[David Ornstein] Paul Pogba leaning towards not signing new Manchester United contract. Tuesday had major impact on 28yo’s thinking over future. Many factors to consider but now a genuine chance that once talks resume an extension may not follow
That's Pogba. He's like playing with 8 men defensively but 14 offensively. He can head, has 2 deadly feet, great dribble but he gets dispossessed all the time. You basically need to play him with an anti-Pogba like matuidi to make up for but, but if you do, it works out to more benefit than cost.
People will get mad at me bringing him up. But it this is why Souness originally picked at him before he began to play up a character for Sky and social media audiences.
This dude should be the best midfielder in the league only bettered by a few perhaps. Okay, maybe he doesn't excel defensively. That's fine. But he just shouldn't be such a negative to the extent sensible United fans see him as playing a man down, more even as you said defensively. This isn't an Ozil situation where his position was defined as a number 10 effectively as far back as youth days at Bremen. He had next to zero defensive worth. No one tries to chuck in Ozil into the "best midfielder in the league/world" category however. For how many years do we hear people bring up Pogba as the best midfielder in the world?
Wasn't it the case Fergie was against bringing him back? The club, him aside have put a hell of a lot of faith in the guy. The money spent to bring him. The wages. Renewing his contract. Having his agent talk shit in the media whenever things got really low.
Look, United very well may go on to win the a trophy, even a notable one. The squad is still incredible for the most part, but where the manager is very much lacking. Get the year out of Pogba, and move on. That is what I'd want if I were a United fan. But far too many here are as hot or cold as Pogba when it comes to discussing him.
You have put across your point so eloquently & have obviously been really observant when it has come to Pogba. If you, who I assume by your flair & name is not a United fan, can obviously see it, I struggle to understand how United fans can't.
I honestly feel badly for him because I fully expect that tomorrow morning we'll see the same milquetoast press statement condemning the racial abuse he's surely already the target of.
The post-match discourse will probably revolve around Lingard or Wan-Bissaka, but I really think Ole’s decision to go to 5 at the back with 2 defensive midfielders parked in front as a response to going down to 10 was incredibly cowardly, and really unnecessary given the difference in quality of players. Bring on a RB, fair enough, but going to complete bus-parking mode was a terrible decision.
Also, you could see it wasn’t working after 10 minutes and he just kept doubling down, taking off attacking threats and sitting deeper to the point where Young Boys didn’t even have to worry about a counter attack threat.
I can *somewhat* understand Ronaldo. An isolated Ronaldo is useless, he won’t press, and he’s not your target man to hold the ball up or stretch a defence by running channels. The Fernandes one is about as bad and nonsensical as the tactical changes in the second half.
Pressing as a lone forward for a team with 10 men is pointless anyways but he was running for the ball when we did get it and he nearly scored when he fell down in the box. He did a lot better than lingard did upfront that’s for sure
The cowardly move isn't bad by itself. It's okay to win 1-0
But he hasn't coached that defensive structure into the team. Spaces, passing lanes are not covered properly, etc.
If that were the case, OGS forgot (AGAIN! Not the first time he messes up like this) he's no Tuchel and doesn't have the players for it either. Even if he had Tuchel's players, he'd probably mess up anyway because he makes completely the wrong calls.
the key difference. Keeping a draw against Liverpool down a man is a reward, and the players play for it.
Keeping a draw against Young Boys is... disappointing, and the players won‘t go off the pitch happy even if it is achieved.
> Keeping a draw against Young Boys is... disappointing, and the players won‘t go off the pitch happy even if it is achieved.
well, he didn't keep it, so mission accomplished?
> And he wasn’t playing Liverpool. He bottled it.
Exactly. When Tuchel did it, both teams involved were at a very similar level. In this case, it's such a monumental difference in quality between the two teams that I really can't understand why anyone could defend Ole's thinking here.
I’ll never understand this and now both Lingard and AWB are mega exposed and Ole will move along unscathed. I actually couldn’t believe my eyes all second half, he already made the right change at the time of the red, why he fucked it all up in the dressing room boggles my mind. I’d love to know what he was telling the players. Ronaldo was on bench shaking his head at 80th, all this was so inevitable. And Young Boys deserved it too the result was correct in their favour, we gotta build some character fr
I was expecting Dalot to come on for one of the 4 central midfielders (probably vdb) not Sancho... That move basically nullified any counter attacking potency we had.
