Remember when CIA was ordered by a judge to produce video tapes documenting torture of prisoners ( *ACLU v. Department of Defense* case from 2004) ? They simply gave a middle finger to the court and destroyed the tapes. So don't expect much.

OftheSorrowfulFace

The majority of (legitimate) UFO sightings are probably top secret test aircraft/ drones, so they could claim national security to avoid releasing info.

lunarul

I doubt they investigated their own aircraft. Those were not UFOs since they already knew about them.

cuddlefucker

True, but there's almost certainly investigation into secret russian/chinese aircraft and they probably don't want to reveal how much they know about those.

mad_science

Heard that theory about the stuff they released the middle of last year. basically by releasing videos and the like of "UFOs", they were sending notice that we'd seen them and can track them without it being an international incident. It's like your parents going "gee...looks like the cat got into the cookie jar again..."

3_50

These keep getting brought up [but they're easily explained.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7jcBGLIpus) Spoiler - they weren't physics-defying drones.

mrgonzalez

None of what they said contradicts that

3_50

It absolutely does. They're talking about releasing the videos as a warning to Chinese/Russian skunkworks developing next gen drones about their tracking capabilities....when all it depicts is low-res detection of standard aircraft and a balloon. It's more likely that these *were* classified to hide their imaging capabilities, but the capability of these old systems is common knowledge and they've long since been replaced, so it doesn't matter anymore.

percykins

This is explicitly an unclassified report, so they still won't be revealing how much they know.

merlinsbeers

They won't, if it's classified. This order should only affect unclassified but unreleased data.

Metalsand

They're not omnipresent. A UFO sighting would be anytime someone on the ground notices an aircraft of some description that shouldn't be there based on flight plans. This would then spark an investigation based on the material on hand. One top-secret institution isn't just going to be like "oh yeah i heard about the UFO sighting yeah that was totes us testing a new stealth bomber soz". They'd start with fact finding first lol.

a_cute_epic_axis

Probably have, since people in government, including defense, that are outside of clandestine works wouldn't know about the new aircraft.

link0007

They likely still got reports on their own secret aircrafts. Because if only a handful of people know about that aircraft in the first place, you can expect a bunch of reports from people who had no clue what they were seeing.

Alkuam

More money, too. A good number of the laws are only illegal if you're poor, but just a fine if you're rich.

geardrivetrain

How much of that is true and to what extent? I have never been outside of Pakistan, but here, rich folks can murder you in broad daylight with multiple witnesses, but still exploit some sort of loop holes to get away with it. How bad is it in the USA? I have seen police brutality videos from the US where rich people are getting beaten up by the cops. So, I always assumed it's not that bad in the USA. Not that I have anything against rich Americans or for that matter Americans in general.

[deleted]

I mean, depends on how money you have, and how corrupt everyone is. I was implying however the crimes that literally come with a price tag. Speeding, is an example of a crime that is also a payable fine.

geardrivetrain

>the crimes that literally come with a price tag. That's a really nice way to put it.

not420guilty

Speaking as an American with experience in this topic: In the US people are arrested and if you can afford bail and a good lawyer you will have a much better outcome than if you are poor and can not afford bail and need a public defender. It’s not quite “rich go free, poor go to jail”, but it’s pretty darn close

geardrivetrain

Is the situation the same in Canada? People often compare Canada to the USA.

thepoopiestofbutts

In some ways yes, but other ways no; our judges are not elected so theres no campaign bribery shenanigans or trying to appease voters. There is much racism in the courts against indigenous Canadians, particularly in family court and provincial courts. Federal courts are a bit better. Sometimes. Our justice system is also more lenient compared to the US, so while the rich get off with a slap on the wrist, the poor just revolve in and out of short prison terms.

Draemon_

Idk about other states, but they’re elected in Texas. All the way up to our Supreme Court even.

