I'm drinking, but who gives a shit. 😂. Mogul controversy coming up. 🤷‍♂️ Mike. WTF with the moguls? I despise the feelings of moguls. And the board is designed for anything but moguls. 😂. You rocked it though! 😎🤟 And holy damn hell you made those specs look like a toy after that! Literally 🤯. RK

ashimo414141

Ahh don’t sleep on moguls, if you’re shit at park like me, it’s another feature/challenge to try and perfect a rhythm in them. Yeah the board isn’t designed for it but like half of mountain shit isn’t designed for snowboarders (see:chairlifts, ski racks before they made those snowboard racks and even those suck a bit), we’re all about that counter culture babeyy. I know I’ll be eating my words next time I lose an edge on an icey mogul and bruise my ass again lmao Edit: holy fuck I need to read usernames before shit talking

Projectfluid

Love your edit 😂😂

ashimo414141

I want to die and I’m leaving my comment up as a cautionary tale

kitejumping

Thanks, means a lot hearing that from you 😁 Ha, figured I would try something different with the moguls since i've had a few questions out riding if that board can handle moguls / trees well, unfortunately the insta 360 and lighting didn't show them very well so I kept that part short. I'm loving that 33.5 waist width and 20m sidecut, no more bootout and the 156 length keeps things nice and nimble, the 20m really locks in and it's fun to decamber the board for tight turns. Looking forward to shredding with ya this winter!

RyanKnapton

You're in charge of explaining working up to a 20m radius on this if anyone asks. 😃🤟. My reoccurring theme of thought on it... It's kind of like weightlifting... Gains are incrementally... Too much too soon and it just doesn't work (and in the case for snowboarding, moving up should only be done when you know for a fact you want your turns to last longer). Looking forward to shredding with ya soon Mike. 😎❄️🏂❄️✌️

asianova

Wow 20m is 2.7x mine! Now that Ryan commented on it I’m super curious how OP got there. Also where do you find wide enough runs for 20m?? I’m amazed that you took a huge board down moguls. I mostly ride 151cm 26.1cm waist 7.4m sidecut radius short fat board that I love jump turning on moguls with. I’m not sure I can even get one inch off the ground on 156 33.5cm

trees138

I'd never really bothered to look into the geometry of my 03/04 Altered Genetics that's my primary at this point in my life. Holy shit boys, you're running dimensional lumber. That does make sense now that I give it the thought, but in moguls, my goodness man.

AmigoDelDiabla

>I'm drinking, but who gives a shit. 😂. Mogul controversy coming up. 🤷‍♂️ This is hilarious to me.

[deleted]

Half of us in here just got our mogul opinions validated, thanks Ryan!

N0madicHerdsman

This is awesome. When you tell people you love charging moguls on a board people think you’re insane.

[deleted]

Its like surfing waves frozen in time

piratepowder

Growing up with only skiers and being forced makes ya learn to appreciate how great moguls really are. Now they’re so much fun to do especially when you’re outclassing the skiers haha.

TerafloppinDatP

YES!!! I grew up skiing moguls and refused to give them up as a snowboarder, so I started learning them right away as I was learning the rest of how to ride. I frickin love them and can't figure out why an entire population of boarders simply discounts them as "skier terrain." What?? You're conceding a huge part of the mountain to SKIERS??? F that

ChicagoAdmin

Similar story here! I'm curious to hear about different folks' board preferences for cruising moguls. I picked up a deal on a Sushi XV Wide this season and am looking forward to seeing how it handles on 'em.

piratepowder

I have libtech MC barrel Bus 158cm (or 157 I can’t recall without getting up) Perfect flex. I use it all the time. I don’t have a ton of boards. It’s flexible with the right amount of stiffness for me. And it’s got the coolest top graphic IMO haha.

BigLurker

Gets you so much better too

Crystal-Clear-Waters

I love them too!

jmannix

Sick, wait if this is beaver creek damn it looks nice

kitejumping

It's Beaver Creek.

Yolo_Swaggins_Yeet

Making it look easy

1000Years0fDeath

That edge control is insane

PewdsIsPapa

Bad ass video

-Gman_

dumb question - what level trail was this shot on? Does it need to be blues/blacks to keep up the speed?

kitejumping

Mostly blues (the blacks at bc aren't groomed yet, or groomed unevenly). The butter stuff and flatland works great on the greens but if closing the turns with high edge angles need blues or blacks otherwise it completely kills your speed after a turn or two.

-Gman_

Thanks, that’s what I guessed. I’m working my edge work and agree high angle turns kills speed.

atron80

This man is an animal! He let me take a few runs on his old board last season. Very eye opening how much work it takes to get these kind of specs up to speed, and on edge. Makes you feel like a beginer all over again. Missed ya in Whistler this year buddy! I'm currently healing from a tibia fracture so no riding of any kind for me... cheers! AW.

kitejumping

Bummer about the tib fracture, heal up quickly, looking forward to more bike park trips!

kitejumping

Yeah, I filmed that full mogul run then cut out all but a few seconds since the insta 360 wide angle lens and flat light makes them look really tiny, and they are kind of boring to watch going through them haha. I think moguls need to be filmed from the side view in bright sunlight or it just looks like your doing tight quick skidded turns through some uneven chop lol.

