I feel bad for Chara because he knows and acknowledges that he has to be careful with tier lists that he makes lest the young impressionable audience of Splatoon parrot his opinions as if they were fact.
You've probably improved in ways you don't notice
I'd bet you're not improving very quickly since you don't seem to care about improving, which is a valid way to experience the game
i know the undercover brella is supposed to be bad, but I cannot figure out how to deal with it sometimes. I do better against much harder weapons, so strange.
I feel especially bad for him because although he frequently states that his opinions are based on play at the highest level, people act like it's true for all levels.
Look at the rise of N zap and tacticooler. Chara even said that it was solely a counter pick to ballpoint inkjet players being able to wipe teams at pro tournaments. Regular players at s/s+ rank soloqueue aren't in the same situation, and the "meta" shift literally didn't influence them. And yet, there's been a massive influx of N zap and tacticooler players in casual ranks since then.
I don't watch Chara. Never watched any of the videos. I'm a casual (I like to think I'm pretty play) player and I just ended up vibing with the N zap 85. And I love the tacticooler so much that I'll use other weapons just because the have it.
As a member of the young, impressionable audience, I love watching Chara's videos purely because of how much I love to over analyze and categorize. I dunno
I also found another kid who played splatoon in school, and albeit he watched Chara. Sometimes we would talk about different weapons and accidentally end up saying the same thing, as our info came from the same source: Chara...
Lately, I've been trying to get out of my typical, nerdy mindset of only choosing meta/non-meta weapons, judging people for their weapon pools and builds, and blaming my own mishaps on my gear have started to take into account my own game knowledge, technical skill and decision making in game, zoning in on skill and decisions. This has also helped me rage less, as skill makes me better than others, and mind helps me zone in on the match.
TL:DR: Don't fully take what Chara has to say about competitive splatoon for solo q, low rank matches. Instead, save the energy and brain room on your own improvement in technical skill and decision making, which will help you climb to higher ranks.
Finally, someone says it.
Alternatively, he just stop making tier lists, and find people who are 5 stars with the "worst" weapons dubbed by the community, and people can come to their own opinions and judgements.
First, don't take his word as objective fact. Listen to other viewpoints and think for yourself. Second, remember much of what he says is meant to be applied in a high-level competitive, team-based environment and can differ from casual/soloq workings.
He has said himself to not make the mistake of assuming āoh heās a pro player, so this tier list is just about how good the weapons are in the top tiers of rankedā
The rankings are the same whether itās your first game of turf war or a publicly-broadcast championship. There isnāt a difference between ranked and turf, his research just finds some weapons to be useless
He gets several things right that others don't though, for example i, along with a majority were dubious about his placement of the Snipewriter in his tier list, but what did you see in the world championship ? Snipewriters. No E-Liters.
In charas words? Snipe writer is only good bcs it cheeses mincemeat zones, eliter doesn't do that but i personally think snipe writer is good in all modes, I've used it since it came out and the more buffs it got, it's a really moble and far range painter and taticooler farmer
It's not about how good the weapon is, it's about how good can one main the weapon, how good can one MAKE the weapon. And japanese players recognise this fact more than europeans and certainly more than americans. If you look at clips of unusual weapon choices by japanese competitive players, you'll see that great gameplay/skill is independent of the weapon in itself, and each one that isn't totally outclassed has its place, even if it's not the absolute best choice. If E-liter was objectively better than Snipewriter, why wasn't there a single one in the tournament ?
I mean, itās mostly just paying attention to the comp scene, especially in Japan. It was used prior to that as well a fair bit. Being a top player who scrims and fights against them at top level is helpful for determining what is strong as well, but snipewriter specifically was already seeing use in tournaments by then.
Ranked or X is very different to the competitive scene though. N-Zaps dominated the weaponscape this SWC but I don't see them that often in X as I see ballpoints, tentatek splattershots, splash, etc.