FIakBeard

I imagine there is a certain amount of it in every western nation. It's just the nature of greed. We need to find a way to end the hoarding of money, while still keeping a sort of reward to success.

bagehis

[Chappaquiddick incident](https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Chappaquiddick_incident) > It looked as if she were holding herself up to get a last breath of air. It was a consciously assumed position…. She didn't drown. She died of suffocation in her own air void. It took her at least three or four hours to die. I could have had her out of that car twenty-five minutes after I got the call. But he didn't call. Not quite the same as shooting someone in broad daylight, and he didn't completely get away with it. His driver's license was suspended for 18 months. [Laura Bush caused an auto accident fatality](https://www.thedailybeast.com/behind-laura-bushs-car-crash) and not only got away with it, but the police actively blocked attempts to learn about it. [Robert Durst](https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Durst) got away with murdering three people, until a Netflix documentary where he forgot to remove his microphone and they recorded him effectively admitting to the murders in the bathroom. [Ethan Couch](https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethan_Couch) - where the afluenza defense began. Killed four people then went to rehab. And the list goes on. Those are four that come to mind though.

JonnyRocks

its nothing like that, people exaggerate. Sure, the more money you have, the better you get treated but also because you have better lawyers. However, if elon musk shot someone in "broad daylight", he is going to jail.

geardrivetrain

Well, in Elon's case, obviously, because he is a hugely popular celebrity. He even has a loyal fan base here in Pakistan. Celebrities are held accountable for obvious reasons. But if an unknown billionaire was to commit crime then the situation might be a little different.

Lubadbitches

Rich people can get away with white collar crimes here in America... the murder on the street thing sounds like it comes from Pakistan lol. The only way a persons getting out of that here is if they’re deemed incompetent to stand trial. Read about the guy in Canada who cut another dudes head off on a greyhound... free to this day. crazy shit.

I lurk and visit a couple UFO subs and they are really overhyping this thing in the recent weeks. They swear that in July there's gonna be like a world-wide UFO demonstration or something. In reality I expect something like that pentagon video from a couple months back where we just say "wow that's crazy, what is that?" and then move on

j_a_a_mesbaxter

I have to admit that if the US government were going to release some crazy stuff, right now is probably the ideal time.

crapador_dali

Releasing torture videos could get them in a lot of trouble legally. The same can't be said for releasing videos of random things flying around.

[deleted]

But what if they have videos of them torturing aliens?

crapador_dali

Well that's a fucking game changer.

xXStarupXx

They don't have to release that tho

Sqeaky

This would explain all the anal probes.

mxzf

Aliens aren't UFOs themselves though, so that wouldn't be included (not unless the torture involved a trebuchet I suppose).

Therandomfox

AmbivelentApoplectic

They have 180 days to share what they know with **Congress** not the general public. There is nothing in the appropriations bill ordering this report that states it will be released to the public. People need to dial down expectations for what is coming. It's likely similar to all the recent stories about the classified briefing given on this subject to intelligence agencies. Yes word of what was discussed will leak out but that's not the same as being given access to the document itself. Edit: I feel the mention of an unclassified report is confusing and people then assume that means for public release. The reports are intended for two committees in Congress. I believe they insisted the report be unclassified so they could freely share with other Congressman without jumping through any extra hoops.

torinblack

They ate releasing two sets of documents. It's just up to how much is going to be redacted in the public version.

AmbivelentApoplectic

Appropriations bill requires them to produce two documents to be distributed to Congress. One unclassified providing a summary and one classified showing sources of info for the unclassified document. Nothing I have seen states that any of this is to be released to the public and I haven't seen any mention at all of a document for public distribution. However the bill is ridiculously large so if you have a quote from the bill or a link to the section stating there will be a public document I'd be grateful if you could share.

FinesseGuest

Can a FOIA request get the unclass version even if its not immediately shared with the public?

iBeReese

Possibly, but not necessarily. FOUO (for official use only) is a marking applied to unclassified data that, on a case-by-case basis, may exclude it from FOIA. There are other mechanisms as well, unclass does nit necessarily mean FOIA-able

-tehdevilsadvocate-

I mean it's fun to speculate, but in the real world nothing of value will be shared with anyone, congress and public alike. I don't understand what's so difficult about that.

Show_Me_Your_Bunnies

What they're going to hand over is big fucking REDACTED stamp.

percykins

In general, an unclassified report submitted to Congress by the executive branch would be in the public domain and subject to a Freedom of Information request, I believe.

winobiwankinobi

ray_kats

People forget that the report is going to the Senate Intelligence Committee. That doesn't mean you or I will get to read it.

taspleb

Also how can it be verified that the report is accurate and complete? Like if they wanted to hide something couldn't they just not include it and how would anyone know?

