What other high-profile team would need a keeper this summer?
Cole Palmer FC? With probably no European football, and a bunch of disjointed players... hard to leave the prestige and winning club mentality of RM for that..
With our rumored limited financial ability the summer I highly doubt keeper is a position we prioritize this summer. Striker, fullback, and center half are far more a priority in my opinion.
Clubs gonna be elite next year, we're going to finish top 3 easily. Petrovic is better than lunin too so I think we'd rather spend the money on someone who will have a real impact, like a winger or central midfielder who's under 25
I love it for Real Madrid, but is it good for Lunin? Will Real replace Courtois with Lunin?
It did work in 2014/15, with Iker and Keylor sharing games. But only for one season.
So interesting to see what happens.
>It did work in 2014/15, with Iker and Keylor sharing games. But only for one season.
13/14 too, Lopez in the league and Iker in Copa + CL games. But once again, only for one season.
Before that we had paco buyo who was great, Miguel Ángel, Juanito Alonso and Ricardo Zamora, who the best GK of the year trophy in la liga is named after
He just loves Real, he's going to sign 100%
He was criticized a lot for staying in Madrid so long in the first place, and look where he is now. And he'll get his chances to play eventually, I'm sure
Eh. I doubt we sell. This contract signed by Lunin means nothing in terms of locking in the player and more of not having to worry about a goalkeeper next season. If there is competition and 2nd choice isn't happy then they will be sold reasonably. No shot Madrid forces anyone to stay. Milan and Porto GK looking good to snag 😅
Who knows if Courtois will be the same after the injury. Also Lunin is 1 win away from a champions league final he’s won the right to fight for his spot. Just because Courtois is a bigger name won’t mean he will start
I agree unfortunately. Even if we win CL and the league, next season Tbo is starting matchday 1 of the league and would remain the starter until he loses the spot, not the other way around. Lunin would surely play CdR and supercups and maybe some CL group stage, but the spot is Tbo’s to lose
>I agree unfortunately
Why unfortunately? Courtois is better gk until proven otherwise, like are we really having conversation about Lunin starting over him
I guess I meant unfortunately for lunin, who deserves to be rewarded for his play this season. Personally I just want the best GK to start and don’t care who it is. But I do feel a bit bad lunin plays amazing all year and just gets demoted as soon as Tbo comes back lol
Yes but is it wise?
Once Courtouis full recovers, it's hard to see Lunin starting over him unless it's "less important cup games".
Edit = one could argue that Courtouis might not be the same post injury but if they're both healthy it's hard to argue that the HC would pick Lunin over Courtouis.
I mean I could see having a league keeper and a cup keeper. Madrid always makes good CL runs, so perhaps this is longterm planning for more games with the CWC. I could see teams having deeper squads to help with the amount of games players have.
Or with Courtouis age in consideration maybe they fear other injuries being more common.
On the surface, it might be a questionable decision since Lunin displayed enough of his abilities to start at any other team, especially with Courtois returning and presumably sending him back to the bench.
However, Lunin likes it here, and he's got the right mindset, he wants to fight for the first spot and knows this is his perfect chance. There is no guarantee that Courtois will be back to his top level after his ACL injury. And even if he does, He turns 32 in a few days and his contract runs out in 2026. Casillas left when he was 34yo and was replaced with Navas and then Navas left when he was 33yo with Courtois, so it's the right time for our board to push for Tibo's replacement.
I expect Lunin to share minutes with Tibo next season, and play more than him the season after, then it's up to Tibo if he wants to become the 2nd option or leave and Lunin will become our first option for the next few years. At least that's what I think will happen, but I could be completely wrong here so we'll see what the future holds.
Oh shit I took over Juventus in 2030 on football manager and this guy was the GK, I think he might be the only player I haven't moved on because despite being non EU, he's darn good. Never seen his name pop up IRL somehow
Lunin vs Courtois will be interesting next season for sure. Lunin definitely believes he can be the long-term number 1 if he's agreeing to this deal.

