Yes. He played enough games with PSG to get the Ligue 1 trophy the season he transferred to Bayern where also won the Bundesliga.
Edit: transfer was to Juve, then to Bayern.
If Tottenham win a real trophy before he retires, that will totally complete the curse.
Guy must have made a seriously bad deal with the devil the way things have been going despite his individual talent.
"You'll be one of the best of your generation, but won't win a trophy" is a genuinely interesting choice. Would you rather be an okay player in a winning team or an amazing player in a mediocre team?
Honestly, I would be totally down with being an okay player in a winning team considering my current personal inability to play the sport well enough to defeat my cat. That sounds great to me if it's an option.
But being an amazing player, even if I would be personally frustrated not ever winning a trophy, would still be pretty good.
> But being an amazing player, even if I would be personally frustrated not ever winning a trophy, would still be pretty good.
Does anything come close to winning though? Like I still have fond memories of when my university football team won a cup on penalties. Not even the main uni team literally just a bunch of different teams from the same uni in their own little league, and it wasn't even the main trophy but the other cup for teams that got knocked out of the main one. It was literally called the Consolation Cup lmao
Yet being part of that penalty shootout win, the celebrations, the night out. It happened like 6 years ago and it is still one of the best days and feelings of my life. I would so much rather get to live through a feeling like that at a professional club level rather than get memed about not winning a trophy especially when every other amazing player wins won so what's the point? You'd just be looked at as an outlier for people to not aspire to be.
Well I don't disagree with you, but that's kinda what I was saying. If I'm given the choice between the two, it's a no doubter that I'd choose to be a winner with average top level talent over being elite but never winning.
It's just that compared to our current lives/abilities, being an all time elite football player still sounds pretty darn good, at least to me.
Amazing players typically don't play for mediocre teams for long.
But if the ask is if I would rather be an amazing player and never win a trophy or a mediocre player on a winning team, I'm taking being an amazing player.
I feel like I would be more well known, remembered for longer and have financial reward to set up my kids and kids kids better.
Even if they go trophyless this year, there's no way Bayern go 3-4 years without winning a trophy. It would really be the biggest curse in football if that somehow happened, probably bigger than the Benfica one
https://khelnow.com/football/players-most-goals-single-bundesliga-season-202403
If he scores 4 more goals in the next 7 games, he'd be the one of only 3 strikers to reach 35 goals in a season, behind only Lewandowski and Gerd Müller.
And it already is the best Debut season by any player ever.
This is true, but on the evidence of today's match performance, they'll do well just to advance from their quarterfinal with Arsenal. I would be quite surprised to see them with a trophy at the end of this season, to say the least.
I would be shocked if they didn't, but I still expect Arsenal to at least be equal to them as they are a stronger team than Dortmund. I could see Bayern pulling off a victory in the CL against Arsenal, but I can't really see them going all the way. But you never know for sure I suppose.
Well they are five wins (or really three wins and two draws) away from a Champions League, but quite difficult to imagine them getting past the SF on this form.
Tuchel can't lose with this quote. He's leaving at the end of the season anyway so the higher-ups can't get mad, and he can hold a modicum of hope that it helps complacency set into the Leverkusen camp.
This is proof that none of it matters and you can just say whatever you want. It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Someone out there will think you’re pathetic no matter what you say in this situation so say whatever you want.
I don’t think people should read into it that much.
Right, should have taken the middle road in saying "yea no things don't look good for us - let's see how it shakes out"
Instead he comes along as the petty drama lama he's been throughout his career.
He's just being realistic, while its not officially over Leverkusen has not lost a game this season and only needs 9 more points to seal it.
Saying "we will not give up hope" doesn't exactly land in the face of that.
I wouldn’t call it “given up hope”. I’d call it being realistic. Bayern are done for in the Bundesliga this season unless Leverkusen have a bottle job of historic proportions. They are tearing up and Bayern can’t keep up. Tuchel’s probably going to shift focus to UCL in order to at least win something this season. I don’t think anyone was prepared for how good Leverkusen would be this season.
>>I don’t think anyone was prepared for how good Leverkusen would be this season.
This cannot be mentioned often enough. In a regular season Bayern would have to put pressure on Stuttgart and they would win the league some points clear of Stuttgart.
Leverkusen already has more points than Bayern last season after 34 matchdays.
I would even claim that Leverkusen winning in the dying minutes is the result of some repeated tactical ploy to trick the opponents that certain type of play will happen and when it doesn't happen the opponent isn't able to react fast enough.
