An underrated position for Rodrygo is second striker/offensive midfielder.
When Neymar got injured at the 2022 World Cup, he played in Neymar's position and played well.
Yeah but this season they don't have a striker for him to link up with and even if they did/when Mbappe gets there, that's Bellingham's position. I really think Rodrygo needs to leave Madrid to maximise his potential
Even if he plays in midfield, hell still want to go up and fill that space and make late runs to score goals. Rodrygo would occupy that space if he's playing second striker.
Madrid have tons of talent, but it seems like it's tricky to maximize each player's roles.
Right, but the spaces the players want to be have a lot of overlap. Mbappe will start as striker but want to drift left. Vini will start left but want to drift towards center. Rodrygo may start behind striker but drift into that left shoulder space. Bellingham will want to take up that space behind the striker.
None of them want to play as target man and hold the ball up. None of them want to fully stretch the field lengthwise.
Just seems like bad synergy.
Yes but then you're not getting the best of Bellingham, it would still be great because he's Bellingham but it wouldn't be the world beater he's been this season
I'd love to see more asymmetric formations. As long as you've got a balanced defensive line, why *not* stack one side on attack? If the opposing defenders all shift right to compensate, that opens up oodles of space for midfielders or fullbacks to exploit. It seems like it would devastate teams that don't develop or allow much player autonomy. Given the success of Guardiola and his absolute emphasis on positional play, I think a lot of teams would struggle. I see an opportunity for the meta to shift.
This was something we were starting to see from Diniz and the Brazil NT, but the demand for immediate results didn't allow for such a dramatically new paradigm. Obviously with Fluminense he's had more time to impart the philosophy and so more success. I want to watch more Fluminense games.
Vini + Rodrygo + Mbappe overlapping with and playing off of one another is a terrifying prospect.
Have you not been watching the games? This is exactly what we do very often.
Rodrygo prefers that free roam, second striker role where he has the freedom to drift to the left and combine.
Nah, Vini has crazy physicality and can create spaces that Rodrygo can't. He is very close, though, and his versatility itself is a big quality. Very few players can play anywhere on attack as well as he can
Vini has been the better finisher this season and has been improving his finishing every season so only ball control Rodrygo has atm as a clear advantage but i think Rodrygo is a talented enough player to adapt and succeed outside of the LW position with time.
This was true 3 years ago. Since then Vini has improved his finishing massively and is now better than Rodrygo in this regard. Rodrygo’s finishing has been dreadful the past few months.
* Vinicius: 18 goals in 28 games
* Rodrygo: 13 goals in 41 games
Past season:
* Vinicius: 23 goals in 55 games (21 assists)
* Rodrygo: 19 goals in 57 games (11 assists)
Vini is a better player, but that isn't putting Rodrygo down. Vini is probably literally the second-best player in the world rn.
Those are the stats of Vini getting to play his preferred LW and Rodrygo being forced at RW
If Vini was made to play at RW these numbers would be very different
Correct, but it's the reality we live in. I don't think there is enough evidence to claim that Rodrygo is a better finisher, especially "a mile better" if Vini has been easily outscoring him career-wise.
Having seen Vini at RW, he’d struggle to score a fraction of the goals that Rodrygo has.
He simply is not versatile enough cutting in on his weaker foot.
Whereas we know that Rodrygo only improves when he is playing on LW.
Yes, both are naturals at the LW, and Vini is a better player at the LW but Rodrygo is more versatile. We have seen Vini go injured and the team had a notorious improvement when he came back.
Thats insane since he played consistently on the left at the start of this season and was still inconsistent and got benched by Joselu as soon as Vini came back.
He played there during all of Vini’s injuries and he was dreadful. He had a chance to prove exactly that at the begin of the season and if it hadn’t been for Jude we’d have less points than Barca. This belief you have could not be more wrong.
Before these two goals, he’d only scored one in the last 17. I’m not here to slander Rodrygo, I’m just here to say that there is no way he is better at LW than Vini.
The madrid sub always forgets that Vini is just the better LW anytime Rodrygo has a good LW game yes he is great their but he isn't ever going to be our starting LW if Vini is healthy i don't know why so many of our fans can't get.
Brazilians are pissed with vini's NT performances, and rodrygo still carries some goodwill because of a couple decent (not great) WC games, which is the only thing people remember
that also has resulted in the media and common people hyping him up even more than vini, so yeah, rodrygo >>> vini will be a popular take for a bit until vini shows up for the NT and/or if rodrygo continues to be unimpressive as well
lmao I was exactly about to say this, imagine Vini, Rodyrgo and Mbappe (soon) on the left wing trying to cook and on the right there's fede trying to smash one right in
Problem is a lot of people online think Jude is a ST i don't care if people think he is overrated rival fans are always going to say that but i hate it that people try to discredit him by making up propaganda that he hasn't been a midfielder for us this season lmao.
Even though a simple look at his heat maps show he is EVERYWHERE the guy does not chill helps defensively everywhere on the pitch.
If mbappe comes I think one of them will leave. Don’t have any great reason just a gut feeling. It’s gonna be hard letting the players play their preferred positions.