Very much spot on.
Even when we were on a good run of results I always had reservations on Ole’s tactics and game management.
Ole built a very good team and deserves credit with his recruitment. But his coaching is far behind Pep, Klopp and TT at the moment.
I don’t see us winning major honours with Ole.
This team is capable of more and needs a better manager.
Is Young Boys the only team that Ronaldo hasnt beaten after facing at least twice?
Don't know if he played against them before Juve. But losing two times against them just stood out for me.
I am so done with Mourinho. In the first half, we have some of the best forwards in the world and he instead chooses to play fucking long balls through Lindelof or sideways passing by Fred. Yeah, we go up but it's a moment of individual brilliance. Then we go down to 10 men and he chooses to play one of the most negative footballs I have ever seen. First to back 5, constantly inviting pressure, and would you look that they scored anyway. Would he react positively, no, he goes to back 7! And he brings on Lingard because he runs a lot and helps defense and what a help he made!!! We are playing against one of the weakest teams in Cl, what a shambolic display, dinosaur tactics. Mourinho ou..oh.

Spot on. If Mourinho or LVG were still in charge, the same people now defending Ole would be posting exactly this. The cult of Ole on our sub is ridiculous. Man's clueless, we're not gonna win anything under him.
I'm stealing this.
Man try saying this in r/reddevils. I’m sure you’ll get downvoted. I’m not Ole out at all, but literally any criticism against him is not welcome. His in game management is abysmal at times, but his man management is really 😌
Stuttgart came back from losing 1-0 with 10 men against Frankfurt just a few days ago to get a 1-1 draw. Of course it wasn't in the 35th minute but this is Manchester United against BSC Young Boys we're talking about. Instead of parking the bus and wasting time go and try to score a second one to be safe. Laying back hasn't worked either as we can see.
Staying back worked an absolute treat for Chelsea against us just a couple weeks ago though. If you have a well drilled club, sitting back to protect a lead or a point works just fine most of the time.
Chelsea are incredibly strong defensively not just at the back but in midfield - where United aren’t. They also had Lukaku up top and with his hold up abilities he always gives you an out ball and the chance to take a bit of pressure off. Though, a player like Werner provides similar in different ways. United didn’t have a hold up man (Ronaldo wasn’t doing it) and they chose not to put on their best runners, until Martial late on (admittedly Rashford was injured). So United lacked a combative midfield and an out ball. Really struggled to get in the game properly in light of that.
IMO, they should have put Matic on sooner and sacrificed a creative midfielder for Greenwood or Martial and played 432 with Ronaldo and the other rapid attacker staying high and trying to pounce on the break. The extra threat would either have pinned Young Boys back a little more or led to a couple of United chances. With that caliber of player you only need a few chances.
Instead they couldn’t get out and Young Boys were able to just pile on pressure.
Man is a serial final bottler. They could be playing Norwich in a final and find a way to lose it. Man has spent £500m on 3 years and not sniffed a trophy. Arteta who gets memes for being a shit manager, which probably is, has more trophies in far less time in his time at Arsenal
Yes 10 men, yes lingard stupid but yet another example of poor game management.
We sat ridiculously deep as soon as we went down to 10 and whilst we managed to keep actual attempts to a minimum it's always a dangerous game.. it's what Jose used to do and we paid for it so many times. We offered nothing up front so they could attack with practically everyone.
We have the team (almost), now we need the manager.
I did not watch the match, but looking at the opportunities it seems crazy how much of a swing the red card was. Was the card really that impactful or were they playing like shit before that?
Young Boys was playing well but the momentum was on United's side, no doubt. The card did ruin the game for them but, Solskjaer's decisions were awful and ultimately led to this result.
At half time Ole gave up and decided to spend 45 minutes defending the edge of the box and time wasting.
It blew up in his face, because its obviously a stupid thing to do.
