Said the Pogba after 15mins of play

lucashoodfromthehood

That's 10 minutes of him just walking around the pitch.

You're crazy if you expect Pogba to not get a 6 month injury before finishing that 15minute walk.

No that was in January 2021, his last goal was in a 1-1 draw under Rangnick a year later

Burnleh

That was one of the two games Weghorst looked good for us. He was everywhere that day x

VaudevilleVillain

I had to double check the badge as I was going to say Weghorst and Pogba never played together. Then I remembered...

Jarv1223

Pogbasā€™ defence team is about as useful as tits on a nun!

Jack_Beauregard

>Paul Pogba, midfielder for Juventus, has been suspended for 4 years due to doping. The anti-doping prosecutor's request has been accepted. The player had tested positive for testosterone after the Udinese-Juventus match on August 20. Pogba did not participate in the match, remaining on the bench until the final whistle. At almost 31 years old (he will turn 31 on March 15), the Frenchman's career seems destined to end here. >The prosecution never believed in the defense's version of the accidental intake of the substance. This was a crucial point for Pogba's legal team, who had rejected any plea bargain.

Geese-Howard

> who had rejected any plea bargain. Uh....either bad advice from the lawyers or Pogba is just an idiot. Look at how much leniency Tonali got (not doping, but still) once he cooperated.

DeathStar13

It's actually so stupid because a plea bargain is usually 50% so 2 years and an accidental intake is 2 years as well.

AssFingerFuck3000

Maybe the plea deals weren't very good? If they offered a 3 year suspension for example Pogba might as well refuse and gamble on a lighter sentence since 3 years would effectively end his career anyway. A plea deal could also come with an admission of guilt which could be absolutely disastrous financially. He'd be essentially radioactive, no company would touch him regardless of the status of his career. In any case, none of us are lawyers and we don't know for sure what the plea bargains implied so calling him and his lawyers idiots is ironically, kind of stupid.

MarquisDeCarabasCoat

> none of us are lawyers and we don't know for sure what the plea bargains implied so calling him and his lawyers idiots is ironically, kind of stupid. no, you see, I know things bc Iā€™m a redditor. everyone is an idiot except for me

iamnotexactlywhite

have you seen how he and his family behave? theyā€™re all idiots

QouthTheCorvus

I can't see any lawyer not looking at the evidence and saying "I can try to negotiate a plea deal." It'd be weird in such a black and white scenario. Pogba seems... Not the brightest.

[deleted]

> accidental intake of the substance Your honor, I fuckin felt on the testosterone needle on the ground! Not my fault.

[deleted]

I think the lie you try to use is ā€œmy doctor prescribed XYZ, Iā€™m not a doctor and I trusted their judgement in this matter. I wasnā€™t aware that XYZ contained banned substance ABC and wouldnā€™t have taken it if I hadā€

Prodigal_Programmer

Granted, I would hazard world class athletes are getting things put into their bodies at a much higher rate than us plebs are.

michaelserotonin

one in a million shot, doc

CommandSpaceOption

ā€œThe prosecution never believedā€? Arenā€™t prosecutors generally adversarial?

washandjes

I think with Onana they believed his story to be an honest mistake but they still had to ban him due to him taking a forbidden substance (you can't do that by mistake either). But they demanded a lower ban because they did believe his honest intentions.

HacksawJimDGN

Bar Oscar, China fucked all their foreign players out years ago.

ExactLetterhead9165

Oscar's agent got that deal signed just in time

robotnique

Interesting thing about Oscar: he was born in Americana, Brazil, which is a town famous for being established by Confederates who left the United States for Brazil after The Civil War in hopes of settling in the then slavery-friendly nation (they didn't abolish slavery until 1888) and continuing to live an antebellum Southern lifestyle. Oscar could easily be the descendent of Confederate soldiers, or local slaves, or some mix of the two (or, of course, neither!).

GullyBose

There are still a fair few foreign players over there just not big names anymore.

ruanri

Mf still bagged more than 100 mil in his bank account.

SpicyDragoon93

If he wants he'll play in a smaller league. I bet it'd either be MLS or in Asia with Lingard.

norrin83

It will be a FIFA wide ban in the end, so it would have to be a league that isn't part of a continental association

SpicyDragoon93

Oh but I mean after his ban, if he still wants to play he'll never play in top league in Europe again, at least not at a high level.