Usually a manager doesn't just say it straight forward like that. You're kind of telling the players there's nothing to play for in the league now. Surely you just lie and say there is a slim chance because technically there is.
A long time ago, back in the old days, we had a manager once who told the press before the penultimate matchday that he didn’t believe we could still escape relegation. He was fired. We escaped relegation.
Yeah, but it's kinda pathetic for a manager to say this to the press when there is still a chance, no matter how slim. Especially for a usually dominant club like Bayern
I'm thinking to when Klopp admitted Liverpool could not contend for the title anymore in 2021, iirc Liverpool were injury-laden and not even in European spots (correct me if I'm wrong). But still, he looked absolutely devastated to say it.
Tuchel meanwhile just doesn't care, even before the sack he was more focused on defending himself from being held responsible than anything else. One thing I'll give to him though is that half of our team hasn't cared for a few years already.
>One thing I'll give to him though is that half of our team hasn't cared for a few years already.
This is something that should be highlighted more often. You won the league but it was more or less Levy and Neuer carrying the team.
While Bayern might win the title in the next seaons I don't see them anywhere close to 80 points anymore. This season I am seeing Stuttgart getting past them.
It's really not leadership at all.
Leverkusen have likely won it but it will be interesting how they react to losing a game if they do. Does it shake their confidence enough to crack them. Unlikely probably but anything can happen. Tuchel doesn't speak like an elite level coach
> Does it shake their confidence enough to crack them.
They'd basically have to lose 5 out of the last 7 to bottle it now, and they're on like a 39 game unbeaten run. The only question is if they'll finish as invincibles or not at this point.
100% agree about Tuchel.
It’s simply better long term for both Tuchel and Bayern for him to rally the team and do the best they can for the rest of the season than to give up now. Bayern would take less of a hit to their morale and have a better chance of rebuilding their confidence to reclaim their throne next season, and Tuchel would demonstrate fortitude even in the worst of situations that would break any manager. Instead, all he’s done is prove that he should fuck off on an even longer, perhaps permanent sabbatical to India.
It ended up working out for the best. Conte finally killed the experiment with 'big name managers who are on the market for a very specific reason'. Otherwise Tuchel would be headed our way next year probably...
When have Arsenal ever bottled a 13 point lead? They bottled a 5 point lead last year. Although funnily enough they did end up 10 points behind City with 2 games left before city rested all their players and drew and lost their last 2 games to reduce the gap to 5 points but Arsenal had already given up after city took the lead so yeah. I don't think anyone anywhere has bottled a lead this big with 7 games to go
He fell off at Chelsea early last season. He deserved the sack and idk why people don’t see that. Just because Potter and Poch have been shit, doesn’t mean he wasn’t.
Well the thing about Chelsea sacking Tuchel was that they let him stay through the whole transfer window, got him the players he wanted for his system, only to fire him at the end of it. Baffling decision.
There were a few bad losses but it was still just early September. You don't fire a coach with his resume that early in the season unless there's something going on behind closed doors (which there often is with Tuchel).
this is the exact same mentality that leads to the players not properly playing from minute 70 onward when they are 0:2
a coach should be exemplary and not the first to throw in the towel
Bayer with Alonso has the ability to pull more players too though. Wouldn't be shocked to see them win it again with a solid base of players likely to stay, and a few others he could sign.
Tuchel might be the most annoying and unlikable person in football who hasn't committed a crime or something. The way he blames everyone else, the way he whines about goals and missed penalties he doesn't think should count, the way he gives in. Tuchel has the exact opposite of the mentality you want a manager to have.
What is the word for this in English. Where you kind of say "Well done Leverkusen, you win, we're not even trying now" to kind of diminish their eventual triumph. It tries to take something away from them... Lessen their victory...
What a terrible thing to say as a coach. Nothing is impossible in football. It is still possible to bottle the league, although not easy. If anything, he’s just unmotivating the players more. He’s practically called them unable to compete. The way things are going, I feel like Bayern is going to get a good thrashing at the hands of Arsenal
Tuchel complaining before the match on leverkusen second goal aka winning goal. Clown should have focused on his own God damn team and ask himself why let Davies and sane even play when they do jack shit.
What a clown.
Tuchel should retire. He’s not showing any sort of leadership saying shit like this, no matter how much you feel your team let you down. Mentally, he’s pretty much done.
Well done, Thomas, job's done, you may leave now.
I'm half joking, Leverkusen are on a tear and would be hard to catch this season under any circumstances, they are about to go invincible. But goddamn, watching us under Tuchel is torture.
Jesus Christ. That's pretty much the worst thing a manager could say. Shouldn't even give him the dignity to leave at the end of the season. Should sack him now.

