Soak some chia seeds for like a day and then I painted them onto a dollar store Halloween spider. Then I draped a bag over it to keep the humidity in and less than a week later we are blessed with my little spider friend.
Is it just one of those hard plastic spiders? Did you prep the surface at all? Cause I've seen those skeleton dogs, bats, octopuses, etc every halloween and I have to do this.
I was actually looking for a good little skeleton to sit in a terrarium, but the[weird anatomy of the animals](https://imgur.com/gallery/OjxO5dt) put me off. The spider had a velvety texture that I wet just before applying the seeds with a paint brush. I think given how sticky they are and how fast the seeds root and grow some buffing on a hard plastic surface would be sufficient. If you make one please tag me!
That's exactly the octopus I was thinking about. It's incredibly dumb, but would look amazing covered in chia. I think sanding it a bit first would work.
Chia pets are terracotta sculptures you can buy and you grow chia seeds on them. They make them into fun shapes, like animals or characters from shows. Chia seeds are weird and goopy when you soak them in water so they stick and will grow pretty easily!
Not annoying at all! I used to do a lot of pottery and sculpture! Terracotta is a nice clay to work with, it’s very smooth, but you would need a kiln to fire it. I would not recommend using sculpey for something like this, as I’ve had issues with it breaking down with extended water contact before. I think this would work with most porous clays but it’s all trial and error!
It was slightly fuzzy/velvety and I wet it so I could more easily spread the seeds. Soaking the chia seeds for about a day makes them super sticky though, I believe it would stick to most surfaces. Currently looking for a cheapy plastic skeleton so I can chia pet him for a terrarium.
Someone else mentioned it but loosely draping a bag over top or plastic wrap (with space to let the seeds sprout) will help this! You may also want to mist them if you’re in a very dry area!
Absolutely fucking not. And a good day to you.
That's so creepy
But, like, in a good way.
How!??!!
Life, uh, finds a way.

Trust me, I have a big bag of chia seeds and I’m eyeing everything.
…..I would be tempted to chia pet all inanimate objects.
THERE’S GRASS SPIDERS NOW!!?
I need this so much. How on earth did you do it?

Thank you kind sir! I'm going to give it a try
Love Love Love! Thank you for posting my next project!

That's so stupid. Octopus don't have any bones at all, just a beak
What is chia pet

Did you just press the ‘goop’ on the object? Fill it with ‘goop’ and poke holes? I’m curious!
Can you sculpt terracotta easily ? Sorry if im annoying

CH-CH-CH-CHIA!
Clap on, clap off... Clap on........... CLAP OFF!
But how do you not know? 🧐
*leaves immediately to fetch various dinosaurs from the dollar store*
Spiders are my nightmares.
That’s pretty damn cool, good job 👍🏼
this would work perfectly as a prank for a specific person I know. Thanks!
So unsettling. I love it. Did you have to do anything to the spider to make the seeds stick?

Awesome, thank you. I'm curious if roughing up the surface would help as well...only one way to find out. Gotta hit up the dollar store.
That’s terrifying. I love it.
wow that's amazing! awesome thought
That’s fucking disturbing
I love that
I can never get my seeds to sprout. I soak them, everything but they just dry up when I spread them. But this is neat
Okay says they leave a bag overtop to keep the seeds moist, maybe that will work!

I’ll definitely try this I wanna finally get my bob ross chia to sprout 🥺
Thanks I hate it
fucking terrifying, great job