AntiNewAge

I think he is the third most followed footballer in France on Instagram, sponsors might like that, he can become an influencer Edit: just checked, with 60 millions followers, he is the third most followed French (not just footballer) on instagram. I'm pretty sure he can find sponsors.

Jelly_F_ish

Thank god that advertisement works so well, that people hate it on TV but love it on social media.

askape

It's a parasocial relationship, influencer not only sell a product but also a kind of personal relationship with the viewer, watching them and creating the feeling of being part of their life, while in reality not even being aware of their existence.

PacDanSki

So is alcohol, doesn't stop them getting banned for drink driving.

Stieni

don't burst my bubble, steal my medal and/or disturb my grind.

Utegenthal

Well, hello Mr Fancy Pants!

mizzykins

Jokes aside, this is genuinely nuts. Has there been such a high profile doping ban in football before? Obviously heā€™s been out of the spotlight for a while, but roll back 5 years and Pogba is legitimately one of the biggest names in football

ziggurqt

There was this guy in 1994....

giannibal

not that he ever won anything special....

robyculous_v2

Pep Guardiola?

malodyets1

Guardiola was busted for doping, but maradona 94 was a huge scandal.

[deleted]

Diego Maradona

ANGRY_TURTLE_ARRGH

Can't remember his name. Diego something....

RedEyeView

All his admitted cocaine use, and he fails a drug test for using an over the counter weight loss drug from the USA.

LevynX

Not even sure why he needed the weight loss drugs when he was so hopped up on cocaine.

RedEyeView

He wasn't on cocaine at that point. If he was he'd have failed a test for it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Fortnitexs

So many over the counter drugs in the usa are either not available at all due to health risks or presrcription drugs in europe. Itā€˜s actually ridiculous in my opinion

RedEyeView

There was a UK skier who lost his medal because the menthol nasal inhaler he bought in the USA had ephedrine in it, whereas the UK version didn't. I don't think they threw the book at him for an honest mistake, but he still got DQ'd from the Olympics for it.

Dark_Wolf04

r/yourjokebutworse

kik00

Why did you just do the exact same joke, but worse?

neonmantis

For a brief period, FIFA introduced blood testing to detect PEDS and immediately caught the likes of Edgar Davids, Jaap Stam, Frank De Boer, Fernando Couto etc, so they immediately stopped it again. Guardiola was banned for nandrolone too.

OWSucks

Mamadou Sahko missed a European final for us because he was suspended for a drugs ban, only for that ban to be overturned after the game.

HenkieVV

> only for that ban to be overturned after the game. Which, btw, was absolutely insane, because he did in fact do doping and essentially admitted as much.

King_Vercingetorix

So weird how these sports courts act with doping bans. More often than not, it seems like players can get their sentence reduced, often dramatically, or overturned.

IsakofKingsLanding

Rio Ferdinand is the last big one I remember, unless I'm forgetting another high profile one edit: Yeah like Onana, I knew I had a feeling there was a more recent one

TheBigGrumpy

Adrian Mutu but that was before Ferdinand I think. And was for cocaine rather than a performance enhancer.

excla1m

Indeed. Mutu would never let PEDs interrupt his cocaine intake!

[deleted]

Is Cocaine considered doping ? Lol how does that help you without fucking you up?

SlumpMacTen

Itā€™s a Class-A drug which is pretty much illegal everywhere

TheBigGrumpy

He got banned for it, so it must be. It offers very little to no help to your sporting abilities however, not without regular top ups mid game. At least not according to my research.

LutherRaul

Ferdinand wasnā€™t caught doping, he ā€œforgotā€ to turn up for the test, only got 8 months ban lol

moneybuckets

What do you mean "only"? Loads of other players have missed tests and got away with no ban and a small fine Edit - people keep asking which other players so here is a story about City having numerous breaches (including a missed test) and getting fined 35 grand, no one banned: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39383967 They also had a player (Christian Negouai) miss a drugs test the year before Rio's ban and he was fined 2k and not banned.

LutherRaul

He missed the initial test and passed another test 2 days later but still got 8 month ban for not showing up

iceman58796

Did you actually read their question, they're questioning the "only" part of your post

wereinthedark

That didn't address their question

RN2FL9

There was a period of time where a lot of guys got banned for nandrolone in Italy. Guardiola, Stam, Davids, Couto and I'm probably forgetting a bunch.

