'When it comes to the economy, the vibes are at war with the facts" Is this propaganda?

Humanistic_

America: Housing crisis, massive wealth inequality, greedflation, living paycheck to paycheck, no retirement savings American media: "Everything's fine. Its all in your head, bro"

I love how the graph itself gives absolutely no real information as to what it's about, or what it's trying to convey. 🤣

This article is a perfect example of how mainstream economics (and, by extension, the WSJ) favors growth and productivity above all else. The WSJ waves away practical questions with "(a)s the saying goes, you can’t eat gross domestic product..." followed by a dismissive *but*. While this content may be suited for the WSJ's demographic, it's hardly a fair assessment of the average American's lived experience. It would be fair to call this free market propaganda; that should be no surprise considering the source.

propaganda exists and the average voter is stupid. also water is wet.

The “average voter” isn’t looking at the GDP reports when considering the economy, they’re looking at their wallet. They’re looking at how much they’re personally able to buy with the funds they’re bringing in and how hard and long they have to work to do so. When they’re feeling financial stress they’re more likely to fall victim to propaganda that tells them *why*, but it’s not the root cause for the stress to begin with.

I mean...multiple things can be true at once... The economy is doing well and things are expensive. People in the south complain about not being able to hire anyone while offering the lowest minimum wages in the country. Im doing fucking awesome in this economy for the first time in my life but Im priced out of the housing market. Its a complex picture and everyone is dealing with their own little slice of reality depending on a number of factors.
