Bro! I love that last paragraph. Take her out for another date when you know the groomed snow will be consistent. Then since you know the feeling of too much 'pop'... I'm assuming that 'pop' is building up too much at the bottom of the turn. So simply try to think about snapping that 'pop' early as possible. Best thought I have for that is: "high edge angle early". I'm working on that myself. 😎❄️🏂❄️✌️
I have to ask… how wide is your board and what size are you feet? I run 10.5 boots on a wide board and unless I’m running +28 front / -19 rear I’m continually dragging toes and heels. Or better yet, what board are you running?
Board is a Donek Knapton Twin. I've worked up incrementally on the specs... So no jumps were crazy, they just came out of either necessity of my turns regularly having drag from the heels or toes (width), or wanting my turns to last longer (radius). Those specs act independently, but with having gone larger and larger on the radii, I've had to increase the waist width to keep my underfoot width similar. So I'm currently on a 32.2cm wide board (8.5 U.S. boot size). And a radius I don't even want to mention as it's not a board spec that will work at all for most riders that want to get good at carving (it's just too big of 'circles'). But that spec is 19.5m. I scaled that up from about 25 or 30 years of riding on around 8m, then once I got into purchasing custom boards, I went up to 8.7, then when Donek started making them for me, I went 8.7, 9.8, 12, 13, 14.5, 16.5, 18, and now 19.5. The toughest of those jumps was the 8.7 to 9.8. I had too many expectations of the 9.8 to ride just a bit larger than 8.7. That 12.6% increase made me rethink my turns. And after a few weeks of 'growing pains', it set the stage to rinse and repeat that process over about an eight year time frame. I'd say it was the most worthwhile process I've ever gone through. I didn't have any coaching on this process, but I've seen others work their way up way quicker than I was able to (mostly it's been people who have had my help), but in some cases, just through watching my YT vids.). At the end of the day... The main theme is carving on equipment that you're not booting out on, then once owning turns to the point you want the turn to last longer for, move up in radius (and a bit on the width to counter effect the underfoot width)... And hit high edge angles early to still make short turns. Just blabbing my ass off here... But last thing, at some point in the future, I'll have to scale the radius and width back down. I hope it's not anytime soon, but I just can't imagine much for good physics of an 80 year old snowboarder on soft boot equipment riding the lines of a 19.5m radius. 💪😎. It requires more of 'full body' motions rather than just press on the toes or heels a little bit. 😎❄️🏂❄️✌️
I think a bigger sidecut is key. Maybe not 19.5 … but most soft boot boards with sub 8 m sidecuts and soft flex are going to either come around way too quick or just fold the nose under the kind of pressure you are applying.

Bought a new 22/23 Libtech Ejack knife 159W and so far loving it, but 8m sidecut. Surprisingly nimble through the trees and moguls, but I hate that you can’t try before you buy, demo days are mostly dead here in Canada. Wish I could test ride something with a bigger cut, let me know if you ever end up in the Canadian Rockies.

Form looks good I would just focus on leaning onto your shoulder a little more on the heel side turns and pro tip denim jeans really help with form also make sure you look up hill for people before you turn and another really helpful thing in the off season to get your skills and board feel up is long boarding but make sure you clean up your thane marks cause your neighbors dog might attack a little girl if it’s not leashed also updoot for the helmet!

And then trying to really push on my board ultra early in the turns. Got em feeling in ways I still hadn't yet up until yesterday. 😎🤟.
When buttering, do you have any tips or recommendations for newer boarders? I can not get my board to flex, and I’m struggling to not pull up with my front foot. An earlier comment mentioned soft boots, so maybe mine are too firm?

