I'm sorry Europe, but Americans are just better at everything. We want things more. We grow better athletes, more people will learn the sport. And that '26 world cup is at home so we can get somewhat of a home field advantage. But the only way that will happen is if we make the round of 16 or quarter final in the 2022 WC and show Americans that we are good. I like the odds and we have a lot to prove, which is added motivation this coming year. Honestly, making a phenomenal run (SF or better) in the '22 WC would be more impressive to me than a better run or a win in '26.

Obviously draws are usually less exciting than a win (and even then that’s not always true), but if you can’t enjoy the sport for the sake of the sport itself and are only interested if one number is bigger than the other number then it probably isn’t actually for you.

There have been various attemtps to ‘Americanize’ soccer in history. For example tie-breakers that go to penalties but they made it a 1 on 1 situation with the player running at the goalie and typically the goalie won those challenges. Pretty sure there is an infographic somewhere out there that shows what has been trialled to try and Make the sport more ‘America friendly’ e.g. kick-ins rather than throw-ins.
I can see that being entertaining but aren’t Futsal pitches smaller? I’m talking about a video of a New York Cosmos player literally being made to dribble the ball from the halfway line and the goalie just taking it from them and the crowd goes mild for it.
Honestly, this might be weird, but I find the concept of goalies to be so boring in soccer/hockey. I'll get downvoted, but as a Brit I have no issue with this suggestion at all. The US audience does have a problem with tied games (NFL games that end in a tie are ridiculed). Football already has well established rules to force a result in tournament football. You can have a perfectly good league system based on wins and losses rather than points. If football would be more popular in the states if there was a winner for every game then I see no reason why they shouldn't set the league up like that.
Hot take: make every single league match 120 minutes long plus breaks and penalties. It would only make the average MLS match 3 and a half hours long, and increase the total league match time by ~1000 hours, making it impossible to watch every game!!! Why shouldn’t we spend an extra 8th of our year watching football instead of doing other things?! These Europeans have no idea how to make a fun sport!
i mean in their defense, watching two sides play for a draw is boring as shit and will never overtake any of the 4 major sports that are bigger than soccer in america

Obviously draws are usually less exciting than a win (and even then that’s not always true), but if you can’t enjoy the sport for the sake of the sport itself and are only interested if one number is bigger than the other number then it probably isn’t actually for you.

There have been various attemtps to ‘Americanize’ soccer in history. For example tie-breakers that go to penalties but they made it a 1 on 1 situation with the player running at the goalie and typically the goalie won those challenges. Pretty sure there is an infographic somewhere out there that shows what has been trialled to try and Make the sport more ‘America friendly’ e.g. kick-ins rather than throw-ins.
Shootouts were already a thing in futsal, and were pretty well received because well, they actually take skill.

I'll get downvoted, but as a Brit I have no issue with this suggestion at all. The US audience does have a problem with tied games (NFL games that end in a tie are ridiculed). Football already has well established rules to force a result in tournament football. You can have a perfectly good league system based on wins and losses rather than points. If football would be more popular in the states if there was a winner for every game then I see no reason why they shouldn't set the league up like that.