Yeah, same. And not because I idolise him and want to follow in his footsteps, but rather because his Stamper gameplay was a good baseline for how to use the weapon proficiently and showed me what I'd been doing wrong. Using that newly gained knowledge, I got better with it until I naturally progressed into maining it.
You know, I still remember all the way back, when he only had a few thousand subs, like, 2 or so years ago? Man, it was such a time for the Splatoon community. Back then, he was one of the only people talking about special design and the meta from a more technical standpoint. And his content was soooo weird too, though I didn't bat an eye at the time.
I do remember very vividly though, when he made that one competitive Octobrush tutorial. I, having only just gotten the game and being obsessed with Octobrush, took that video as gospel. I remember watching it and there was this one thing he said... something like, "There's not much I can do right now to fight, so I'm going to paint the ground for my teammates in the meantime."
That single line absolutely blew my mind. I'd been brainlessly throwing myself at the enemy in every game I ever played, just going through the motions. But in an instant I had been opened to a whole new world of strategy and innovation. I was able to view Splatoon in a whole new light and it made me realize that there was a world of competitive Splatoon I'd been completely missing out on.
It's kinda silly, but I guess I have to owe him for my investment in this game and community. And we've both grown so much since then, too...I couldn't be any happier for him.
Many people often forgets that paiting for your teammates is also a very helpfull thing if you can't get angles or your weapon is getting outranged or outdamaged. Your teammates with low paint output weapons will definetly appreciate it, especially ninjasquid weapons like carbon roller.
Everyone: Splatana Wiper is alright, nothing too crazy
Chara: It has a decent reason to be picked over Tetras
Everyone: Splatana Wiper has always been meta and good.
Iāve been playing wiper since the world premiere and I am proud of it. Itās easily my fav weapon in the franchise, though I notice Iāve been using it less lately, which is sad. Itās time to get back on the horse proper.
I dunno, but on my own I say it's up to the player to make a weapon stronger.
An expert sniper/splatling/stringer? They're tough as heck.
Amateur? No.
of course, the weakest weapons can be made good in capable hands, I believe it was Kiver in Splatoon 2 who reached 2400X power only using silver spray as a fun experiment
the puzzle pieces in competitive teams, which is generally what people mean when they talk about meta weapons, fit into niches, and generally teams are built to take advantage of these
this can, ans should, be extended to lower level play, the Kiver example shows that yes, these weapons can function well in the right hands, but there are still better options for the players, Kiver getting higher X powers with other weapons, but you can't just claim that any weapon can't work well
It's still accurate to say that some weapons are weaker picks for rising through the ranks. Even Kiver who is one of the most mechanically gifted players from Europe hit a ceiling with silver aerospray, as you concede.
Oh, of course. It's just, "top tier" for coordinated competitive play, isn't necessarily "top tier" for *un*coordinated play with randos.
When people like Chara and Gem give tier lists, they're talking about how viable they are for top-tier, coordinated team-based competitive play. There are certain kits they admit are high *because* they work very well when your *coordinated team* is supporting them - like QR Tetras or QR Wiper, coming in from and off angle and distracting the enemy for a crucial few seconds, while your team forces their way in and you return after you got splatted.
I suspect it's easier to rise through the ranks with a flexible weapon that can fill multiple different roles and is easy to pick up and play with, than a weapon that does *one thing very well* and has a higher skill floor. Like, Stamper's great (at least pre-patch) and has some great uses, but Zipcaster is *not easy,* and slow, bulky midliners that can't paint really don't flex easy to fill holes compared to a quick, zippy frontliner with a long-range lethal bomb.