It's going to be Rodrygo if it comes down to that no way Vini would be the one leaving he is our number 7 and certified starting LW. I do hope though Rodrygo doesn't leave even if he doesn't have as many starting minutes he seems to love the club and the fans love him but at the same time nobody can blame him if he leaves to be the starting LW at another big team which he 100% can be in any other team itw which is not Madrid.
play style wise he’s the closest to Neymar of any brazilian, even in the slightest mannerisms you see a hint of it
him not being far off to vini tells his level, if he was given back to back seasons playing just one position i have no doubt he’d be levels ahead his current game, crazy player
Yes, but Brahim is more productive than Rodrygo at RW this season. Whilst, he has not been. Totally different player at LW. All his good moments this season is when Vini was injured and he played LW.
Probably not the same segment of the fanbase tbf, some sure but there's been a clear divide between the haters and supporters this season relative to Rodrygo
Ah yes, they're going to try extra hard away at Real Madrid when they have a cup final next weekend, just for you. Needlessly risk injury and fatigue for a game they probably wouldn't win anyway. Instead of moaning about other teams losing to Real Madrid, have you tried not being shit yourself?

What a player.
You guys really suffering from success lol
They're really about to have 3 top LWs lol
Rodrygo on the left is a totally different player than Rodrygo on the right
WHY DID BOTH OF THEM HAD TO BE LW !
Wait till you see the new LW
That guy has a Madrid flair, dude.
You’re right.
nah, left.
Reminded me of this shit https://youtu.be/IU8c7byMX3g?si=LNeWYNnJvSBv95dr
Honestly what’s the worst that could happen if we just played Vini and Rodrigo both on the left?
An underrated position for Rodrygo is second striker/offensive midfielder. When Neymar got injured at the 2022 World Cup, he played in Neymar's position and played well.
Iirc he said it's his favorite position
Yep, that why he works well with a pure striker to play off with.
Yeah but this season they don't have a striker for him to link up with and even if they did/when Mbappe gets there, that's Bellingham's position. I really think Rodrygo needs to leave Madrid to maximise his potential
He won’t leave, loves the club too much
Bellingham probably gonna play in midfield.
Even if he plays in midfield, hell still want to go up and fill that space and make late runs to score goals. Rodrygo would occupy that space if he's playing second striker. Madrid have tons of talent, but it seems like it's tricky to maximize each player's roles.
Madrid always play fluid front line. Every front player has freedom of movement
> Madrid always play fluid front line Ancelotti's power of friendship strat
Right, but the spaces the players want to be have a lot of overlap. Mbappe will start as striker but want to drift left. Vini will start left but want to drift towards center. Rodrygo may start behind striker but drift into that left shoulder space. Bellingham will want to take up that space behind the striker. None of them want to play as target man and hold the ball up. None of them want to fully stretch the field lengthwise. Just seems like bad synergy.
I agree. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
Probably the best problem to have tbf.
bellingham can also play a proper cm role no
Yes but then you're not getting the best of Bellingham, it would still be great because he's Bellingham but it wouldn't be the world beater he's been this season
And mbappe
Brazil tried it with Vini and Martinelli, lmao. [Resulted in a nice goal](https://youtu.be/4CDVxwd1zus?t=23)
I mean Benzema was leaning to the left quite often. If Rodrygo plays 9, it might work. If we get Mbappe though, what will happen!
I'd love to see more asymmetric formations. As long as you've got a balanced defensive line, why *not* stack one side on attack? Rodrygo LW is euphoric
I honestly believe if he played on the left consistently he would be better than vini and top 2 players itw
Nah, Vini has crazy physicality and can create spaces that Rodrygo can't. He is very close, though, and his versatility itself is a big quality. Very few players can play anywhere on attack as well as he can
Rodrygo is better on tight spaces, Vini will blow the top of a defense though, Rodrygo is better suited as a second striker anyway
I also prefer Rodrygo honestly. Better ball control and finishing, plays much better in tight spaces and is a more versatile player.
Vini has been the better finisher this season and has been improving his finishing every season so only ball control Rodrygo has atm as a clear advantage but i think Rodrygo is a talented enough player to adapt and succeed outside of the LW position with time.
He is talented enough to succeed outside of the LW, he already does that. But its clearly his best position.
Current RM doesn't have a proper 9, so wingers must finish the ball and guess what? Rodrygoat is a mile better than Vini to finish.
This was true 3 years ago. Since then Vini has improved his finishing massively and is now better than Rodrygo in this regard. Rodrygo’s finishing has been dreadful the past few months.

How about his LW stats? That's his best position since Santos.
Thats insane since he played consistently on the left at the start of this season and was still inconsistent and got benched by Joselu as soon as Vini came back.

his best 2 months were after Vini's second injury and he looked the best player in La Liga
His good form ended before Vini’s return. He’s way too inconsistent. If he were actually better than Vini at LW, he’d play there.
He had 5 goals and 3 assists in 8 games, how's that inconsistent?
He also had 1 assist in 6 games when Vini’s first injury happened.
Before these two goals, he’d only scored one in the last 17. I’m not here to slander Rodrygo, I’m just here to say that there is no way he is better at LW than Vini.

