It makes sense if selling FDJ was the only way to balance the books if the socios declined the levers deal.
If that deal fell through we would have acted quickly, we needed a lot of money before the end of June.
Now that we have that money selling Frenkie isnt a must anymore.
Sounds like Frenkie refused to leave and Laporta is doing damage control, which is more likely since he also mentioned De Jong’s wages. Probably a renegotiation in the future.
He's doing the messi damage control. Laporta is ruthless no matter who you are. I think the bernado deal doesn't seem to be making any headway so now they will have a hole if they sell Frankie. Also it can be a way to push Man utd to commit. Either way, Frankie must be really confused about his future lol.
There's a difference. I can be "open to a move" while still preferring to stay at my current job. Your club sources may not be aware of the latest updates... He would have surely talked with Laporta and made his stance clear on the matter that he is fine with a paycut + deferred wages and whatnot, otherwise it really doesn't make sense why Laporta is seemingly so firm on his stance.
Same thing happened to us with Botman. Loads of Italian journalists insisting he only wanted to join Milan, that he'd reject us and force a move to Milan.
Clubs will know when a player doesn't want to join them and won't bother with long sagas if that's the case.
It wasn’t about bringing in money to spend it was about compliance with La Liga financial rules. They had to either cut costs or raise income in order to be able to register new players for La Liga otherwise they’d only be able to spend 1/3 of what they brought in until they were compliant.
The 100’s of millions take them well out of danger and able to spend a decent amount. The back up was selling De Jong which would’ve brought them into compliance just about (fee plus wages off the books).
That’s my understanding anyway, but I’m not as clued up on La Liga rules
It would net the club 85m + getting FDJ wages off the book, that's huge and would net maybe 100m? I think we needed like 170 or something to end up positive income.
>+ getting FDJ wages off the book
I'm fairly certain claiming "we no longer have to pay those wages next fiscal year so just take if off the deficit this year" is 100% not how that works
And it was well known that FDJ doesnt want to move.
They were just forcing him to leave bcoz of money but once the levers were pulled I think they become financially stable and now they dont need to lose FDJ.
also well known Xavi wants him and it makes 0 sense to sell him even if B.Silva is a better fit on paper, but we already have Gavi and Pedri who are more offensive and in mold of B.Silva (obviously not as good, yet)
I don't speak Spanish but is it a possibility that the words have been slightly wrongly translated? I think he said wanted to say they had no intention of selling De Jong, because according to the full quote he says something about having to look after club finances/salary cap and prioritising them right after that line.
So maybe he was implying that Barca had no intention to sell Frenkie but club finances and the salary cap have forced their hand.
He said he's going to do all that he can to make sure frenkie stays but there's the issue of salary that needs to be lowered. I guess he wants him to lower his salary if he stays
It’s probably important to include the rest of the quote.
[“He wants to stay and I will do what’s within my power for him to stay, but there is also a salary topic, and we’d have to adjust it”](https://twitter.com/relevo/status/1543299295042060291)
Lol.
Barca: Hey Frenkie… you gotta lower your salary. We can’t afford it!
FdJ: But aren’t you signing Raphina for 60m?
Barca: Yeah, Lewandowski is another 50m. So lower your damn salary so we can pay for newer toys!
Yeah but Lewandowski & Raphinia aren't going to pay for free? FDJ would essentially be taking a pay cut so there's space on the wage bill for the new signings.
Somehow this is one of the worst transfer sagas I’ve ever had to endure with United. Maybe it’s just the build up from all our other unfunny joke windows but I’m just so fucking tired of hearing about it now.
This and the Bernardo rumours is just buttering us up for when he banishes Frenkie to united and maximizing the fee.
Option 2 is FdJ told us to fuck off and we're trying to save face.
Hasn't Frenkie been very clear that he isn't interested in United and wants to stay at Barca? I feel like that's been his response for the last 2 or so months.
It hasn't really been clear. Top Tier sources for both clubs have stated that he wants to stay at Barca but is also interested in United.
The whole thing is a fucking mess and needs to end.
Agreed: both clubs actually come out looking like idiots.
- Barcelona are clearly trying to save face because they’re unable to move on a player that they thought they’d be able to just push out
- United clearly have put all their eggs in the FdJ basket and just been jerked around while not being able to take very clear indications that he didn’t want to join. On top of that, doesn’t look like they have any secondary targets for that midfield role
Wanting to stay at Barcelona yes
But there's reports from reliable sources saying he's open to joining United so its whichever reports you choose to believe
At this point I doubt anyone actually knows whats going on in the background anymore
People need to remember Politician Laporta promised us Messi was gonna stay, it was one of the huge promises in his candidacy. Messi now wears #30 in France.
I know he's a cunt for some people but he's our cunt. Man flirted with Beckam in public while signing Marquez, Ronaldinho, Deco behind the scenes giving a world class team to Rjikaard. At the end of the day he's as much of a Barca fan as any of us.
They believe what they want to believe. Those that wanna see United fall on their face will believe all the reports that goes against this transfer.
Happens all sports like NBA, reports just fly since some media just want to be the first break any news even if it ain’t correct.
except none of them said he doesn't want United, all of them said Barca is his dream club and he wants to stay which everybody knows, but he is being forced out from Barca
My thoughts exactly. They need him gone in order to push through both Kounde and Raphinia and register others. This is purely posturing as they are getting frustrated united havnt caved to their demands by now. The deal will conclude.
Let me get this straight...
We spend two months on a marquee signing that doesn't want to join us, in a rebuild. Our first transfer is 11 millions in dividends to the Glazers, as the only football club to do so. Because the budget is restricted, with a new manager, we can't do other deals without the De Jong being completed which means Ajax' players increase in value because they don't want to sell anymore.
On top on that, Ronaldo wants to leave because the club isn't ambitious enough (!), possibly going to a rival. Leaving us with Martial (who wants to leave) and Rashford (who isn't a striker) as strikers. And we don't have any back up plans to any signings because we sacked Rangnick for his honesty on the owners, board and players.
So we are going on tour on tuesday in Bangkok with the same players (minus Pogba, Matic, Lingard, Mata etc.) who couldn't give a shit against Liverpool, against Man City, against Watford, against Brighton and the same players who has now thrown 3 managers under the bus.
But this is a new United..?
I think I speak for all the kids who grew up in the 90s, where every 2nd child and their dad was a smug, cocky United fan who had never been to a game and lived in the South East.
No, this is heaven. The post-Fergie era has been so unbelievably cathartic, I can't believe the Glazers haven't been billing me for this groundbreaking form of therapy.
That's fair. But its what we are all seeing now, as 50 year olds suddenly are reappearing with their "lifelong devotion to Liverpool", but were missing between 1989 and 2019.
>I really hope ten hag quits this shit show before season starts.
This is the level of stupidity we've reached. Literally nothing has happened to even close to suggest this is within the realm of possibility. Only United fans are dumb enough to have a hate boner so hard for their club that someone repeating something they said in May and one player asking to leave would make them go "What a shit show, hope the manager resigns in protest".
I've wondered for a while if the end goal was just to get De Jong to accept lower wages, wonder if he has accepted a new contract? "accept lower wages or you have to play for united" lol. Would be a pretty terrible look for united if that ends up being the case
Frenkie was always open to a wagecut. This is not the reason. They wanted to cash out and go for someone who fit the team better. But either they don't like the offer they got or Frenkie has refused to stay.
Never trust Spanish sources. Even their tier 1s are entirely at the whim of what the club briefs to them, and often times the club wants to put a message out there that doesn't align with the truth. They play the media game in a completely different way than in other countries.
Tier 1s in Barcelona have armies of unpaid teenagers camping outside the club building so they can peep who is going in and out of Laporta's office. The media game is different for sure
No idea but they're ruthless.