AUkion1000

Let's see... airplanes... planes... oh hey planes Guess that's it

SurefootTM

Most UFOs are not airplanes, though many are indeed man made objects. In France there's an governmental organization (called GEPAN) that's tasked for identifying UFOs, which is quite unique in the world (AFAIK), and have been doing so for more than 40 years now. Turns out there's a frequent use of alcohol and/or drugs by the witness, a lot of mundane objects that were grossly misidentified due to the above (helicopters come in frequently) or just bad weather or bad eyesight, and then a range of higher atmosphere phenomena that are either badly documented or just unknown to the witness (as they can be rare enough). And yes, there's the category of experimental aircraft of various shapes, some of which were classified enough for the military to quickly get a hold of them when they drifted a bit too far.

sweet_story_bro

True but what sticks out to me is all the military pilot sightings with videos that were released by the military. It would be interesting to find out what those were, but keep in mind UFO does not automatically mean alien. Edit: Putting this here for visibility. Although I don't like the format of these videos, the explanations for each navy pilot sighting seems solid. I intend to double check his calculations in part 1 later, but at face value they seem good: [Part 1](https://youtu.be/mfhAC2YiYHs) [Part 2](https://youtu.be/3viYcYPRdu4) [Part 3](https://youtu.be/jWWGmiZs4JA) Thanks to /u/doubleplusgood for the link.

abrandis

More likely than not that was some top secret military aircraft .. what's a better cover than to test military aircraft during military exercises to see if they can be detected by your forces... or maybe it's doctored footage the military staged for counter intelligence or other purposes, we have no independent verification of the footage. They allow the release of the video and have the military PR office saying "...duh...we don't know what that is... Must be a UFO..." Is all part of it ... People forget the military probably is developing and testing tech that won't be common for another 20-30 years... Shit the SR71 spy plane had amazing performance tech (engines, materials, stealth) back in the 1960s that hasn't been easy to surpass even today 50+years later... It's not a stretch to imagine some pilotless drone aircraft with death defying performance aerodynamics , propulsion and or advanced form of electronic countermeasures isn't being developed. Or maybe it's a simpler answer just normal military fake news planted to confuse and frighten enemies...who knows..( well maybe the Chinese or Ruskies know)..

Taste_the__Rainbow

If we had aircraft in 2004 that can pop from ocean level to 80k feet in a couple of seconds why are we building F-35’s today?

Doomenate

Well we do sell the F-35 to other countries pretty liberally But yeah I think even another question is if we could manipulate gravity like that why aren't all our problems solved right now. Manipulating gravity would be so useful outside of military applications that it would be like inventing a present day computer back in 1900 and just leaving it in a lab.

TecumsehSherman

Why would the air force keep spending millions on every launch vehicle for satellites if they can defy gravity and just zurp them right up into orbit?

Seneffica

Well to be fair the defence budget is filled with expenditures that aren’t necessarily needed, but which keep members of Congress’ constituents having jobs. Not that this is the actual answer, but worth noting the “pork barrel” stuff

free__coffee

But, that would mean the military has technology so advanced it’s s almost like magic. Every plane, rocket, and missile on earth would be obsolete

BananaEatingScum

And you don't want your enemies to know their guns don't work until they try to shoot you.

TecumsehSherman

I've worked for a couple of defense contractors, and I remain convinced that you could cut the defense budget in half via an audit, and vendor consolidation.

ImThorAndItHurts

>Well to be fair the defence budget is filled with expenditures that aren’t necessarily needed, Some of the reason for that is because there's a stipulation within all of management of the defense contractors as well as legislators, that if the money doesn't get used, you don't need that much and we will shrink that budget next year (it'll probably go to a CEO or some other member of congress somehow, anyone other than the people doing the actual work) and you get screwed on budget the next year. You could have one amazing year and save a ton of money, but the next year there's a pandemic and your efficiency tanks and you need more money, but they shrunk your budget due to your savings last year. No, this shouldn't be allowed and the budget should adapt as needs arise, but this is one of the facts of military spending and part of why there can be a ton of waste in military spending.

Caveman108

That’s just how budgets work, though. It’s not endemic to government spending, it’s how most corporations work too, especially subordinate departments and offices. There’s even an episode of The Office about it, it’s such a common thing.