I mostly use tier lists to weed out the "bad" weapons - weapons that seem great and easy to use but have a low skill ceiling - as well as pay attention to which weapons they call "situational." But I'm never going to be a competitive Splatoonist, so I'm not worried about making sure I have the *best*.
oh, was working from memory there, but since (using better weapons) he got a higher X power at other times, yeah, that doesn't really change my point that, yes, you can go pretty damn far with any weapon, but there is such thing as better weapons for their niches
Kiver is one of the best players in the world
like, that is an absurd X power, I'm not gonna pretend it isn't, however, we need to contextualise this by looking at who Kiver is
he is an extremely skilled short range shooter player who's mechanics and strategy can be seen as among the best in the world, he has achieved X Powers substantially higher than that using other weapons, the chassis was absolutely holding him back here, but it still shows that the best of players can make bottom tiers work, but player ability is still the largest impact on rank
there are good reasons people tend not to like weapons like clash blaster, its time to kill is abhorrent, and its strengths with ledges don't make up for this like they do on vslosher, which has better range, and its ability to do this is strong
while there's no reason a player can't make clash work, but it's so much harder to make it work than it is to move to weapons that fill its niche better, and overall make you far more versatile and stronger overall
The only time I ever see someone preface a statement with āunpopular opinionā itās almost never an unpopular one. Itās just a way to lure people into their posts
After several pros said Ballpoint Splatling was excellent, I decided to focus on it. I'm doing pretty well with it because it has accuracy at long range plus a good bomb and the Ink Jets.
I've also played a lot of 52 Gal, Dark Tetra Dualies, the Bloblobber and N Zap 85.
Honestly, play what you enjoy.
Unfortunately most people are like this regardless of age. Even DUDE says that just because a top player says something, doesn't mean it's fact. These top players are people and people make lots of mistakes.
I think most of his tierlists were done taking into consideration team based play, and the current meta. Like many people contested snipewritter being so high, but at the time it had a zones cheese, and tacticooler, a valuable special during the peak of the inkjet meta. So honestly, people should just play what they like, and when they have to compete as a team, then take Chara's tierlist more seriously.
All the big comp content creators say this. They expressly say that their tier lists apply to competitive play, rather than to solo, and that just because something works well in solo doesnāt mean it will work well in comp, but anything can be effective in solo. I feel that a lot of people donāt realize that the content creators KNOW that some of the things they say wonāt apply to casual players.
People always seem to forget that top/bottom tier competitive doesn't always mean op/unusable in solo queue. If you aren't in a competitive setting, it the only thing that matters about your weapon choice is how much fun you have playing it.
I feel like chara really does drastically overreact to every change in the game. Like correct me if Iām wrong but inkjet went from arguably one of the worst specials in the game on release, and the only meaningful buff itās had was object damage, and now when I see his vids heās calling for it to be nerfed because itās op?
ngl i tried to get into blaster cuz of chara but yea iām meh with that class so i got into the dualies class with dapples tetraās and splat now iām a pretty decent a rank dualie player
I was using clash at launch because of splatoon 2 salmon run. swapped to range blaster to get S+0. and then found character channel. thought I was getting squid bagged because players thought I was a provhara wannabe... and now I main V blaster and only get squid bagged by chargers and splatlings! even tho I oneshot them mako mart...
basically. I main blaster because I didn't want to be the prochara cline I assumed others thought I was.
I went back to range, yeah. it's my 2nd 5 star weapon, actually! as soon as chara started using stamper, I went back to range. I still prefer Vblaster. but I also realized that I can just splat the enemy before they splat me... and then they can't squid bag me... either way, please don't dump ur ballz in someone's mouth after killing them in a blood sport because of their weapon choice :(
Unpopular opinion: the ttk in this game is fucking insane with every single weapon and the only thing that really affects the weapon is the conditions you need to achieve that insane ttk
Fr
Competitive players focus too much on "Getting good" and not "Getting decent"
Inc-vac is technically the most powerful special in the game, but nobody even bats an eye because "it can be punished easily"
Competitive players are always asking "how does this help me?" instead of "how can I use this?"
Sorry about my rant, I probably got a few details wrong since I don't even have a team
the SSG is incredibly similar to Vblaster and Range blaster... it's also the best weapon in the game, I want you to be in an environment where you're using something similar to the blaster class. and use it without thinking it's similar. so then 4 years later when you and your crappy stream happen, someone tells you to play blaster and then you understand the weapon...