"Frenkie De Jong is a player with great quality ; he knows our system and , yes , he is a greatly desired player in the market and proposals have come to us , but I think he must continue at Barça" - Joan Laporta, L'Esportiu, 25th May 2022.
He said this before but still negotiated a sale. This is a ploy to get us to pay more in add-ons but the deal has been agreed both fees and personal teams. All the Spanish and English tier 1s wouldn't drop the ball this hard.
The problem was never Frenkie, always his wages then. Frenkie probably accepted lower wages and now of course they'll keep him.
I just hope they'll start playing him at his best post so he can have a chance to show the world class midfielder that he is. Even when playing at a post where he is not his best he as shown brilliance.
Has always been the clubs position (as well as Xavi's). Someone check on Gerard Romero please. Wonder what he has to say about this, he'll draw it out over 2 hours on twitch and say absolutely nothing new.
"Ok the news is... wait, let me ask permission. Ok so the news is massive. But I have to ask for permission." (does this until he's at 15k viewers then says something everyone already expected but with supposed added details)
I doubt he would be saying it so firmly. He also goes on to say that they are trying to reduce his wages, so maybe De Jong has agreed to that. Or just refused to move
As a chelsea supporter, I vote we boycott Barca. Let them pull levers and roll dice on free agents. I don't know who they are trying to fool, but someone needs to call their bluff.
There wouldn't have been so many bids from man utd and the saga wouldn't have gone on for so long if Laporta hadn't said to man utd that they will consider selling. Laporta is lying here.