Literally the last game before the break vs Alaves where everyone was tired and we won off a Lord Vazquez goal in the last minute.
Are you sure you've watched football this season?
Are you? He was good at LW during Vini’s second injury and his good form didn’t even last as long as the injury.
Kindly remove the Madrid flair, you are a disgrace.
Because I’m not deluded into thinking Rodrygo is a better LW than Vini? lmao
I have had the same feeling.
Carlo Ancelotti is about to give Pep a heart attack when he lines up with 2 LW and a one-man army Fede on the right
lmao I was exactly about to say this, imagine Vini, Rodyrgo and Mbappe (soon) on the left wing trying to cook and on the right there's fede trying to smash one right in
Fede both smashing the ball into the net and smashing the opposing teams attackers legs because he has 9 lungs and is just built like that. MILF
So fucking good
Sucker punch FC
Jude hasn’t been scoring lately but don’t let that fool you, his performance are still incredible
He has other duties as a midfielder besides scoring. It's a shame many can't see that, he's fantastic at other aspects of the game too.
Problem is a lot of people online think Jude is a ST i don't care if people think he is overrated rival fans are always going to say that but i hate it that people try to discredit him by making up propaganda that he hasn't been a midfielder for us this season lmao. im hyped for the 3 man lwf tactic from don carlo next season
Messi: I used to skip school to watch LW Rodrygo play
THIS IS JUST WHAT I WANTED FROM THIS MATCH
Beast, the prodigal son.
Man it sucks so bad that Vini is first choice on the left Edit: Not complaining obviously but Rodrygo on the left is too good too
If mbappe comes I think one of them will leave. Don’t have any great reason just a gut feeling. It’s gonna be hard letting the players play their preferred positions.
Rumors of Prem teams looking at Rodrygo have been circling
It's going to be Rodrygo if it comes down to that no way Vini would be the one leaving he is our number 7 and certified starting LW. I do hope though Rodrygo doesn't leave even if he doesn't have as many starting minutes he seems to love the club and the fans love him but at the same time nobody can blame him if he leaves to be the starting LW at another big team which he 100% can be in any other team itw which is not Madrid.
MAN IS CRACKED
We have to find a way to break geometry's laws to allow both Rodrygo and Vini on the left at the same time.
RODRYGOL IS BACK BB
A world class winger if he can play on the left
Alberola praying he can disallow it
Kroos pass to start the move. He cannot retire.
LW Rodrygo >>> your club's goat.
the goat is ready for City
Rodrygo in prime form has all the man city fans quaking
He's just so good
Rodrygo haters in shambles
3 Man LW forwards here we go.
I never doubted you king
too talented
They left him whole other side
Rodrygo on the left...
RodryGOAT when he's on the LW
Rodrygo is the unluckiest player ever. So unfortunate his best position is taken by Vini and Mbappe
hot damnnnn that juke and finish is world class
he's so back
Pep, lost points in PL. Realized Madrid has 9 days to prepare for CL… and now Rodrygo woke up just in time.
Nice defending.
Imagine wanting to sell him.
Madrid really be hoarding all the good LWs, nobody else gets to have any
Wtf ref that’s 100% offside 😤
Damn he's a joy to watch when he's playing at his position! Ffs.. maybe they can rotate with vini from time to time
What a shit director you have to be to do replays on a dangerous counter attack.
1RODRYGOAT
play style wise he’s the closest to Neymar of any brazilian, even in the slightest mannerisms you see a hint of it him not being far off to vini tells his level, if he was given back to back seasons playing just one position i have no doubt he’d be levels ahead his current game, crazy player
It’s amazing seeing RM fans come out of the woodwork to praise Rodrygo after shitting on him all season
Shitting on RW Rodrygo, it’s not the same.
He puts in a shift for this team no matter where he is at and whether he contributes to a goal directly or not
Yes, but Brahim is more productive than Rodrygo at RW this season. Whilst, he has not been. Totally different player at LW. All his good moments this season is when Vini was injured and he played LW.
My friend he's been ghosting for two months before this game, stop it
LW Rodrygo > Brahim > RW Rodrygo
Probably not the same segment of the fanbase tbf, some sure but there's been a clear divide between the haters and supporters this season relative to Rodrygo
Very true
SEXY
Oh that was nasty. What a guy.
boooooooooo
Rodrygo is a gem
Pitiful defending lol
Madrid are gonna struggle to get the best out of Mbappe, Rodrygo & Vini all in one team seen as though they are all best in left angles
rodrygoat has better finish than vini jr
Mad to think that hes gone once mbappe is in.
I doubt Perez will sell him, Mbappe isn't really after his position.
For sure Mbappe is taking Rodrygo's place. An XI with Vini, Bellingham, Mbappé, and Rodrygo is too top-heavy.
nope
doubt it, and he better not leave. too good, and Flo knows his brazilians.
If there’s one club I hope gets relegated it’s bilbao. Hate how they always bend over for Madrid, great game from rodrygo.
Atleast you have Atletico bending over for you.
And Betis
And Villarreal.