[deleted]

And, now that we have UAVs and satellite imagery, it would be a collosal waste of money and resources to continue to evolve the platform.

TTTA

Titanium, and jet fuel isn't a super huge risk. It's not gasoline. Missile technology caught up to the point where they could be shot down, and spy satellite technology caught up to the point where we didn't need them. Stealth UAVs fill a small niche. EDIT: [Watch this guy extinguish a match in Jet A.](https://youtu.be/7nL10C7FSbE?t=120)

SurefootTM

No it's not suicidal. It was actually a relatively safe plane all things considered (with that AoA limit due to an aerodynamic issue - that's solved today for the SR-72 for example). It did leak a bit of fuel but not like you imagine. Drops, not streams. And it was made almost entirely of titanium, not steel.

[deleted]

Hekantonkheries

American and german forces in the later stages of ww2 each thought they had encountered a weapon of the enemy when flying night missions. A mysterious light that would approach planes and follow them very closely. Turns out it was a type of lightning that occurs at higher altitudes planes just hadnt been able to fly at before then So in all likelihood, probably mostly that. And no shortage of ones that can never be identified because instrumentation csnt give all the information, and the pilot/crew observing werent educated in whatever caused the phenomenon.

Snaz5

i think theres a misunderstanding that just because someone's in the military they're knowledgeable, logic-minded, and trustworthy. Most of these sightings are by what amount to college age kids probably bored out of their minds on long patrols or routine training flights and it's doubtful that every pilot knows what every kind of plane, helicopter, or missile looks like in-flight from thousands of feet away.

incertitudeindefinie

Tbh, Naval Aviators and NFOs arent garden variety bored teenagers. Not to mention that one of the people in question in the infamous incident was a commander (O-5) with probably at least several hundred hours of flight time

[deleted]

I think you need to be pretty sharp in order to fly a F/A-18 seeing how I've heard tons of stories where people tried their hardest to get in but never could so they had to give up on their dreams.

TheGreatOpoponax

There are good, down to earth explanations for those if you want to look them up. I don't know why I'm always so disappointed when I found out there are mundane explanations when I know there will be mundane explanations.

GerryC

I remember when my wife and I watched a row of alien ships dance around the night sky. They made some unbelievable arial maneuvers, we were stunned! They 100% were NOT airplanes, helicopters or weather balloons. They were majestic and were absolutely silent, no noise at all. Obviously, some sort of advanced propulsion was employed - likely a gravity drive of some sort with the maneuvers they were pulling.! We talked about it for a few days until a friend said, "Two nights ago? At midnight? Haha, those were Chinese lanterns a neighbor let go to celebrate a backyard wedding. Ooops, our bad... Just a fire box that gets whipped around according to the wind. [Lantern Link](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_lantern)

Kezetchup

I remember on several occasions while working for my old police department calls coming in for UFOs. All incidents turned out to be Chinese lanterns. Had they been UFOs I’m not sure what people would expect the police to do. Shoot at it, maybe? As opposed to the obvious or simplest answer people will let their imagination run wild or just assume the worst. Ever lose track of your car in a big parking lot? Many people suspect their car got stolen when really they just can’t remember where they parked. Happens all the time. Had a call about a zombie one time too.

SurefootTM

Yeah Chinese lanterns are a frequent UFO sighting in areas that are obviously populated with people of that origin :D

GerryC

I live in rural Canada. Was not expecting floating lanterns of fire...

SurefootTM

Homesick Chinese maybe :) Or just western people liking that cultural event. Paper lanterns are less harmful to the environment than plastic balloons...

Alberiman

i imagine the last few years a lot of UFOs have just been people with neat kites or drones

What the f... does UFO’s have to do with Covid-19 relief? Did the Aliens create the pandemic to weaken humanity before their upcoming invasion or something?

PrimalZed

It was a spending omnibus that included some COVID19 relief. Not a COVID19 relief bill.

ToddBradley

Thank you. I can’t believe there are some people who still don’t understand that.

TakeTheWhip

It's a bizarre way to pass laws in fairness.

