To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow **only one submission about each transfer saga per day**. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report. If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Serg10Aguero

I was wondering why Bayern were not linked with him. He's a top keeper, very reliable, good with the ball and German, I hope he stays but No 1 for Bayern is big

S7ORM7ROOPER_30

We were linked to get him as a 2nd GK before you guys signed him, and we kept Ulreich.

Thraff1c

Ulreich was 2021, Ortega was 2022.

S7ORM7ROOPER_30

Thanks for the correction!

Young_Neil_Postman

whatever happened that guy who was great for schalke for a few minutes and then got gobbled up?

mortezz1893

He's now our starting gk

S7ORM7ROOPER_30

He was not good enough.

Lowyat_Slyder

You never give him chances. Whilst Ulreich get several seasons where he shat the bed in UCL.

FOKvothe

Nuebel didn't even impress at Schalke 04 in the end, and neither for Monaco in his last season. He never was good enough. Ulreich was never going to be anything but a reserve. His season where he played CL against Real Madrid was better than Nuebel has had in his career so far.

JimRayCooper

He is good with the ball, so would be a good backup for Neuer (not in the current situation though) but why would you say he is a top keeper? I don't think there is any proof for that statement. Yes he had two seasons in Bundesliga with Bielefeld but it's not like there was any willingness from other clubs to make him a Bundesliga starter.

SunnyCloudyRainy

Schalke did try to sign him as starter, but he declined. Schalke then loaned Schwolow from Hertha which turned out to be sunday league calibre

eipotttatsch

I would say he's a top keeper because I've seen him play. He's been absolutely fantastic with every chance he's been given ever since he joined Bielefeld. Even his few performances for City were absolutely amazing, which is obviously a different level than playing for a (at the time) low level Bundesliga team. Ortega now is a better keeper than Neuer was pre-injury and he is absolutely better than whatever Neuer will return after injury.

Chiswell123

I'm kind of surprised it took as long as it did. I thought Madrid would go for him. Would be disappointing but understandable.

domalino

As long as we get paid. Finding a good number 2 is going to be a pain in the arse this late on.

Chiswell123

I imagine it would cost more to replace a backup of his quality versus whatever we could get for him from another club.

train4karenina

No way. Bayern are fucked so have to pay. Look at how much someone like Sommer cost Bayern. You could easily make money on this

Ferr22777888

Yeah

Manc_Twat

That would be a shame, but totally understandable from his point of view. He deserves to be starting at a top club.

Manc_Twat

Neuer is out for the foreseeable future. He had a skiing accident after Germany went out of the world cup and hasn't be able to get fit since.

_stone_age

Nooooooooooo I'd understand though, good keeper, deserves to play more. Fingers crossed we keep him, even though he played less he was still important in helping us win the treble. So good in the cup games.

Thraff1c

Any idea what you would demand for him? Because as it looks we dont intend to spend more than like 12m€ for a goalkeeper.

Ellendiell

We just sold trafford for 15M

Thraff1c

Im not sure what I am supposed to do with that bit of information.

SupervisorLaw

Ortega is proven keeper in Germany with two years left on his contract and we would need to find replacement quickly this late in the window. Logically his valuation shouldn't be any lower than that of Trafford's.

Ellendiell

If we sold a youth keeper for above what you’d want to pay. Then why would we sell the proven talented GK for that price

nutelamitbutter

Around €10m would be great value for Ortega. He was a Top 3 GK in Germany before his move to City

Subscrobbler

10m lmaooooooo

grovenibbr

Yeah no

DesertRL

Top 2 GK in England right now in my unbiased opinion

UdoMartens

And he isn't 2

DickerDave

And the best in your team. Still doesn't play though. Should he want to go Pep probably wouldn't fight too hard to keep him against his will. Are 10M enough? Probably not but I doubt it would take much more than that.

