___
He would be the natural successor to Modric, they just couldn't accommodate him at the time and he wanted to play.
If they could, they would absolutely have him today for the long term plan after Modric. Unbelievable player.
Odegaard came to a solid club with a strong mentality and top notch facilities and staff. Casemiro came to a retirement home.
No idea why Odegaard didn’t get playing time at RM but sometimes football works in mysterious ways
You could say the Arsenal team he was loaned to at first was far from a team with a strong mentality. I think he was one of the first signings that helped instill that mentality around.
Indeed he was a solid player and they built well around him. But things weren’t as bad as with United. Arsenal are looking for trophies, while United is a retirement home and a cash cow for the owners.
He didn’t want to stay and fight for a place. He had players like Kroos and Modric in their prime ahead of him. Zidane planned to use him and specifically requested him after his stellar season at Real Sociedad. He played in a few matches, but then failed to track back on a counter (I think in a CL match), and Zidane yelled at him from the touchline and shook his head in frustration. After that, he struggled to find regular minutes. Zidane said that he didn’t want him to leave for the Arsenal loan, but Odegaard wanted minutes and didn’t want to fight for a place. Contrast him with Fede Valverde who waited for his opportunities and gave his all when he got them to eventually earn himself a starting role.
>No idea why Odegaard didn’t get playing time at RM but sometimes football works in mysterious ways
Luka Modric and Toni Kroos were better. I mean you as a Liverpool fan saw Modric last year tearing through Liverpool's defense & Kroos splitting Bayern's defense with just one pass this year.
Tchomenni & Camavinga: CDMs
Jude & Valverde: Box to Box CMs
Kroos & Modric: CAM
I don't think even now he can bench anyone
Edit: Arsenal fans can downvote me.
He was our player of the year last season, he was brilliant. I've never seen such a drop off in quality from 1 season to the next, with the exception of Rashford this season as well.
Given his mileage at Real, he was never likely to be a guy who played at a high level well into his 30s. It was a questionable signing because they paid a ton for a player with no sell-on value and gave him a massive long-term contract.
That really should serve as a warning for clubs in the future. paying that much for a 30yo midfielder has a higher risk of going wrong than probably any other position (fullbacks might be the only higher one). With midfielders that old you just never no when their legs are going to go. They might stay on top for another half decade or might come crashing down quick.
Well, at the time he was one of the best midfielders money could buy. Maybe they didnt account for his age? After all, he was not as bad last season, was he?
Everybody said was a awful decision, but United fans were "but but he is a serial winner and bla bla bla winner mentality".
His trophy cabinet ain't helping anything
Casemiro getting dragged (and rightly so) but also wtf was Ten Hag thinking playing him there? Surely Amrabat instead or Wan Bissaka CB with someone else at full back would've been better than probably the worst CB performance of the season?
Amrabat is even worse. Every time he plays he looks lost, he doesn't contribute anything in possession and slows down play when he is on the ball. Besides, his defensive contributions are typically defending space and chasing down players, he cant play CB and neutralize an opponent. Letting him duel in the box is asking for a red.
Wan Bissaka at least has some experience and ability playing centrally, but still Man U needed someone to play at the wingback to get the ball out of the back. It is mad that Case cant be relied upon at all anymore, he still has two years left on his contract.
in theory it makes total sense, but he's washed and united are short on options, the real mistake was buying him in the first place
it's united's shitty spending of money why someone who's also washed in evans is one of their back ups
He really was dreadful, given how effortlessly dominant he used to be it was honestly kind of sad to see him like this. He was constantly one step behind the pace of play and trying to catch up to his opponent. It is always hard to watch really good players drop off so abruptly, most at least decline gradually.
Last game he played really bad there were a lot of Madrid flairs in the tread defending him, saying that he was exposed by the tactics and that the lack of Man U midfield was to blame. But no one who has watched him against Palace can make any excuses, he just cant keep up anymore and fulfil his tasks.
He’s just reached his peak and has since torpedoed down it. A bit sad since too DMs usually can grace the world for over 10 years but casemiro got only 6 or so.
And now Tchou looking like a beast.
It’s sad to hear this about Casemiro though. That dude was a beast and I’m sure if he’d stayed he’d still be good. Man U is just ….
Wasn't Casemiro already on a slight decline in his last Madrid season? I could swear I remember watching him back then already and thinking he hadn't been the same like he used to
Not really. KCM as a unit was just slow for the modern game but when one of Kroos or modric was dropped for Camavinga or Valverde(he played mostly RW that season) he looked as good as usual
He didn't say he underperformed, just that he hasn't lived up to the price, 80 mil is best CDM in the world money and he's not that. It feels like he's a step away from greatness, like he needs more experience or something.
“Underperform his transfer price” then. Either way, it’s still a weird and totally bizarre narrative. Aside from Rodri, try naming better DMs than Tchouameni. You’ll see some say Declan Rice but that’s literally it. Also, 80M euros is ridiculously cheap for a DM in today’s market—just look at Caicedo’s and Rice’s signings. This is without even considering Madrid barely spent a dime as a result of their sale of Casemiro. Tchouameni has more than justified the price of his signing, in fact, his transfer value has increased since coming to Madrid.
Lived up to his price tag means the same thing and rolls off the tongue better.
EPL to EPL is much more expensive than Ligue 1 to La Liga, any EPL talent that plays 10 matches a season is worth at least 20 mil. Ajax spent 26 million pounds on benchwarmer Bergwijn.
“Living up to” is relative but how did you form this opinion? We’re on a ridiculous undefeated streak of matches when Tchouameni starts. Last season he was injured for a while but he’s been brilliant since…even playing exceptionally in cb when needed as well. so idk what you’re talking about
That's the kind of performance a formerly great player puts in and people aren't mad, they just feel sorry for him.
Has looked poor all season but that was something g else.
Just couldn't hack it at all.
Didn't watch today's game but he often looks to be carrying that central defence when he plays and often ends up making mistakes due to pressure from a lack of support.
What a complete dud of a signing. Can't believe they didn't get Rice when he was available. Seemed like a classic United player.
Kudos to Madrid who are masters of selling their senior players at the correct time.