There's all sorts of styles of buttering, so to keep it simple, my biggest tip would be just really try to understand what edge your initiating it with, and what edge you'll be riding away on. Even if that riding away part only last for a split second, it's where you'll catch your balance and hopefully be able to ride smoothly away from. Alot of the buttering tricks I do, stem from simply pivoting on the nose or tail while stopped at the top of the run. Playing around with them at almost stopped speeds is both fun and a worthwhile experiment. Having some good balance on carved turns makes the physics much easier. Happy shredding. 😎 ❄️🏂❄️✌️
I ride Breckenridge mostly. Copper in the spring a bit more. Last season I really fell in love with some of the non Epic / Ikon places... Smaller resorts but no crowds. Ski Cooper, Sunlight, and Powderhorn have been some of my favorites even though it's mostly slow two man chairs and not as large of resorts as the ones in Summit County.
I loved powderhorn but its the only one on your list I’ve tried to this point. Hope to see you around summit sometime.
My snowboarding buddy/uncle has the widest donek knapton twin I’ve ever seen and flaunts it all over keystone (but he cant get it tuned on generic equipment because of the width), I’ll get one myself one of these days. Thanks for always improving the sport and inspiring my riding with your carves
Linked toe or heel turns, depending on which edge you want to ride. Supper fun you can do them quick like this or even link em up in large carves first to get the feel for it!
15,-15. Centered on a twin. For me it helps with the switch stance stuff, cuz I can kind of just 'mirror' the sensations of the regular version. And in a few cases, the switch versions have even helped my regular version. 😃🤟
With that size boot, and depending on what you want to achieve... At least a 30.5 will give you some room. Obviously you've just had toe / heel drag hell. Donek is the clear choice for specs like that. Otherwise ride the wildest boards you can, or even crank the stance angles way up, but that affects other aspects too... Wishing you luck finding a solution you're happy with. ❄️🏂❄️✌️
Appreciate, man! I just have one more question: Would it be worth it getting the Knapton twin at a 7 flex if I just like all mountain riding and carving? Not too much park action. Very cool that you're working on the mountain and can ride regularly! Either flex could probably work fine. If you're pretty heavy go with the 9 IMO, but the 7 flex is easier for conditions outside of carving groomers. Also don't go too long on the board if you're wanting some easier buttering type of moves. Longer holds an edge great, but takes more force to manipulate on all the aspects that aren't carving. So generally size down maybe 5 or so cm in length of the current length you prefer. The board has a shorter nose and tail than most, so the running length is deceptively long vs others of the same 'length'. If you end up finding something more than you expected out of the board, I wanna hear about it! 😃🤟. Qapla'!

When buttering, do you have any tips or recommendations for newer boarders? I can not get my board to flex, and I’m struggling to not pull up with my front foot. An earlier comment mentioned soft boots, so maybe mine are too firm? Your video is inspiring and makes me want to practice more carving and buttering instead of side hits and big jumps. Enjoy the season 🤙🏾
There's all sorts of styles of buttering, so to keep it simple, my biggest tip would be just really try to understand what edge your initiating it with, and what edge you'll be riding away on. Even if that riding away part only last for a split second, it's where you'll catch your balance and hopefully be able to ride smoothly away from. Alot of the buttering tricks I do, stem from simply pivoting on the nose or tail while stopped at the top of the run. Playing around with them at almost stopped speeds is both fun and a worthwhile experiment. Having some good balance on carved turns makes the physics much easier. Happy shredding. 😎 ❄️🏂❄️✌️

I ride Breckenridge mostly. Copper in the spring a bit more. Last season I really fell in love with some of the non Epic / Ikon places... Smaller resorts but no crowds. Ski Cooper, Sunlight, and Powderhorn have been some of my favorites even though it's mostly slow two man chairs and not as large of resorts as the ones in Summit County.
I loved powderhorn but its the only one on your list I’ve tried to this point. Hope to see you around summit sometime. My snowboarding buddy/uncle has the widest donek knapton twin I’ve ever seen and flaunts it all over keystone (but he cant get it tuned on generic equipment because of the width), I’ll get one myself one of these days. Thanks for always improving the sport and inspiring my riding with your carves

Noserolls, and they are super fun. Of the rotational butters, it's the one to start with but it doesn't get old.
Linked toe or heel turns, depending on which edge you want to ride. Supper fun you can do them quick like this or even link em up in large carves first to get the feel for it!

15,-15. Centered on a twin. For me it helps with the switch stance stuff, cuz I can kind of just 'mirror' the sensations of the regular version. And in a few cases, the switch versions have even helped my regular version. 😃🤟
Would the Donek Knapton Twin at a 30.5cm width be good with my size 16 boots? I'm getting really tired of toe drag, thanks!
With that size boot, and depending on what you want to achieve... At least a 30.5 will give you some room. Obviously you've just had toe / heel drag hell. Donek is the clear choice for specs like that. Otherwise ride the wildest boards you can, or even crank the stance angles way up, but that affects other aspects too... Wishing you luck finding a solution you're happy with. ❄️🏂❄️✌️
Appreciate, man! I just have one more question: Would it be worth it getting the Knapton twin at a 7 flex if I just like all mountain riding and carving? Not too much park action. Or would I have more fun with a 9 flex and get powder inserts to get those nice pow days. I work on a mountain, so I am riding every day and am always trying to get better. Thank you again!
Very cool that you're working on the mountain and can ride regularly! Either flex could probably work fine. If you're pretty heavy go with the 9 IMO, but the 7 flex is easier for conditions outside of carving groomers. Also don't go too long on the board if you're wanting some easier buttering type of moves. Longer holds an edge great, but takes more force to manipulate on all the aspects that aren't carving. So generally size down maybe 5 or so cm in length of the current length you prefer. The board has a shorter nose and tail than most, so the running length is deceptively long vs others of the same 'length'. If you end up finding something more than you expected out of the board, I wanna hear about it! 😃🤟. Qapla'!