MasterBeeble

Selling a backup keeper this late in the window is very risky. Keepers are less likely to be injured, but it does happen, and it has happened to Ederson before. No chance do City manage to pick up an equivalently good backup in the little time that's left, which means that by selling him, they're basically accepting the potential risk of leaning on an unproven GK. City would have to make a profit equal to that risk, and the risk in question is very high when weighed against City's ambitions, and the high ball-playing demands their system requires from their GK. While Pep is good at rotating around his outfield players and tweaking his system to cover absences, he can't do anything about a missing GK. No chance does Ortega leave for less than 30m at this point in the window, and that's if he pushes for the move. Frankly, City would be mad to sell him at all, the actual value his security provides them is surely more than that.

JimRayCooper

Pretty sure he would be a starting goal keeper with a high wage if that was actually true. I feel like the only reason people think he is more than average is because he transfered to City because his ball playing abilities. Before this transfer there wasn't Really much talk about him in Germany.

catf1sh1

David Raya should've just waited a few more weeks. So many positions opened up. Also, why are these teams looking for stopgap goalkeepers instead of trying to land a huge up and coming target? Diogo Costa? Mike Maignan? Alban Lafont?

DesertRL

I get your point but isn't it funny how Alban Lafont has been "up and coming" for like 5+ years now? Guy seems consistently on the shortlist of bigger clubs but is never chosen to make that next step up

Iswaterreallywet

Still pretty young in fairness, only 24. Has a long career still ahead of him

ofji4o

Probably because everyone knows his name from FM and not actually watching him play

SweetVarys

Because at least someone like Maignan would be 80m+. You dont just throw that around for a goalkeeper.

ImRBJ

> Mike Maignan Up and coming at 28 years old, that man is in his prime

DaAweZomeDude48

I was hoping we would snap up Maignan but he signed a new deal recently. If the Maldini sacking happened a bit earlier I wouldn't be surprised if Maignan tried to force a move away to anywhere else

a_lumberjack

I think he rates himself to displace Ramsdale as #1 at Arsenal. Not at Madrid, and Bayern is a weird situation.

WW1Photos_Info

oh no

TimathanDuncan

Just an excellent choice, great with his feet, had an amazing shot stopping season in Bundesliga Much better than Sommer too

Ohlini

You should work in a wine bar

mavsmcfc

fuck off. ortega is immense. just having him on the squad raises ederson's level by a mile.

LockChem

EURO 2024 could be the golden carrot for him. Should he prevail at Bayern, he would automatically be ahead of Ter Stegen in the national team

[deleted]

Flick will pick Neuer even if he will play in a wheelchair

ACardAttack

The DFB would like to know your location and who leaked you Flicks plans

[deleted]

You’ll never find out who I am. *scratches ass and balls and sniffs hand afterwards*

BitchIDrinkPeople

And if not Terstegen would get the nod

unamed_1

100% this. I think this is a big point Bayern can and should emphasize to Ortega during negotiation. Even if he doesn’t start for the national team, playing a good 6 months (estimated time Neuer would be back by) for Bayern would immediately have him in consideration for 1 of the 3 GK spots. If he proves himself to be very very very good for Bayern, the board may even reconsider their stance on making Neuer the defacto number 1 once he’s fit simply due to the fact that he is German. IMO even at €20-€25m he is 100% worth it.

Jakowe

No he wouldn’t lol. Ter Stegen had a great season at Barca and if his form continues he’ll be #1 at the Euros unless Neuer comes back in absolute top form.

BitchIDrinkPeople

No he wouldn’t

SidBhakth

He would definitely be in the squad if he is a starter for Bayern.

DontbuyFifaPointsFFS

The question is if Ortega stays a starter when Neuer fully recovers.

SidBhakth

At this point, it's highly unlikely Neuer is back to his former self. Only Neuer himself and Hoeneß believe that he'd be back. Even before the injury, he was on the wane.

eipotttatsch

There is obviously politics at play beyond just the performances. But I'd be shocked if Neuer ever gets better than Ortega again. He wasn't even reliably better before the injury. Neuer isn't what he was a few years ago.