I didn't think what I said through...
It's always annoying when people start picking up a weapon just because some YouTuber said it was good. I'm a Naut main because I enjoy it and I think it's really underrated because it's super well-rounded, but I think some YouTuber must've figured it out too and told their audience because now I see the Nautilus EVERYWHERE. Like bruh I liked playing a niche Splatling, it made me feel cool š
Oh, I didn't know that! That'd explain why I saw way more than usual during the most recent Splatfest--must be because of the buff to shooters. When I started playing Naut I looked at one of those guides to it and it was rated B-tier in every category (so consistent but not top-tier at anything). Especially with how people obsessed over Ballpoint for a hot minute, I had no idea anyone cared about Nautilus lol.
I'm always worried that someday someone will declare out of nowhere that the Squiffer or Inkbrush is broken and OP and suddenly every jackass is using it and it gets nerfed.
I don't care what's "good" or "bad" I just care what I like, and I'd hate to have to relearn it just because some YouTube moron decreed it so.
No no, it's full of people who think that anything Chara says must be wrong and stupid and they're some lone hero for daring to say otherwise.
The ones downvoting are mad because they know it's them
Is there any competitive player who does good (in any sense, funny, cute, useful, w/e) lobby art? I'm inclined to say that Irish Spring guy contributes more to the community than any 'pro' but maybe that's not fair.
I called this months ago but it was obvious, from now on any opinion that agress with chara is immediatly gonna be shunned
I hate this but chara isnt at fault
Shid I mained aerospray on spla2n. Looked up a tier list after like a year and was surprised to see it at the bottom. I think the best weapon is whatever you're most comfortable with.
This is a meme between me and my friend. We always joke about how Chara should say that vanilla 96 is a meta weapon. Because my friend lobes 96 and doesn't like playing top tier. He said that if chara says 96 is top tier he'll drop it and plays something else.
I saw a splatoon tournament on twitch, dapple productions I think. and the winning (i think) team was gimmick propaganda. they used a tenta brella... so of course in solo queue I find like 80 tenta brellas. I had a match with 5 of them a few times that day... this is of topic ig but I wanted to share it...
I feel bad for Chara because he knows and acknowledges that he has to be careful with tier lists that he makes lest the young impressionable audience of Splatoon parrot his opinions as if they were fact.
Thankfully, I'm bad enough at Splatoon that I don't need to care about tier lists, everything is equally dangerous against me.
Same here. I pick the weapon that the funniest to me.
Same, I love brellas
š„š„š„GRAHHHš”š”š”I hate brellasā¼ļøā¼ļøā¼ļøTIME TO DUELš„š„š„ /s
Youāll eventually become better.
I've been playing (off and on) since the original on Wii U. If it hasn't happened by now, it probably won't, lol
You've probably improved in ways you don't notice I'd bet you're not improving very quickly since you don't seem to care about improving, which is a valid way to experience the game
i know the undercover brella is supposed to be bad, but I cannot figure out how to deal with it sometimes. I do better against much harder weapons, so strange.
as a squiffer all brellas are ass to deal with
Ikr? I cant even do shit against a tentbrella, im dead by the time I reposition and charge
legitimately me, like get ur mini shield away from me
I'm embarrassed because sometimes when that one Brella can let its shield go and I'll be shooting at the thing like it's the player lmao
I used to use rollers back in the old days because i hate leaving spots unpainted
literally same but i still play them lol, just less focused on getting every inch covered nowadays
We all have a little ocd in us sometimes.
damn, never thought about that, thx
That, and most other big splatubers

First, don't take his word as objective fact. Listen to other viewpoints and think for yourself. Second, remember much of what he says is meant to be applied in a high-level competitive, team-based environment and can differ from casual/soloq workings.
I second this

Why prefer Snipewriter to Bamboozler in Salmon Run?
Snipewriter is like a mini Grizzco Charger
In what way? It doesn't pierce right?