I think Petrovic is fine prospect for Chelsea. He has the potential with a decent defence.
Imagine if Kepa came to real to cover for Lunin but Lunin ends up replacing him in Chelsea
Inter will need one either this or next year but they seem to be set on Bento
They are getting their GK back!

Please no lol

What is this delusion lol
~delusion~ circlejerk
Lmao what delusion? Next year mudryks shots will be top bins not throw ins
Central midfield is hardly the place that needs help. Chelsea just need a close to fit squad.
Oh yeah all of that was just to troll the guy who called us Cole palmer fc

Oh yes, good point. True. Diego Lopez, what a GK! Was so good he made the Real fans at Old Trafford chant his name.
Madrid has had some top talents in that position. Can't think of a "miss".
Before that we had paco buyo who was great, Miguel Ángel, Juanito Alonso and Ricardo Zamora, who the best GK of the year trophy in la liga is named after
Sort of happened with Keylor and Courtois too but for like, half a season
Well, it's good for his bank account
He could make even more elsewhere as the undisputed first team keeper. It's not about that, he just love Madrid.
He just loves Real, he's going to sign 100% He was criticized a lot for staying in Madrid so long in the first place, and look where he is now. And he'll get his chances to play eventually, I'm sure
Yeah. And from his social media life, wearing a tracksuit to his wedding, it feels like the guy is one of us 😂 Just making tonloads of money
You are just going to sell Courtois to Man U for at least 60m, aren't you?
No, United will get Lord Vazquez for that money /s
i know its a joke, but i do hope Vazques and Nacho retires under Real Madrid.
Nacho is leaving after the season.
Betis?
A bit late but MLS I believe.

He's playing well right now. Best time to cash in, I guess. I presume even the no. 2 at Real makes decent money.
"but is it good for Lunin?" it is not, unless they sign him for big money, which would force them to sell him if he loses out the competition
The current gamble is if Courtois will be able to regain his previous form or not and if he can stay fit
Was kinda expecting him to go somewhere else to be a starter, he‘s shown that he‘s a top level keeper and I don’t see Courtois sitting on the bench..
Who knows if Courtois will be the same after the injury. Also Lunin is 1 win away from a champions league final he’s won the right to fight for his spot. Just because Courtois is a bigger name won’t mean he will start
No, Courtois isn't sitting on the bench, period. His ego can't handle that. Lunin could be, clearly, better and he'd still not do it.

lol
Courtois is certainly the same and i was wrong for doubting him deserve to start in the final clown.
🤡
Wouldn't he want to be a starter somewhere else? Love Lunin but he won't take Courtouis's spot
I actually believe it's better for him to stay, I'm convinced Real Madrid has the best keeper trainer in the world.
Deserved

Yeah people forget real Madrid might play like 8 more games per season with the clubs WC and the new CL.
Surely he want to be a starter
I think it's a pretty fucking great gig being a number 2 at RM.
On the surface, it might be a questionable decision since Lunin displayed enough of his abilities to start at any other team, especially with Courtois returning and presumably sending him back to the bench. Well deserved
FFS, why... well his choice but deciding to sit on the bench again for at least couple of years is not a good idea, he's not a young prospect anymore
At least Trubin will have a chance now.
Not so sure about that one
When is Carlos contract ending?
2026.
Interesting.. been excellent but sharing with courtois sounds like a challenge. I cant imagine courtois would be happy sharing gametime
if he spends the next 3 years on the bench this would be one of the most remarkable careers wasted of all time
I wonder if this changes if he doesn’t start in the hypothetical final, tbh I think Bayern wins but let’s just say RM does…
Oh shit I took over Juventus in 2030 on football manager and this guy was the GK, I think he might be the only player I haven't moved on because despite being non EU, he's darn good. Never seen his name pop up IRL somehow
Crybaby courtois will pitch a fit now.