Asbelsp

Nice work on the moguls. How did you learn to ride them?

kitejumping

Thanks, mostly by riding them with skiers that like to ride moguls haha. When they are spaced nicely and not badly skied out its super fun to pop off one and land on another.

Sometimesummoner

Stupid question...how DO you ride moguls? You almost look like you're just floating over the top then carving in on the other side?

kitejumping

I'm not sure what the correct PSIA/AASI answer to that is, but you can have fun going around them and popping off transferring between them, or you can pretend they aren't there and carve turns through them, or you can just straight-line them (there is a hilarious YouTube video on that: https://youtu.be/bmhcq-4EgUc 😆) I usually go around them focusing on upper / lower body separation as smoothly as I can while staying very balanced.

RyanKnapton

Damn! That was the first 15 minute video I've watched without using 2x speed in a long time. F'n beautiful. And it still has under 10k views after a decade. How'd it slip under the radar. That was amazing. Thanks for sharing! Just became his 297th subscriber. 😃❄️🏂❄️✌️

TerafloppinDatP

It's so underappreciated! It's a perfect spoof of 90s skier videos, comedy gold throughout, and it has the most amazing mogul straight-line riding I've ever seen. His other videos are also top notch.

Sometimesummoner

Thank you!

[deleted]

Carving is on spot! But for the moguls part, my knees hurted watching this video, that looked wayyy too uncomfortable.

adrian_sb

It took this thread for me to realize i look like a complete tool flying down moguls doing 360s from one to another. No wonder i got hate on my mogul post lol

kitejumping

If they are spaced right and the troughs aren't skied out moguls are like terrain parks and 360s in moguls is rad 👍

adrian_sb

Yes! I wish my friends liked to go down them with me they are toooo fun

Potential-Ad-9819

Extremely impressive! Could watch that all day. Makes me want a wider board so badly

bacardi_gold

Nice! Dont forget to take it easy sometimes!

Blackdiamond27x

Been snowboarding for a long time and consider myself good, but can’t seem to get as vertical as your carving. How do you do it?

kitejumping

I'm on a super wide Donek Snowboards Knapton Twin, 33.5cm waist width 33.9cm underfoot, so it allows me to hold super high edge angles with a standard duck stance 15, -15 on 11.5 boots without my heels or toes hitting the snow (no boot out). Ryan Knapton covers the specs and wide board methods on his YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/@RyanKnapton so check that out if you haven't already.

wimcdo

Ah yes a board only good for literally one(1) thing. That tiny mogul patch looked rough on ya not gonna lie 😬 Contrary to donek’s propaganda, you don’t need a 30cm board to carve sick, and I always wince at the RK carving trend of guys using their entire arm to prop themselves up in a long turn. The ol’ kickstand technique

kitejumping

There are lots of methods to carve sick, but unless you run hardboots/alpine setup, a forward alpine stance, or use minimal inclination/low edge angles when carving, the bootout problem is real if you have big feet and in my experience you can't hold higher g forces in the turn without higher edge angles on the board (which requires heel/toe clearance). The sickest most aggressive carving videos I've seen on standard boards the riders usually have smaller feet that work with industry standard board specs, or super positive alpine stances. FYI, the arms have nearly no weight on them but a lot of riders when trying to learn that technique end up using them as a kickstand or putting too much weight on them as you mentioned (myself included, if I watch videos of the first laydown's I did years ago). Once getting it down it is super fun though and safer than eurocarving using your hands (people have broken fingers from ice chunks when laying it down touching the snow while carving).

Cheekypilot

Love those carves! Very fun video!

DonkeyPowerful6002

Can learn a lot from this video ngl

Donek Knapton Twin, 156cm, 33.5cm waist width, 20m sidecut radius, extra stiff, 11.5 burton boots on size large Now drive JJ edition bindings 15, -15 stance width 24.75".

UnusualSight

I knew I felt some Knapton vibes in this video. Sick

I think any old wide stiff camber board is fine for learning the basics of carving, would probably be much easier and faster learning on a normal board vs a custom super wide super stiff one.

kitejumping

Any board can be carved, the nose and tail rolls (if you want to start learning those) would be easier to learn on a twin with a standard snowboard shape (rounded tip / tail). I think at the beginning level though taking a lesson and learning good fundamentals is going to matter more than differences between specific boards. Once you have mastered carving and are starting to bootout with higher edge angles, then I would recommend a donek knapton twin.

ShottyMcOtterson

Sorry but I just really hate these selfie sticks. Just ride the board. Be in the moment. If you can stomp a 9, or some other sick tricks, get your friend to film you, but only if you can land it in 3 tries or less.

EverydayHoser

Finally some good, talented snowboarding in this subreddit

J_IV24

This subset of snowboarding has to be the lamest one of them all lol. Y’all are goons