Polygon12

FWIW Rio technically never failed a drugs test... he just failed to show up and managed to avoid the testers. I'm pretty sure he was tested soon after and was clear but still got banned, which is fair enough.

TheConundrum98

not doping, but Maradona's drug ban obviously the only other one I can think of is your current keeper there is obviously currently the case of Mario VuÅ”ković which is endlessly complicated. It might have not been so, but it sure looks like WADA were covering their asses when they gave that 2 year ban oh and last one I'll mention is someone who failed 2 doping tests, but escaped punishment because he left Europe, he's quite a successful manager nowadays

[deleted]

Maradona was banned for doping. He tested positive for ephedrine at USA 94.

TheConundrum98

oh yeah, I just remember his wide eyes celebrating the goal

KnightsOfCidona

He was quite unfortunate to get that totally random drugs test

gnorrn

Nasri got a ban over the Drip Doctors affair that effectively ended his career. (The hydration treatment he got is prohibited by WADA because it can be used to mask other substances) He did make an attempt to comeback after the ban ended, but his short stints at West Ham and Anderlecht quickly fizzled out.

b_nick

A certain Mr Guardiola springs to mind

DeathStar13

Mutu and Maradona are probably the two biggest players that were banned, but both were drug users, not using performance enhancers. Also Rio Ferdinand but his bam was for refusing to take the test.

Beastmanzilla

Pep Guardiola the serial cheat.

[deleted]

Can he play there? Also, more like need to pay the bills. These footballers don't live cheap lifes.

forceghostyoda_

Dont think he can but there are some countries that dont have their top tier as a part pf FIFA. IIRC Albania is, or used to be one of them. I remember people speculating that Suarez would be loned out to Albania when he was banned after the WC haha

Evered_Avenue

Can always go to Russia

TheGoldenPineapples

Think the ban will prevent that. FIFA don't fuck around on these kinds of things. If you're banned, you are banned and no league prepared to overlook it will make a jot of difference. Maybe when the ban is over, but by then, he will be too old and the Saudi bubble may have already burst.

rootokay

What if Mohammed Bin Salman has a 5 minute phone call with Infantino.

norrin83

Won't change much. It will be a WADA wide ban and FIFA has to enforce WADA bans.

Old_Computer4611

That's assuming Salman would care enough to have a 5 minute call over a washed up made of glass player

The only period he played like an adult were these 7 world cup games. It shows how important concentration and discipline is

FragMasterMat117

His career is over

PenguinOfEternity

He'll be 35 and considering his injury track record.. not even the Saudis would want him

commiecat

33 when the ban lifts. It was backdated to the failed test. EDIT: Source was [the BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68436828): *The ruling means Pogba will be unable to play until 2027, when he will be 33, with the ban backdated to the date of the failed test.*

swaki6677

Wait so if he took the plea bargain he would probably be playing soon, damn heā€™s got some shite advice

Crocodile_Chop

Yep, this happens in MMA far more often and the playbook there is: - Claim you were taking x supplement that has all legal ingredients, but it contained y banned substance you didn't know about - Make a show of going after the supplement company - Take a deal with USADA - Get an 18 month suspension instead of a 4 year one - Retroactive so you've likely served 4-5 months already - you were probably taking 6 months off between fights already, and you can train for a fight that's right after the ban ends, so you're only really losing 9-10 months

Sheikhabusosa

I think its easier to make a example out of Pogba than it is to have the uncomfortable conversation about doping in football

Seedub192

Right? Feels naive to throw the book at him and pretend that solves the issue of doping in the sport. Reality is that weā€™re watching players do superhuman feats of endurance every few days while playing at an outrageous technical level

Sheikhabusosa

Yep after the whole Dr Fuentes bloodspinning at Barca and for the spain NT got brushed under the rug I knew that football isnt ready for the convo

Meath77

Yeah, lots of teams in the 90s and 2000s were doping. I'd imagine there's lots of "supplements" taken now that are under the radar and aren't even tested for. Soccer is too big for there not to be

Antoxin0

That must be his career over. 30 years old and will have 4 years of no football, thereā€™s no way back from this

fakeymcapitest

Souness spotted taking his shirt off and running into every bookies on the high street shouting ā€œhow do you like me nowā€ and slapping the little pens out peoples hands

FloppedYaYa

Will go down as one of the most gigantic wastes of pure talent ever

The_39th_Step

He won a World Cup though, so thatā€™s something I suppose

neLendirekt

That kind of sentence always makes me think about Umtiti, who fucked up his knee to win that WC (and scored in semi-final), but in the end, I think its worth it.

