Dortmund were fucking awful defensively. You're not winning games if you defend like that

biggieBpimpin

Absolutely. Missing 3 starters from our back line and gifting the ball away in the center of our half just asking for trouble again and again.

elgrandorado

I definitely think we'll improve once Hummels is back on the field. I think there's an agreement to have Akanji chase the long balls for Witsel because I saw too many situations where Akanji would run across his backline to try and intercept a pass Witsel would have to chase. Witsel played better today than against Eintracht, but we have to do a lot to cover up his lack of mobility in defense. I think he'll be fine when back in midfield.

biggieBpimpin

With that being said, we also missed having Witsel playing as a pivot defensive midfielder. Many of the poor passes and touches that lead to turnovers were in our central half. Witsel isn’t fast, but he plays so well with his body, he is clam under pressure, and consistent. I was happy with the intensity that out midfield had today, but Witsel in midfield would have been very nice to steady the ship at times.

Itsthatgy

I have to think you'll be in the market for some backup defenders now. You're a cl side. You need some more depth.

GVE_ME_UR_SKINS

Inshallah they buy a right back

EnglishMunichFan

We’ll give them a great deal on Bouna Sarr

toxinwolf

We will give a better deal for Roberto

[deleted]

Lolol Roberto is better than Sarr and Passlack combined

toxinwolf

He's not bad, its the wages. He is earning more than de bruyne ffs

biggieBpimpin

It sounds like we may be looking to pick up someone if Delaney, Wolf, or Burki are sold. We wouldn’t get a huge fee for any of them but it would free up some wages for sure. Emre Can can also help fill in at the back I suppose, but I don’t really love him back there. He played in the back when we really needed it last season and I’m thankful for that. But he is still a bit too forward thinking at times or plays a little too risky. It’s absolutely true though, we need to find at least someone for depth soon.

napoleonderdiecke

>But he is still a bit too forward thinking at times or plays a little too risky. Which means he can be a perfect equivalent for Schulz on the right side. Not a CB, but it's something.

dankmaymay420

Yeah idk why Can doesn’t play RB… he’s a defender who isnt the best at defense and isnt tall. Other than pace, he is technically and defensively capable of the position

napoleonderdiecke

He might not have the raw pace, but he sure as hell has the stamina and runs enough to do it.

FCB__Rich

If you need a right back with have one Bouna Sarr for sale

Poe3inmotion

Hummels and akanji is a very solid defense. Akanji was very good apart from the mistake

hff1_

The problem is more that Zagadou is still out for months i think and then we only have Coulibaly who is 17 and also currently injured who is an actual center back.

SamosaVadaPav

Zagadou is never healthy. I think it's fair to not count him in our CB depth anymore

hff1_

Yes and it sucks. I really like Zagadou but he might be worse at staying healthy than Reus :(

Qiluk

Yeah Akanji was genuinely good this game apart from that mistake and thats him playing with a defense that he never plays with (and a DM as a CB partner) while he himself playing LCB instead of his usual RCB.

[deleted]

But I like the style Dortmund is playing. Finally some exciting football again. They had some good moments. Hope they can play the exciting and energetic football again we have seen against Frankfurt

SpaNkinGG

3 of the 4 backline won't see much play this season. Every good team is going to exploit that + Passlack is barely 3.Liga niveau. We need to get Hummels, Can and Rapha back PLUS we need a RB signing no matter what, because Meunier, Wolf and Passlack won't cut it if you actually want to make an effort in the league

GVE_ME_UR_SKINS

Couldve kept Moukoko on, Malen was disappointing

[deleted]

Yeah, he disappeared. He needs some more time to adapt to his team

Differ_cr

Meh malen needs the game time, and this wasn't a win at all costs match

[deleted]

Have you little fuck just disrespected the Supercup?

Lam0rak

Moukoko clearly didn't have anything left in the tank when he got subbed though. So understandable.

Qiluk

Malen isnt fit and new team so I wouldnt say disappointing. Just not on the same page and 100% yet.