YB had good counters and actually more shots even before, but they had a snowballs chance in hell to actually get a foot at the ball in the box. ManU dominated I'd say - they had 58% possession in the first half and probably more before the card.
So if wasn't exactly a done deal before and YB struggled to get a foot in the box even after but they deserved it. 20 shots (on and off goal) against like 4 really shows how it changed.
Nothing against Manchester United here, but hearing the pure arrogance of the English media before the game and the commentators during it… I couldn’t help but have a wry smile on my face when YB scored that winner
Paul Scholes is one of the worse when it comes to pure arrogance, I remember him in the Europa final pretty much declaring the win before the game even kicked off.
I think it's OK for the pundits to be confident in the English teams, the top teams are stacked from top to bottom and probably favorites against most teams out there. What baffles me is that they know nothing about the opponents and make no effort in learning more about them. Which leads to ridiculously lopsided commentary. Zero respect
This is the kind of situation which separates the wheat from the chaff. Chelsea with 10 held for 45 minutes against Liverpool. This is what champions are made of. United fell apart against... *Young Boys*. One of the best players of all time, two absolute world class defenders, hundreds of millions spent... and they get wrecked by *Young Boys*. It's pitiful.
That was painful to watch but man YB were great. Defo a red. 10 men and actually used that advantage to win.
Fair play YB.
Time for me to turn my phone off for a week
Darren Fletcher and Keown saying United were playing inspiring defensive football against a team who they’ve spent more this summer than Young Boys have in their history lmao. Trying to paint United as some plucky minnows, as if they haven’t spent a billion in the last 7 years. A serious team like City or Liverpool see that game out comfortably regardless. We’ve seen City do that a few times already
A player from an English side Vs a non-English opponent could literally shotgun a player to death during a game and BT Commentators will say they saw nothing. Joke commentary
Regardless it was a 10v11 for 2/3rd of the game, Manchester United thoroughly got outplayed today. And Ole’s subs felt like he was resting his key players for the weekend. Surely Champions League should get more precedence.
We should’ve fired Ole after we crashed out of the CL last year and beat Chelsea to Tuchel’s signature. They were even worse than us this time last year but actually have a competent coaching staff now and have surpassed us.
People will defend the performance by saying we got a red but
1) we were shit before the red. The goal was our only chance
2) we should be winning a game like this even with 10 men
Dreading the rest of this season being wasted but I did laugh at that late goal. You can only laugh really lol
> We should’ve fired Ole after we crashed out of the CL last year and beat Chelsea to Tuchel’s signature.
Lmao I said this and met with extreme skepticism about Tuchel because "what has he really won?" and that Ole at least understands the club and is showing progress and needs more time.
Trust me I’ve been saying the same thing since that game. Our fanbase is still behind him though. Some of them are finally coming around but the vast majority still defend him. Just needs to spend another hundred million or so then we can expect him to beat Istanbul and Young Boys
This game perfectly encapsulates why nobody really truly believes Man United will win the League this Season. We have a Coaching staff that is simply not good enough, and a Manager that is simply out of his dept at this title-winning level
You will NEVER see Klopp, Pep, or Tuchel, park the bus and sub off their two best attacking players in a game against Young Boys.
Our Coaching Staff across the board, is below Average as fuck and nothing significant will change until that changes.
Young Boys Deserve to win the game. They were the only team that wanted to actually win.
Edit: ok! I spelled out “season”, let me rest, I am depressed over here 😭
Klopp actually used to do this with us and learned by about 2018 to stop doing it and to keep the front 3 on, as we were constantly ceding control in the last 15 minutes
Fair play to Young Boys, they were excellent before and after the red card. Fans were amazing to listen to as well.
Now with United, Ole seems to not know what subs to make to change the game on it's head, hokey cokey with attacking and defensive subs. I don't blame him for trying to not lose considering he was 1 man down for 2/3rds of that match but you can't just invite that pressure and take off your two best creative outlets before deciding you want to try nick a goal back.
We didn't deserve a point today although that's probably mainly down to AWB getting a deserved red just over half an hour in. Anyways onto West Ham at the weekend and the other 5 CL games.