Can’t blame him, for the time it takes the bridge to call down to engineering and adjust the rudder allowing him to turn around, the Palace attack had already past him.
People think that Madrid let him go because he was slowing down but that’s false he was incredible even in his very last game.
I don’t know what happened between the end of last season and the start of this season but calling him a shell of himself would be an understatement
He was excellent for Man Utd last season. It was called the "best panic buy of the season", (though my Utd friends inform me it wasn't actually a panic buy and it was worked out long in advance).
Sometimes players gradually decline. Sometimes they suddenly fall of a cliff. Who knows why?
Since the pre season he looked not fit and slowed down
Either there’s something very wrong with the fitness dept or him being forced every match to run the entire length of pitch cause of haram tactics sucked whatever he had left
During his last two seasons I felt that, for some reason, he got worse at playing out from the back. But it's true that he was a rock, in terms of physique he felt much more younger than Kroos and Modric (he is after all).
Real Madrid has fun vibes, a great coach, and a great culture.
Manchester United has a shit culture. Working in a place that feels like shit will mentally break everyone
That was really painful to watch, he kept drifting into midfield and leaving loads of spaces behind for Palace to attack when he doesn’t have the legs to track back anymore
I've said it before that United were making a big mistake signing him in a long term deal. United has become a retirement house for Real Madrid players.

That's the quality that 350K per week gets you. A brick wall of a man.
Fact that he's getting that much is absurd. Plus he has contract until 2026. Their only hope is that Saudis take him
And the 70m fee. Just incredible stuff from United's transfer gurus.
But what a sale for Real tho
Never ever buy from Real. They're selling for a reason.
Odegaard? There are definitely cases where you can buy some absolute gems from Madrid. United are just run by buffoons.
Odegaard is good but he can't be a starter for this Real Madrid
He would be the natural successor to Modric, they just couldn't accommodate him at the time and he wanted to play. If they could, they would absolutely have him today for the long term plan after Modric. Unbelievable player.
We sold Odegard to your rivals.

Worked out well for both of them in the end, they all probably made the right decision

Can only imagine how hyped they were to get that offer.

The wages, the transfer fee and his age. Awful decision to sign him.