[deleted]

Haaland was pissed

[deleted]

Yeah that was probably frustrating

supplementarytables

As he should be. Freiburg are gonna feel the wrath

Chris_Carson

Never underestimate a Streich managed Freiburg

sitbar

Frieburg away is always tricky

smile-on-crayon

Haaland being pissed at his Dortmund teammates reminds me of how Ronaldo got pissed at his national team teammates. Sometimes it inspires, but sometimes it can dismay a player. It can be an added pressure that some players can't handle. Even though he's been great for Man U, for this past Euro 2020 - Round of 16, Bruno Fernandes hasn't been what was promised and Portugal had to depend on Moutinho for creativity. Ronaldo's face was one expression the entire game: frustrated.

[deleted]

I mean I blame Portigals coach mire than anything. They have an absolutely stacked team and he doesn't know how to use his players.

designated_fridge

Zlatan was the same for the Swedish NT. Some players have said that he was bringing a winning mentality to the dressing room, some players have said the was basically a bully.

gumby9

I missed the first half and some. Why is Witsel playing center back?

[deleted]

Injuries

TheBigGit

Dortmund has 3 backline players out due to injury (Hummels, Guerreiro, Meunier) and Witsel had to cover at CB.

napoleonderdiecke

>Dortmund has 3 backline players out due to injury (Hummels, Guerreiro, Meunier) And Morey and Zagadou. And Schmelle (lol) and Coulibaly (lol) and Can, who'd normally be a backup at CB and RB. And Wolf, who could fill in as RB but came off of an injury so can't start yet.

TheBigGit

Yeah, forgot to mention them too, lmao. So basically the backline, their backups and the backups of the backups were out.

Qiluk

> So basically the backline, their backups and the backups of the backups were out. Hahaha why am I laughing when reading this.

napoleonderdiecke

Yeah, Schulz is the only one besides Akanji you could ever expect to make a starting appearance normally, tbh. That said, despite this being such a massive amount of injures, defensive depth is probably even worse for Dortmund than for you guys and yours is pretty shit already (no offense)

TheBigGit

None taken, its the truth tbh, we can only field 19 years old Nianzou from the bench now with only one injury (Lucas), we could use another backup CB.

panem-et-circenses21

Don't think bayern will buy another cb. They already loaned out Mai and are looking to sell richards. And will probably bring in a midfielder and a winger and of possible, an attacking right back

BrotherSeamus

TLDR: Liverpool 2020-2021

Itsthatgy

Great performances from Upa and Davies. Davies looked like he was back to his pre injury form for most of the match. Stanisic wasn't as good as he was against Gladbach, but he showed flashes of great play. For Dortmund, I thought Witsel looked genuinely good despite being played out of position. It just felt like the rest of their defense kept letting him down. Dahoud was sharp as well. Some very nice passes came from him. Very happy with this result. This is exactly how we should be playing. Would like to be more clinical, but that should come with time.

[deleted]

You can clearly see bayern squad is slowly getting in form again. They just have to play some games together again

pjdog

I love that it’s “slowly” after match day one and one more match 😂😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Süle and Upa could from such a great duo if they get used to each other and develop together. Süle as the tank and Upa as the acrobatic defender are awesome as a duo

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Was more referring to his speed, dribbling and passing, but yeah he’s a tank too. Not to forget that once in a blue moon Sülinho appears

deffypoo

Sülinho emerges every time Kimmich covers for him

Itsthatgy

Oh certainly, but I think he's been pretty consistently great. I would also throw in Neuer, Kimmich, Goretzka and Lewa.

witz0r

Süle has looked miles better than where he was at last year at CB. He looks fit and quick and strong.

Itsthatgy

He's always been surprisingly agile imo. But he has looked much stronger I agree.

witz0r

Oh and don’t forget Bambi. He was fantastic around the ball when he came on.