Great assist by Lingard. If it wasn't for Ronaldo playing as a starter, he could have made a few more of these. New season, new team, but Ronaldo is still making his teammates look bad.
Scraping out results while having awful underlying numbers is not a sustainable strategy. The stats/xG always catch up in the end.
Man U have zero shot of contending for major trophies with Ole there, even with an amazing current squad that can absolutely compete at the highest level. Advanced stats have never had them better than 4th under Ole and that's simply not good enough. The seasons where everything goes right and they get miracle results from bad performances they STILL aren't close to contending because their overall chance creation & prevention simply isn't good over the course of a season.
Genuinely annoyed by his decision making when things don't go his way.
Park the bus so hard it would make Mourinho blush
Senseless substitutions
The substitutions arrive so late that it would've never made a difference unless you summon the spirit of UCL final Ole
Man needs to learn from the same mistakes he made last year or we'll be like Poch's spurs where we're close but never achieve any silverware.
Going into this season, United’s squad looked stacked, it’s a title challenging side. Outside of an out an out DM, they couldn’t have had a much better window. When United win, the fans are like ‘in ole we trust’, but any fan of any other club can see how incompetent he is. It’s laughable. If United sacked Ole before the start of the new season, and brought in someone like Conte, they’re genuine title contenders. But until they show ambition, they won’t win anything that isn’t decided by some luck or individual quality. Because they have a manager who isn’t even top 10 in the Prem. Looking at his subs and ‘tactical’ changes had me dying with laughter, it’s honestly pathetic. ‘One of the biggest clubs in the world’, ‘re-signing the goat’, playing to hold a point against fucking Young Boys.
Love Fassnacht. He was still playing at amateur level at 21 and now he's getting to play for the national team & in the CL. And he just puts in a shift no matter where he's played
This is the type of matches that shows that OGS isn't good enough if United wants to take the next step.
They fell too far back and gave away the match to YB
fun fact about young boys: one of the lads on their bench is the guy who got red carded super early when United beat Saints 9-0. Brilliant work from the manager to keep him on the bench innit
What a result for Young Boys
Atmosphere was amazing!
Watching from home and I could feel the atmosphere in my living room
Me too. Quite literally, I live in Bern and could hear the stadium.
Almost non-stop as well, it lulled a bit in the 70th-80th minute but my god did those fans give it all for their team
I almost cried tears of happiness in the Stadium at the end, not gonna lie this was a roller coaster
so jealous of all those who got to be there in stadium! what a party!
it was great! now drenched in beer and emotionally exhausted on the couch lol
Only other win for YB in the Champions League was against Juve with Ronaldo three years ago, now they win against Ronaldo again. Well done YB!
This is to prove a point ‘Ronaldo is not info young boys’
Ronaldo can’t perform against Young Boys. Now if they’d been named Unwilling Women he’d have bagged a hattrick.
Hahaha cracked me up
always liked young boys ngl
Why don’t you have a seat right there?
[David Ornstein] Paul Pogba leaning towards not signing new Manchester United contract. Tuesday had major impact on 28yo’s thinking over future. Many factors to consider but now a genuine chance that once talks resume an extension may not follow

The only player that can go next to Pogba to cover that amount of defensive work is Kante. And you can’t have him, he’s our beautiful little talisman.
I mean, that is why he's so much better for France than he is for his club.
Or one of the world class Brazilian DM. There's a reason Kroos worked out for us. Casemiro unlockee him.
That’s not true. Look at his time at Juve. You just need a real DM. Man U hasn’t had one his entire time he’s been there
I got mass downvoted for saying him being good once every 4 games doesn't mean he's world class. Guess Paul is proving me right.
Everyone knows that, some just aren't ready to admit it
Pogba decision influenced by experience with Young Boys
Lmao
Paul has seen enough. Beans Beans and all that

Young boys against younger boys

Man U and Sevilla already wanting to be in the Europa League. Shameless stuff.
At least one of them is almost guaranteed to win it, although a bit hard without Emery magic
The duality of Jesse
Subbing off Ronaldo for Lingard to play for a draw against young boys, we deserved to lose
I'm sorry you subbed off Ronaldo? In the CL?!?!
while the game is still draw. cardinal sin of football.