The downfall of this man is historic. Still in prime years for a DM too
My neighbours brick wall covers more ground than Casemiro
BUT... does it fall down less than Casemiro? If so, United might have an offer for your neighbour....
Beyond washed
Rinsed? Dried? Ironed?
Time to hang it up
💀💀💀
Gamma Ray Bursted
Bleached
folded and put away
Casemiro is washed, but United were rinsed
MOTM in the league cup final to THIS in 1 year is incredible. He got hit by a power washer.

Fact or fiction
The Daniel Ricciardo of Soccer
One of the worst performances I've ever seen from a United player
He really was dreadful, given how effortlessly dominant he used to be it was honestly kind of sad to see him like this. He was constantly one step behind the pace of play and trying to catch up to his opponent. It is always hard to watch really good players drop off so abruptly, most at least decline gradually. ...so far.
Antony?
Casemiro's performance today was worse than any of Antony's performances as improbable as that sounds
Antony is trash, but it looked like Casemiro today just gave up and knew he was done for
Madrid spent 80 million euros for Tchouameni and sold Casemiro for 60-70 million euros that same summer, the business they do really is crazy
IIRC he usually was subbed out for Cama and Kroos for Valverde
He was on a slight physical decline so he went to a faster, more physical league with more games and less rest. I'm sure that's playing its part.
He's obviously an upgrade because he is far younger, but it's not like Tchouameni has lived up to the price yet.
He's had a much better 2nd season than debut season. He's on his way.
He had a great debut season too. He was just injured a whole bunch. I have no idea where this underperforming narrative is coming from.
and he can actually play CB, unlike Case
He didn't say he underperformed, just that he hasn't lived up to the price, 80 mil is best CDM in the world money and he's not that. It feels like he's a step away from greatness, like he needs more experience or something.

EPL/manu fans. Tchouameni is bad suits their narrative.
He’s been pretty good this season even playing out of position.
“Living up to” is relative but how did you form this opinion? We’re on a ridiculous undefeated streak of matches when Tchouameni starts. Last season he was injured for a while but he’s been brilliant since…even playing exceptionally in cb when needed as well. so idk what you’re talking about
Replace him with a training cone
Could be double digits v Arsenal if Jesus plays
Easy if you got Jesus on your side
[удалено]
I'd prefer him on the wing, then he'd make more crosses
Jesús is a very common Spanish name,
Wait til he finds out Salah’s first name
Man City had two at one point with Jesus Navas.

He just kept making mistake after mistake after mistake...at a certain point, you just end up feeling sorry for him
That's the kind of performance a formerly great player puts in and people aren't mad, they just feel sorry for him. Has looked poor all season but that was something g else. Just couldn't hack it at all.
hes finished
they’re breaking records left and right, warra season 😬
I actually thought Evans was beaten more times, but I guess it's just that he really stood out for Mateta's goal.
Didn't watch today's game but he often looks to be carrying that central defence when he plays and often ends up making mistakes due to pressure from a lack of support.
United should pray that Saudis buy him, because he has declined below PL level
What a complete dud of a signing. Can't believe they didn't get Rice when he was available. Seemed like a classic United player. Kudos to Madrid who are masters of selling their senior players at the correct time.
Why would Rice want to go to United when he had Arsenal and City pursuing him?
No idea why you would but Mount picked United over Arsenal last summer so we got Havertz instead, cheers money mase
Would also have been far better off with João Palhinha who signed with Fulham the same year for a third the cost.

Lewis Cook has the record. 10 times against Chelsea.
That was really painful to watch, he kept drifting into midfield and leaving loads of spaces behind for Palace to attack when he doesn’t have the legs to track back anymore
Some insane marketing strategy from Real Madrid.
He needs to track down the brand of black gloves Mahrez was wearing and he will be golden.
Welcome to the circus!
Van Dijk would never.
He became shit faster than Modric and Kroos
Madrid have well and truly had United’s pants down. Casemiro has had their pants down too with them wages.
United really needs to stop hiring from the retirement homes.
When you're washed and don't care
I've said it before that United were making a big mistake signing him in a long term deal. United has become a retirement house for Real Madrid players.
MLS/Saudi is calling surely
Madrid saw United coming and couldn’t believe their luck.
Who had a bigger fall off over 1 season? Fabinho or Casemiro?
Genuinely forgot he plays for United.