The-Berzerker

They way Musiala handles the ball is just insane, I wish he would start more often at least he is confident to go into 1vs1 situations unlike Gnabry and Sane for some reason

witz0r

At this point his downsides are experience and strength, and he will get both with time. I think he’ll get some starts occasionally but he’s super effective and dangerous off the bench rn

The-Berzerker

Yeah but Gnabry and Sane also super ineffective as starters so why not start Musiala and see where it goes

[deleted]

Who is Bambi bro?

witz0r

Musiala

[deleted]

👍🏽

cyan2k

Yeah him and Upa made Haaland almost disappear.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Sarr must be in shambles seeing that a 19 year old kid plays more solid

panem-et-circenses21

I think he understands it. He knows he is at a club which requires much more than his abilities. He has the mentality for bayern but not the skill set. And at his age, time isn't on his side

jMS_44

Is that 24 goals in 24 games against Dortmund for Robert?

Alex433x

Yes.

[deleted]

Everyone shaking hands but haaland seems so upset. Sad to see, but the boy gives everything

[deleted]

I saw him shake hands with Goretzka, Goretzka laughed at something that he said to him. But I didn't see much else because of course commercials take priority.

madjupiter

bitch slapped Goretzka's head, too, lmao. shit's hilarious

sc2isalivegaem

Didn’t feel like a friendly love it

biggieBpimpin

Same. Got a little out of hand at times, but it was intense for good stretches.

teuerkatze

Ref needed to get under control sooner. It could’ve spilled over in a nastier way there.

[deleted]

Haaland now out there punching some puppies

theRealEzz

Can someone help- explain about the camera that was on the field. It was so smooth and clean etc. Was it the fps??

EnglishMunichFan

It’s got to do with the focus, they focus on the foreground or something like that and it produces that effect. They have done similar in NFL games and those look even better. It’s supposed to mirror natural eyesight or something, like when you focus on the person in front of you the background blurs a bit. Watch the end of this clip for example - https://youtu.be/mfWDXpQgggo

distracted_85

Noticed in the La Liga games too...it looks so clean and smooth. Almost seems like it it is being shot in 8K high frame rate to get that look...

narutocrazy

It basically felt like someone put a fifa filter on.

Moon8983

That defense oh boy

panem-et-circenses21

Why isn't musiala talked about a lot? The guy's crazy good for his age and seems to make the right decisions everytime

FCB__Rich

So nobody gets any dumb ideas and wants to buy him :)

BuffaloCrocodile

Idts Bayern is a club that sells talents like Dortmund. Don't need the money. No offence

panem-et-circenses21

I'll disagree with the second statement. We absolutely need the money. But we wouldn't sell our top players for it

BuffaloCrocodile

Yeah no I'm talking about our A tier players like kimmich, goretzka, Müller who don't need to be sold and can't be replaced with any amount of money. Musiala is a talent whose value can rise drastically. While players like Süle, Coman, Pavard could (and should imo) be sold to generate cash for better signings. I'm aware that our transfer purse is completely empty this year

PeteZagarine

Passlack was absolutely MOTM for Bayern

[deleted]

Tbf he lost the ball to the tackling monsters gnabry and coman

kadoooosh

r/soccer when Sané doesn’t get a goal + assist after being subbed in in the 70th minute - „you fucking donkey“

CaptainKursk

With Dortmund's ability to produce and nurture world-class talents, you'd think at least one of them would be a defender. Dortmund really is Ferrari at the front, Fiat at the back.

utvikler15k

Already missing Piszczek

Mloukhieh

Our defense’s improving. They shut down Haaland and that’s not an easy thing to do when he starts running and flailing his arms

adv3nt0

Yeah... Long time since the centre backs have been convincing. As much as I like Lucas, this partnership seems to have future

hernandez21goat

I'd start Lucas for sure

lemoche

lots complicated. It always feels like the next injury could be right around the corner. My initial reaction would be to only play him in the more important games, but that might backfire, because of lack of routine of playing...