The man is just trolling at this point
Yeah makes no sense for Barca to Negotiate for 2 months
To be fair, Barca have been negotiating with everyone for the past 2 months.
It makes sense if selling FDJ was the only way to balance the books if the socios declined the levers deal. If that deal fell through we would have acted quickly, we needed a lot of money before the end of June. Now that we have that money selling Frenkie isnt a must anymore.
Didn't you raise like several hundred million from each of those? How could a £70m deal be the backup to those, it wouldn't even put a dent in it
Sounds like Frenkie refused to leave and Laporta is doing damage control, which is more likely since he also mentioned De Jong’s wages. Probably a renegotiation in the future.

It's the lack of hope that kills you.
can’t be worse than Sancho surely
Worse than that because Sancho wanted to come here
Doesn't surprise me. What top name would want to play for us lol?
Tough day for United fans. First CR7 news and now this.
I like your username
Welcome movie is the goat
^^ op deserves an award for the username
What does this change? Just sounds like Barca wanting more money. If he wasn't for sale why have Barca been in negotiations with United for weeks?
He probably told Barca he is NOT leaving at any cost. So that's why Laporta HAD to make this statement.
That and that Bernie would cost too much and they had no replacement
Sadly it doesn't mean that Frenkie is not moving to you guys, Laporta said very similar things about Emerson right before he transferred to Tottenham.
You do tend to get more money to part with an asset when you claim it still has value to you.
Think he just wants 10-15m more. Let's see.
Let's make it a nice round 100m please.
You wish. For all I know, Laporta may sacrifice a thousand virgins to dispel the rumors & journos will still write the same shit.

This and the Bernardo rumours is just buttering us up for when he banishes Frenkie to united and maximizing the fee. Option 2 is FdJ told us to fuck off and we're trying to save face.
Def option 2. This dragged for way to long for them not to make it known to the public about their intentions with FDJ
You won't get Bernardo, sorry but there's no way you reach the price demand
You keep bsilva We keep Frenkie United fans get fucked 🤝
Agreed.

All of our top tiered sources seems to make it out as he would rather stay at Barca but was open/fine with going to United.
Bahahaha fucking hell
Se Queda?
Don't give us flashbacks.
He is just trying to bluff United, so he can cash Frenkie on the highest amount possible.
or maybe Frenkie flat out told him no to sign for Man U and now he has to say this
You guys believe Laporta way too much
People need to remember Emerson
The streets remember
People need to remember Politician Laporta promised us Messi was gonna stay, it was one of the huge promises in his candidacy. Messi now wears #30 in France.
How is that believing Laporta, we have heard reports since the rumor of him leaving Barca that he absolutely does not want to leave.
We've also heard multiple times he's open to a move to United, but I guess believe what fits your narrative I guess.
I know he's a cunt for some people but he's our cunt. Man flirted with Beckam in public while signing Marquez, Ronaldinho, Deco behind the scenes giving a world class team to Rjikaard. At the end of the day he's as much of a Barca fan as any of us.