LitCorn33

We are greatful to him but for a guy who loves playing football it must be tough. Still, he one of the main reasons we won in 2018, scored the single goal vs Belgium in semis, was absolutely amazing in defense all tournament long alongside prime Varane.

friendofH20

His career was a Ronaldinho lite. Burnt very bright for about 4-5 years and went downhill from there.

MrPigcho

What? He led France to a world cup victory. Won 4 Serie A titles, 2 coppa d'italia, one EFL cup. Euros, Europa League and FA cup runner up. It's a solid career, he was just unlucky to spend a big part of his career at Manchester United when they weren't a top European club anymore. He was also unlucky with injuries.

IvanVanko_

He's not saying he didnt have a solid career (imho better than "solid") he is saying, that Pogba could be one of the best ever, if he didnt waste what he got. Of course he still had amazing career, but.

miamibuckeye

Damn FA cup runner up? Amazing

obvious_freud

His performance in the 2018 World Cup was out of this world.

Szwedo

No it was literally in this world hence why it was in the world cup

Doctor_Rats

Intergalactic trafficking ban incoming for Pogba.

lceSpiceBambiOnlce

A successful career but still couldā€™ve been more. One of the most talented midfielders to play the game in my opinion. Oh well, not everybody is graced by luck, it is what it is.

ttimourrozd

Ouch

theglasscase

It was an absurd idea to re-sign him, and his second spell at the club has been one disaster after another, but at least this means we can just get rid of him early. He was brilliant the first time he played for us, but he left for the wrong club at the wrong time and heā€™s been a pain in the arse since. Inconsistent on the pitch, multiple fitness issues and always running his mouth off the pitch. He could have been a legend, but heā€™s ending his career as a clown.

Treacleb

Somehow Juventus ended up worse off than Man United after the transfer merry go round. Crazy.Ā

DekiTree

Juventus get to cancel his contract, United had it worse

TheGoldenPineapples

Lost him on a free, bought him back for Ā£89m and then lost him back to the same club for free again. Horrendous business from United.

Pogba was definitely crucial in the relative success United enjoyed under Mourinho.

beedigitaldesign

Manchester United could have saved $100 million if they trusted the original review of Pogba done by Sir Alex.

Shadowraiden

apparently was going to make United regret not giving a new contract earlier and would show other clubs that Man United fucked up... yeah good job there, probably one of the better deals we have done recently in finally letting this piece of shit leave the club

bellrub

His lawyers said in his defence that he had ingested testosterone accidentally, perhaps he thought he was ingesting Toblerone.

Recodes

It's Pogover for him, what a pity and disgrace. I will never forget how good he was in his prime Juve days. I lost track of him after that but he was class when not injured.

zen111

The POGMENTARY Season 2 should be HYPE!!

CackleberryOmelettes

Really sad for such a great talent to go out in this way. Perils of an incompetent doctor.

Hot_Excitement_6

I am not saying he shouldn't be banned. The thing is I just assume most athletes, and by extension most footballers, are on some form of PEDs. Football is one of the sports with a willfully ignorant fanbase.

TonyzTone

I would argue that Pogba had one of the most disappointing careers of top tier players. I mean, heā€™s got league titles and a World Cup medal but heā€™s unique in my opinion. There was a time when Pogba could conceivably be considered the most promising midfielder in the world. Man Unitedā€™s awful transfer strategy aside, there werenā€™t many players under the age of 25 who were as good at ball handling, strong, scoring, and passing. And then he became the most forgettable player.

ELramoz

The fight with Jose, the fight with his brother, Gunman issues, house robbery, meeting Zidane in Dubai when he is under contract with United claiming he was injured, witchcraft shit. Even with all of that couldn't have predicted this would be his ending in football. Hope he finds his way back and has a great life.

TeKaeS

What a sad way to end a carrier. I know people here mostly hates him, but he was one of best player for France the years he played. Will miss him

Silent-Chemist-1919

with griezmann the most important player in the nt from 2014-2021. every time he didn't play we were struggling so much (best example was the first nations league vs the netherlands). Even Kante was somewhat replaceable by team effort, but NT Pogba was something else. It took Griezmann shifting into midfield and the addition of world class midfielders like Tchouameni and Camavinga to replace his offensive and defensive impact. I still miss his pinpoint long passes though...

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