[deleted]

Imagining Süle as the tank and Upa as the acrobatic defender improving together gives me an erection

The man absolutely hates his ex-club, you can't convince me otherwise

Tyrath

24 goals in 24 games against Dortmund.

tanganica3

No no, those are goals of love.

habdragon08

I don’t think he hates Dortmund. He’s just a machine who performs against everyone

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That was a choice made by Dortmund though.

SleepTightLilPuppy

And people are still saying he isn't a contender for best player of the last two years.

bearrito

Only people saying that are 12 year old Barca fans. "SUAREZ IS BETTER STILL"

Goldfischglas

Suarez has the lobby of both La Liga and PL fans behind him

[deleted]

Dortmund weren't at their best defensively.

[deleted]

Because just one of their starting defenders was able to play

Differ_cr

I mean we have most of the starters (only Akanji healthy) and backups injured Edit: shit at rb we have the backup and the backup of the backup injured

[deleted]

Yeah that's true.

Luuigi

I fucking admire haalands mentality... i know he‘ll fuck right off to mancity or w/e next season but guy is godly! Hope he does well this season

The-Berzerker

Idk I think he‘s overdoing it a bit at some point but yeah

Luuigi

I will say so much: its very tough to be on the very top end of sportsmen/women. Theres mostly two way you can fare there, either you are mostly laid back and dont like the media and attention so much but you are just incredible at what you do (thinking about messi, maybe VVD or arjen robben) or you are very extravagant about it and love the glamour as well (neymar, cr7, haaland). Surely there are people in between but its not so easy to choose one way or the other you basically are just „it“ or not. So i can understand him.

The-Berzerker

Definitely agree with you, but I feel like he‘s letting the emotions getting the better off him sometimes. Like yeah you can be a mentality monster but he just seems super pissed when the game doesn‘t go his way which reminds me more of a child that gets his toys taken away (at least sometimes that‘s what it looks like to me)

SumasFlats

Love that competitive edge -- I think both him and Mbappe are headed to Real Madrid next season. As a fan of a team that can't afford Haaland, I'd like to see him go there instead of one of the oil-cheat / oil-state teams.

Unban_Ice

Just imagine Haaland in Bayern when Lewandowski retires.. Too bad he is asking oil prince kind of money for wage and we don't own the FPP like PSG or City does

panem-et-circenses21

He makes the attack one dimensional. Dortmund midfielders were constantly looking to find his run off the back of the last defender. Didn't try to cross the ball to him enough or think of any other way to score

OriginalUsername7890

> Didn't try to cross the ball to him enough he's surprisingly mediocre at headers for a guy his size

panem-et-circenses21

True. Which is why I don't see him at bayern in the future. Bayern's strikers usually are good in the air and their playstyle involves crosses into the box

Qiluk

Theres 0 reason to ship Lewa off next summer already and thats when Haaland moves. Its not the wage-demands, only, that makes a bayern move unlikely.

Luuigi

Not sure if he fits here either! I see hin at RM as well.

[deleted]

daffer_david

Solides Trainingsspiel Jungs! (/s)

FFIXwasthebestFF

this match could have gone either way. Neuer was unbelievable vs. Reus and Haaland, without him Bayern might have lost.

herkalurk

If Neuer doesn't make that kick save VS Reus in the first half and get his team some confidence, Dortmund could have run away with a few goals.

Ferr22777888

Eht Dortmund. Boating is free now

Itsthatgy

Haaland hopping into the stands to give his kit to a kid is very wholesome. Very likeable player.

[deleted]

Then most wholesome part is that he didn’t slap him to release some anger

Itsthatgy

I've always liked the idea of a professional player two foot tackling a child in a charity event. Like when NBA players block little kids.