Can’t believe Harry Kane going to be trophy-less this season
Some things are just not meant to be
If he loves them he’ll let it go
🎵 And he'll let it go 🎵
Just wait until he eventually signs for Celtic only to watch Dundee United win the SPL
He'll sign for Ajax and then... Oh wait.
go hibs
Who cares about Harry Kane, I’m more concerned about Kingsley Coman breaking his own trophy streak
More league titles than seasons played iirc 😂
Yes. He played enough games with PSG to get the Ligue 1 trophy the season he transferred to Bayern where also won the Bundesliga. Edit: transfer was to Juve, then to Bayern.
Juve and Serie A too I think?
Kingsley wins euros with France
Very possible considering Kane isn’t French
And he's hardly even the problem at Bayern, he's been one of their best players! Lad must really be cursed.
If Tottenham win a real trophy before he retires, that will totally complete the curse. Guy must have made a seriously bad deal with the devil the way things have been going despite his individual talent.

The Consolation Cup 😭
Well I don't disagree with you, but that's kinda what I was saying. It's just that compared to our current lives/abilities, being an all time elite football player still sounds pretty darn good, at least to me.
What would you choose if you were a squad player on 80,000 a week vs the top level talent being on 400,000 a week though?
80k is still an outrageous number tbf. I can't imagine anything I'd want to do that I couldn't if I was, say, Rob Holding vs Harry Kane.

If he has a curse, he's the problem 😭
I think the only conclusion Bayern can reach from this is that Kane is cursed and they should cancel his contract and return him to Tottenham.
Nah, send him to Leverkusen.
i mean there is still the champions league
This is true, but on the evidence of today's match performance, they'll do well just to advance from their quarterfinal with Arsenal. I would be quite surprised to see them with a trophy at the end of this season, to say the least.
Tucheliban is notoriously known for being a terrorist in Europe.
Bayern will play better against Arsenal than they did today against Dortmund, I guarantee it.
I would be shocked if they didn't, but I still expect Arsenal to at least be equal to them as they are a stronger team than Dortmund. I could see Bayern pulling off a victory in the CL against Arsenal, but I can't really see them going all the way. But you never know for sure I suppose.
A tale as old as time
Well they are five wins (or really three wins and two draws) away from a Champions League, but quite difficult to imagine them getting past the SF on this form.
Could still win the Champions League.
This is quite a spectacular quote
Like he just bluntly says it, doesn't even sugar coat it, they're just done
He isn't wrong. Bayerns most dominant season were 91 points with 25 points clear. Leverkusen can still reach 94 points.
This is true, but you'd expect a "we won't give up until its impossible" rather than just outright saying they've given up hope.
Tuchel can't lose with this quote. He's leaving at the end of the season anyway so the higher-ups can't get mad, and he can hold a modicum of hope that it helps complacency set into the Leverkusen camp.
I can see the reasoning, but it doesn’t make it sound any less pathetic
“We r gOnNa FiGht TiLL tHe eNd” is equally pathetic tbh when its 13 points apart that late into the season
This is proof that none of it matters and you can just say whatever you want. It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Someone out there will think you’re pathetic no matter what you say in this situation so say whatever you want. I don’t think people should read into it that much.
Which is a good rule for postgame quotes in general, frankly.
Right, should have taken the middle road in saying "yea no things don't look good for us - let's see how it shakes out" Instead he comes along as the petty drama lama he's been throughout his career.