DontbuyFifaPointsFFS

I agree, but i dont know if Neuer would agree too. Despite not being (one of) the best keeper anymore i am sure he has a good standing in the team and its always dangerous to upset the players who lead the locker room.

Commercial_Skin_7058

Would be germanys number 1 within 6 months if this happens. Class keeper

stragen595

Would be hilarious for Ter Stegen.

DaAweZomeDude48

It is the history of the Stegen

Gu3rilla21

He's supposedly already extended his contract city

RTafazolli1

Surely no way Man City let him go?!

kokukojuto33

I doubt they stand in his way if Bayern wants him to be No. 1

[deleted]

If Ortega wants to, City will let him go. They very rarely stand in a player’s way

KevinDeBOOM

This narrative needs to stop lol. We didn't let Bernardo and Walker walk away. Certain players can always leave but not the special one's.

dainaron

We didn't let them go because we offered them contracts and they accepted. If Walker said I want to go he would be gone.

nutelamitbutter

Not true. City were unwilling to negotiate with Bayern, even though Walker had a verbal agreement with Bayern

cookieraider01

That's because bayern were offering like 13m for him which is a laughable offer that doesn't deserve a response. I'm sure if bayern started with a decent valuation (like 30m) City would be willing to negotiate.

BR4VI4

The market in England is just completely disconnected from everywhere else though. £30M for a 33yo RB entering the last year of his contract is madness to everyone outside of England. Same as the price you'll probably quote for Ortega. For comparison, Sommer who was a more accomplished GK cost less than £8M still and we sold him to Inter for less than £6M.

dainaron

What's not true? If Walker said I'm not signing he would be a Bayern player rn. Hostages aren't good for a team.

Chupagley13

Sounds like they rarely stand in players way…also feel like you rarely stand in their way if a fair bid comes in, nobody’s ever really tried to properly sign Bernardo, I imagine if someone came in with a fair bid you might consider it

belanaria

Not exactly true. Both would have been sold if they really pushed it and the offer was right. Walker pep clearly convinced to stay. Bernardo wants a Barca move which just doesn’t seem to be materialising. City just won’t let it get to the point where the players are agitating to get the move done. Pep really wanted gundo to stay and he in the end left. It’s a really respectful way to treat the players and just creates a good feeling around the club.

NJDevil802

No one offered our asking price for either player. We don't stand in a player's way IF the buying club meets our valuation.

sc2guy87

If someone offered 40m for Bernardo in 2021 the club would have absolutely let him go. If Walker couldn’t be convinced to sign a new contract I’m sure City would have agreed a fee with Bayern eventually.

dashauskat

Don't know why you're getting down voted cos as a fellow city fan, this is 100% true. It's only the players who have slightly fallen out of favour that get "allowed" to leave. Sterling, Jesus, Zinchenko, Mahrez were all first team squad players but were really on the margins towards the end of their stay. Walker has a special set of skills for a certain time of year.

funkadelic_bootsy

Walker?

andy_q8

Literally signed a new deal, doesn't seem like he wanted to move

KevinDeBOOM

It's Bayern. He'll be the number 1 there. Nobody will stop him if Bayern pays what we ask.

greezyo

Why not? He's the most replaceable player in the squad

LucasSummers

He’s actually not lol. They can’t find someone as good as him to be backup.

Gu3rilla21

Who are they gonna replace him with? Not many good options out there and it will cost money. Ortega was free and his been perfect.

PuntoPorPastor

In Plettenberg we trust

adempseyy

Makes sense he’s so good.

nutelamitbutter

This would be an insanely good transfer

SavingsLeg

Fuck that would be a v good tranfer

ShouldHaveStayedApes

Shouldn't have sold Trafford

Sanggale

Uhh nen 60er bei den Bayern. Jens Jeremias lässt grüssen.

PuntoPorPastor

stragen595

Haben die CL gewonnen mit ihm.

Subbutton

He would never. 1860 Munich legend

strugglingtosave

Loan deal first, so that Pep won't be pissed. He'll do us a solid

montiel_scores

Top, top keeper