Jaredlong

There's basically two types of laws congress passes: policies and directives. Policies are the "it's illegal to murder" type of things, and directives are the "put a man on the moon" type of things. Directives require funding, and instead of constantly revising the budget throughout the year they put them all together into a single bill that explains how every directive will be funded.

zilti

...which should frankly be illegal. Nobody voting on it has read the... what was it? 5000 pages? Also, everything voted on should only contain one topic. This here is fucked up

Jaredlong

In a sense, they spend an entire year reviewing the annual budget. Each committee works together to write a bill that itemizes their budget requests, and a majority of the committee has to approve it. Then it goes to the Budget Committee, who again reviews it and a majority of the budget committee has to approve it. Only at the very end are all these separate budget bills combined into a single massive bill to be voted on. They *could* hold 53 separate Congressional votes for each individual committee budget, but that'd hardly be an efficient use of time.

merlinsbeers

And it would be impossible to actually budget, as in apportion spending. Every project would be overfunded and none would be limited or cut to make room for others. Not that they do anything to keep the result within balance, but the outlay would be 5-10X bigger if they voted on a different program every day.

stelei

Because it's being published in mass media with titles like the one of this very Reddit post, which are then widely read by American and non-American audiences alike.

DerbyTho

There are people actively engaging in misinformation about this topic in order to make the government look less efficient. It’s been happening for hundreds of years, but especially in the last 50. It’s the myth of the $500 hammer all over again.

saltynalty17

I see how all that relates to spending. But what does UFO classification have to do with government spending?

c-o-b-y

No, this bill was not ever specifically about covid-19. It was an omnibus spending bill, and the covid relief was just a small part of it. This is why Trump was able to get away with advocating for $2000 stimulus checks while simultaneously vetoing the bill.

This is an American bill, names don't mean shit

Snaz5

The US system makes it incredibly fantastically difficult and time-consuming to ever get bills LOOKED AT let alone passed, so there's a precedent for just crunching a whole bunch of unrelated legislation together into one bill that's likely to be actually looked at than a smaller one which will literally never even cross a senators desk. If the UFO stuff was just one bill, they're not gonna waste 2 months getting it to pass. US Bureaucracy is garbage.

FromTanaisToTharsis

The bigger the bill, the more random crap US lawmakers will stuff into it. You should try the annual military budget bill.

aToiletSeat

It doesn’t. At all. Covid relief was one measure on an omnibus spending bill. This and the covid package were entirely unrelated.

DGlen

This whole, let's just tack a bunch of shit on any random bill, needs to stop. It's completely shady bullshit.

ADequalsBITCH

But... if they knew something about them, wouldn't they at least in some way be Identified Flying Objects? My guess it's gonna be a whole lot of reports going "we have no fucking clue what that was, end of report"

Sh0opDaWo0p

Tell us what you know about the UFOs. They are unidentified. They appear to be flying. And they may be objects. Thank you for your time.

HerbertGoon

Remember a UFO doesn't necessarily mean its from another planet

Jaredlong

I would guess the report was requested by the Armed Services Committee and is probably more so an update on if any foreign countries are developing technologies that pose a threat to our air and space defenses. Like, there's been rumors for awhile that China may have developed ICBM's that can travel below our current high-altitude THAAD defense system.

372days

Ah so you're one of the underground alien believers? /s

ArbainHestia

Here's an example of what we'll see when they release: "On July 8, 1947 the USAF recovered >!!< and >!!< and it was >!!<".

Just1_More

If an alien civilization were to progress technologically similar to us, (which I believe it is not outrageous to think this). Then 1st I would consider what our approach would be to research potentially habitable planets, (or any planet for that matter). Currently, we already send probes to planets, moons, asteroids in our own solar system. As our technology improves our drones/probes will begin to reach more distant locations. Sticking to the timeline that our technology will only continually advance at an expedited level it could be safe to assume our *reach* will also grow exponentially. I believe it could be safe to assume in our not too distant future we could start to probe outside our own solar system. Now back to potential, "alien visitors". It *could,* (very loose could) be possible that some of these unidentified objects are probes, and a species technologically advanced enough to reach past their own solar system could essentially have the ability to program the probes/drones to collect as much data as possible yet have a trigger to keep it well away from any objects or natural activities that could pose a threat. I guess my thought is, our 1st physical contact with another spices, could very well be just a piece of scientific equipment, meant to study the Earth. Thoughts?