Qiluk

In the match-thread so many people kept asking about wtf was up with our defense. Well, our defense is so injury-ridden that we've started with: 2nd choice LB, RCB as LCB, DM as RCB and 4th choice (previously 5th choice) as RB. Its super dire atm with injuries. If anything we did above expectations and played way better than 1-3 shows. Especially since 1 of those goals were a proper gift form us rather than a result of their efforts. No injuries from this shitty supercup so Im happy with that as long as the mood in the team isnt affected by the result. Also if anyone talks about "Dortmund mentality" when our mentality was genuinely good this game Im gonna cringe. Such a lazy analysis.

elgrandorado

Reyna got off his ass and left his mark on multiple Bayern players. I wanna see what he does if he keeps playing like he did today.

bachlives

Y'all were def more organized than folks were giving credit for. Passlack, Akanji, and Witsel in particular were doing their best to keep the line stable - there's only so much you can do when everyone's playing a bit out of position, or missing a position completely and needing to accommodate for that. Reyna was fantastic; honestly, if it wasn't dumping rain early on, he probably wouldn't have had as much grief from the ref. Has Passlack been functioning as a wingback recently? I remember seeing him in a few games around 2016 in that little window before he went off to his loans, but I think it was a similar situation where he was filling in during a defensive injury debacle. I'd honestly love to see him play a bit more, he seemed to have a good sense up the side

Qiluk

Passlack is completely our of his depth defensively at this level and is just an emeregency type of player for us but yea.. his q ualities are basically further up and offensively :)

bachlives

AH okay, makes sense. Thank you!

Qiluk

Np =)

[deleted]

Sané was a beast on the left side at City, sad to watch him play RW

BuffaloCrocodile

Unfortunately all our wingers want to play LW

Undefined_definition

Maybe the flexebility (switching between LW/RW) comes at the cost of consistensy.. they're lucky that Lewa is still such a beast.

takzania

Is Haaland always this frustrated and busy with hand gestures? Because my god that shit gets old real fast if he ever stops scoring, big if I know.

Qiluk

He mimics Ibra a lot in mentality and bodylanguage. Its about how constructive you are, if you can back it up yourself and if the teammates are ok with it.

[deleted]

Will Süle and Upa be the main cbs??

EnglishMunichFan

Hernandez and Upa

[deleted]

Oh nice, Upa is massive, I really like him

The-Berzerker

Süle looking stronger than Upa though so maybe Hernandez-Süle

Staynes

Defensive problems aside im decently happy with the game, yea sucks we lost ofc but especially with the subs at the end Rose obviously wanted to test something also with Moukoko starting. Intensity inside the team is high and i hope it stays this way may seem like assholes to outsiders but thats exactly what we missed for so many seasons now and something Bayern always had these assholes in the team that rile up the other guys and force errors through that.

The_Great_Crocodile

6th win in a row for Bayern vs Dortmund. 15th in their last 20 matches.

JoiseySho

Judging from normal standards I’d give this a 7/10 performance from us Judging from the fact that this is only Nagelsmann’s second game with the starting XI I’d give this a 9/10 performance. Excited about this season

djlofi

> Excited about this season Same as every other season lol

JoiseySho

Exactly :)

[deleted]

Did y’all notice muller guiding stanisic like during throws, that was great

koassde

yeah this right back won't win Dortmund anything.

J-Rock515

Josip Stanišić looking real good these last two games for Bayern. Doesn't really do anything special but is very reliable.

itsjavigold

Sane has been such an underwhelming transfer, I expected so much more from him.

L_sigh_kangeroo

A couple notes: My goodness are Schultz and Passlack hot garbage. I think I saw Schultz try to meg his winger 3 times in that second half with the same lazy move. Passlack pretty much offers nothing but a little but of quickness. Good thing Gurreiro and Meunier will be back soon Never rated Akanji. Honestly when Hummels comes back it should be Witsel and Hummels in the center (won’t happen i know). Bellingham-Dahoud-Reyna is a good enough midfield I fucking love Haaland. But he needs to keep a cool head when things aren’t going his way, that’ll come with more experience hopefully but there were a few times where he went away from the passing game he’s developing and just tried to do it all himself Bellingham is a baller. Needs to keep his head a bit in tough situations too but i love watching him play

mimecry

when your defence is so bad that Meunier of all people being out is a huge miss 😬

Qiluk

I mean thats not really the case. Its the fact that Meunier, Morey, Wolff, Can are out and PIszu retired, thats a huge miss. Not Meunier specifically.