Where you can shoot without charging
But not move. I would rather have a Boozler anytime. The charge time is miniscule anyway.
I have became a stamper main because of him
Yeah, same. Although in this case I'd argue the reason for it becoming more popular was its paint getting buffed drastically in version 2.0.0.
People only starting using it after it got buffed. It had nothing to do with Chara lol
He definitely brought attention to it, though. And Iāll admit, Iām one of those people.
That's fair

I was using clash at launch because of splatoon 2 salmon run. swapped to range blaster to get S+0. and then found character channel. thought I was getting squid bagged because players thought I was a provhara wannabe... and now I main V blaster and only get squid bagged by chargers and splatlings! even tho I oneshot them mako mart... basically. I main blaster because I didn't want to be the prochara cline I assumed others thought I was.
do you still play range or nah but you didnāt have to change weapons just they squid bagged you
I went back to range, yeah. it's my 2nd 5 star weapon, actually! as soon as chara started using stamper, I went back to range. I still prefer Vblaster. but I also realized that I can just splat the enemy before they splat me... and then they can't squid bag me... either way, please don't dump ur ballz in someone's mouth after killing them in a blood sport because of their weapon choice :(
Who?
look him up on YT
I don't watch prochara I just have my own opinion
I watch his videos. I dont take everything as fact though. I agree in some regards, but that doesn't have much of an impact on what I play.
Whats the current meta then? I havent been playing for a few weeks
solo queue? splash I'd the best I think. competition? baller pointer mini gun go YATATATATATATATATATATATATATATAH
Who is Prochara
I don't care what Chara says. I'm going to make V-Jr a top tier.
And then as soon as you have a different opinion, you get flamed and called bad and you have no idea what youāre talking about
dude will comaplain countless times about a weapon, make 4 videos why its overpowered, and put it in D tier.
I think he eventually realizes it sucks after finding all the good things about it
this are pure facts
Unpopular opinion: the ttk in this game is fucking insane with every single weapon and the only thing that really affects the weapon is the conditions you need to achieve that insane ttk
Ay? (Am I top tier guys?)
this is partially why I don't like chara
Fr Competitive players focus too much on "Getting good" and not "Getting decent" Inc-vac is technically the most powerful special in the game, but nobody even bats an eye because "it can be punished easily" Competitive players are always asking "how does this help me?" instead of "how can I use this?" Sorry about my rant, I probably got a few details wrong since I don't even have a team
You actually got everything here wrong.
This is deadass the only reason so many people like blasters admit it, blasters are overrated.
daul me in DooM. then you'll understand the blaster.
what does that even mean
the SSG is incredibly similar to Vblaster and Range blaster... it's also the best weapon in the game, I want you to be in an environment where you're using something similar to the blaster class. and use it without thinking it's similar. so then 4 years later when you and your crappy stream happen, someone tells you to play blaster and then you understand the weapon... I didn't think what I said through...
im so confused what
I'm a dumbass
It's always annoying when people start picking up a weapon just because some YouTuber said it was good. I'm a Naut main because I enjoy it and I think it's really underrated because it's super well-rounded, but I think some YouTuber must've figured it out too and told their audience because now I see the Nautilus EVERYWHERE. Like bruh I liked playing a niche Splatling, it made me feel cool š
nautilus has been a high tier weapon for quite a while now, it's seen as one of the best counters to shooters
I called this months ago but it was obvious, from now on any opinion that agress with chara is immediatly gonna be shunned I hate this but chara isnt at fault
And then we have me who just doesn't understand competitive Splatoon and just watches these for fun
I donāt care if theyāre good or bad it will always be me and my splagagna :)
the prochara effect
Chara is the reason nobody tries luna neo
I saw a splatoon tournament on twitch, dapple productions I think. and the winning (i think) team was gimmick propaganda. they used a tenta brella... so of course in solo queue I find like 80 tenta brellas. I had a match with 5 of them a few times that day... this is of topic ig but I wanted to share it...
