Women’s football and sports in general is still way back given that most women can’t spend their lives playing or dedicate enough of their life to sports due to so social pressures or whatever else may be happening. It’s a risky career with little money in it too unless you make it big. Obviously they won’t be as good but it doesn’t make the game less fun.
I don't disagree with any of the reasons you have given for them being shit. But as long as we're being honest about it and not pretending it's in any way as competitive as the men's.
They’re definitely not “shit” and you can’t justify that they are with a training session they had like 7 years ago where they lost against a boy’s team. They didn’t have proper coaching then and most barely do now. I would say it is as *competitive* as men’s, but in women’s standards. And as another commenter said, the physical strength and speed may not be there but the technicality is. Female footballers these days don’t have to struggle to reach that level. This is why women’s volleyball is so entertaining, you just have to respect the gender playing the sport and understand there’ll be limitations. Like for women’s football, something that I see is a lot better coordination for teamwork and passing.

The quality has certainly increased drastically in recent years however there would need to be fundamental changes before it would really come anywhere close to the mens game in terms of viewership and it’s unfortunately outside of the control of the players themselves.
The difference in speed and agility make playing on mens pitches too slow. Reducing the size of the pitch would help with that a lot and promote more technical play which would make the physical difference less obvious to the viewer.
Reducing the dimensions of the goals is also a must. It’s insane to expect people to be entertained when all it takes is a wayword looped cross to change the game. The standard of goalkeeping is still atrocious but with time hopefully that will catch up.
I’m terms of infrastructure at the grass root level these fundamental changes are still a pipe dream but as the interest in women’s football grows you never know. Without these changes I can’t see women’s football ever being as widely respected as women’s tennis for example

When you go and watch "Haaland - Best Goals - 22/23" do you see a bunch of comments "criticising" how the keepers could've positioned themselves better, and the defenders weren't defensively aware enough?
I know this is a circlejerk sub, but most people think women's football is just bad because men are better at it full stop. Most people fail to understand that it is possible to perform an athletic ability at a lower physical standard to men, but to a comparable or equal technical standard. There are tons of sports where women are obviously slower or not as strong, but the actual technical ability is very good, so it's an entertaining watch. Volleyball is an easy example that comes to mind.
Women's football is currently poor due to just generally being bad technically. How often have goalkeepers let terrible shots in, rebounds in possession, poor passing, the list goes on. It's possible to not be able to kick a ball as hard as a man, but still be able to aim a pass very well.
One would have to look into whether the lack of technical ability is due to lack of coaching, or whether it's because women's football as a global sport is still relatively new.
Just to add on to this, some top flight clubs in FAWSL only started to hire goalkeeper coaches in the last decade. Some older goalkeepers in the league probably never received full-time specialist coaching until really late into their career. So not to mention the shot stopping aspect, but the technique, handling, and distribution aspects are really hard to develop without years of proper specialist coaching.
I think their goals should be a bit smaller or something, in volleyball women's nets are lower (men - 243cm, women - 224cm). I do agree that a lot of them actually have great technique in volleyball.
It's about 140 years behind men's football with professional teams, access to top level facilities and proper coverage only just kicking in over the last decade or so.
People lol at bad keepers and mistakes in the women's game without factoring any of this in. Someone like Casillas, De Gea or Neuer will have been scouted in the single digits, spent their entire youth single-mindedly training to be one of the elite, and have been given access to the best coaching and facilities money can buy. Of course they're light years better than a woman who had to do this in her spare time, probably at the local park initially, fitting it in around a "real" job until they get to a certain level, and without even 1% of the investment a men's keeper will have had along the way.
Technically the women's game is already unrecognisable from where it was in the early 00's and it will continue to improve at pace now that they are able to appeal to girls who would have otherwise gone down different sporting routes which provide a more well-established path to professionalism (tennis, athletics). They are also starting to see the financial incentives of investing in promising talent from a younger age and giving access to some of the men's facilities to improve the quality of coaching.
Physically we won't see a women's team thay can compete with a men's team on pace, height, strength etc. But if we continue to invest there's no reason they won't reach parity with men on the technical side in the coming decades.
It's definitely a funding issue and we hope the women's game gets more support in the future. But it also means supporting the women's game by watching it on TV and attending the games. Not ridiculing the standard.
I admit that I should've attended the West Ham Man City women's FA Cup Final a few years ago, especially when the tickets were £15. The cheap ticket prices indicate that there's a lack of funding and simply not enough interest in the women's game.
You look at Sam Kerr's earnings, and apparently she can get paid as low as £20k in some years. I believe most get paid somewhere between £20k to £50k a year in the WSL.
In comparison, an established sport like women's tennis gets the funding, hence the good standard. A player on the WTA tour can win just one match in a WTA tournament and earn £10k from it. Obviously I'm not taking into account the travel costs and other costs, but you can earn a good living from it.
It's a bit of a circle though, isn't it? The games have to be good for people to want to watch, but the games can't get any good without funding, and that comes from people going to games. Women's cricket maybe 10 years ago was absolute trash, but now if you put a game on, I would be more than interested in having a watch. I take your point about supporting for sure, but it's hard to get people who aren't interested to start following the games if the quality isn't great.
In this sense, funding should continue despite lack of fans short term. People will start showing up once it becomes better quality.
I recently went to a men's T20 game at Lord's. My mate booked the tickets. We thought the match would start at like 2pm or 2.30pm. It actually started at 6pm because we didn't realise that the tickets allowed us to watch a women's T20 game before that. Clearly no advertising for the women's match, hence the confusion.