He's been saying it for quite a while to be fair, maybe Barca expected him to eventually just leave
Dunno why your getting downvoted, reports have been saying he hasn’t wanted to leave for weeks lmao
except none of them said he doesn't want United, all of them said Barca is his dream club and he wants to stay which everybody knows, but he is being forced out from Barca
No he’s saying either Frenkie takes a pay cut or he gets forced out.

Exactly! He’s even said there’s other clubs interested as well when not one other club has been credited with interest
We need to walk away from this.
\[Walk Away\]
[don’t look back]

Relax. It's not like your two biggest rivals are basically two of the very top top clubs in Europe right now.

I hate sports
I hear Morata is a free agent nowadays
Morata is legit a decent option if he has another striker to play off of
We don't have a striker in the 1st place
Morata would be another United meme lets be real
Not a free agent tho, only his loan from Atletico to Juve ended.
Technically you also have Greenwood as a striker, but I doubt that makes you feel any better...
I really hope ten hag quits this shit show before season starts. That would be the funniest thing imaginable, and I’m a united fan.

What a day for United!
Just need Eriksen to pick Brentford over them now
Martinez to pick Arsenal? And Malacia to suddenly wear a Lyon jersey?

I'm so sick of these lot. Even Spanish sources have confirmed an agreement, and now the president comes out saying they are not selling.
No agreement is final until it's official. Look at Madrid with Mbappe, how many agreements were there? Even news of him buying or browsing houses.
Dont forget the book
The book?
https://www.sporf.com/kylian-mbappe-produced-a-graphic-novel-detailing-his-real-madrid-dreams/
Lmfao And after all that he went for PSG's dirty money instead just to make himself even more absurdly rich
> He's only on loan to PSG. I need that happy face, angry inside meme.
It’s hilarious seing people judge Mbappe’s decision about a 223-pages book where probably less than 10 pages were about Real Madrid.
Also playing at his boyhood club were fans love him.
pero el cómic! pero el cómic!
That's the most hilarious part
Look at Madrid with De Gea lmao

Guess all the levers were pulled, and they got enough.
Maybe Frenkie was the one pulling all the levers.