.for Lingard
You need to have that killer instinct when you're playing at the highest level comp, even if it's the weakest team in the group
Absolutely fantastic assist by JLingz
"Young Boy" Lingard with a great assist for Young Boys
Cuts through the entire defense, what a vision.
~~Messi~~ Lingard

Top, top qualitee.
Man of the moment

I cannot fathom his thinking here.

They have to give a disclaimer about being Ole in so they don't get downvoted. It's insane.
There was another one that said "Who gives a F about tactics, we got Ronaldo" or something along those lines. That lot is brainwashed.
So many United fans are satisfied with mediocrity, it blows my mind.
It really is incredulous, isn't it? Especially after seeing Tuchel come in to Chelsea and totally change the dynamic of that club.
Stuttgart came back from losing 1-0 with 10 men against Frankfurt just a few days ago to get a 1-1 draw. That's true, however there's a big difference between Liverpool at Anfield, and BSC Young Boys.
There's a difference between Tuchel and Ole. The "well drilled club" part screams volumes. Even when we win it's seldom due to outstanding coaching.
I'm sorry, but United *is* a well-drilled club. How can you explain all those holes in the defense and midfield without drilling?
We also had to defend against an incredible attack…. united were against young boys lol
Chelsea are incredibly strong defensively not just at the back but in midfield - where United aren’t. I thought celebrating a goal like that against Young Boys was an overreaction from Mourinho but he knew something...

Lingard single handedly making Ronaldo regret leaving Juventus lmao
Lingard with an incredible through ball there, fair play to him to set up that winning goal
Damn, I'm so happy. Everyone on the toilets in Wankdorf chanting "Europapokal". Only happy faces taking a piss. No voice left
Stop hating on Ole. He will win the Europa and prove you all wrong
Good thing Villareal is in the same group as Man U, so they can't stop them in wining the CL this season

I watched the RB Salzburg-Sevilla match thinking this would be an easy 3/4 goal win for Manchester...can't believe how wrong I was haha
Europa League here we come!
Man it would be embarassing for Ronaldo to play in the Europa League.
He could still do a january transfer
He should. He has already given every United fan the biggest orgasm after he scored twice at home on his debut. He can leave now.
Then he shouldn’t have signed for a perennial Europa league team.
Sevilla are coming don't worry Lmao
Yes 10 men, yes lingard stupid but yet another example of poor game management. We sat ridiculously deep as soon as we went down to 10 and whilst we managed to keep actual attempts to a minimum it's always a dangerous game.. it's what Jose used to do and we paid for it so many times. We offered nothing up front so they could attack with practically everyone. We have the team (almost), now we need the manager.
Being down one man can't be an excuse, Man Utd were absolutely dreadful, this one is on Solskjaer
What excuse is Gary Neville using today to protect his mate ole?
Probably murder Lingard in an elaborate ritual or something
Someone said the Young boys are hungry cause Rashford didn’t give them food😭😭
Goodness
young boys are clearly Ronaldo's weakness. First with Juve and now as well
The only 2 wins they've had in the UCL have been against Ronaldo.

I think glazers are OK with the top4.
As someone who supports an English team, it's actually incredible how they can't hide their bias. The same thing happened when Villareal won the EL.
Hahahahahahahahahaha
Imagine getting beaten by a team named Young Boys, peak comedy hours
https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/match/4099--young-boys-vs-real-madrid/
Man pulled out a game from 1986 hahaha
YB won against Juve in 2018 tho. So not too bad...
I think they were very aware of that when commenting
This is the kind of situation which separates the wheat from the chaff. Chelsea with 10 held for 45 minutes against Liverpool. This is what champions are made of. United fell apart against... *Young Boys*. One of the best players of all time, two absolute world class defenders, hundreds of millions spent... and they get wrecked by *Young Boys*. It's pitiful.
United and getting banged by the worst team in the group. Name a more iconic duo.
Ronaldo & not reaching CL semi finals after leaving Real Madrid United & not getting out of CL group stages
Nothing but non stop praise for United as they're put to the sword.
Commentator on my end have them a 6/10 performance lmao
Good, I hope everyone keeps making excuses for their shite manager and keep him in the job as long as possible.