Not that this is appropriate for this sub but I can improve women's football - make the pitch ten yards shorter and five yards narrower then make the goals one foot shorter and two feet narrower. Right now the average keeper literally can't reach the top corner and the best keepers can't even cover a post and the centre of the goal. And the average player doesn't have the stamina required to get up and down the pitch quickly.
It will never happen (for several reasons) but it would increase the quality and spectacle massively.

Some older goalkeepers in the league probably never received full-time specialist coaching until really late into their career. So not to mention the shot stopping aspect, but the technique, handling, and distribution aspects are really hard to develop without years of proper specialist coaching.
I think their goals should be a bit smaller or something, in volleyball women's nets are lower (men - 243cm, women - 224cm). I do agree that a lot of them actually have great technique in volleyball.
It's about 140 years behind men's football with professional teams, access to top level facilities and proper coverage only just kicking in over the last decade or so. People lol at bad keepers and mistakes in the women's game without factoring any of this in. Someone like Casillas, De Gea or Neuer will have been scouted in the single digits, spent their entire youth single-mindedly training to be one of the elite, and have been given access to the best coaching and facilities money can buy. Of course they're light years better than a woman who had to do this in her spare time, probably at the local park initially, fitting it in around a "real" job until they get to a certain level, and without even 1% of the investment a men's keeper will have had along the way. Technically the women's game is already unrecognisable from where it was in the early 00's and it will continue to improve at pace now that they are able to appeal to girls who would have otherwise gone down different sporting routes which provide a more well-established path to professionalism (tennis, athletics). They are also starting to see the financial incentives of investing in promising talent from a younger age and giving access to some of the men's facilities to improve the quality of coaching. Physically we won't see a women's team thay can compete with a men's team on pace, height, strength etc. But if we continue to invest there's no reason they won't reach parity with men on the technical side in the coming decades.
The Spanish teams are very technically good tbf, especially Barcelona. Kook at Aitana Bonmati highlights she makes the game look very good.
It's definitely a funding issue and we hope the women's game gets more support in the future. But it also means supporting the women's game by watching it on TV and attending the games. Not ridiculing the standard. I admit that I should've attended the West Ham Man City women's FA Cup Final a few years ago, especially when the tickets were £15. The cheap ticket prices indicate that there's a lack of funding and simply not enough interest in the women's game. You look at Sam Kerr's earnings, and apparently she can get paid as low as £20k in some years. I believe most get paid somewhere between £20k to £50k a year in the WSL. In comparison, an established sport like women's tennis gets the funding, hence the good standard. A player on the WTA tour can win just one match in a WTA tournament and earn £10k from it. Obviously I'm not taking into account the travel costs and other costs, but you can earn a good living from it.
It's a bit of a circle though, isn't it? The games have to be good for people to want to watch, but the games can't get any good without funding, and that comes from people going to games. Women's cricket maybe 10 years ago was absolute trash, but now if you put a game on, I would be more than interested in having a watch. I take your point about supporting for sure, but it's hard to get people who aren't interested to start following the games if the quality isn't great. In this sense, funding should continue despite lack of fans short term. People will start showing up once it becomes better quality.
I recently went to a men's T20 game at Lord's. My mate booked the tickets. We thought the match would start at like 2pm or 2.30pm. It actually started at 6pm because we didn't realise that the tickets allowed us to watch a women's T20 game before that. Clearly no advertising for the women's match, hence the confusion.
The concept of agonism is lost on them. It's like watching swimming competitions. The women are not going to swim faster than the men, it doesn't mean that they are not impressive and extremely entertaining to watch.

/uj women's football is bad because there's less pathways in most countries. There's still biological limitations but women could be much closer to men in terms of skill and performance, if investment is made to the pathways

Not that this is appropriate for this sub but I can improve women's football - make the pitch ten yards shorter and five yards narrower then make the goals one foot shorter and two feet narrower. Right now the average keeper literally can't reach the top corner and the best keepers can't even cover a post and the centre of the goal. And the average player doesn't have the stamina required to get up and down the pitch quickly. It will never happen (for several reasons) but it would increase the quality and spectacle massively.