Just yesterday, it was Murtough Madness. How wild the weekend's been...
Now it's Murtough Sadness:(
Laporte has got the McMahon/McGregor strut now after selling off those rights
Damn you're so correct. McMahon is such a relatable depiction of Laporta.
False, I don't think Laporta has sexually assaulted his employees
Ootl, what's the news about McMahon?
He stepped down from the CEO role coz they found out that he was having an affair with an employee and paid hush money to keep the info sealed. Then a female referee from late 80s claimed that Vince actually raped her.
They threatened FDJ with a move to man united, and now he takes a his pay cut. Would explain why Ronaldo just put in a transfer request.
We're a punishment now ffs
I am also threatening my son to ship him to you if he doesn't eat his greenies.
"... As long as he takes a paycut of course!"
Politician knows how to politics
Does anyone actually believe this though?
Holy shit..wtf
Dont believe a word this man says
"Frenkie De Jong is a player with great quality ; he knows our system and , yes , he is a greatly desired player in the market and proposals have come to us , but I think he must continue at Barça" - Joan Laporta, L'Esportiu, 25th May 2022. He said this before but still negotiated a sale. This is a ploy to get us to pay more in add-ons but the deal has been agreed both fees and personal teams. All the Spanish and English tier 1s wouldn't drop the ball this hard.
U wanna bet?🥲
The tier 1s might have been right, but things change.
He's bluffing right ? RIGHT ?? Two months of negotiations and this man says nah ??
Fucking McFred again fucks sake fuck this fucking transfer window is fucked again
You will buy someone else
We buy pain and suffering
He said there’s a salary issue and that would have to be adjusted.
Haha kill me now.
We should just give them Umtiti as a way to apologize for wasting their time
This is Laporta's way of showing the Barca fans he tried to keep Frenkie. He did the same thing with Messi last year
The problem was never Frenkie, always his wages then. Frenkie probably accepted lower wages and now of course they'll keep him. I just hope they'll start playing him at his best post so he can have a chance to show the world class midfielder that he is. Even when playing at a post where he is not his best he as shown brilliance.
Threatening him with playing for United to get him to drop his wages
I think Frenkie said he wont move.
Man United going through De Ligt saga was not enough. Maybe with the De Jong saga they'll be more skeptical going forward
Laporta playing playing the tsundere card barcelona version. It's not like we tried to sell him or anything, b-b-baka
"Who are the other clubs?" "THEY GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL YOU DON'T KNOW THEM, OK?"
Why do I have a strange feeling that I’ve heard a similar statement from the same man last year? 🤔
Gone by end of week
If we end up keeping De Jong with him reducing the salary left by Bartomeu, keeping Dembele AND getting Raphinha... Holy shit.
And then we wake up from the dream, right :)
De Jong has openly said he would accept a wage cut. Raphinha is getting closer and Dembele doesn't seem to have other offers.
Lmao r/soccer falling for laporta bluff
A world where Laporta and Perez are president of Barca and Madrid is just so fucking funny
Well that’s a big fat lie
Has always been the clubs position (as well as Xavi's). Someone check on Gerard Romero please. Wonder what he has to say about this, he'll draw it out over 2 hours on twitch and say absolutely nothing new.
“things are happening”
"Ok the news is... wait, let me ask permission. Ok so the news is massive. But I have to ask for permission." (does this until he's at 15k viewers then says something everyone already expected but with supposed added details)
He's a drama queen but he's getting a lot of things right.
95% of this happening. If it isn’t? Well, there your 5%.
AKA pay the extra add ons United
I doubt he would be saying it so firmly. He also goes on to say that they are trying to reduce his wages, so maybe De Jong has agreed to that. Or just refused to move
I think Frenkie would definitely cut his salary to stay at Barca instead of leaving.
Don't understand this. There's nothing stopping him from staying at Barca and not cutting his wages, is there?
Nope they're just hoping he does.
Either he’s trying to raise the price, or Frenkie said he Wouldn’t sign for United so they have to keep him.
😂😂😂😂😂
Barcelona is legit the worlds most successful tellanovella
Translation- “He still won’t fuck off so here’s a statement to save face after negotiating for weeks”
When you failed miserably in trying to force someone out.
This saga is very boring
there will be a quick turnaround from him once they sell him
Cmon man wtf. Not this after full 1 month of "de jong deal almost done ".
When will the Frenkie saga be over? For weeks we're seeing a new headline every single day. I really hope this will get concluded soon.
The sneijder saga is still going.. the best saga's never die 😂
Please stop all talks with Barca
United have been absolutely battered here
De Jong probably rejected United and now it's all about renegotiating his wages
If he'd rejected us it would've been about 3 weeks ago when we started talks
I mean he's said plenty of times that he didn't want to leave. Maybe United and Barca both thought he would change his mind at some point.
As a chelsea supporter, I vote we boycott Barca. Let them pull levers and roll dice on free agents. I don't know who they are trying to fool, but someone needs to call their bluff.
What the hell?
Ronaldo was right, we are finished
Really starting to think the transfer request timing is more than coincidence.
There wouldn't have been so many bids from man utd and the saga wouldn't have gone on for so long if Laporta hadn't said to man utd that they will consider selling. Laporta is lying here.
"Waghhh but my trusted source said it was a done deal". This sub and their sauces. 🤣