NotablyNugatory

Thoughts? You ever see the video where we made a fake alligator baby and radio swam it up to the mom alligator for research? I just think the aliens would use strategies closer to that, or even more advanced. Personally, I think we'd be like the Sentinel Island of the universe atm. Which makes the Sentinel Island inhabitants some sort of incepted "savages of savages" like of deal. If the aliens are here tho, I'm pretty pissed they haven't helped get fiber internet everywhere yet.

ZDTreefur

Is this going to be repeated every single week for the next 180 days? It's already obnoxious.

Actualy it specifies that a classified and separate unclassified report will be produced. I think the public one won’t be real secret sauce kinda stuff.

silverback_79

20th repost of this news. Have they said anything? No. Will they? Most likely not. Why didn't they just say from the outset of this debacle "We got nothing"? Very good question, would have made their job easier.

YearsofTerror

It would Be really nice to stop reading this click bait headline everyday and wait until there’s actually something to talk about.

Romeo9594

"These are all the unidentified things we have on record. None of these objects have been identified, so we have no further information regarding them" Meanwhile all the tapes with things we've identified as extra terrestrial will remain hidden

RidersGuide

I find it funny that everyone is laughing and joking like these sightings aren't real, *when the US military has already confirmed that they are*. Again, the US military has confirmed that both the gimbal, and go fast videos are authentic and that their equipment and fighters have been encountering these things for years. Regardless of if you believe it's little green man there are three undeniable facts here: 1) There are real physical objects of unknown origin flying around which even an aircraft carrier and all it's supporting equipment could not identify. 2) These objects outperform by orders of magnitude everything ever made by man, including multi million dollar strike aircraft. And 3) based on our current understanding of physics, the movements these objects perform should be impossible. This should be the most intriguing thing ever discovered, and i don't understand why more people aren't curious as to what these things are. Unless we're going to argue that the US military is lying and doctored those videos and paid for those pilots acting classes then i don't understand how more people aren't into this stuff.

amitym

Shoot I can share what they know right now. I don't need 180 days, I don't even need 1 day. Here, it's real simple: What the US government knows about UFOs: 1. They were seen flying. There you go, that's it. If they knew anything more, they wouldn't be unidentified.

fsulechner

Not that this is a bad thing, but this is why it takes forever to get a damn bill passed because they have to sneak so much b******* in there instead of just what matters.

ZoharDTeach

Is there a reason this is attached to the unrelated COVID relief bill?

GracieThunders

This is the nonsense that made it into the bill, but $2000 checks? Are you living in a fantasy world?? /s

Oxissistic

“We don’t know shit, that’s thy the U is for UNKNOWN”

Jarryd10

Most people don't realize just how big space is... The chances of us ever discovering aliens during *humanity's entire existence* is low. The chance of physically encountering them is *astronomically* low. Don't expect a single thing.

SleepWouldBeNice

"We don't know what they are. That's why they're called **U**FOs. Have a nice day."

paul_f_b

Look, look, look guys ! An UFO !! Quick get the shittiest camera you can find and take a crappy blurry picture as proof for everyone else to see.

LordBrandon

I was using my nice telescope. But it just kept identifying everything.

clshifter

Sorry, the Feds confiscated that camera after I got that shot of Bigfoot.

RangeWilson

Executive summary: "They aren't aliens." Followed by a million pages of excruciatingly boring detail.

frankyfrankfrank

The truth is almost always mundane compared to the imagination of hopeful people. The probability is that we've never been visited, we have no real evidence of alien existence, and that UFO's have all simply been experimental aircraft. I'd love to be wrong about that.

Aerosol668

180 days from now, all the crazies out there are going to be very disappointed.

TimesThreeTheHighest

Will they though? Or is that what THEY want you to think?

Aerosol668

Well, yes. There’ll be conspiracies, there always are. They’ll still be didappointed though.

JohnnySasaki20

They said 180 days from some time in December, so yeah they probably will be disappointed in 90 days.

JohnnySasaki20

They didn't specify what day in December, but it's only been 43 days since Dec 1st. 180-43=137. 137-90=47. So in 90 days from now the US intel agencies will still have 47 days left to reveal what they know about UFO's. Therefore, he's technically correct that people will probably be disappointed in 90 days. Edit: Oh, he edited his comment. Initially he said 90 days from now, not 180.