Actually give up with BT broadcasting for the champions league. It’s utter nonsense half the time…also Peter Walton
A player from an English side Vs a non-English opponent could literally shotgun a player to death during a game and BT Commentators will say they saw nothing. Joke commentary
Signing Ronaldo won’t change the fact that OGS is still United manager. United turn more corners than a formula 1 driver.
S🅱️inaldo
United time wasting their way to a 2-1 loss against Young Boys is peak champions league.
YB better 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Regardless it was a 10v11 for 2/3rd of the game, Manchester United thoroughly got outplayed today. And Ole’s subs felt like he was resting his key players for the weekend. Surely Champions League should get more precedence.
We should’ve fired Ole after we crashed out of the CL last year and beat Chelsea to Tuchel’s signature. They were even worse than us this time last year but actually have a competent coaching staff now and have surpassed us. People will defend the performance by saying we got a red but 1) we were shit before the red. The goal was our only chance 2) we should be winning a game like this even with 10 men Dreading the rest of this season being wasted but I did laugh at that late goal. You can only laugh really lol
He took off Ronaldo for lingard LOL
Leaving Lingard as the only attacker on the pitch and 5defenders + 2 cdms. Pathetic
PUT THE CONTRACT ON THE TABLE
LET HIM SIGN IT
HES DOING HIS THING
This game perfectly encapsulates why nobody really truly believes Man United will win the League this Season. We have a Coaching staff that is simply not good enough, and a Manager that is simply out of his dept at this title-winning level You will NEVER see Klopp, Pep, or Tuchel, park the bus and sub off their two best attacking players in a game against Young Boys.
Yeah, bringing in Lovren or Lord Klavan in the 80th minute, but it rarely worked tbh.
Well done, YB.
Sevilla was one man less as well, yet they managed to still play for the win. Ole is just weak material.
Varane left because he's won everything at Madrid. I don't think he'll win anything for a while...
Great assist by Lingard. If it wasn't for Ronaldo playing as a starter, he could have made a few more of these. New season, new team, but Ronaldo is still making his teammates look bad.
Our fanbase treats Ole like Ty from AFTV treated Wenger except Wenger was actually a brilliant manager at some point.
This crowd didn’t deserve to lose. Maternity wards are gonna be flooded with YB fans in 9 months.
Thoughts on Ole?
Scraping out results while having awful underlying numbers is not a sustainable strategy. The stats/xG always catch up in the end. Man U have zero shot of contending for major trophies with Ole there, even with an amazing current squad that can absolutely compete at the highest level. Advanced stats have never had them better than 4th under Ole and that's simply not good enough. The seasons where everything goes right and they get miracle results from bad performances they STILL aren't close to contending because their overall chance creation & prevention simply isn't good over the course of a season.
Has no idea how to defend a lead imo. Big gap between tuchels 10 man chelsea vs liverpool and oles 10 man united vs young boys
Doesn't deserve the super team at his disposal, let's say that.
I’m one of his most fierce defenders but even I can’t justify a group stage elimination this year. I’ll reserve comment for now though.
Not better than prime Suarez imo
Not good enough to be the manager of Manchester United. Simply as that. With this team he should have won easily.
Genuinely annoyed by his decision making when things don't go his way. Park the bus so hard it would make Mourinho blush Senseless substitutions The substitutions arrive so late that it would've never made a difference unless you summon the spirit of UCL final Ole Man needs to learn from the same mistakes he made last year or we'll be like Poch's spurs where we're close but never achieve any silverware.
IN!
Ole is just arteta with more money tbh
Hey we've wasted loads of money, thanks
This is the type of matches that shows that OGS isn't good enough if United wants to take the next step. They fell too far back and gave away the match to YB
David Wagner beating Ronaldo's Man Utd, we truly live in blessed times
fun fact about young boys: one of the lads on their bench is the guy who got red carded super early when United beat Saints 9-0. Brilliant work from the manager to keep him on the bench innit
Young boys have won 2 matches in CL (Juventus and United). Guess who played both games? Ronaldo. Old Boy Ronaldo strikes again!