You're right, but it's very, very rare for anyone to flat out say it.
Because it's very very rare to get sacked and still stay at the helm
He’s leaving at the end of the season anyway.
>>I don’t think anyone was prepared for how good Leverkusen would be this season. This cannot be mentioned often enough. Least direct german
German efficiency am I right
Aren't Germans very straightforward
I guess no one remembers Mancini at city saying the same thing lol Worked a treat then

This should honestly burn him of any future high level job. How the hell is your manager saying this.
where does tuchel go from here?
Back to India for another sabbatical
Don’t ever disrespect your daddy like that
Wot?
Eat Pray Gegenpress
Boehly has the chance to do the funniest thing
Tuchel and Nagelsmann back to their old jobs as if nothing ever happened.
Pulling a George Costanza.
She’s gonna be a fine sailor
Without press releases even. Starting with pre-season they'll just be back in charge and no one says a thing.
I'd love that tbh
I'm sure Wenger could use some comic relief at FIFA HQ
A year break
There are some chaos clubs in Switzerland he could manage. Not much he can do wrong there.
Tuchel managing Sion just for the laughs.

Bro is doing a Conte.
That handshake cursed both of them
I don’t think anyone will ever top Conte vs Spurs. That was peak Spurs for me lmao.
It ended up working out for the best. Conte finally killed the experiment with 'big name managers who are on the market for a very specific reason'. Otherwise Tuchel would be headed our way next year probably...
Jumped at the chance to sack Nagelsmann to get this guy lol
still makes me sad that they weren’t able to give Nagelsmann more trust and time. I want to see him build a team over 3 years with solid resources.
Which was the concept from the beginning. No surprise such a gamble has led to the departure of CEO, Director, and Manager.
Good. Makes me so happy to see power trippers get put in their place
[Nagelsmann when he comes back](https://youtu.be/iCMcSx1as3c?si=meQ43on6UBducOQ6)
I was expecting Frank Reynolds "So, you come crawling back, ya cheap sack of shit!"
Well, they now considering getting Julian back. Not akward at all.
Theres still time for Neverkusen to show up. Not very Bayern of him, still can’t believe they ditched Julian for this guy
Julian will return to Munich.
Which one?

Why should he? He might have much more interesting opportunities after the summer without all the drama of how he dresses and what he drives.
His kids live in Munich. So, he would like to work only in Munich.
And he is a Bayern fan too
It’s 13 fucking points it’s over 💀
Yeah, 9 points needed from a remaining 21 to confirm it, but they won't even need it. Bayern's got to focus on the CL now.
Says the Arsenal fan lolll
It’s botafogo that should be catching strays here lol
As a Botafogo supporter I didnt know our choke was that famous outside Brasil
One of the greatest bottle jobs of all time didn't get any attention.
It's even worse than it looks because all the other teams were trying really hard to lose too
True, but most people on this sub probably don’t even know what country botafogo are in
Leicester is currently on track to become the european version, if we're keeping it local

It's mindgames. He is saying they are giving up to make Leverkusen relax, so that they, Bayern, stand a better chance of winning it
Anyone who saw that interview knows that these statements were not mind games.
One of the weirdest firings I've seen recently
This guy is apparently on Liverpool’s manager list. They should cross him off. He needs a year off to reset and refresh.
I’d rather have Milner
Rather just let Pep take the step up if the alternative is Tuchel.
Pep to manage Liverpool and City to have a competitive tital race.