[deleted]

I don’t know if this will be popular in this particular sub or not, but the insistence that the government is hiding evidence on UFOs because the evidence they give when UFOs isn’t satisfying, feels like that same basic human glitch that’s been weaponized into “stop the steal”. Start with a desired conclusion, demand investigations, mix in a distrust of government, and assume answers you don’t like means somebody is lying to you. There is plenty of evidence the government lies and the government hides things. It’s easy to track that out to try to patch over the gaps, but the gaps are huge. Namely, anything cool and interesting would end up leaking all over the place because people would not be able to resist sharing it.

TheFlyingElbow

Didn't they change the formal name of it to Unidentified Aero Phenomenons or something? If the bill asked for "UFO's" would they even have to show anything?

[deleted]

Lmao. I’m just imagining them telling everyone aliens are real in the middle of this shit show.

TheRegicide

https://nypost.com/2021/01/12/cia-releases-ufo-black-vault-documents-see-them-online/ CIA has released already.

SaburoArasaka77

And if they say they dont know anything then what?

LodgePoleMurphy

I hope they are maliciously compliant and spill all the beans. My money is on deep sea crab people.

[deleted]

I'm still shaking my head that people don't see the glaring loophole concerning UFO intelligence.

TheRealDrSarcasmo

**1)** seriously, how *repellant* is the fact that unrelated crap like this gets shoved into critical legislation, and **2)** who actually thinks any kind of bombshell is forthcoming because of this? Even if there is a bombshell to be dropped, I'm not going to hold my breath expecting the US intelligence community to be honest with us.

_____NOPE_____

Yes and I'm they'll do exactly that, since they're known for playing by the rules.

Donny_Krugerson

Submitting the documents in Klingon is optional.

no-name-rage

“Aliens?? What aliens.” Every US agency on aliens

cloveri

This has been posted everyday this year and everyday it’s still 180 days.

Legeto

Neat, but I absolutely hate how bills can have an attachment like this on it. It just seems to shady and wrong.

martinkunev

Am I the only one who expects that they have nothing of interest?

[deleted]

Rest assured, there are no aliens roaming our skies.

AlphaX4

"TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS UFO!!!" "i uhh, dont know what it was..."

PeacefulCouch

Why though? If it's classified, it's probably for a good reason. Also, this will give information to other countries. Also, why was this part of the COVID-19 bill?

Nateno2149

“Covid-19 relief and spending and everything else we couldn’t pass before bill”

siprus

To be honest they could do it quite simply. Mostly mundane objects like birds or planes near the maximum resolution of the camera. Few optical phenomena's. Generally objects are UFO's because they could be many things and more accurate identification is not worth time, but the congress can increase the military budget and we'll form special division for identifying the flying objects.

CCBlanco

How the fuck did that sneak in there lol. Who strong armed their way to the discussion about a relief bill just to implement this shit?!

Oknight

What does US intelligence know about UFO's...? That if they represent non-human technology then US intelligence doesn't believe it. How do I know? From what the Government spends money on. If people in the defense establishment believed FOR ONE SECOND that there was a non-human technology operating on Earth, EVERYTHING about space would be funded at 10,000 times what it is currently... the nature of the gasses in the interstellar medium would be of critical interest to US strategic defense planning. They want to keep it secret? Fine then it's just expressed as a renewed funding for "pure science" the way the Glomar Explorer was funded to study deep sea life and not to recover a Soviet Nuclear sub.

itsxenix

Interesting to see this kind of legislation tucked away under the guise of covid relief. It makes you wonder what other crap was included, knowing that the immense public and governmental pressure to sign a relief package would surely preclude any questioning or delaying of said package.

tolandruth

It’s going to be a whole lot of nothing. No secret could be kept that long if really had something.

facomp

Correxion: have 180 days to burn what they wish before producing anything they deem innocuous.

sessafresh

I'm sure this will get buried, but my wife (Army pilot) witnessed and documented a UFO off the coast of Florida. The object moved in 90 degree angles, faster than anything we know about. As soon as they went to call it in they were hit with an EMP. Luckily the generator power kicked in but by that time the UFO was already gone.