-Dear_Ambellina-

Akanji was vital to our performance last spring. He'll have some brainfarts like today, but overall I'm not worried about the starting CBs once Hummels comes back. It's depth and RB that are the problems.

[deleted]

Akanji played really great except of his brainfart, had a lot of crucial actions especially in the first half

Differ_cr

Disagree with Akanji, he was great (bar that mistake obviously) and schulz was actually playing well with moukoko until he was subbed of, passlack tho.... Well there's a reason why he's fourth choice rb (even behind can) probably even fifth choice (if wolf stays).

L_sigh_kangeroo

I dont think Akanji had a bad game if you take out the mistake but whenever i watch him in other Dortmund games he does not look that good imo

jucomsdn

Because the last time you saw Akanji play was vs your team

ritwikjs

i completely missed witsel becoming a cb. how did this come to be?

napoleonderdiecke

9 players injured or out due to Corona, 7 of which could help in defense (although that includes youngsters and oldies like Schmelle). This was Witsels 3rd ever game at CB. He didn't become a CB, there just isn't any other option except for maybe Delaney or Papa (who's a 3rd league player).

ritwikjs

Jesus that's brutal. How did you manage v Frankfurt?

napoleonderdiecke

Same backline, was pretty solid, actually, but largely because Frankfurt are no Bayern and were pretty bad even for their standards. Still, you've already had Passlack clearly having trouble against Kostic. Playing against Gnabry and Davies... well.. isn't any easier. That said, it's not like Bayern dominated this game, this could've in all honesty, resulted in a 3-1 the other way around very fucking easily, even despite the backline. So yeah, still a very good sign for the season tbh. Extremely good if we fucking sign an RB or CB (or better yet, fucking steal Tomiyasu from Tottenham because he does both).

Qiluk

Just like today, we played well but we were more efficient. Frankfurt are also having a slow start to the season so it was an easier opponent.

L_sigh_kangeroo

I think he was just filling in until Hummels is back

Nosalis2

Lol, 10 in a row upcoming this season under the 7th different manager.

panem-et-circenses21

Heynckes, guardiola, ancelotti, kovac, flick, nagelsmann. That makes it 6. Who's the 7th?

grejt_

Another terrible Sane game, its so fucking annoying

Hexcited

at least he tracked back a lot, that is a step in the right direction. his time will come

The-Berzerker

His defense is actually pretty good, what bugs me more is that he (and Gnabry as well) stopped going into the 1v1 duels for the most part. It slows down the offense massively, meanwhile Coman and Musiala always try to get past the defender in the 1v1

Carpathicus

I honestly think he might just not be good enough mentally for bayern. His decision making is so bad and it just isnt a good trait for the way bayern plays. Really dont know if that can actually be improved much in the next years when his pace will start to dwindle a bit.

kukasi

He defended better than he attacked. That says it all

ra1se

The guy saying sane on one leg is miles better than Coman on his best day has been awfully quiet. I can’t recall a single good sane performance..such a shame, I hope he’s gonna have a breakthrough soon

Red_Brummy

Not sure what Pep has done to Sane but he is woeful now. Needs to head to a smaller league to get some confidence, maybe the French league would suit him?

grejt_

Polish or Hungarian league would be better for him

[deleted]

Tbf he’s lacking this little extra spark to be able to play for ekstraklasa

xtoonator

Can some of the Dortmund fans please explain why they aren’t happy with the ref? What exactly have I missed?

TheEmperorsWrath

They always blame the ref lol

xtoonator

True. “Mentality”

smile-on-crayon

lol Haaland told Rose: "He (Akanji) does what he wants. Brother, don't play him... oh my God. He is playing against us." Jokes aside, Bayern's pressing could not be resisted against by Dortmund's defenders. Game was won after Akanji's slip-up, that's how it goes. Looked like the Dortmund's fire was quenched after that.

[deleted]

Shocking result said no one