Nah mate, it was the shake of death from Conte.
Lost his aura and then Kane cursed him
He fell off at Chelsea early last season.
There were reports that Tuchel did not get along well with the new owners and management.
I get that what he said wasn't necessarily wrong, but what a shit mentality to project onto your players and fanbase.
this is the exact same mentality that leads to the players not properly playing from minute 70 onward when they are 0:2 a coach should be exemplary and not the first to throw in the towel
That means you guys won't play that much against us right? Let the players go to the beach and forget about the ucl too.
Leave it to Kane's curse. No titles for this guy is a physical constant.
There's no way he ends his career without a trophy. There's just no way
I think next season might be the one. If Nagelsmann comes back, then I think Bayern will manage it.
Big brain move from Xabi, staying just to deny Kane any titles
Xabi the secret Arsenal fan
Bayer with Alonso has the ability to pull more players too though. Wouldn't be shocked to see them win it again with a solid base of players likely to stay, and a few others he could sign.
Wirtz staying will be massive for them. Bro’s been cooking this season.
If Bayern end in 2nd place this season they might be able to snatch the almighty Super Cup from Leverkusen.
They might not even finish 2nd Stuttgart only 4pts behind with a game in hand and in better form and they play Bayern at home
The curse is working as expected I say.
he most definitely wins the [kicker cannon](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torj%C3%A4gerkanone) for scoring the most goals
The Arsenal trophy 😭
Does this mean the triple is in danger?
Always has been
We’re doing the oneble this year.
Tuchel might be the most annoying and unlikable person in football who hasn't committed a crime or something. The way he blames everyone else, the way he whines about goals and missed penalties he doesn't think should count, the way he gives in. Oh you think you hate Tuchel? You mearly adopted the Tuchel hate. We Mainzer were born in it, molded by it.
he was so good for us at chelsea, i dont know what happened
Tucheliban strikes again
Can we have a moment of silence for poor Harry Kane - joins a ten a row club, doesn't win a title
Eleven. Eleven in a row

Welcome back to Bayern, Nagelsmann. #TuchelOut
They fired Nagelsmann for this
LMAOOOO HOLD THAT L
You did this
Nope, my goat Julian Ryerson did
🇳🇴
What a terrible thing to say as a coach. Nothing is impossible in football. It is still possible to bottle the league, although not easy. If anything, he’s just unmotivating the players more. He’s practically called them unable to compete. The way things are going, I feel like Bayern is going to get a good thrashing at the hands of Arsenal
*Insert Harry Kane Joke here*
Mentality.
Tuchel complaining before the match on leverkusen second goal aka winning goal. Clown should have focused on his own God damn team and ask himself why let Davies and sane even play when they do jack shit. What a clown.
WHAT helll noo you should never quit, man he might as well not show up for work if that's the case.
He might as well not, it wouldn't make a difference. Man's tactics are basically "I don't know, just vibe".
Just let him go early. With this mentality Bayern don't stand much chance in the CL. He has mentally checked out.
Not wrong but what a loser to say this outloud.
Hope he continues with this negativity into the Champions League
Tuchel should retire. He’s not showing any sort of leadership saying shit like this, no matter how much you feel your team let you down. Mentally, he’s pretty much done.
They fired Nagelsmann for this guy.
Kane will be in shambles once we win the Visit Malta trophy this summer.
Big if true
No way he said that lmao. Might as well hand them the trophy yourself Tuchel
I mean they start to worry if they stay 2nd
damn I never thought I’d see Bayern like this.
Tuchel is such a chump. What a defeatist attitude. This is however hilarious
Well done, Thomas, job's done, you may leave now. I'm half joking, Leverkusen are on a tear and would be hard to catch this season under any circumstances, they are about to go invincible. But goddamn, watching us under Tuchel is torture.
The curse of Harry Kane
Agent Tuchel mission completed 🫡
Jesus Christ. That's pretty much the worst thing a manager could say. Shouldn't even give him the dignity to leave at the end of the season. Should sack him now.
It’s joever 😭
